DEDICATED TO IDOWU OLUWADAMILARE EMMANUEL. A.K.A T. B. M on this occasion of my 28th birthday. 8. THE DOG ATTENDANT. [T. D. A] The kind of look I gave the boy after he suddenly told me to wait was so full of fright and it evidently scared the little boy a bit. "Is someone coming?" I reiterated furtherly to him. He shook his head negatively as his eyes blinked in quick succession. "No " "No? Then why did you want me to wait? ". I asked him again. "my assignment, I want to finish it... " He portrayed a mild expression as he spoke out his mind. "Assignment? What a ridiculous thing to say at a time like this" I muffled under my breath. I wanted to get angry at him for that but somehow, I managed to hide my anger behind the surface of a calm face. I didn't want to do anything that will scare my son from me. Not now when I'm this close to achieving my mission. "Which assignment?" I managed to ask him calmly when he begin to bite his fingers. Instead of answering me, Chris turned around and head straight to the bed where he had previously dropped the book I saw earlier with him. I stood motionlessly behind the door trying to figure out what he wants to do. He walked back to me and showed me the book. "Which book is this? " "My assignment, I want to do it finish before we go... " He pleaded. I was somehow surprised to hear that but then I remembered he was telling Joke earlier in the compound that he wants to go and do his assignment instead of saying sorry to Lewis. I groaned under my breath when I remembered that. "But wait Chris, why do you want to do it now? Are you not going to see your daddy again? " "I want to, but I also promise my mummy and Josiah that I will do my assignment and have more marks than him. But if I don't do it now, Josiah will say I'm olodo, that I don't know anything." "Who is this Josiah again? Thunder wan fire him?" I asked him but dropped the volume on the latter part of the statement and also with a pretence to make him believe that I care about his plight. "Aunty Amaka's son, she's my mummy's friend and Josiah is also my friend too... " He replied. My neck instantly went into a bending posture as my brain started looking for ways to solve this new problem. Time is of the essence here. Joke and Lewis might come back anytime. Only God knows what they are still doing outside that's taking long like this. "But you know that your bad uncle Lewis may come back inside anytime and if he see's us, he will want to fight us... " I've already finished my statement before the bewildered look I saw on his young face made me realise the mistake I made in saying those word, so I quickly added.. "Not that I can't beat him but because of your mummy, I don't want her to get hurt when I send my thunder to fire him.. And you know, your mummy will be on his side. So we should hurry up here before someone gets hurt. " "But, I want to do it. If you help me do it, it will be fast and my uncle cannot meet us here.. " He countered. "Even if we do it, how will you be able to submit it? Since you are going to meet with your daddy today... " I was hoping that would make him change his mind but the boy gave me another reason to believe he truly came from my sperm when he moved closer to me and said; "Shebi you are an angel, you can take me to our church on the way and I will give it to Mrs Ezenwa by myself... " He said those words with enthusiasm. I released another frustrated breath as I stared at my son's face. In his eyes, I could see how determined he was. I don't think there's anything I can do other than to grant his childish request only with the hope that I don't later regret it. This is already taking longer than expected. I'm still unable to come up with a perfect plan to handle Lewis and Joke together. Assuming they both see me at the same time, surely, I'll want to tackle Lewis first but there is no guarantee that Joke will not want to raise alarm while I'm battling with Lewis and that will undoubtedly spell doom for me if she does. The only way to make sure that doesn't happen is to leave the house as soon as possible without being seen by either of them. I checked the digital wall clock to see the time. It says, 10:15. Which means I've spent more than an hour already. Chai, I'm very lucky that my presence in this house still remain unknown to the grown ups. "Okay..." I finally said to him after thinking it through. "Lets do it." "Thank you angel Zeus. ". He thanked with a delightful tone. He was very happy to the extent he gave me a bear hug. I patted him on his back to acknowledge his appreciation even though I wasn't happy with the new development, but what can I do? The fact that he has even agreed to follow me out of the house without raising any alarm should be enough for me to grant whatever request he makes. Childish or not. I first locked the door very well just in case someone wants to come in unannounced. I held his hand and led him back to the bed quickly. "This is it... " He opened the book and placed it on my laps after we have both settled down on the edge of the bed. A mere glance at the topic of the page in which the assignment was given is enough to let me know that this is where the boy will know that I'm a fake angel. All the words I saw in there at a quick glance are biblical words. Truly, my son has done the first seven questions by himself. Maybe he got them right is what I don't know. The last three are the ones he wants me to help him to solve. I no dey go church talk less of reading the bible. How can this boy expect me to know all the answers to this questions?. "Are you sure you even know how to do all these by yourself?" "Yes.... ". He replied quickly. "At this age, you can read and write very well? " "Yes angel Zeus... I can write my name by myself when I was in K.G 2. And now I can write very well in prmary two and read too... I came first in my class every..... ". "Its okay.... " I quickly cut in. Its okay, before you say something that will make me think you are trying to make mockery of me. The only first wey dey my result throughout my education na the ones that comes with older sibling like 2 and 3 that will make it 21st and 31st. I was so confused for hearing that seriously. At age six when my mummy still dey beat me everyday on how to write 3, 5, 4, letter G and B? This one don sabi everything? All the brain wey suppose dey inside my head, na inside my sperm he go dey? Now this boy don pack everything. There is no way I'm giving birth again. Who knows if I will even be left with any brain once I have another child.? "But why haven't you let your mummy help you with this remaining ones? " I queried him with a finger pointed at the book. He moved more closer to me before he started talking. "She wants to help me do it, I'm the one that say I can do it by myself... ". he beats his chest as he finished saying that. "Then why haven't you completed it already? " "I forgot my bible inside the church. " "Don't your mummy have another bible you can use? " "I can't use her own, mine is bible for children.. My mummy's own do not have pictures.. It's inside the bible that we will see the answers... . " He explained. 'Hmmmm, you should have let your mummy help you. Too much arrogance at this early age will cost you some of the marks now, because me wey you give this book no sabi anything for here o. ' I made those complaint within me as I stared cluelessly at the book. "you know the answers very well?.. " He must have been studying the kind of tensed look on my face before he asked that. My heart almost skipped a beat after my son said that. That is exactly one of the things I was trying to avoid by telling him all the things I told him earlier so he can change his mind. There is no way I can lie my way out of this now. I can't tell him that a whole angel like me doesn't know anything from the bible. He will definitely smell my fluke and call me a fake. |
Gold and Silver? I have none. Benz and G-wagon? I have none. Naira and Dollar? I have none. Coke and Fanta? I have none? Rice and. snacks? I still have none. I'm not stingy, but that's how I am right now. There is nevertheless one thing I can offer as a sign of appreciation to ALL that have wished me well on this 28th occasion of my birthday. CONTINUATION OF T. D. A 7. I took a few steps towards him after the completion of my statement and stopped within a feet of him. The boy still stood motionless even as I got more closer to him. Feeling his presence so close to me was tempting me to touch and hug him, but no, I can't do that just yet. Its enough that he is not shouting at my presence already. Don't let me push my luck further. "For real? You can take me to my daddy?" The boy said out in a surprised expression after giving me another head to toe survey. "Yes.... God never fails his children. He hates to see them suffer in the hands of people like Lewis when their real father is somewhere waiting and crying everyday because he wants to see them. Your daddy misses you soooooo much. " I don't really know where those words were coming from, all I know is whenever I open my mouth, words are coming out. "But uncle Lewis said my Daddy is dead.... " He blurted out suddenly. That statement hits me like a sledge hammer. Evidently, this Lewis is truly a bastard. How can he be telling a small boy such things? This guy is truly out to destroy me. No problem sha, I have a plan for him already. I will make him rot away in prison very soon. He's gonna pay for all the pains he has brought to my life. I promise him that. but first thing first, I must first get out of this country, then I can come back to make him pay for all his transgressions. I gave the boy a sultry smile that perfectly hides my sadness before I found my voice again. "You know Uncle Lewis is a bad person right?". He affirmed by nodding his head. "So you don't expect him to say good things to you. What if I tell you that he his also the one that took you away from your father because he wants to be hurting you everyday?." "Hun" "I saw it when I was coming from heaven the way he lied perfectly against you this morning and also when he slapped you too...." "Wow.....You saw that?" Suprisedly, he cried out. I nod my head in response."Yes Chris, I saw it very well. " "you did not help me to tell my mummy, why? " He complained with a typical baby tone and reaction by folding his arms around his chest. I was already cramming my brain for what response to give him before I quickly remember that he also didn't tell Joke anything when the latter showed up at the compound. "The same reason you have for not telling her yourself Chris, is the same reason I also didn't tell her anything" He frowned his face a little. "You and I know that your mummy will never believe anything we say against your bad uncle Lewis... " "but my mummy is not a bad person, its uncle Lewis that is very bad. " He grumbled under his breath. "I know... Chris, believe me, as an angel, I know how bad he is... " I assured him before quickly adding, " But don't worry, God has called a meeting for his case already. God is ready to go anywhere for his case. He is presently working on a special plan to make uncle Lewis pay for everything he has been doing to you. And that is why you must follow me out of this place today so that all those plans of God will not fail.. Trust me on that. " The boy took his time to scrutinize my face for a brief moment before he blurted out his next question. "Is it God that also create him? " "Create who? " "Bad uncle Lewis" "Nooooo.... Not at all. It was satan that created him. When God found out that satan has been creating people without his permission, he got angry and sent me and other angels to arrest them. He escaped from where we were keeping them and since then God has been looking for him. ". I said all that without even blinking at all. "Really? " His eyes shone widely the moment he heard that from my lying and cunning mouth. "Tell him he's in our house! We can lock the door so he will not run away!". He was almost shouting when he made those statements. "Don't worry, God already knows that he's here." "Huh-hoh... " "God wants to first of all deal with Satan, and then he will come back here to handle your bad uncle Lewis. " A chuckling sound erupted from his mouth after he heard me say that. "Because Uncle Lewis is from the Devil right? "Yes... He his a direct product of satan. So what we will do now before he comes back to this house is that, you and I, we will leave this place now now. " "To meet my real daddy? " Eagerly, he asked me. I smiled inside of me for the kind of progress I'm having on this little lad. "Ofcourse Chris. Your daddy loves you so much...He has been crying everyday unto God so that he can bring you to him. And now, God has sent me, one of his most trusted angels to come and answer your daddy's prayer.. " He rubbed his hands in glee as he pondered on what I just told him. I was very excited because this boy appeared not to be giving me any problem at all. Sure that was what I thought, until he asked me this question from nowhere. "What is your own name? " He asked me as he moved more closer to where I was