Health / How To Assist A Gunshot Wound Victim. by theambcompany: 1:52pm On Jul 16, 2021
If you have been shot or you’re with someone who has been shot, these are things you must know;

First, It’s important to make sure the place is safe, before going to help because you can’t help anyone if you get hurt yourself.

If you are faced with a gunshot wound incident, getting prompt medical attention prevents the wound from leading to death.

Contact the law enforcement agency immediately, and [=urlwww.theambulancecompany.com]The Ambulance Company for emergency medical care before approaching the victim.

While you move over to help the victim; use a dressing (gauze, towels, shirts, etc.), to place strong pressure on the wound, if blood is coming out of a hole, put a lot of pressure on it. For particularly bad bleeding, don’t be afraid to use your knee and really lean on the wound hard. Don’t try to clean the wound itself.
Let conscious patients sit or lie in the position most comfortable for them.

Stay with them and continue to reassure them and keep them warm.
If they stop breathing start CPR immediately

DON’TS

-Never give the patient anything to eat or drink, including water.

-Do not move the casualty unless you need to do so to keep him safe or so that you have space to treat him. Moving could aggravate a spinal injury.

-In general, you shouldn’t elevate the legs of a gunshot victim. Gunshot wounds to the abdomen and chest will bleed more quickly once the legs are elevated, making it harder for the patient to breathe.

In Summary;

If you are dealing with a gunshot wound, the key priorities are;
*staying safe,
*calling for help,
*stopping the bleeding,
*keeping the wound clean.

You will need to make some quick decisions, but the more prepared you are, the better the outcome will be.

Health / The Palm Oil Antidote Danger !!! by theambcompany: 5:28pm On Jun 21, 2021
Have you ever swallowed harmful substances such as bleach, kerosene or you have been around someone that consumed that mistakenly and didn't know how to help out.

Kindly read this!!

This is a common problem among young children, and it arises from these substances being kept in an un-labelled container (e.g. Soft drink bottles, bottle water plastic) and within reach of children.

It is believed mostly among Nigerians that administering Palm oil during such cases is AN ANTIDOTE to all and any form of accidental poisonings , it is believed to neutralize the poison or at least provokes vomiting so the victim can get the substance out of their system.

This is extremely dangerous as an antidote in children as the victim might aspirate the oil which would result to respiratory distress, and the victim not breathing well (which is the danger inherent in giving palm oil).

DO NOT GIVE THE VICTIM PALM OIL TO DRINK.

The first step to take is to contact The Ambulance Company for swift emergency medical care, while doing that, provide them with basic information such as the substance taken, quantity and time of ingestion, age, and general health status of affected individual

Follow the following steps below after calling for medical assistance,

-Carefully remove the individual from the source of the poisoning, and move them to a region with fresh air immediately.

-Remove contaminated clothing and thoroughly wash the skin with soap and water.

-Ensure breathing and the presence of pulse

-Place the individual in a comfortable seated position in a ventilated space; avoid making them lie down

-If the individual is unconscious, make them lie on their side, to prevent aspiration of vomit into their lungs

-If exposure of the eye has occurred, then wash thoroughly with water

DO NOT induce vomiting in the victim.

There is a high risk of vomit getting into the respiratory tract that may result in severe complications and lung damage

Wait for the arrival of the medical personnel for more professional care.

How to prevent further re-occurrence of such incident;

-Keeping any poisonous/hazardous chemicals and other materials out of children’s reach

-Keep all poisons correctly labeled and in suitable storage locations

-Using appropriate protective wear when working with such chemicals (such as hand gloves)

Being aware of basic first aid steps in case of an emergency, such as this is really important.

Health / What You Need To Know About Tetanus by theambcompany: 6:53pm On Apr 29, 2021
A few days ago, our neighborhood carpenter, Baba Tobi was found lying still on his mat by Mummy Semiu. She became inquisitive as to what might be wrong, as he is usually the playful type. So, she moved closer to ask him what was wrong, when she realized that he could not open his mouth, it was very stiff, and he was unable to swallow. I repeat, he could not swallow! Everyone in the compound was assuming that someone had done ‘Juju’ for him. Mama Ngozi was praying for him, caressing the beads on her rosary while reciting the “Mary Prayer”.

The youth corpers in our compound were standing in the shade beside the gateman house contemplating the cause of Baba Tobi’s condition. One of the corpers, Raina who was a nurse told the others that she was suspecting it could be Tetanus.

