Microsoft is testing its first major Xbox dashboard overhaul with the company’s new Fluent Design. Xbox One Insiders on the alpha ring will get access to a new Xbox One dashboard at 6PM PT / 9PM ET today, and it looks like a solid improvement from the existing one. Once again, Microsoft is focusing on speed of navigation and removing the splash screens that occur when you switch from sections like home, social, and my games / apps The tabs in the guide are now ordered horizontally, and you can switch between them using the Xbox controller bumpers or left thumbstick and d-pad. Sign-in, achievements, parties / LFG, friends, Home, messages, broadcasts, and a new action center (with settings) now form part of the updated guide. It works very similar to how it has in the past, but it’s much quicker to switch sections with the controller now. When you navigate to sections of the guide, there’s even a new stacked user interface to show you what you’ve left behind. New Xbox One Guide Perhaps the biggest update is a new Home interface on the Xbox dashboard. Microsoft is making this fully customizable with its Fluent Design elements. You can pin things like favorite friends to the home section, alongside games and apps. Pinned games will even show activity feeds, so you can see when a friend is playing a particular title. Microsoft is also tweaking the community section of the Xbox One dashboard. A new activity feed layout includes a fullscreen view, with the ability to read comments fullscreen. Clubs, game hubs, and profiles have also been refreshed with this new UI, making them a little easier to navigate and follow. While the Xbox One dashboard is the main focus of today’s improvements, Microsoft is also tweaking the game bar on its Windows 10 Xbox app. You’ll be able to enable or disable Game Mode on a per-game basis soon, along with new options for what audio you’re broadcasting through Mixer from the game bar. Today’s updates are just part of a number of changes for the Xbox in 2017. Microsoft says it plans to unveil more features in the coming months for Xbox One, Windows 10, Mixer, and mobile devices.

Chances are that you have looked at the cover and you are wondering why your favourite new player from the “FIFA 17 The Journey” looks so real and bears the name Tomiwa Edun. Chances are that you have checked the Internet and have realised that Alex Hunter is Tomiwa Edun, a Nigerian actor who has featured in series like Merlin and most recently the movie everyone is talking about, “Banana Island Ghost.” Guardian Life had a chat with Edun on his career trajectory from The Globe Theatre to Nollywood. Read excerpts The actor said he’d wanted to star in a Nollywood movie for a long time stating: I have been trying to do that for years. We have taken things to various stages and for whatever reason, they haven’t quite worked out. On Banana Island Ghost and why he decided to take the role: It was a lot of fun! The sort of abundant joyfulness of it just jumped off the page. On his experience shooting in Nigeria, he added: I think being on set is pretty much standard everywhere. You are always short of time, inevitably. No matter how well you can, you are always chasing the clock. We have fun issues like losing light, all those challenges you have to deal with here that perhaps you don’t have to deal with elsewhere. Edun also discussed his role as Alex Hunter, the character everyone plays as when they begin a career on FIFA 2017. He said: Basically it has given me the opportunity to live out a boyhood fantasy. I mean who amongst us would not be a professional footballer of the highest level if we could do it and I have sort of gotten to live that dream which is amazing. We shot in this massive warehouse in Vancouver in winter and then seven, eight months later the material that started off as us dressed in these weird motion capture suits, interacting with very few real sets, props and scenery turns out into this beautifully polished pseudo-movie. I will say that the greatest validation of our work was watching my friends or brothers play this thing that I have been working on for all this time and seeing them pulled in that they are now reacting emotively and spontaneously. This FIFA thing has opened up doors that ten years ago we wouldn’t have known would be there.