standing. Geez.. Which name will I tell him now? I don't know the name of angels to give him. The only two names I know among the angels are Michael and Gabriel. Whereas I must come up with a sensible answer quickly before this boy starts growing suspicious of me. And that might end my chances of taking him with me today. If I fail today, there is no guarantee that I will ever see this boy again. "Why do you ask?" I suddenly asked him that, just to be able to get enough time to come up with a trick to outsmart him as I was already planning of telling him that my name is angel Gabriel. I just pray he doesn't ask me to tender my birth certificate to verify my claim. He frowned and narrowed his look at the exposed part of my hand again before talking. "What color is this? ". he said pointing to my hand. I raised my hand to my face level before replying him. "You can call it fair or not too light.. " I answered him as I was trying to figure out what he was driving at. "Is that so? " Wetin this boy dey talk, shey I no sabi color again ni? I checked the complexion of my hand again and nod my head affirmatively. "yes. This is fair color... " I reaffirmed. "Angel Gabriel and Angel Michael are not fair, my teacher told us they are whites... But you are fair, not white... ". He explained with a gesture of his hand that was directed towards my hand. "so you are saying am not angel Gabriel by just looking at my hand? " Almost feeling defeated, I managed to come up with that question. "Yes.... " He muttered alongside a nod. "Erm... Erm.... " I stammered momentarily as this little boy just gave me another herculean task. "So what is the difference between white and fair? I just want to know how much you have been using that brain that God told me to give you on the day you were born. Tell me Chris, what is the difference? " I asked him with a wry smile and slight bow. The reason why I asked him that is just to make his little brain wander for a while until I can come up with a perfect tactic to outsmart him, but I got the greatest shock of the moment when the little boy walked to his shoe rack and picked one black shoe and another brown one. He came back to me and showed them both to me. "My mummy said I can't wear these shoes together because they are different in color.... this one is brown while this one is black." He dropped that again and returned the shoes to the rack. Geeze.... My brain is paining me. No wonder Lewis hates this boy? See how this little muppet is making an angel to sweat? Look at the cunning way he used in telling me that Fair and White are not the same... I'm almost the square of his age for heavens sake. Chai.... Forget it, if I were to be in Lewis shoes, I will probably be beating this boy everyday even if he no do anything to warrant any beating. I will just call him one day and say, "come here Chris, I'm going to beat you mercilessly for what you did to me three years ago. " "Angel, please tell me your name.... " His cute little voice strayed into my thoughts again. I shifted my gaze sideways just to avoid his look for that moment. I can't even find the right words to describe what I'm feeling at that moment. Tensed and scared at the same time. All this because of this little lad. 'Seriously, I wasn't expecting all these type of questions and talks from a six years old. No doubt he is very smart, the only place I've known of kids like this was when I was watching that program, 'AMERICA'S GOT TALENT in YouTube, where a three years old baby will be reciting the periodic table that made me fail my SS2 chemistry exams. . I have watched HOME ALONE, BABBY'S DAY OUT and other Child Disturbing Elders Movies but never for once thought it could ever be possible in real life. Not in my wildest dreams did I ever thought of encountering one of such kids in my lifetime talkless of fathering one. But here I am, in the most complicated of situations, staring at one of them. Evidently, this little boy is the aggregate of my brain and character. I can't even begin to imagine what his other twin would have looked like if he hadn't died at birth. He would have probably be smart as this cute little boy in front of me. But no problem sha, I go show this one say na me be hin papa. Na inside this world you meet me. We fit get the same brain, but my prick is longer than yours.' I told myself and returned my look to him. Now with a more determined mind to outsmart him. "Okay, if I tell you my name, will you follow me and stop asking questions? because I only have a limited time to spend here... " "If I don't have to, I will not ask..I want to know so I can tell my friends too. " He answered me in that baby-like tone again. "But....but you are meeting your daddy today, you don't need to tell your friends anything... You may not see them after today again" I stressed out with a soft tone. "If I get to my daddy, I will have new friends. I want to tell them that I've seen an angel before" I processed his reply briefly and saw nothing wrong in it. Having in mind that all I need to do is to do everything possible to get him out of here first, then I will know how to handle him later. So I decided to tell him one name he will never be able to doubt. There is no way his little brain will know all the names of the angels in heaven. Even if his sunday school teacher dey collect 1million naira per week he self no fit. We are already spending too much time here already. "Okay...." I cleared my throat before proceeding. " From the realm of the mighties of heaven, I present myself to you Master Chris, as Angel Zeus, the commander in chief of the third battalion of the thunder forces of heaven. " Seeing the surprised look on his face, I was encourage to continue. "Only third in rank to Chief Angel Gabriel and Angel holy Michael. The two of the most loyal servants of the creator of heaven and earth." He displayed a skeptical look after I'd ended my speech before he spoke again. "Oookkay.... " He said slowly and casted a look that frightened me towards my sides before he spoke again. "But where is your wing?" He gestured towards my sides. "Erm, I'm not really a wing fighter. I don't operate from the wing. But once there is a battle to be fought, I can operate from the middle and defense. Only other angels like Gabriel and Michael are allowed to operate from the flank. " I ended with a smile. I was so sure I've answered him well that I even laughed a bit when the look on his face changed to a surprise one. "I don't mean that wing... " He said again and that instantly ended the smile on my face. 'Which wing is he talking about please.. Someone should help me out here. The only wings I've ever known in my life are the ones I played on the football pitch. Seven and eleven and that's why I'm trying to relate it with my heavenly status. "The wing that angels use to fly... " He added quickly when he saw the confused look on my face. "Oh! " I nearly slapped myself for being so dull that I didn't know that one earlier. "My wings,? Yes my wings.... I left them outside..." That was dumb, accepted, sincerely I didn't intend to say that, but the Lying application I downloaded the moment I stepped inside his room by deciding to accept the angel role has been sponsoring most of the things I've been saying. I just hope it doesn't affect what I'm trying to do here. "Why did you put it outside?" Bewildered, he asked again. "Erm... Your room is too small for my wings and they can't fit in here, thats why I left them outsi..... " He didn't let me finish before he chipped in his curiosity. "Ah, what if Uncle Lewis finds it and start flying away? " I was suprised to hear that but I managed to smile before answering him. "Don't worry" I placed a hand on his young shoulder. "Your bad Uncle can't use my wings and even if he does, he won't be able to fly for long before he ends up deep inside the Atlantic ocean... And you know the big whales... " I demonstrated to him how a whale bites before I continued. " The big whales will eat his bad head.... " He smiled satisfactorily as I finished my statement. "I like you angel Zeus.... You are a good angel. " He remarked smiling. Thunder fire your left yansh. I tell you say I be your papa for this game. How old are you wey you wan dey give me headache? Nonsense and calculator. "Can we go now? " I asked him with a hasty look after he had stopped smiling. "Yes.... Yes....I hate this place and everyone... They beat me everytime." "I understand... " I checked inside my pockets to see if the key I took earlier was still there, confirming its presence, I grabbed Chris' hand and begin to walk towards the door. I was very happy that my mission will be free of troubles afterall. The car I brought here will still be at the place I parked it. All I need to do is to sneak out through the back gate to avoid contacting Lewis or Joke and from there I can easily find my way to where the car is. Once I get out, I will look for means to call Jide to help me get a house in a safe place where I can hide for the mean time. This boy already likes me, I will continue to tell him every necessary lie he wants to hear until he accepts me as his personal lord and saviour. Those were the thoughts that crept through my mind as my child and I heads towards the door. I held the handle and was about to open the aluminum door before Chris spoke. "Angel Zeus wait," That came out more like a command tone. "Someone is coming?" I mumbled rhetorically with a slight frightened face. THIS CAN'T BE THE END OF ME..... T. B. C. Page on Facebook... T. D. A 7 is purposely dedicated to no one else but me and myself. As I patiently await the arrival of my birthday. May 29th? 1991? Was a Wednesday. Now the same date also falls on a Wednesday in this year. Come on guys, rejoice with me. 28years inside this suicide provoking country no be small thing o. 7. THE DOG ATTENDANT. [T. D. A] The rate at which my heart was beating after the words of Lewis came out was way faster and louder than the rate at which the crotch of a drug addict hits the excessive flesh of a very fat woman in a doggy style. In simpler unerotical terms, my heart was beating heavily. "Stop there....!" "Is that you Darous?" "Is that you? Are you here for real?" "What are you doing here?" "Where did you passed into this compound?" "How did you find me?" "Let me call police.... He escaped from prison" "Who told you I'm here?" "What is your mission here?" "Who let you out of prison? " "Have you come to kill us? " "What, where.... What...and what....?". Loads of those questions is what I was nervously waiting to hear the moment I halted my steps in front of the round pillar that remained but two steps away from me. I was anxiously expecting to hear footsteps or angry words like I stated above to be directed at me but somehow all of them refused to show up. On the contrary, this was the statement that eventually showed up... "Morning sir, please may I get your attention here sir? ". Those words came straight from the outside part of the gate which was very close to where Lewis and Joke were sitting down. I managed to pull some courage to look at the entrance before quickly completing my steps to the round pillar where I was headed before. None of them was looking in my direction. Even if they did, the driver's door of the car and the rear ones that was opened would have prevented them from seeing me unless they stand up. So literally, I shouldn't have panicked in the first place but you can't simply blame me for that, you would probably have done the same thing if you were in my shoes. "Don't follow me. Wait here, let me attend to him... ". I heard Lewis say and I managed to turn around to look in their direction after I'd successfully hide myself behind the white round pillar. "No, let's go together.... Lets see who it is.... " Joke told him as she got to her feet and adjusted her short top. I saw as they begin to take a slow and cautious steps towards the gate. Lewis first peeped through the small open hole of the gate before he looked back at Joke's face and only God knows what reaction she gave him that made him to proceed in opening the small gate. There was a figure of a man outside the gate but the long distance gave me no chance at seeing the person clearly. I tried my best to see who the person was, just to see if I'm in any kind of trouble but all attempt that I made was to no avail. Joke stood behind Lewis as he exchanged unaudible pleasantries with the man that knocked the gate earlier. They talked briefly before they both proceeded outside the gate. They closed the gate behind them after completing the task of stepping out. "Ah... That was close.... ". That was me making a sigh of relief. I caught the sight of my own face from the reflection of the glass-made aluminum door at the entrance of the house and realise how much my handsome face has diminished. It was nothing to write home about and thats assuming I have a house address to even write it to. Hairs done full every space on it. Me wey be hairy person before. I consoled myself quickly and didn't waste anymore time dweling on what I can't presently change before I enter the house. The whole house appeared