"Oga, we don't want please". This was my statement to one oga photographer at an event. I and my cousin attended a big event far away from home. We got there pretty early and decided to take some pictures using our mobile devices. While we were at it, someone walked up to us saying, "Beautiful ladies, let me help you ". I turned to see who it was. Behold, a photographer. "Bros don't worry",I said. "You ladies don't need to stress yourself, let me help you", he persisted; as he took my cousin's phone from her. I decided to put mine aside as he took the pictures. While we posed, he took some shots. Suddenly, he held the phone and started taking pictures with his professional camera. "You ladies look so beautiful on camera", he said. "Oga we don't want please, don't use your camera, just use the phone." He paid deaf ears and continued taking the pictures with his camera. "This guy will not hear now o, I whispered to my cousin", as we continued posing. When he was through, he gave my cousin her phone while showing her the pictures he took. I did not bother looking at the pictures as I waited for her so we could both go into the event hall. At last we went in. The event started. We chatted, laughed, danced, and celebrated with enough to eat and drink. Party is over, time to go home. I and my cousin joined the crowd as we walked out of the hall. Suddenly, the photographer approached us with copies of large pictures in his hand. He handed the pictures to my cousin. "Are they for free", she asked. "It's 1000naira each, he said. "Oga, we told you that we don't want." I said "Who will pay you 1000naira each?" My cousin asked. "Please, Sis let's go home". I walked away as my cousin handed him the pictures. "How much you wan pay?", he asked. "500 each, my cousin said. "Which 500 naira?, I asked her "Home is far away from here o you know the cost of transportation, I added. "Oga, we did not budget this, so we will give you 1,500 for everything, I replied. He frowned at me, hissed and walked away. "Did I say anything bad? I asked as my cousin laughed. Well he can add them to his picture collections", I said, while laughing. As we got to the exit gate, a young guy ran up to us with the same large pictures in his hand. "My Oga say make una bring money," he said. I and my cousin looked at each other and laughed. She gave him the money and he handed the pictures to her. She gave me a copy, kept the rest and we headed home. Have you encountered this kind of Oga photographer who will want to take pictures of you without your consent at an event? My neighbour came to my apartment this morning telling me that she is heading somewhere. She said one of their political party leaders wanted to give them Christmas gifts and they were asked to come with persons who will also benefit. (I guess she wanted me to join her and take part in the Christmas gifts 🤗). "Okay Ma", I said as I went back to my bed because I wasn't ready to go anywhere. So she left. In less than 30 minutes, there was a knock on my door. It was my neighbour again. "Ma, you are back so early?", I asked. "No mind the man. E say make we carry people come say e wan share Christmas gifts. I don call the people wey go follow me go o na im I just receive call from the man." She continued talking. "E say person call to tell am say people don full the venue dey wait for Christmas gifts. E say nooooooooooo! E no want crowd o". "What was he expecting before when he said he wanted to give Christmas gifts?", I asked. "No mind!" She exclaimed. "E say make I just come collect my own for him place jeje", she said. "I reach there nah, nah one rubber of rice he carry give me". I get money pass am! She vented! . "Did you collect the rice? I asked. "Yes nah!", She said. I tried not to laugh but I couldn't hold it 🤣🤣🤣 Now the persons she called are calling her on the phone to know how far with the Christmas gifts. "The man no do anything again o! He say e no want crowd..." 🤣🤣🤣 On a more serious note, when you tell people to come for Christmas gifts in this economy what are expecting; two or three persons? For free suntin, no try my country people o! Na one person go call another, wey go call another, wey go call another, before you know, people go full ground! 🤣🤣🤣 Thebeezybee #thebeezybee #Christmas #gifts #on #saturday #morning

With the hausa language communication between my cousin and the man selling, I bought two that are bigger than this for 1,000 here in Benin today. |
You may have heard of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World which include the Great Pyramid of Giza, Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Temple of Artemis, Statue of Zues, Mausoleum of Mausolus, Colossus of Rhodes and the Lighthouse of Alexandria; but have you heard of Iya of Benin Kingdom? Iya, known as the Benin moat, formed part of the Great Benin Wall. It is one of largest man made earth work which was constructed as a defensive fortress against invaders. The first and second Iya was dug during the reign of Oba Oguola (1280 - 1295) and an extension was constructed during the reign of Oba Ewuare the Great (1440-1473). It covered a border distance of about 16,000km with enclosed 6,500km² of community land. It had nine gates which were guarded round the clock by the Iyokuo (soldiers) with instructions from the Ókakuo(commander). This restricted access to the city and kept out European slavers from carrying out their merchandise in the city. (Talk about the best man made defilade! ). Sadly, like other Wonders of the Ancient World, Iya has lost it's former glory. (All thanks to the British invasion in 1897 ). Now, this wonder 'wanders' in ruins across the city. Interestingly, in 1961 it was declared a national monument and The Guinness Book of Records (1974 edition) described the walls of Benin City and its surrounding kingdom as the world's largest earthworks carried out prior to the mechanical era. Whenever I see the ruins, I salute the efforts of those who created such wonder and I wonder what would have been the state now if it wasn't destroyed?