“Tetanus ke?” Aruba the bus driver exclaimed, indicating that he was eavesdropping on their conversation. “Ordinary tetanus, something that you’ll just injure and your leg will swell up small. Just drink agbo and rub aboniki, abi?” he hissed and stood up from the floor where he had been sitting and started walking away. “Madam nurse, you no sabi your work”
Raina shook her head, stood up and walked to the ancient broken bench where everyone had their monthly meetings. She said,

“Let me tell you - Tetanus is a serious illness caused by the spores of the bacterium Clostridium tetanus. This bacterium is present in the soil, rusted nail, saliva etc. This bacterium can enter the body through a deep cut in the skin either by a nail, insect bite, splinters or burns affecting the nervous system. You see, this illness called tetanus is present mostly in people that are not vaccinated or haven’t completed their vaccinations.”
Aruba interjects “how does this one concern Baba Tobi?”
“You know Baba Tobi is a carpenter. He must have injured himself on a rusted nail in the shop. When you are infected with the bacterium, it takes like 5-21 days for symptoms to appear. You will see symptoms like jaw cramping or inability to open the mouth, muscle spasm often in the back, abdomen and extremities; that is the legs and arms.”

“All these?! just because of Tetanus!” Mama Ngozi exclaimed.

“That’s not all. There are other symptoms like stiffening of the neck muscles, difficulty swallowing, seizures, headache, fever and sweating, changes in blood pressure or fast heart rate. And these symptoms are seen in people who aren't vaccinated or haven't completed their vaccinations”.
“Infact, because of these symptoms there are some complications that can arise”
“Complications again? The jaw cramping is it not a complication” Rufus, the gateman asked.
“No oh. That one is a symptom, the complications we see are broken bones, pulmonary embolism which is where the artery in your lung will be blocked by a blood clot and finally, death due to lack of oxygen from respiratory failure”

“How do we treat this?” Aruba asked.

“Because this condition is an emergency, we need to call The Ambulance Company to come assist with emergency first aid.

“Nurse, abeg where i go take the vaccine?” Aruba asked, while everyone echoed, the same question indicating their interest.

Don’t worry! The Ambulance Company has got everything covered!
Health / What You Need To Know Before Assisting Someone Experiencing A Seizure Episode! by theambcompany: 6:22pm On Apr 15, 2021
Something strange happened in our school today, Sade said to her mother, as she recounts what happened during the morning assembly.

It was a bright Tuesday morning, the drums rolling and the melodious voices of the student of Vedic secondary school could be heard from quite a distance. They had queued up for their morning assembly and were singing the school anthem when a noise erupted suddenly in the midst of the SS1 student line. Apparently, Segun had collapsed, foaming, and shaking uncontrollably on the ground.

In a state of confusion, Tokunbo, the head boy dashed off to the principal’s office to relay the incident. The principal immediately called for the P.H.E teacher and the School nurse to check the situation of things.

Immediately they both arrived at the scene, they found Segun still shaking. Mrs Onwuso, the P.H.E tutor instantly started making sure the environment was safe by clearing sharp objects around the scene, to prevent injury, and dismissing the students gathered around, to their various classes to give room for fresh air. Then gently she turned Segun onto his side to enable him breath properly. Nurse Bamidele then placed a pillow underneath his head and loosened the tie around his neck to enable him to breathe freely. Gradually, he stopped shaking and regained consciousness. He was then gently moved to the sick bay to rest.

After Segun had gotten some rest, Nurse Bamidele called the students into the Hall to explain what had happened to him. She mentioned that Segun had just experienced a seizure episode and went on to explain that a seizure is a sudden, uncontrolled electrical disturbance in the brain which causes changes in one’s behavior, movements, or feelings, and in levels of consciousness. She also mentioned that it is not communicable, to prevent any form of stigmatization from the other students.

Then, she stated things to never do while trying to help a person experiencing a Seizure; 1) putting anything into the person’s mouth, as this could injure their teeth or jaw, 2) holding the person down, or restricting their movement. Finally, she told us that the sick person cannot swallow their tongue as opposed to the popular myths.
The principal called Segun’s parent to inform them of what had just happened, and to also notify them that they had contacted The Ambulance Company to assist with monitoring their son’s health while they transferred him to the hospital for further medical check-up.

Health / How Bola Balogun Escaped Death By A Close Shave by theambcompany: 6:43pm On Mar 31, 2021
It was one of those really cold, dry and dusty morning during the harmattan season , when i and my roommates; Titi, Bola, and Jessica were on our way to the library to study for our FES301 course exam.