to be too empty and shallow. Its hard to believe that Joke and the little boy are the only ones occupying a big and spacious house as this. Almost everything inside the house still maintained the appearance that was previously given to it by me. Taking some steps more, my eyes caught the sight of a bunch of keys placed on the dinning table. I marched there quickly and a smile erupted on my face when I identified the key that opens the back gate of the compound among it. It was after I'd successfully detached it from among others that I have a sense of belief that my mision wouldn't be so hard after all. Everything I planned as plan B, after seeing Lewis in the compound solely lies on my chances of getting the key that I just put inside the pocket of my white garment. After surveying the house for a brief moment again, I begin to look for my child without making any sound. All the four doors of the rooms situated downstairs were locked from outside and that means my child wasn't there. Next place to check is definitely upstairs. Although, the long white garment I was putting on makes it a little bit difficult to climb the stairs, nonetheless, I still managed to do it successfully without much stress. I completed the stairs to the upstairs and started searching again. I got to the third door of the room upstairs and was extremely relieved to find it unlocked. I waited a brief seconds to prepare my mind. I wasn't expecting my son to give me any problem, but one can't be too sure in situations like this. Especially not after what I just witnessed myself moments ago. That boy has shown me how smart he his, so in order to outsmart him, I need to bring my A game into this or else, I will have myself to blame if my mission fails because of my overconfident. Slowly, I pushed the aluminum door backwards, poked my head inside to see the situation of the room, seeing that it was covered in child lights, I stepped inside fully and locked the door behind me without making any sound. The room was in a perfect condition. Nothing was out of its shape. The books on the reading table were well arranged likewise the console below the plasma tv. I shifted my gaze towards where the 24inches bed was lying and saw my child gyrating his head to some music coming from the sound system plugged to his ears. No wonder he wasn't aware of my intrusion. He was sitting on the edge of the bed while holding something that looked like a textbook in his hand. I seized the moment to assimilate the very rare moment I was having at that time. Since when he was born, I never got the ideal chance to express a fatherly feelings or attention to him. Even when Joke and I were still together, the fear of implicating myself by getting too attached to him made me to give him some distance back then. I purposely set some boundaries between us so no one would get suspicious of my connection with him. That made me to wonder if he will still remember my face. If not because of my unkept appearance, I would have bet my life that he will recognise me once he sees me. Not now that every circumference of my face is covered in hairs and beards. Remembering that I don't have a lot of time to waste, I took another step forward and it was then that my child caught a glimpse of my shadow and he looked straight in my direction. For the first time in almost a year, our eyes met again. Except this time, it was only mine that recognised him as he's was just staring at me without moving. I was expecting him to make attempts of shouting to raise alarm, but surprisingly, the boy was as calm as the night sea. The kind of look he was giving me is unexplainable. Calm, cute and innocent. The boy is just too adorable. Our eyes were fully locked on each other in that moment of awkwardness. My child remained mute and motionless. Something that seemed very odd for a six years old to do in such situations. I too on the other hand was so filled with emotions. The slightest thought of getting to see my child again was sending shrills of emotions into my body. The silence of looks and emotion lingered for what seemed like eternity before I finally managed to pull myself together. Time is of the utmost essence here. I don't know when Joke and Lewis will come back inside the house. I don't know where they will want to go once they return. They might want to come in here and continue where they left it in the compound with the boy. So I need to be fast and swift in this. But still, I need to be very careful with this boy. With this kind of look he's giving me, I don't know what is going through his little mind at the moment. I was about to call his name, so that he will think of me as someone that knows him before he said something I wasn't expecting. After looking at me from head to toe, he removed his ear plugs and switched it off after which he rested his small and cute face on my face. He then stood up and said... "Am I in trouble? " Almost devoid of sound, he stated that. "Oh no..." With a very cool voice, I said that to him with a hand demonstration. " You are the most troubless child on earth...you are a good child of God. Adorable and gentle.... So there is no way you can ever be in trouble my child. " I said with prolong emphasis on the last three words. My words were evidently working on his young brain, because what he did next gave me that indidcation. He smiled. He shot me another thoughtful look before he spoke again. "Are you an angel? " So soft and innocent, those words came out again from his mouth. "you disappear to my room? You are an angel? " Curiousity could be visibly seen in his eyes as he asked that. I wasn't prepared for that kind of question but because I've already prepared my mental strength with the aim of outsmarting him, I was able to come up with something very quick that contradicts with what I already had in mind before. He probably called me an angel because of the white garment I was putting on. The effects of the lights in the room on the garment even makes it looked whiter. 'Yes, why not? if he sees me as an angel, then so be it.., who knows what he will do if I tell him headstright that I am his father? He might create a scene for me because I don't know how bad Joke and his co-horts have painted me to him. If seeing me as an angel will make him trust me, then so be it. Let me just play this angelic role. Anything to make him trust me enough to follow me out of this place is a welcome idea. '. I told myself as I took another step towards him. "Yes little one..." I replied him. "I'm an angel... God heard your cries and pains in the hands of your daddy Lewis so he purposely sent me to earth to take you away to a more safer place where your real daddy is waiting for you. Your real daddy loves you so much. He will beat hell out of anyone that dares to hurt you. That is why I'm here so I can take you to him. ". I replied as cunning as my brain could carry me. Everything now depends on how smart the boy is. |

CONTINUATION OF T. D. A 6. This boy truly is from my sperm. No need of any D.N.A, when a Mental.N.A is right in front of me. "So indirectly, you are saying you will rather be grounded than say sorry to daddy Lewis? Is that what you are trying to tell me?. " Joke stated after getting over the shock of Chris last words. "But mum, you are the one that said I shouldn't tell people what I don't mean... " Wow.... This is too much. Goddamn it, if not because I'm viewing from behind the flowers, I would have jumped ten thousand times to express the level of happiness I'm feeling inside. The kind of happiness this boy is giving me, I don't remember the last time I feel so happy like this. "Go away!" A frustrated and angry Lewis thundered. "Go now or I'll smack your face... " The boy refused to react to that order. "are you deaf?" Lewis lashed out and made a furious attempt to slap him again but Joke quickly stepped in the way. "Go upstairs and don't let me see your stubborn face until you are ready to apologise to daddy... Okay? ." See this mumu girl, referring to Lewis as a daddy when the actual daddy is right there hiding behind the flowers. The boy mumbled some words under his breath before he reluctantly turned around and walked straight to the entrance. They both watch the boy go inside before they continued there conversation after some moments of silence. They sat on the seats of the driver side of the car and the back seat. So that way, I couldn't see their body language anymore but I could still hear clearly what they were saying. The atmosphere was warming up to get sunny, but the cool breeze sweeping around the compound made it friendly to the skin. They started by first tendering and accepting apologies for what Chris did. And I was already feeling a high level of pain in my ankle region and knee and I was preparing to sneak inside to get my task done before something that Lewis said caught my attention. "I've got both good news and bad ones.. " "Hmmmm..... " "Which one do you want to hear first? " Lewis asked. "How bad is the bad news... " "You mean? " "I mean is it bad enough to make me faint? " "Funny... Well, I don't know o. It depends on how you take it sha.... " "Okay... Go with the good news first. " Joke said after another moment of silence. "Hun-hun... " Lewis cleared his throat. "Good news, your father is no longer searching for you.... " "Really? ". Joke nearly screamed. "Yes. I made sure my boys handled him well. " "Did he returned the money? " "Noooo. He would rather die than give up the money. He said those two houses your mother left behind belongs to him as her husband. We checked the documents and his name was truly written on it as the co-owner of those houses. Which is why he was able to sell them without anyone stopping him or asking questions." "So, our house don go be that! " Lamented Joke with a strained voice. "I'm sorry. You know I keep saying it, your mother made a great mistake. She should have removed his name on those documents immediately after the divorce. So that's still like a bad news but the good thing is, your father is not after you and your sister anymore. " He ended. I couldn't see how Joke reacted to that but one could guess her mood with what she said next. "So we can go back to living our lives in the city now? That's the only good thing that came out of all this trash... Right?" "Unfortunately, not yet... " " What again? Why can't we? Thought you said my father is the only one after me? " Joke moaned. "Yes I did. But not after I discovered that Darous family are also searching for you... " "Hun..... That's expected. I can handle them. So far they are not coming with guns and weapons like my father did..... " "I know you can. But do you really know why I came here very early today? " "I was planning to ask you that before all the trouble I met on seeing you." "I think Darous is on his way here... ". Lewis dropped that like a heavy bomb and my heart produce a loud beat at the sound of that. I swallowed hard as I strained my ear to listen clearly on their conversation. "Wha... Wha...what are you talking about...? ". Stuttered Joke. It was evident that she was as shocked as me. "You know I told you I've got eyes in the prison to keep me informed on his situation....? " "Ehn-ehn" Joke replied with a tone that portrays anxiety and curiosity. "one of them called me very early this morning to tell me that some people broke a prisoner out last night. He said the first person he looked out for this morning was Darous. Sadly, he was no where to be found. " "I don't believe this... How can this be possible? Why is it not on the news already? Why would he even come here? " "I think the prison commander knows about it. Or why would they hide it from the public?..... " Lewis said with a very worried tone. There was a deafening silence in the whole compound after the last words of Lewis. No need of telling you all about what I think at that moment, because in all honesty, I didn't even think about it. Like the words of the old man in my dream, "Life is what happens to you when you are busy on other plans. " Knowing life for what it is, I decided to not let it dissuade me on my plan to get out of that place with my child. All I just need is to get inside and find the key to the small gate at the back of the compound and get my child and get out of the place once and for all. Convincing my child to follow me shouldn't be a hard thing to do, judging by what just happened moments ago in my presence. Truly, I had no specific plan on how to get him out without creating a scene but now, I'm more than convinced that he will follow me. I surveyed the whole compound again as I prepared to embark on my task. If not all the nooks, I think I still remember all the crannies of the house very well having spent more than three weeks there before. I think I can still find my way around the house without losing my way. I raised my head up to see Joke and Lewis, fortunately for me, they were still sitting inside the car. They seemed to be lost in their own thoughts. Carefully and cautiously, still on my bending posture, I changed my direction towards the entrance of the house with the aim of seizing the opportunity that Chris presented to me by leaving the door slightly ajar, to sneak inside unseen. I took the first step still inside the flower area and paused to verify of the coast is clear for me to proceed. I got nothing. Encouraged to proceed, I took the next step, followed by another one, and another, and another one, and one again, still nothing,. The entrance was now just a few steps away. All I just need to do is to get myself to the round pillar of the terrace and it will be very easier to get inside unseen. I made the sign of cross, adjusted my garment so it doesn't hook any of the flower branch, checked where Joke and Lewis were sitting, seeing that they were still silent, I picked up in the speed of light and dashed towards the entrance. But as I was about to get behind the big round pillar, I stopped immediately when I hear Lewis say "Who is there?" OH LIFE! NOT AGAIN!... T. B. C @twitter, Darous_emmanuel. Instagram@ darousmart. 