It's a sad situation that some of the law enforcement agents do nothing but 'enforce corruption' instead. This issue of Jungle Justice wouldn't have been as it is now in our society. Orgasmgiver123: |
I still think that there a better ways to handle such not jungle justice. Orgasmgiver123: |
I am marveled that some persons support such. Beating someone till the person losses consciousness and killing? It's quite unfortunate Usorohtheman: |
Whoever said that? Usorohtheman: |
Killing of another person is not justified. Fairmedia: |
I wonder. Usorohtheman: |

Something happened this morning on my way to work. I joined a bus to work this morning that was filled with persons going to work as myself and some going to the market.( You could tell from the bags they carried). We approached a bus stop that was crowded with people. The bus driver stopped as one of the passengers had to alight. Seeing the large crowd and some guys lying unconsciously on the ground, the next question was "What is happening here?" We were told that the guys lying on the ground were caught in the act of stealing. Trust some of my country men who got no chills. They have given these guys beatings of their life making them unconscious. Guess what some passengers in the vehicle said "You guys are wasting time, just put tires on their necks and set them ablaze." What ??My response was to the guy in front because he was really stressing the issue. "Oga sir, that's not right. Jungle justice is not the option. They should be handed over to the police". "Which police? By the time they hand them over to the police, they will be released and then go back to the same act", he responded. "They should just burn them once and for all so that they will never try stealing in their life again". "How is it possible that they will try it again when they are dead?" I thought. Luckily, some security operatives got to the scene and we left. I am sure that they will handle the issue as it ought to be. I can't believe people(especially the ones that you think are learned) support jungle justice! What's your take?

Let's have a bit of throwback! I remember when I and my sister were given ₦1(one naira) as pocket money to purchase snacks during break time in school. I would take 50kobo and give her 50kobo. With ₦1, we could purchase chin-chin, kuli-kuli, sweets, and other snacks. I could still remember using the coin as a tool in drawing the National Coat of Arm. I will just place the coin under my note book and shade. Then boom! It appears on my notebook as though it was done by a professional artist . At home, my mum would ask me to go and buy 'Akamu' (pap) and sugar. Pap and sugar were sold at the rate of ₦1each. With ₦5 (five naira), I will buy 'Akamu' ₦3 and sugar ₦2 Even 'Akara' (Bean cake) was sold for one naira. So with ₦10(ten naira), you could have breakfast. Just buy Akara ₦5 Akamu 3 naira and sugar 2naira that's it!. I really missed going to my dad's office after school, just to get some of those coins that he kept on his table for us. Oh ₦1! Why have we forsaken you? For the younger ones, you might only be familiar with the faces you have on the 1,000 naira note right? Right! Let me educate you. You see the face on the one naira coin? That is the face of Olayinka Herbert Samuel Heelas Badmus Macaulay, regarded as the founding father of nationalism in Nigeria. (If you want to know more, go for history classes ). To the older ones, what is your memory about ₦1coin?

Stop shedding crocodile tears". You might have heard or made this statement. The statement means an expression of sorrow or remorse that is insincere. I think I have done such to avoid being punished as a child . Do you know that the expression 'Crocodile tears' is derived from crocodiles shedding tears? No? Yes it is. Crocodiles really do shed tears while they eat their prey. Mind you, this is not because they feel guilty for their actions . On the contrary, they relish such moment. it's just a feeding behaviour. The tears are produced as a result of the hisses and huffs they make while devouring their prey. It's just like you consuming that hot spicy delicious meal and you make some inaudible sounds. Then some liquids come trickling down from your nose or tears drip out from your eyes (You know how it is ). So, the statement 'crocodile tears' is not just an idiomatic expressions but a statement of fact. So tell me, have you ever shed crocodile tears?

This is a poem that speaks of the killings happening in our country, Nigeria and around the world. These killings should STOP. What has happened to the conscience of man? THE BLEEDING HEART I am the Bleeding Heart, Not the beautiful flower that shows natures art, Tears rip my heart in parts And now, my heart bleeds. My heart bleeds, As humanity weeps, Weeping over her crushed seeds, Seeds whose desire was to grow, Grow and blossom with flowers, Roses, Dahlias, Tulips, Hibiscuses, Lilies, Daffodils, Daisies, Plumerias, Carnations, Sunflowers, Adding their awesomeness to the beauty of nature. But now, what is left of these seeds? They are crushed. Crushed by the created, The created man, Man, what has happened to your conscience? Conscience formed out of love, Love now replaced with hate? Hate burning daily leaving these seeds crushed. Crushed as young, old, Male, female, Rich, poor, White, Black Crushed in the night, Crushed in the day, Crushed in their homes, Crushed as they walk, Crushed in their sorrow, Crushed in their happiness, Crushed in their sleep, Crushed as they work, Crushed in their silence, Crushed when they speak, Crushed in search for daily bread, Crushed intentionally, Crushed as they fight for their rights, Crushed when their voices accept defeat, Crushed in their place of worship, Crushed in their place of business, Crushed in their quest for knowledge, Crushed while seeking for justice, Crushed in service to man, Crushed in their numbers, Crushed, crushed, crushed Crushed with no breath, To see the light of another day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rEqnBlmLts |