We only resulted into trekking, because we had waiting in the bus stop for close to 35 minutes, and there was no campus shuttle forthcoming. We started walking down to the library while gisting and laughing among ourselves

Bola couldn't catch up with us as she was resting mid way after every 5 minutes walk. I had to go meet her at one of the gossip chairs she sat on resting. Then i realized that she was finding it hard to breathe properly, and was wheezing while exhaling. At that very point, all i could do was scream out loud enough for help from other students passing by.

I had started trembling at that point, i quickly searched through her bag for her inhaler as she was asthmatic, and fortunately i found one.
So Jessica and i pulled her to sit up properly, then Jessica assisted her in using her inhaler properly, after taking in few puffs, she then breathe in slowly , held her breathe for few seconds, then breathe out slowly, she was relived only for a little while , as she was still having difficulty in breathing.

While this was being done, Titi had placed a call across to the THE AMBULANCE COMPANY for an ambulance to take her to the closest hospital, as the situation was not looking any better. Within 2 mins after the call, the medic on his way to the scene called Titi to confirm the current situation of things and also assured us that they would be there in 5 mins, and surprisingly , the ambulance arrived at our location at the exact estimated time.

The medic arrived at the scene, assessed the situation at hand, and administered life saving intervention while transporting her to a health facility for further treatment, so that was how the life of my friend was saved by Ambco.

Call Ambco for any kind of medical emergency, and be rest assured that you would receive quality healthcare.

Health / What You Need To Know About Tuberculosis by theambcompany: 6:42pm On Mar 24, 2021
Tuberculosis (TB) is a potentially serious infectious disease that mainly affects your lungs. The bacteria that causes tuberculosis "Mycobacterium tuberculosis" is spread from one person to another through tiny droplets released into the air via coughs and sneezes. It mainly affects the lungs, but it can affect any part of the body, including the tummy (abdomen), glands, bones and nervous system.

In most healthy people, the immune system kills the bacteria and there are no symptoms, sometimes the immune system cannot completely kill the bacteria, but it prevents it from spreading in the body. When the immune system fails to contain the spread of the infection, it spreads into the
lungs or other parts of the body and symptoms will develop within a few weeks or months.

Although tuberculosis is contagious, it's not easy to catch. You're much more likely to get tuberculosis from
someone you live with or work with than from a stranger.

Symptoms of TB;

-A persistent cough that lasts more than 3 weeks, which may be bloody
-Chest pain
-Weight loss
-Night sweats
-Fever
-Loss of appetite
-Fatigue

What to do when you have TB;

-See a doctor
-Stay home.
-Do not sleep in a room with other people during the first few weeks of treatment for active tuberculosis.
-Ventilate the room as Tuberculosis germs spread easily in closed spaces where air doesn't move. Open the windows and use a fan to blow air.
-Wear a face mask that Covers your mouth especially when you are around people, it lessens the risk of transmission.
-Make sure you finish your entire course of medication, When you stop treatment early or skip doses,it becomes deadly, and difficult to treat.

Vaccination for TB;

In countries where tuberculosis is more common or underdeveloped countries like Nigeria , infants are vaccinated with Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccine immediately after birth so as to prevent severe tuberculosis in children, adults under the age of 35, who are considered to be at risk of catching TB are also vaccinated.

The BCG vaccine is not routinely given to anyone over the age of 35 as there's no evidence that it works for adults.

#World TB Day, March 24th is a worldwide event that aims to raise awareness of Tuberculosis and the efforts made to prevent and treat this disease as it has been discovered that reaching out to people early with care can prevent death & suffering.

Early diagnosis and treatment will prevent the spread.

Get tested if you experience these symptoms or suspect that you have been exposed to TB.

Protect yourself and others.

Health / Some Important Facts About Covid-19 by theambcompany: 5:33pm On Mar 17, 2021
What is COVID-19?

The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is caused by a strain of coronaviruses. This strain was first discovered in humans in 2019, in Wuhan, China.

How does COVID-19 spread?

Current evidence suggests that the main way the virus spreads is by respiratory droplets. These droplets can be shared amongst people who are in close contact with each other. The virus can spread from an infected person’s mouth or nose in small liquid particles when they cough, sneeze, speak, sing or breathe heavily.

Aerosol transmission can occur in specific settings, particularly indoors, crowded areas and inadequately ventilated spaces. When an infected person(s) spend long periods of time with others, in places such as restaurants, fitness classes, nightclubs, offices and/or places of worship, the chances of contracting the virus are higher.