6. THE DOG ATTENDANT. [T. D. A] The betrayer adjusted the wrist watch in his hand as the approaching boy got closer to him. He dressed in a casual grey vest. He still carried around that oblong face he inherited from the devil. From my vantage point, I could easily hear and see everything going on within the car area. I rested my back against the wall of the fence behind me to make my posture a bit more comfortable. I was still trying to recover from the shock of seeing Lewis in that house when what happened next nearly made me threw my plans in thin air. "Morning Daddy Lewis, " I heard the boy's tiny voice greeting Lewis with a slight bow and a fright-filled voice. Lewis first looked straight at the entrance of the house probably to check if anyone was coming. He returned his gaze to the boy and within the twinkle of an eye, sent a big slap to his face with an angry look. The boy yelped in pain and so was I. It felt as if the slap had landed on my own face. Parental instinct kicked inside of me and I felt like rushing towards the scene to help the boy but strangely, something held me back. Something that wants me to be cautious. "Haven't I told you not to ever call me your daddy again? Eh? Don't you know my sperm is smart enough to avoid producing a big bastard like you and your stup*d father. " Lewis grumbled at the little boy. Those words got to the boy very hard and his willpower broke. He could handle the slap, but the abusive words of the psychotic mugu before him proved too much to handle for a little boy like him. "Next time you try that nonsense with me, I'm going to rip your ugly face off and feed it to my Labrado.... You this.... " "What is going on? ". That female voice that came from the entrance of the house interrupted the cruel words coming out of Lewis mouth. All the eyes inside the compound shifted there gazes towards the entrance at the sound of it. Unlike Lewis who had on his face a sinister grin, mine and my son's face was filled with a different thing entirely. An expression of sorrow. While my son's face still carried his weeping mood, mine clung to its distraught one as Joke, my ex-wife descended the stairs of the entrance and begin to approach the ground hosting Lewis and Chris. Joke was clad in a sky blue sleeveless top that stops at her abdomen and a black tight jean trousers. She carried no make up on her confused face as she finally gets to where other males in the compound were standing. I can't even begin to tell you how angry I was to see her on that day. The fact that she's even doing fine without caring about the awful plight she threw at me made me feel like smashing her face against a hot carburetor. But don't let me go into that now. Let me just leave my feelings aside and tell you how the events continue to unfold. "Why are you crying Chris?, Have you disrespected daddy Lewis again? " Joke asked but the boy remained mute while his palm still connects with his cheeks. Chris choose to remain silent in that instance for reasons best known to him. I wonder why he kept mute when he could have just open up and tell Joke what happened. "Don't mind him, he did what you told him not to do and I scolded him. He called me Uncle Lewis instead of Daddy, and.... " "All liars shall go to hell... " The boy fired back as he continued to rub his cheeks. "Keep your mouth shut! ". Joke snarled at the boy. "You don't talk to an elderly person that way. " "mummy why? " The boy asked with a half-crying tone. "Because he's old enough to be your father... " A moment of silence twittered her words before the boy suddenly clasped his palms in the air. "I know it....! " Chris cried out in a voice that portrays a little bit of excitement. "Know what?... " Joke asked. "My father can never beat me. But uncle Lewis will be beating someone all the time as if someone is speaking vanacular. He lie against me all the time. He tear my teddy and throw it inside the swimming pool and said I'm the one that throw it there. Mummy, I don't like him.... " "I can't believe you are standing there and let this boy say all this rubbish against me... Joke? " Lewis groaned what seemed like a defence to me. Joke first gave Lewis a cursory glance before she approached the boy, bent her posture to meet his height and stared him hard in the face. "Chris, where did I tell you that all liars and stubborn boys will go?" The boy first looked at Lewis before talking. "they will go where uncle Lewis is going... " "And which place is that? ". Joke asked sarcastically. "Hell...fire... ". Chris pronounced slowly. Wait... I want to laugh.. Seriously I cant hold it anymore. I need to laugh at that. But its a pity I dare not try to laugh right now or everyone would know of my presence. But we can't just waste this moment like that. Maybe you should help me laugh that laughter. I will see you later. "I'm out of here.... " Lewis suddenly said as Joke seemed to be pondering on a decision to make of the boy's comment. "Wait Lewis, let me handle this please... ". Joke said as she grabs Lewis arm. "What is the meaning if this?" He moaned after turning back to meet her face. How could you allow this boy to continue insulting me on daily basis. What wrong did I do to deserve this? I've been there for you all the time and this is how you repay me? " "Lewis, Lewis, I'm sorry.... You know he's a small boy... " pleaded Joke with a soft tone replica to her usual bedroom voice. "A small boy? " Lewis scoffed. "Don't be ridiculous. That spoilt brat knows more than his age and I wouldn't be surprised if he eventually ends up biting the fingers that fed him....after all, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.. " "I know you are angry... I understand.... Okay... Calm down... " she turned to the staring Chris and said. "See, I only told you to come outside and greet your daddy but see what you've done to him? You've made him angry.... ". She paused a bit and looked back at Lewis before she returned her look to Chris. "What are you suppose to do now? ". She asked the boy. "Go inside and read my book so I don't make him angry again... " Wait, who just said that? Tell me that's not coming from a 6years old boy.. Please someone should tell me not to scream out my excitement. Woooooooo..... I want to scream.... This boy keeps giving me more reasons to love him more. I must confess, I'm very much excited for seeing what I'm seeing in front of me. |
Am glad... Seriously, I'm happy today after seeing all your comments guys. It only means one thing... Seeing all your comments above made me realise how lucky I am that none of you know exactly where I live. Or else, the rate at which you for flog my childish brain back to common sense go pass be careful. Initially, my sole plan was to suspend all typings till the end of this month because I thought it rightly so, but just last week end, I grabbed my phone again and started typing. You know why? Because I saw Lionel Messi back on the field. I was thinking it would take him nothing less than two months to recover from that horrible exit from the champions league but he proved me wrong and that experience became an eye opener for me. I realise that after all said and done, I still never grow up. Despite the fact that I will be 28 on the 29th of this month, its a pity that I still carry this kind of brain for head like mushroom umbrella. If Leonel messi that has promised us that he would deliver the champions league can get back to doing what he knows how to do best, then who am I? A bloody son of thunder whose number starts from 081? Well, I'm sorry for keeping you waiting guys. I'm ready to face whatever punishment you deem fit for me. But one thing I can promise you is that, it will never happen again. So now that we are friends again, I think you guys should please help me and manage this gift. Its T. D. A 6. THANKS. THIS IS TO A FRESH START . |
CONTINUATION OF T. D. A 5 To cut the long story short, I gave an elderly woman who was going to the market a lift. On the way, I played a cunning trick on her that made her offer me her phone. I called Jide and after all the expected noise of surprise, he agreed to help me out. We arranged everything perfectly on the phone after which I gave him my online banking ID and password to complete the transaction to his own account. He agreed to help me make arrangements on how to get to Malaysia once the day breaks well enough. He knew what he was getting into. He knew its a lot of risk. He knew this could land him in big trouble once things go awol, but all the same, he still wanted to help. So, that was how my 2.5billion naira ended up in Jide's account with the hope of getting it back once I'm about to leave the country in two days time. "Where are you now going? " Jide asked me as I was about to end the call. "To see my ex-wife before I leave." I replied him. "For what? ". He queried. "To claim my child... I can't leave this country without him... " I answered back. He grumbled some words at me but I quickly ended the call. Nothing can change my mind from seeing and taking my child away from that snitching b!tch. *** I parked the car beside the roughy road of the other street before making my way to the next one where my house - which now belongs to my ex-wife - is located. This place is one of the most remote places inside the city of Ibadan so you don't expect me to see many people on the street. The street was as empty as my brain was, when I sat for my first Waec exams. I purposely built the one storey, four bedroom flat there for the main sake of getting safety from any enemy. But ironically, it's now a place where my enemies live. I know why Joke choose this particular house. Its probably to hide herself away from the wrath of my family members and friends that are looking for her. Only Jide, whom I told of where she may likely be, knows about her whereabouts. Others are still living with the believe that she had traveled back to the united states. I was still clad in my white celestial garment which has underneath it my green prison vest and shorts. The gate was closed by the time I sighted it from a few distance away. Technically, there is absolutely no way for me to get inside unless I knock the gate. But I can't do that. Not just yet. My plan is to get inside discreetly to confirm if my child is still living with Joke or he has travelled back to the states with Nike. I pray to find him inside. Once I find him, then, I will know how to handle my ex-wife to make her release the child to me. One of my prison mates have taught us how to mix a few quantity of garlic with a few salt and dettol to induce a lenghty hours of sleep on someone. So once she hands over the child to me, the next thing to do is to make her sleep for two days. By the time she wakes up, I would be out of the country. I just pray and hope to find her alone inside the house. My plan will go smoothly if I met her with only my child. PERFECT PLAN. I spent more than thirty minutes outside the gate, looking for means to get inside the house before I noticed that the gate was about to be opened. I stood at alert immediately a car started approaching from the opposite direction of the road. It was a wine colored corolla sport. A padded one. I remained clueless as to who the owner is because the side glasses were tinted ones but I have one thing in my mind, to sneak inside once the car drives in. All I need to do is just to hide beside the car as it moves in. There's a flower plantation at the inner side of the fence that almost link to the main entrance of the house. So once I get myself inside, I will hide inside the flowers pending the time whoever is driving the car will spend outside. That was my plan. *** 5 minutes later, I was still hiding behind the flowers because the person that drove the car is yet to get down. The person seemed very busy with some stuffs. The gate was already closed with the same remote control used in opening it. I was getting increasingly uncomfortable inside the flower but I still managed to maintain my cool. Shortly later, the front door of the house flew open. A very small figure appeared from there and started approaching the parked car. It wasn't until the figure got nearer to the car that my brain told me that that was my Chris. My now six years old son with Doris, Joke's mother. The boy had grown very rapidly in size that you can easily mistake him for a ten year old boy. Not fat but tall with a potential athletic body. Fair in complexion like me and also very hairy. He had on a purple Tom and Jerry top and short knickers. The dark curly low cut hair on his head is all the necessary X needed to complete the equation of his fine boy outlooks. Seeing him again sent some sort of inexpressible feelings to my body. The boy is just too cute for me to do without. Either by fire or by force, I must take him with me today. I prepared my mind for the task ahead as the door of the car opened and someone stepped outside of it. That person? Was LEWIS. THE BRAIN BEHIND MY PRESENT PREDICAMENT. T. B. C |