Xbox One exclusives exist in an odd space at the moment, what with Microsoft continuing to push its generous Play Anywhere program. This marvelous system lets you play select games on your console and/or Windows 10 PC (complete with cross-saving) with a single purchase. So while some of the following games can't be classified as 'true' system exclusives, they all proudly represent some of the very best titles that the modern Xbox brand has to offer. Before we jump into the ranked list, let's establish some ground rules: Game Preview titles are excluded for now, as they're not yet finished, and great remasters like Rare Replay, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and Gears of War: Ultimate Edition are out, as the original games have already thrived on older consoles. With that, let's take a look at the exclusives that'll get the most out of your Xbox One, Xbox One S, or the upcoming Xbox One X (try saying all that five times fast). 10. Quantum Break It might've overextended a bit with its experimental TV tie-in elements, but Quantum Break from Remedy Entertainment (makers of Max Payne and Alan Wake) has moments where its mix of third-person shooting and temporal powers really soars. As Jack Joyce (played by Shawn Ashmore, the lead in a relatively star-studded cast), you've stumbled into time-manipulating godhood and must use your newfound superpowers to wipe out waves of armed goons and prevent the cataclysmic End of Time. It's worth playing Quantum Break just for those moments when you've trapped enemies in a prism-like stasis bubble, peppered them with soon-to-be-unfrozen bullets, then warp-dashed over to another baddie for a melee takedown, all in the span of a few seconds. 9. Halo Wars 2 Real-time strategy games rarely flourish on consoles, but Halo Wars 2 manages to comfortably map every tactical function you need to the gamepad, putting the focus on fast-paced, top-down action while saving you the headache of having to constantly fiddle with the controls. This sequel adds the invaluable ability to create control groups for your units (all faithfully recreating Halo's most iconic vehicles and enemies), which makes micro-managing your army mid-combat a breeze. Halo Wars 2's campaign tells a gripping war story with plenty of impressive cutscenes, and the orchestral score is up there with the series' best. If you're jumping into the online multiplayer, be sure to check out the innovative Blitz mode, which couples classic RTS gameplay with a deck-building mechanic to become Halo Wars 2's best innovation. 8. Kalimba This criminally underappreciated 2D platformer is the epitome of couch co-op, where you'll spend just as much time praising your partner as cursing them out (all in good fun, of course). Kalimba stars pairs of adorable little totem-people running and jumping through colorful landscapes comprised of simplistic geometric shapes, with color-coded obstacles that require your totems to stack up and swap places constantly. You can play Kalimba solo or in two-player co-op (for a combined total of four totems), with every level introducing an ingenious brain-bending gimmick to keep you on your toes. Whether you're satisfied with simply beating each stage or striving to collect every devilishly placed orb without dying to snag a Golden Totem, Kalimba is one of the most distinctive and delightful platformers around. 7. Sunset Overdrive Insomniac Games made a name for itself with the beloved Ratchet & Clank series, famous for their varied assortments of outlandish weaponry - so the studio decided to take that expertise in crafting absurd artillery, build an open-world, Jet Set Radio-style metropolis bursting with color around it, and infuse the chaotic proceedings with a healthy dose of punk rock attitude. Sunset Overdrive lets you pull off some spectacularly absurd feats of mass destruction, where you can launch bowling bowls, fireworks, explosive teddy bears, and more, mowing down hordes of mutants, robots, and bizarre gang members while you grind along telephone poles with your physics-defying sneakers. Its attempts at edgy humor constantly fall flat, but the sheer fun and freedom of grinding, flipping, and air-dashing around Sunset Overdrive's urban playground make it well worth a go. 6. Dead Rising 3 Dead Rising 3 represents a fine middle ground in Capcom's cult-hit series, which revolves around zombie genocide wrought by a variety of over-the-top weapons, all crafted DIY-style from combinations of everyday objects. It's still got the ridiculous Psychopath bosses and (an admittedly lax) time limit mechanic reminiscent of the first two games, realized in all the gory glory of Xbox One-powered visuals akin to Dead Rising 4 (without all the misguided changes that came with that Frank West reboot). Our hero Nick Ramos valiantly pulverizes, electrocutes, and cooks thousands of undead to save any friendly survivors he meets, and the game's goofy tone makes killing your way through the overrun, open-world streets of Los Perdidos all the more enjoyable. If you prefer your Xbox-exclusive zombie apocalypses with more survival elements, you may also want to check out State of Decay: Year-One Survival Edition. 5. Killer Instinct Killer Instinct's sheer sense of excitement is infectious. Everything about this one-on-one fighter's presentation - flashy graphics with particle effects galore, hard-hitting sound design, buttery smooth framerates, and the most hyped-up announcer in all of fighting games - is engineered to get you as pumped as possible for every intense match. The launch roster of a mere six characters has ballooned to an impressive cast of 26 unique combatants, with classic KI superstars like Fulgore and Glacius butting heads with appealing newcomers like ghost lady Hisako and stellar cameos including Battletoads' Rash (pictured above in all his amphibian glory) and Halo's Arbiter. Whether you're pulling off a ludicrously long combo, waiting for the opportune moment to reverse the opponent's momentum, or just taking it all in as a spectator, the over-the-top bouts in Killer Instinct will have everyone in the room shouting "C-C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!" with enraptured glee. 4. Halo 5: Guardians It's nowhere near the best Halo game, but as sci-fi FPS adventures go, Halo 5: Guardians makes for a solid system exclusive. Master Chief shares the spotlight with newcomer Spartan James Locke, leader of the four-strong Fireteam Osiris. Halo 5's campaign is best enjoyed in online co-op (supporting up to four players, though sadly there's no splitscreen option), and though the plot itself lacks sufficient oomph, the new focus on verticality in the level designs keeps the tense, tactical firefights feeling fresh. Meanwhile, the multiplayer is as exciting as ever, especially in the large-scale, multi-objective skirmishes of the 24-player Warzone mode. As for all the other tried-and-true modes, you really can't go wrong with Halo multiplayer in any capacity. 