The virus may also spread after infected people cough on, or touch surfaces, or objects, such as tables, doorknobs, and handrails. Other people may become infected by touching these contaminated surfaces, then touching their eyes, noses, or mouths without having cleaned their hands first.

[img][/img]

How long does it take for people to get sick after they are exposed to COVID-19 virus?

Once a person has been exposed to the virus, they usually develop symptoms within 1 - 14 days (average of 5-7days). Common symptoms include fever, cough, tiredness, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, headache, general body pain/weakness and diarrhoea.
Some people are infected and never develop symptoms (They are called ‘asymptomatic’), but these people can still spread the virus to others around them in close contact.

Is COVID-19 a death sentence?

No, COVID-19 is not a death sentence once the proper measures are taken to manage the condition.
Preventing yourself from contracting it to begin with, is the paramount management of this disease.
However, once it's contracted, follow the procedures as outlined by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and World Health Organisation.

Do you know someone that might have COVID-19?
Has anyone around you been confirmed to be COVID-19 positive?
Do you want to transport your loved ones to a COVID-19 isolation centre?
Do you need holistic COVID-19home care?

Worry no more! AmbCo has got you covered.

Health / The Ambulance Company's Covid Home Care Services by theambcompany: 5:11pm On Mar 16, 2021
Mr. Ajekoko, one of Lagos socialites, 4 days after going to a wedding party at Oworo, noticed that he had a sore throat, fever, and lack of appetite.

He visited one of the government accredited Covid testing centers, and was confirmed positive, however, because of his status in the society, he didn't want people to know about his condition and at the same time, wanted to be treated for the virus.

In a panic, he reached out to his bosom friend, Uche, who advised him to contact The Ambulance Company (AmbCO) for their Covid home care, as they were tested and trusted. @theambcompany

Immediately, he contacted The ambulance company, AmbCO and they swung into action by advising him to self-isolate and as well invited doctors to manage him properly at home & also via telemedicine. In addition, medications were supplied, and equipment for self-monitoring. There was also a special provision for oxygen if needed.

A few weeks later, another Covid test was conducted for Mr. Ajekoko, and he was confirmed negative. The joy in his heart could not be contained when he saw his result. He was astonished by how Ambco was able to conduct such holistic healthcare services at a very reasonable cost.

Mr. Ajekoko had learned the importance of following the COVID 19 safety precautions as stated by NCDC and WHO. He was always seen with his face mask on and was never seen in the midst of a crowd anymore as he didn't want to risk contracting the virus again.

Health / Waist trainer made her faint!!! by theambcompany: 6:39pm On Mar 11, 2021
On a very sunny Wednesday afternoon, I was standing at Masha bus stop, hoping to get a danfo bus to transport me to CMS, for a job interview. All of a sudden, I heard a loud thud on the floor and people screaming.

Looking at my side, the young lady standing a meter away from me had just passed out…..Trust Nigerians, they had started screaming, about how “someone must have used the young fine girl, for (money) ritual.” Some had even started casting and binding.
The shouting also included several people giving different advice on what to do, and what not to. Some people had gone to fetch water to pour on the young lady, some had just pulled out their phones to record the poor lady, while some had shifted back to observe from a distance.

I was mostly, in shock for a few minutes, when I instantly remembered a post I saw on The Ambulance Company’s Instagram page - @Theambcompany about fainting.
I remember vividly that the first thing to do was to assess for the individual’s breathing and then, put in a recovery position (left-hand side lying down)

I paved my way through the crowd that had gathered around the girl on the floor. With the help of one nice person amongst the crowd, we tilted her gently to lay on her left side, after confirming that she was breathing, although faintly. Then, we tried to disperse the crowd away, to allow for good ventilation.

Next, I loosened the tight buttons on her shirt and even had to remove the waist trainer she had on.
Not too long after, she moved a bit and opened her eyes slowly. Immediately, we gave her a few sips of water to drink.

Apparently, she had been standing under the sun for too long, had nothing to eat or drink all day, and was already dehydrated. She ignored the feelings of dizziness and lightheadedness she’d experienced shortly before fainting. A good Samaritan also offered her a sugary drink that helped her regain some strength.

Danfo bus going to CMS finally came, and I hopped in. The scene of what just happened kept playing in my head. What if the lady could not get help? What if she did not wake up?
One thing I know for sure was that The Ambulance Company would have been quick to the rescue. Also, that having first aid training or tips actually saves lives.