CONTINUATION OF T. D. A 5. At that junction, my eyes were already filled with emotional tears. Not even once have I ever thought that someone else could be passing through something more cruel than what I'm facing. I dropped to my knees and begin to sob quietly. I was weeping profusely that I was bathed in my own tears. Reason why I was engaged in that mood was best known to me alone. I truly felt pity for this man before me. "My child, now you see that this life isn't fair to all his wives. I can show you hundred of others like this man without having to go outside this prison yard but unfortunately, time isn't enough. And all of them are still striving hard to overcome the ugly challenges that this life is throwing at them. I want you to also join them in doing so. Life is like a school. But the only difference is, in school, you learn before tests, while in life, you got to learn through the tests. How well you pass now depends on how much you've learn through each phases of those tests... Before I go, let me give you two expos that can make you pass the tests of life. No matter what, remain determined and resilient. Those two things are life's kryptonite.... " The man finished talking and held my shoulder. "Time is up. You should go now... " The next thing that greeted my ears after the last words of the man were the noises of honking taxis. My eyes flew open immediately. I was suprised to find myself still lying on the driver seat of the car. I glanced around and saw that I was blocking some cars from entering the filling station and a fuel attendant is already coming to accost me. I didn't waste time to speed off from the spot. *** I entered the center of Ibadan at exactly 7:25am. The heavy thoughts of what the elderly man said to me in my dream lingered in my mind as I drove the car on the road. I decided to make a new plan. I decided that day to stop complaining about how life has been treating me. I decided to make best of the new opportunity I just found in this complicated freedom of mine. Not spiritually, I need to be born again. I must get out of this country before two days time. I can't risk getting caught by the law enforcement agencies. That would be so catastrophic. It would be like fry pan to fire. In order to get out of this country, I need to find a way to get my money from the bank, and to do that, I need the help of someone I can trust. The only person that falls in that category is my therapist. Even though I don't know where she lives, she however remained the only person I can bet my life on. Apparently, the only problem I have now is how to contact her. Even if I get a phone, I don't even know her number off hand. I continued driving with half mind as the other half of my mind was occupied with finding ways to solve my present predicament. "What of Jide?" I suddenly said to myself as the name crept into my mind. Wait, wait... I know what you want to say. You want to say "Darous, why Jide of all people remember how he betrayed you before? Or have your silly brain forgotten all the bad things he did to you in the past? Now you want to trust him with 2.5billion naira? " I know that's what you want to say but please hold it... let me tell you why his name is even worthy of consideration. "Truly, I don't fully trust him (like you've rightly said, at least not after everything he has done in the past that led me to this situation) but as it stands, he's the only one I know his number off hand, and again, he has proved himself to be a trusted ally each time he has paid me a visit in the prison. Not a single week has passed without him paying me a giftful visit in the prison. He was the one that told me everything going on about Joke and his sister. He has been feeding me with a lot of information about them since I was locked up. He's the one that told me that Joke has left the city of Abeokuta and she now lives at one of my houses here in Ibadan which is where I'm heading now. If not for him, how would I know of that important info? Apart from that, remember how he helped me with Chioma? And the role he played in getting me and Joke back together? If all that are not enough to trust him a bit, then I'm sorry, you have to excuse me. I'm presently on the move, please make way for me... Thanks for your concern. Biko. Let me test his loyalty with this 2.5million naira. I concluded in my mind to trust him. |
CONTINUATION OF T. D. A 5. Without even bothering to check who it is, I opened the door and behold, staring at me with a blurry dark set of eyes was a man covered in grey hairs and white overall. He beckoned to me to step outside. I obliged instantly and began to follow him in the direction he took. The atmosphere was terrifyingly quiet. An angel seemed to have pacified the crying sky and it had stopped raining. What was left of it were mere hiccups of water. We took some measurable steps forward on our nonstop walk before the man leading me away began to talk in a relatively calm voice. "For the past four years, I have been forced to listen to your unending rants and complaints about how life has been treating you. What I don't really understand is how you possibly think the whole word revolves around you alone. What you fail to realise is that this life has got a lot of other things on its plate to handle than focusing all its attention on only you. The fishes in the sea were living a fearless and peaceful life until the man that built the first ship was born. Likewise the birds in the sky and the animals in the forest. You are already engaged to this life the moment you were born into it. You instantly become his wife. He fuucks everyone like you would Bleep your own wife whichever way you want. At times, he decides to fucck you with tender and care and also at times, he decides to go hard. You have no choice than to surrender your pusea to him. Not only you is facing the hardest dicck of life. There are thousand of other people out there that are facing what's a lot more worse than what your grumbling mind can ever comprehend." "I stand to disagree with you sir... ". I countered the old man. "What I've faced this past years is more than what others experienced in three lifetimes. I can.... " "You sure about that?" The man asked but he gave me no chance to reply before he suddenly grabbed my hand and said in a whisper. "Let me show you this...let me show you that life is what happens to you when you are busy on other plans..... ". Shortly after he said that, I suddenly found myself back inside the prison where I'd just escaped from. Fear quickly enveloped my heart as I starred at the arrays of fellow inmates snoring on the cold floor. Only that this part of the prison is not where I slept earlier. Releasing my hand, the man stepped forward and stood in front of a light skinned man who had his head rested against the wall as he slept on. His face was covered in rough hairs and black stripes. Age and the man appeared to be at logger heads as wrinkles could be visibly seen on his facial outline. "See this man here, " The old man began. His face still remained blurred as he speaks. "He his inside this wall for an offence he knew nothing about. As you see him, he became an orphan at the tender age of thirteen. His parents left him with absolutely nothing to live with. Still, despite the cruel treatments from his family, he still strived hard to graduate from the university. He sponsored himself all through to the graduation stage. He did a lot of menial jobs to finish his education. Five years after graduating, he still remained jobless. Isn't that enough to start thinking of suicide? But no, he'd rather become a full time motor conductor. He spent another three years as a conductor until a near-life-claiming accident made him to resign. Yes, you heard that quite well. Now, let me tell you about the incident that led him here. After the conductor work, he looked for another means of survival. Unlike nowadays when there are lots of labour jobs to do to survive, back then in the early 2000, there is still little of those. You know what he started doing? He started selling pawpaw. Yes, pawpaw. He would pluck some pawpaw and sell it to a woman at a nearby mini market in his area. The woman pays him 4naira per one. So to eat a three square meal, he must pluck up to 12. You see how arduous that sounds? Still he never give up. Back to the incident that brought him here, on this fateful day, he was coming back from a small bush in a street far from his house where he had went to pluck the pawpaws. He had barely walked a few distance when one of the polythene bags he was carrying the pawpaw with busted. Thereby, sending four of the pawpaws rolling on the floor of the bushy walk way. He had no choice than to look for another means to get his goods across to the woman. Frantically, he searched around for another polythene bag and luckily for him, he saw one filled with refuse dumps sitting beside the fence of a duplex situated close to the road that links to the bushy walkway. He approached the bag with the sole aim of pouring out the refuse but as he was about to do so, a security man suddenly ordered him to stop. Suprised, he looked at the approaching security man. The security man got to him and started accusing him of trying to dump refuse beside the fence of his boss house. This man tendered his case and even told the security man to follow him to where his pawpaws were to prove his innocence but the security man would hear none of that. One thing led to the other and people started gather around them. They asked this man to turn the polythene bag upside down so they could see what was inside it. The fear of getting a serious beating for an offence he knew nothing about made him succumb to their command. This man received the greatest shock of his life when after turning the polythene bag upside down, the last things that dropped from it was too implicative. Two wards of five hundred naira notes and a pistol were the last things that fell from the bag after the few refuse on its top had dropped first. You know, the police got involved and this man was arrested. They carried out investigations on the evidences and it was then that they found out that the same type of bullet that was used to assassinate a senator the previous week in that same street were the ones found inside the gun they retrieved from inside the polythene bag. The court sentenced this man to 34 years in jail based on the evidences found against him. All attempts to prove his innocence fell on deaf ear on. All his ambition, and aspiration and determination to become someone in life, all went into thin air because he was fuccked with the most hardest dicck of this life. 26years ago, he was striving to become someone, but unfortunately now, he could hardly recognise himself before a mirror.... 5. THE DOG ATTENDANT. [T. D. A] The time was 4:22am by the time I pulled over in front of the filling station situated along Apata there in the large city of Ibadan. The reason why I stopped was because the rain was dropping heavily and water has started dominating the possession of the road. I adjusted the seat of the car so I can relax well pending the time. I had barely spent two seconds in my new posture when the memory of what happened hours ago began to highlight in my brain. The sudden death of Lovelyn still felt like an electric shock to me. I was finding it very difficult to come to terms with the ugly fact that another person had just died because of me. 'Why is it that everywhere I go, death usually follows?' I asked myself. 'Truly, Lovelyn played a larger role in her own death but must it be at my own expense? Cant she just find another time and place to die other than getting me involved?' I held my head tightly as those thoughts continue to stream my troubled mind. 'Now her husband is after me. As if I don't already have enough problems to solve.. The police will soon be on my trail once the day breaks and my absence in the prison is known. They will instantly know that it was I that caused the chaos that happened few hours ago. The whole country will be searching for me. The customs, police, army, soldier, Efcc, I.C.P.C, INEC, PHCN, NFL, airforce, waterforce, gaseousforce and spiritual force will all be on my trail. Ah, I'm now a fugitive because some sets of greedy individuals wants my money and last hope?. Twenty four hours ago, I was snoring my life away under the roof of the Oba prison. Not in my wildest imaginations would I have ever thought that I will be in this kind of a mess in the next hours. Darous, where did you took that costly wrong step that led you to this catastrophic junction? Where in your life did you got it soo wrong?' I queried myself while my teeths remained in a bitting relationship with my lower lips. 