3. Gears of War 4 All the Locusts may have been wiped out, but humanity's war for survival is far from over. Gears of War 4 follows a new generation of lovable super-soldiers clad in bulky armor - Kait, Del and Marcus Fenix's son JD - as they huddle behind cover and tear through legions of baddies with an assortment of bullets, explosives, and Lancer chainsaws. Whether you're playing solo or in two-person co-op (split-screen or online), Gears of War 4's campaign delivers one thrilling third-person shootout after the next, full of fast-paced, stop-and-pop combat against smartly designed opponents using a plethora of satisfying artillery. Diving into the PvP fray of online multiplayer is a great way to satiate any leftover bloodlust, and the revamped Horde mode (which introduces buildable structures generated by the Fabricator station) brings an appreciated tower defense vibe to the endlessly replayable PvE holdouts. 2. Ori and the Blind Forest The sheer artistry of Ori and the Blind Forest must be seen to be believed. This beautiful 2D platformer puts you in control of the adorable fluffball Ori, accompanied by a watchful spirit named Sein as you explore a lush, treacherous forest structured in brilliant Metroidvania fashion. It's all brought to life with beautiful hand-drawn art, silky smooth animation, and a stirring soundtrack that'd be right at home in a Hayao Miyazaki movie. As if the base game wasn't enchanting enough, the Definitive Edition expands Ori's adventure with new areas and additional abilities that shape how you nimbly dart around the expansive environments with invigorating fluidity. If you're not one to back down from a challenge - some difficulty spikes really test your skill and perseverance - Ori's adventure will enthrall you from start to finish. 1. Forza Horizon 3 Forza Horizon 3 is that rare breed of racing game with universal appeal, even if you're not typically keen on the genre. Getting behind the wheel of a high-end vehicle - chosen and customized from a selection of hundreds, with everything from Ferraris to 4x4s - then zooming around an open-world, near-photorealistic version of paradisal Australia is an absolute treat. Doesn’t matter if you're merely cruising to take in all the beautiful sights or excitedly flooring it in pursuit of a personal best time. The sheer variety of challenges to take on let you set the pace however you see fit, and the campaign's online integration puts you in full control of how many players you want to share the road with, if any. With accessible handling, drop-dead gorgeous visuals, and an near-endless supply of things to do, Forza Horizon 3 can take anyone for a thoroughly enjoyable ride. And when you're in the mood for a decidedly ridiculous drive across miles of orange plastic, the Hot Wheels DLC is just fantastic.

As the end of the year approaches, the next major update is brewing for Xbox One. These are the features we expect to see this fall. The next major update is just around the corner for Xbox One owners and expected to bring a new wave of features to the console this fall. With the launch of its 4K-capable Xbox One X, this year is shaping up to be rather crucial for Microsoft, and subsequently, the changes to the console's operating system are more significant than ever. Although Microsoft has yet to officially unveil the next update for Xbox One, the similarity with Windows 10 PC update cycles points towards the latter months of this year. While those on PC will be getting the "Fall Creators Update," Kevin Gallo, Director of Windows Developer Platform at Microsoft, has confirmed the next update will bring a similar set of features, but likely bear a different name. While we're yet to receive an official list of changes, we've pieced together various information teased so far, regarding the next Xbox One update. These are some of the additions in the pipeline for Xbox One, that we can expect to see in the months ahead. Fluent Design refresh One of the biggest changes arriving with the Fall Creators Update will be the initial rollout of the Fluent Design System – a new universal design language slowly being distributed across Windows 10. Aiming to add additional depth and texture to the company's existing products, the update delivers a range of new visual traits, while still maintaining a level of minimalism seen in current revisions of the OS. Five main foundations are at the core of the first wave of the Fluent Design System's rollout: Material, Light, Scale, Depth, and Motion. Each of these traits is expected to make an appearance somewhere across the Xbox One OS going forward, making for a more stylish and dynamic approach to user interface (UI) interaction. Microsoft has already teased a concept of what Fluent Design will mean for the Xbox One UI, as a part of its initial reveal video. This has provided an in-progress look at some potential changes in the pipeline, however, some significant deviations from the concept can be expected with the final public release. Although no major instances of Fluent Design have been seen across the Xbox One OS, several implementations already on Windows 10 PCs provide an idea of the changes to expect. More recently the Xbox One's own out-of-box setup experience also received a revamp, showing how Fluent Design may be interpreted with a controller in mind CVP of Xbox Program Management, Mike Ybarra, has confirmed a visual