'Seriously, I miss those days. When I would wake up and the first thing that comes to mind is how to get to the soccer pitch very early so I can play the first set. Days when merely starring at the big heap made up of my used clothes will be giving me ebolaristic headache. Days when the journey to where to fetch water to bath is like a million kilometers to my then slouchy self. Days when all the problem I had was to think of what to eat, what to wear and which party to attend. Days when my most concerns were plainly where to get a token of Hundred naira to watch a Chelsea match at the viewing center. Days when my concerns were where I would see hundred naira to recharge my line. Days when how to fucck Divatolas -my ex girlfriend- was the topmost of my priority. Honestly, I miss those days when I could visit any of my friends house to eat. Days when I can pick my phone to call my mum because I need Garri and rice and she would send them to me the following market day. I thought being rich will be the solution to all my problems, I thought if I could just be like half of Dangote, all my problems would disappear...but little do I know that every status in life has its own equal problems. In summary, I miss those days of being broke. Those days I used to complain about apparently turns out to be the most joyous days of my life, because those days were the only time I had peace of mind. I continued to rant and rant for several minutes until...until...until... I said until I heard a knock on the glass window of the car I was inside. |

CONTINUATION...... Few inches between us, Jarter slowed down a little and stopped right in front of me. I on the other hand was banging my back against the wooden wall hoping that it would give way but no, the wall was as strong as Barcelona's defence against the mighty missiles of Liverpool. I had underestimated it by the way it looks but now I'm regretting it. I was majourly scared of what will happen to me if this man called Jarter overpowers me, but nonetheless, my mind never stopped working. It was looking for every possible means of escape. Without giving me another chance to make any move, Jarter suddenly plunged forward towards me with the aim of grabbing me but luckily for me I was very fast to sweep to one side thereby causing Jarter to collide his head with the wall. He sniffed angrily and turned around at me. "You are so dead today. " He shouted ferociously. "Should I call Capable? ". Lovelyn asked in a frenzied tone. "For what! " Jarter lashed out at her. " to come and help me beat this thing? " "Jarter, this is not the time to be feeling too confident, this guy can outsmart us both... " She tried to protest but Jarter wasn't ready to give in either. "will you keep quiet? If your father with all his wisdom can not stop me from marrying you, then who is this one that I can't handle? Keep quiet and watch how I got my reputation. no be moin-moin" Jarter warned. His full attention was now focused on me. The only way out of here is through the door by the right hand side. Jarter was closer to it than I am. If I try to get there I might be successful in that but the chances of opening the door before he gets hold of me is equal to Arsenal's chances of reaching top four. "Ahgrarhahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!! " Jarter's voice roared again and within a split of seconds he was charging at me with the sole aim of ramming me against the wall but thank goodness for my quick reflexes, I was able to get out of the way by an inch of him and he couldn't help but ram his own head into the wall and there was a loud cracking sound that dominated the room from that collision. I turned around as swift as I could and used all my strength to further pushed him into the hole his head had created inside the wall. He was groaning and whimpering in pain with every effort I applied on his body. Traces of blood could be seen escaping from his neckline down to the floor. With every force I applied on his body, he was always trying to kick my groin with his back heels but I was smart enough to avoid all his attempts. "Argh!!!!! " I cried out loud as I continue to shove his muscular body into the growing hole. I made sure half his body was well stuffed into the hole before I let him be. There's no way he's going to get out of that hole without an external help. I quickly dragged the middle table to the base of his buttocks to further prevent him from maneuvering his way out. Even if he did get out, he will be too weak to pick up any fight, judging by the amount of blood he has lost already to the woods. "Ah! " I heaved a deep sigh of relief as I turned around to meet Lovelyn but to my utter surprise she was no where to be seen. I became instantly at alert. I turned around again towards the door and found it a bit open. That means someone has left the room. I got out instantly out of the room with the purpose of getting her. I'd barely spent a minute outside when I started hearing the sound of a typical running shoe heels from a distance above the cellar. Furiously, I doubled my speed and went after her. I was almost out of the steps that linked the underground to the surface when I caught a sharp glimpse of Lovelyn's Ankara attire at the last step. I thriced my steps and was able to grab her by the arm barely before she could stamp her foot on the surface of the bridge where Capable is most likely to be waiting for us. "Lemme goooo! " She shouted and at the same time trying desperately to wriggle free of my firm grip. "No... No... " I said as I was still fighting to catch my breath. "you have a lot to answer for... ". I pinned her by the chest against the side railings of the steps. "You are hurting me.... ". She cried out in a muffled tone. I still didn't let her go. With arms and elbows placed on her neck and chest, I pinned her the more. "Darous.... I'm cho.... Cho.... Choking.... " I quickly released her after hearing that when I saw the visible veins forming on her forehead. I may be desperate but I'm not a murderer. She gasped for breathe and dropped tiredly to the floor of the step. I swallowed the lump in my mouth and wiped the sweats on my forehead. "Lovelyn,...... ". I called at her while she bent her head on her knees. "You are very very.... ". I was still saying when I heard a very low sound coming from the surface of the bridge. I peeped my eyes with strained ears to check what's going on but I was too late to notice the presence of the guy called Capable that was pointing his gun to my face. "Yeeeeeeeeeeyeeeeyeeeyeeeee, you are so dead...... " He pouted his lips at me. I watched with increasing tension as he slowly raised his left hand to cork the gun. Seeing that as an ample opportunity to act, in the blink of an eye, I quickly charged towards him and I was able to force him to the ground, but before he could land on the floor, there was a sound of gunshot that was quickly followed by a loud anguish scream from the lips of no one else but the only lady within the area. I turned my eyes around sharply and was very stupefied with what I saw. Lovelyn was still on her feet but she was holding her stomach that was bleeding profusely. Her dark eyes were momentarily locked with mine before she let her hands fall off her stomach and then her body contacted the floor with a heavy force after which she rolled down the steps. "Nooooooooooooooo!!!! ". I cried out painfully and quickly got on my feet. My eyes colided with the gun on the floor before the eyes of Capable. He was still lying on the floor without moving. He had on a regrettable look that depicts everything remourseful. I picked the gun and sighed before pointing it at the motionless Capable. I was so deadly determined to pull the trigger and blow off his ugly looking skull. I looked down the steps again to look at the lifeless body of Lovelyn. The pain of her death strike my brain again in multiple unbearable folds and click.... I pulled the trigger at Capable's face but nothing came out of the gun. I clicked again and again but still the same result. I looked down at Capable and was shocked to see him smiling. "The last bullet was meant for you.... Dummy... " He grinned wickedly and begin to laugh out loud hysterically. I was left distraught at what was happening within the moment. I never expected things to get ugly like this. Tongue extent that someone has to die. Counting from the prison, three people have died now and all deaths are strongly linked to me. Evidently, Trouble is my Botanical name. "what? Iyawo mi? " (meaning 'my wife?') That voice came from the base of the steps where Lovelyn's body was lying. I turned around towards there and I saw Jarter looking straight at me. His eyes shone widely when he saw the gun in my hand. "Ahaaaarghhhhhhhh!!!!!!" He snarled very loud on top of his voice. His blood covered face made him appear like a wounded lion even though he appeared very weak and that was when I knew I had to run. Without dropping the gun and even still in my white garment, I took to my heels and started running towards the direction in which the car was parked. In no time, I got there quickly and was very happy to found it unlocked. I glanced back and saw that no one was following me. Jarter wasn't visible yet and Capable was still lying motionlessly on the floor. I got inside the driver seat and quickly switched on the ignition. The car produced a low sound before roaring to life. "You will pay for this!!! " That Jarter's voice came from behind me. I didn't even bother to look back before turning the car around towards the opposite direction. I checked the dashboard and my eyes colided with the time. It was 03:26Am. Perfect time to pay someone a visit. T. B. C Follow on Twitter @ Darous_emmanuel. Fb@ Darousmart library. Like the page. WhatsApp on +2348162128141. |
CONTINUATION......... I know what to do. I know they can't kill me, not until they have the money in their accounts, and to do that, they need me to login into my account. That's never gonna happen. All I need is to escape from here and look for another way to get my money from the bank. I will go and get my child from Joke and after then, I will leave the country. All I need to do is to first fight my way out of this place. "Darous what do you say? The sun will soon be out and we can't take the risk of getting caught here... Will you deal with us?" Lovelyn stated again with an impatient tone. "Yes, I'll deal with you messilessly... You think I'm a fool abi? Make I transfer all my money to you so that you can run away after killing me abi? You and your husband are very crazy. Your brains are on a parrallel line with common sense and they can never meet... " With the level of anger boiling inside of me, I almost say all that but I just maintained my cool and decided to play it cool. I summoned courage again and looked directly into the face of the two greedy souls in the room. "Yes! I'll deal with you.." I finally said. Lovelyn's face shone brightly with a giant smile after I said that. The man behind her also laughed out loud to show his excitement but only to be caught off guard by my next words. "Yes... I'll deal with you but not until I'm sure of my safety..." I dropped that as fast and mean as I could. There faces were very fast to change from an excited one to a horrific one. "What!" Jarter lamented and quickly followed was a loud hiss from Lovelyn herself. "Wait... Wait... Darous, are you saying you don't trust me?" Lovelyn blurted out. "Trust? Funny... Trust has never had anything to do with our relationship back then. How do you expect me to trust you when the man you hired to get me out of prison already have plans to kill you both once I transfer the money to you? " I dropped that with the aim of getting them against each other. Lovelyn's face was quick to find Jarter's as both were too shocked to hear what I just said. "if you think I'm lying, then can you explain the reason why he killed two of his own men when they were trying to stop him from doing so?" They looked at each other again and I quickly rose to my feet. "Oro radarada wo lo n so lenu? ". Jarter said in the local dialect that instantly brought the Don Movies back to the table. "What nonsense are you talking about?" Jarter blurted out again as he started approaching me. "I'm not saying nonsense Mr Jarter, I can not trust anyone in this kind of situation.... That man Capable is capable of killing all of us and we both know it. " I reiterated furtherly. My intention was to get both of them confused till they will have no choice than to call Capable to come inside. Since he appears to be the only one with gun in the room, all I need to do to take charge of the situation is to get the gun from Capable once he enters. I know people like Jarter, they don't seem to reason well in situations of impending betrayals like this. I was doing all these with the hope that I'm not wrong about him, or else, I might embrace my doom within the hour. "I heard him quite well when he was telling some guys on the phone that he will pay them the balance of their last mission tomorrow. Or why do you think we arrived late? He was busy planning for..... " "Will you shut the fvck up? " Lovelyn blurted out. "I think I know what you are trying to do here... " "I'm trying to save us all Lovelyn... I've nothing to gain by lying to you.... You have already proven to me that you can help me by getting me out of prison and offering me a brilliant strategy to be a free man... So what would I gain from lying to you? If you can't see that what I'm doing is for our collective sakes then your brain should be grinded with maize and be used for poultry feeds." "Darous... " Lovelyn called at me with a mean look that nearly made my heart jump out of its ribcage. She appears to remain unyielding with my claims. " You think I don't know what you are trying to achieve here? You want to.... " "Lovelyn, trust me here. You have to trust me. I know what I'm talking about. That guy Capable is planning for us. He has plans.... " "How do you know of his plans? Tell me if you want me to believe you... ". Jarter said with a less convincing look. I turned my attention to him. I gulped down the heavy saliva that just formed inside my mouth. Seriously, I never planned for this part. I wasn't expecting him to ask me this kind of question. I've underestimated him and I'm going to pay for it. "You see, you don't even know what to say... ". Lovelyn jeered. Jarter bit his lips angrily at me. He gritted his teeth. "You this bloody fool... " He roared ferociously. "No one lies against my men and live thereafter. I am going to teach you a lesson you will never forget." I saw his mean face and instantly knew my time on earth is about to end. "Dear calm down.. I think that's what he wants. But remember we need him to log in to his account... After then you can do whatever you want with him... ". Lovelyn advised. " hey woman, leave me alone. If he's not going do it willingly, I will make him do it forcefully by myself. .. I'm going to teach this idiot a lesson. No one dares to blackmail the mighty Jarter." I quickly pushed the white plastic chair I was previously sitting on to one side so that I can be free. Jarter started approaching me with rapid steps. His fist was clenched tight and his teeth were equally gritted. I started looking for possible ways to escape. I don't know if I can take on this muscular man with my boxing experience. The slap he gave me earlier is still doing a jingle in my head. |
4.THE DOG ATTENDANT [T. D. A] by Darous Emmanuel. The first thing my eyes settled upon inside the untidy room was two people. They were both sitting comfortably on two white plastic chairs that wasn't too far from each other. One was a man and the other was a woman. The face of the man represents everything called thuggery. Battered nose and a disfigured right cheeks. The lamp that was placed on one side of the table made sure I saw that quite well even in my semi-panick state. He had on a colored sleeveless vest and a black hat. The face of the woman beside him wasn't clear at the time as the light coming from the lamp didn't shone directly in her direction. Maybe that wasn't part of the deal the lamp signed with the person that switched it on or perhaps, it was merely following the instructions from its switchingnitor.. The whole room was smelling of cigarette and alcohol, hence the presence of two bottles of Sea King on the table that was situated in the middle of the room. "Ki lo de ti e fi pe bayi?" The man sitting on the plastic chair voiced out in the local dialect with a thick and marijuana-sponsored tone. Literally means "what took you so long?" He paused briefly and continued in the same local dialect but let me just contact Don movies for the subtitles. Using the subtitle application from Don movies, here we go then. The man continued in the subtitled version courtesy of Don movies. "We've been expecting you since thirty minutes ago. Capable," He called out and settled his confused gaze on the man behind me. "what happen? why is the news of this mission on the radio? You told me that this operation will not create any problem. Why is it now on the news?" The man behind me stepped forward a little and gave the man a thuggery greeting sign. "Ah, baba Jarter, no vex, ah beg," The guy called Capable stated with hands raised. "I'm not angry but you can't blame me for getting worried. I told you that I don't want to have anything to do with the police anymore... Eh? Do you know how much of naira I'm spending on this thing? Are we even safe here at all?" "Baba, nothing dey happen baba, this place safe die... Trust m, na my Abete be this baba " Capable replied enthusiastically. " By the way where is Coupon and Surebet?" Jarter asked. "Baba nla, na why we tey be that. Coupon mess up inside the prison. He don make way baba nla. Na spanner lost be hin case. Surebet don complete hin own level and Audley Samson don go meet hin boss for office. But no yawa baba mi, everything still set." Jarter was briefly silent with an expressionless face. Surely, he was not happy. "How will you complete the mission na? " Jarter asked with an index finger pointed at me. His tone indidcated that he's worried. Capable took some steps forward and got behind the man. He started whispering to the man's ear as the man's face remained fixed on me. "Who are these people?' I asked myself during the little time Capable was spending with Jarter. 'What do they want from me? Are they going to kill me? Chai' I panicked a little as that thought crossed my mind. Then I started surveying the whole room with frantic eyes, looking for possible means of escape in case the situation gets to a life threatening stage. I noticed that the planks used in building the place appeared to be very weak as the cracks on them are visible enough for scrutiny eyes to see. I also tried to see the face of the woman but it appears as if she was purposely hiding herself from me. Like she doesn't want me to see her and that little thought got me wondering who she could be. I had little time to ponder on that before Capable's voice cut across the room again. "Baba nla, no problem insha Allah." Capable said and returned to my side. "I go do am" "Ok... No lele, shey the coast is clear sha?" Jarter asked in a pidgin language that instantly terminates the contract of Don movie. "Crystal baba nla...." Scorpion replied with a voice of enthusiasm. "I'm Capable baba.... Ehn gbe fun." "Ok... that level dey that corner" Jarter said with a finger pointed at the back of the door. "Take it and wait for us on the bridge. We go join you soon." He instructed. "But baba, bridge ke? What of this guy, how will you handle him? ". Capable voiced out his concern. Jarter seized me up with a scrutiny look. "If he's anything my wife says he his, then I think he should be smart enough not to cause any problem or else he will be very sorry. You can go sha... " Jarter said finally and shortly after, the door produced a closing squeaking sound that signals the exit of Capable. I was now left in the hands of the remaining two people in the room. "sit down na, why you stand like pikin wey never do him home work? ..." Jarter said to me calmly and pointed a white chair that was beside the wall to me. I gave him a narrowed and furrowed gaze before I obeyed him reluctantly. "Guy, my name na Jarter, the number one Shredman of every part of Ikorodu.... If you no sabi me, you no sabi anything, after MC Oluomo for Oshodi, na me be the next in rank for Ikorodu. Na me get that empire from there go reach Ajegunle to Agege to Ojodu to Mushin to Lekki to Gbagada to ....... " " To hell with you Mr Jarter... Tell me why you brought me here! " I suddenly blurted out as I was feeling angry at everything he has been saying. But unfortunately, that proved to be a costly mistake as the next thing I saw was him plunging forward quickly towards me and like a flash, a heavy slap had landed on my cheeks. "No one talks when Jarter dey talk! " He roared loudly and his voice could be felt across the whole room. I was visibly frightened as I grabbed my cheeks. "You dey craaaaaaaze for head? Pimples dey inside your brain ni abi stretch marks dey disturb your medulla oblangata?" He stressed vehemently at my face. I rubbed my cheeks intermittently while my angry gaze remained locked on his oblong face. The anger to retaliate logged into my mind after I'd gotten over the shock but the mere thought of him having a gun made me to quickly reconnect with my Calm Control Switch. C. C. S. "Eh Jarter dear, Calm down please.. don't scare him too much na...." The woman beside him intervened and she placed her hands on his chest and started rubbing it. She did that for some seconds and the anger in Jarter begin to subside. Then she stood up slowly and started approaching me. She got to my front and I raised my gaze to meet her face and it was then that I received another shock after seeing her face more clearly, courtesy of the collision with the table by Jarter and that was what changed the direction of the lamp on it. I was astonishingly distraught when my eyes settled on the face of someone I never thought I would ever see again in my life. Standing comfortably with a graceful grin was Lovelyn, the cousin of Adedoyin. * Wondering who is Lovelyn ? Okay, Let's refresh our memories about the woman called Lovelyn. Lovelyn was the first woman I had sex with when I began this story. She was the woman that followed her boyfriend to the viewing center on the day I first met with Adejoke and her sister. Remember she followed me to my house after the pandemonium at the viewing center. We had sex together then and the following day, she told me she was traveling back to Osun state where her parents lived, but only to meet her days later at Adedoyin's house after the latter had came to bail me out of the police station and had taken me to her house based on safety precautions. Remember Adedoyin introduced her to me back then as her cousin. Also, remember Adedoyin nearly caught us together in the house when we were at the kitchen and since then, I never set my eyes upon her, but of course until today when I'm seeing her again.* **Back from Memory lane* She appeared very modest compared to the way she appeared years ago at the viewing center. She smiled casually and placed her hands on my shoulder. More beautiful I should say, as the colored Ankara attire she wore gracefully embraced all the embodiments of her body. "Hi Darous, long time no see...." She said to me with another dimple-lated grin. "Lo......lo.... Lovelyn?" I stuttered out in total shock as she appears to be the last person I expected to see there. "Darous, good to see you again..." "What are you doing here?" I queried curiously and got to my feet. "Calm down, eh, tiger calm down." She stated calmly. " We are here to help you and that's why we broke you out." She stated as calmly as she could but it took me more than ten seconds to successfully digest the meaning of what she said. And when I did, I gave her a squinted look. "We? Who are the We?" "Me and my husband..." She said pointing to Jarter. Jarter was just looking at us without talking. He dragged the bottle on the table closer to himself and pour himself another drink while I stared on in confusion. "Wait.... Wait, don't run me mad please... Let me breath small,...." "Okay... " she said and shifted back a little. "If I get you well now, the reason why you broke me out of prison was solely because you want to help me?" "Do you want your freedom back? " She asked again and narrowed her eyes on my face. "or you want to spend the rest of your life rotting away inside the prison? And let your wife continue to use my Aunty's money and yours to enjoy her own life? " She stressed. Pain could be felt in the last part of her words. "What kind of question is that? You know my answer to that already. " I answered sharply. "Then if that's the case you won't have any problem with the proposal I brought for you... That's the main reason why I broke you out." "Abeg, tell him Wetin we want make him do for us and stop these nonsense sweet talk.... " Jarter blurted out in a hardened tone that indicates his impatience. "Darous, listen, you really need to be smart here.... sit down first... .." Lovelyn said and stared into my eyes. I took in a deep breath and calmed down my nerves and quickly engaged my mind in a short thinking trip. I sat down after thinking it through. No need to get angry now. At least I should first hear what she wants to say, then I can decide on what to do. They can't outsmart me when I'm playing it cool. That's for sure. Based on my past ordeals, they can only hurt me when I'm angry. "Okay... " I finally said. "Let's hear it." She grinned and quickly adjusted the length of her gown and sat