overhaul will be occurring around the Xbox One X launch – although no official word on its contents has not been provided. A Fluent Design refresh is all but certain and could make for the biggest Xbox One dashboard refresh since launch. Checking in on Microsoft's new Fluent Design System for Windows 10 A slick new Fluent Design setup experience is coming to the Xbox One Xbox Store digital gifting A request that dates back to the debut of Xbox Live may finally be fulfilled later this year, with the rollout of digital gifting via the Xbox Store. Responding to a fan on Twitter, Ybarra has confirmed that the ability to send digital products to friends is in the works, with functionality "not far" from a public release. A basic form of digital gifting first hit Xbox 360 back in early 2016, allowing gamers to send digital currency gift cards over Xbox Live. However, over two years after Xbox One launch, its appeal was somewhat limited at the time. With platforms like Steam sporting an established gifting system ingrained into their community, its arrival for Xbox One is long overdue. Bringing the functionality to Xbox One should further add the offerings of the Xbox Store – a marketplace which has already improved massively in recent years. While we're still yet to hear of other highly-requested features such as an Item Carts and Wishlists, these could also be potential additions in the pipeline. Original Xbox backward compatibility As announced at E3 2017, the backward compatibility program will also be expanding in the months ahead, with the inclusion of original Xbox titles. After two years, support for Xbox 360 games has proven to be one of the Xbox One's most popular features and now, a new generation of games is being ushered into the console's library. Little has been discussed since its brief announcement at E3 but ultimately, functionality will remain the same as its Xbox 360 counterpart. While physical disks will be usable to play supported titles, digital versions of these classics will be up for grabs through the original Xbox Store. So far, "Fuzion Frenzy" and "Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge" are the two titles confirmed to be among the launch library. While Xbox head, Phil Spencer, has emphasized that titles at launch will be significantly fewer than Xbox 360, we can still expect several iconic games to be revived in the process. List of original Xbox games that are backward compatible on Xbox One 10 original Xbox games we're dying to see hit Xbox One backward compatibility New Xbox Avatars Avatars were a major component of the Xbox 360 social experience and served as one of the primary methods of self-expression over Xbox Live. These customizable digital characters eventually became tightly integrated into several aspects of the Xbox platform, with numerous appearances across social features and even games themselves. Following the Xbox One's release, Avatars were pushed to the background and nowadays, are all but abandoned. In current versions of the OS, there's little incentive to even open the dedicated Avatars app - let alone frequently investing in them. As showcased at E3 2017, Avatars are also set to see a major overhaul later this year. Built from the ground up in the Unity engine, the second generation of Avatars come with hugely increased flexibility. Among the improvements are enriched emotions, diversity, and customization, which each give players the tools for true individualism. Hoping to encompass a larger demographic of games, Avatars will be able to portray disabilities, style preferences, different backgrounds and more. Support for USB devices The scope of peripherals compatible with Xbox One is also set to expand going forward, with support for various USB devices on the horizon. Plans have been outlined to expand to a wider range of Plug and Play devices, such as USB-connected webcams, headphones, and microphones. However, without an exact timeline for when support for USB devices will be implemented, the feature may also still be some time off. Although USB accessories are already available for Xbox One, such as Turtle Beach's Stream Mic, these devices were built specifically with support for the console in mind. Leveraging the Windows 10 kernel at the core of the Xbox One OS, the update should allow the console to automatically handle driver installation. As a result, this should eliminate the need to purchase Xbox-specific accessories, if you already own a Windows-compatible equivalent for PC. However, this is feature that may not make an appearance this year, depending on how development has progressed. What features do you want to see? Previously we asked you which features you'd like to see on Xbox One going forward. We made sure to compile these into a wish list, bringing together your requests together into a single location. After looking at the additions expected this fall, what else would you like to see? Make sure to drop a comment below with your thoughts. As always, make sure to revisit this article in the months ahead, once more details drop!

Microsoft has been beta testing custom gamerpics for Xbox Live since March, and it’s now rolling out the feature to everyone on the gaming service. You can now set custom images on Clubs, Gamerpics, and even Club backgrounds, all through Windows 10, an Xbox console, or the Xbox apps for iOS and Android. Mixer co-streaming is also being enabled in an update rolling out to Xbox One today, allowing Xbox owners and up to three friends to broadcast together on the game streaming service. While this Xbox update doesn’t provide any major changes, Microsoft is also adding the ability to link a controller to an Xbox One profile. This lets specific controllers in a household sign into specific Xbox Live accounts when they’re turned on and paired to a local console, which is useful for families. Alongside these updates, Microsoft is tweaking its Arena feature for competitions with better UI improvements, and improving the LFG experience on the Xbox mobile apps. The Xbox app for Android is also getting chat bubbles, which lets you carry on chatting through Xbox Live when you’re using other apps or games on an Android phone.