on the table in the middle. That way she blocked my eyes access to view Jarter's countenance. "You married my Aunty and she died. I heard she willed all her properties to you even though I don't know how that can be possible but that's not why we are here. " she paused to take a breath as I maintained my cool. "I was outside the country since 5years ago, I was studying Banking and Finance in Canada all thanks to my husband here. That was why I wasn't aware of my sister's death until last year when I came back into the country. I heard everything about you and her and since then I've been looking for you. " "Now that you've found me, what are you going to do?" I asked eagerly. "We understand that all your properties now belongs to your wife, but again, that's not why I'm here.." She paused to pick something from the black bag beside the table. "This is why I'm here. " She said after she had brought out a big folder and a tiny device from the bag. she opened the folder and brought out a white paper "I don't know if you remember or not, but I'm sure you do. You still have an active account with Diamond Bank...shey you remember? ". She paused to study my face as her last words sank into my confused mind. I couldn't believe what I'm hearing from her. Truly I have an account with Diamond bank. The money inside that account is nothing less than 2.7billion naira. I got the money from the sale of Adedoyin's shares with METCON groups. A very popular rubber industries from the U. K. I'd kept it there for like 2 and a half years now with the aim of making use of it one day. That money is part of the main reasons why I've decided to embrace life again. It was part of the reasons why I decided to face my trials with open mind with the hope of getting back on my feet once I regain my freedom. That money is also my only missile to get revenge on my ex-wife and her sister including that backbitting Lewis. Since the day I remembered that money, I've kept it as a secret. There's no way anyone could know about it since the police have accidentally damaged my phone during the arrest. And now, all of a sudden, out of no where, this Lovelyn from no where is telling me about it? Chai, heaven go weep today. 'Wait, shey dem use am swear for me ni? Na woman dey always supervise my temptations.. Wetin I do to deserve all this Feminexamination?' "That look on your face, I take it that you remember? " Lovelyn's voice cuts into my thoughts. Her question caught me unaware. I couldn't quite come up with the proper way to handle situation at that moment. But one thing I know is that I need to handle this with a careful and cautious mind else I risk loosing everything. First to my wife and now to these End-time couples. "Lovelyn, how did you know of this? " I asked in a relatively cool voice that perfectly hides my anxiety. "I was just about to tell you that. Presently, I work with Diamond bank. And in a few days time, Access bank is waiting to take over the ownership of our bank. So as a senior staff of the bank, there's literally nothing that goes behind my back in the bank. I came across your name just last week in our archives and since then I've been looking for ways to help you out. Because its only a matter of time before the bank contacts you to notify you if you still want to continue banking with us or you will withdraw your money. And we both know who's going to get that notification once they do... And mind you, with all the vital documents in her hands, she has unrestricted access to everything that belongs to you. All she needs to do to get your money is just to show interest in it... Chikena... And voila, your money is gone... I know you don't want that... " Again, her words formed heavy meanings in my mind. I raised my gaze to the ceiling and closed my eyes. I wonder why my life is so full of unexpected twists and turns. I don't know what wrong I really did to deserve all these Nollywooded scenes that are taking turns in my existence. Even inside the hideous confines of the prison, fate and other bit**ching agents are still using touchlights to look for me... Na wa ooo. Suddenly, right there inside that wooden room, the idea of depression and despair started approaching me, they got to my door steps with their younger sibling called suicide. I was about to invite them inside but the words of my Therapist that says "Whenever you are thinking of giving up, remember why you started" shut them out. And in that instance I knew I had to continue the fight. I knew its not yet time to give up. I'll rather let my ex-wife have access to my money rather than this greedy couple. Who even asked them to help me out? Its not as if I told them to help me. Certainly, they surely have an hidden agenda. A very dubious one at that. But thank Gawd for the lessons this life has taught me. They are going to regret ever toying with the son of thunder. I summoned up courage as I prepared to talk. "So now, what are your plans for me since you are my Godsent." I asked to their surprise. They flashed each other a wide look before Lovelyn spoke. "I always knew you are really smart." She remarked with a placid smile. I grinned at her and settled my mind once again to hear what she wants to say. "The thing is, it will be very difficult for you to have direct access to your account right now, not because you are awaiting trial, but because its next to impossible for you to appear at the bank in daylight to lay claims for your money. " "So what do we do now? At least to prevent my wife from getting her hands on it." I played along. She was silent for a minute or thereabout before she spoke. "There's only one way" "Which is? " I asked with attentive ears. " It will definitely sound somehow to you but beleive me its the only option you have.... If you transfer the funds to my account, that way you can have access to it because I can easily withdraw it for you... . And that's why I have here with me a phone that has the Diamond Bank app installed on it. All you need to do is to log in with your online I. D and password. Then you can do the transfer. " 'Am I a fool?' I couldn't help but ask myself that rhetorical question after she stopped talking. ' wait does my face look like a foolish one?' "You just have to trust me on this. Your money is more safer with me than your ex-wife and we both know it..." The woman said with a tone of confidence. I looked at her with a dead pan eye but she went on anyways. "You see, my husband and I spent a lot of money to get you out of that place. Apart from the 15million we've spent so far, there are still more to be spend if we are to make this mission a truly successful one. For example, once you agree to do this, we can fly you out of the country, get you a new identity with your own money and you can start afresh. You just have to trust me on this. Darous, I know you, you are smart and we both know this is the best chance for you to get out of that bloody prison... " She sighed and placed her hands at akimbo. "Hmmmm" I cleared my throat after a brief while of silence. The man called Jarter was no longer drinking, his attention was now 101percent focused on me. Obviously, he was expecting me to make my decision quickly. I smiled briefly and leaned forward on the chair. "So now, I have to choose between the deep blue sea which is you and the devil my ex-wife?" "If that's how you see it, well no problem then, but know that it was this blue sea that you swimmed out of that prison... So if I were you, I will not hesitate to deal with the deep blue sea" Truly, the devil is a woman. See how convinienlty this woman had perfected the art of Dupe. Someone by the name of Debbie, a friend of mine once said, "Humans are creatures of habit with an insatiable need to see familiarity in other peoples actions. Your predictability gives them a sense of control. So to win them, you can only do one thing..... BE DELIBERATELY UNPREDICTABLE". I smiled wickedly as those words flashed through my mind. This Lovelyn thinks I'm really a fool. Its time I prove her wrong. Although I don't know what's at stake for me here, but all the same I need to take a giant leap. How can you expect me to do such a thing? Transfer all my hope to your account with a vague hope that you don't betray me? Noooo... I can't take that anymore. I am done with people taking my innocent face for a sign of weakness. |
Got to complete the typing today famz... Its a free day after all.... Stay tuned....... I write........ |

3. THE DOG ATTENDANT. [T. D. A}] The car started moving very fast on the rough road and so was the tension in my body. All my life, I’ve never witnessed such before. The only time I’ve seen such a graphic scene was in the movies and those were plain acting. Not something very real and glaring as what just happened few moments ago. Someone that helped me out in my escape task, that gave me a new chance for my vengeance mission, shot dead by the man sitting beside me? I feel so bad. Really bad about the whole thing. How can you just bring out a gun and kill someone in cold blood like that? These guys are wicked. In fact they are wickeder than the police I was running from and certainly much more wickedest than the devil. ‘Who are these people by the way’ I asked myself that question with a side glance at the man beside me. He was the one that shot the warder that led me to him. His face was very mean and deadly. Fair in complexion but his actions are dark and unremorseful. I wanted to ask him some questions but the fear of getting killed made me keep my mouth shut. Without using weapon, I should be able to handle him very well with my boxing techniques but the pistol in his hand will make sure I don’t get close to him to deliver any punch. But still there are a lot of questions that needs answers. My past experience in situations like this should be enough to teach me something. If not anything, at least to be cautious of every happenings around me. However, these scenarios are pregnant with questions that can only be delivered by this mean looking man. But evidently as he appeared, he’s not ready to enter the delivery room. I placed my left fingers on the terrace of my nose. Yes, I mean the space between the nose and mouth. You know it right? That place that has a gutter-like feature in the middle? Got it right? OK… let’s continue. I placed my fingers there and while stroking the gutter-like features, I engaged my brain in deep thinking. ‘Who is the woman on the phone? Her voice doesn’t sound familiar at all. How did she know my name? How did the phone got to that bush? How did she know that I was there at that time? Or did she know that I was going to be there and had planned it before hand? If so then how did she know exactly when to call? Argh, this is really frustrating. …… ‘ I sighed high to release a frustrated breath. I clutched my head inside my palms and rested my elbow on my raised laps to give way for easy thinking. ‘The man that broke me out from the cell, who is he? How did he know my name also? He said something that really baffles me, he said he knows me very well. He also said he has eaten with me and dined with me several times.’ He said he knows how I think…’ How can that be possible? All these thought provoking statements by him can only be uttered by a friend but judging from his height, accent and stature, I don’t think I’ve seen him before not to talk of being friends with him. Perhaps he’d said all that to get my attention. Maybe that’s it. It has to be. I don’t know him, its as simple as that. “Hmmmmmm” I released another breath and gave the man beside me another cursory glance. He wasn’t paying me any attention as his gaze was focused intently at the side of the glass window of the car. It’s bad that the man that broke me out from the cell is not here right now to explain by himself. He must have been shot inside that shiithole. Ah! This is serious, two people are dead already because of me and I don’t even know their names talk less of knowing them? Ahh! Darous, your life is really programmed to be mired in trouble all the time. Not even prison can stop troubles from paying you its homage. Na wa for you o.’ I communed to myself and a sorry grin took over the surface of my face. The journey continued for some minutes and the silence lingered on for like thirty minutes before my mind suddenly snapped when my mind could no longer bear the nagging curiosity that has been disturbing it. ‘Wait, I don’t think this guy can hurt me if I ask him what’s bothering me. No way he would hurt me after going through all the impossibilities of breaking me out. Its illogical for him to hurt or kill me. Na question I wan ask no be fight. Patapata, he go say he no fit answer me. Person no dey die twice jare. I be son of thunder for a reason. ‘Courage mode activated' I told myself and did the sign of cross three times to further bolster my gradually increasing courage. “Erm… Who are you people?” I asked in a very low tone that seemed as if the words were struggling to escape from my lips. The guy beside me did not quite turn all the way to me but looked askance at me with his dark and fiery eyes. ‘Maybe he didn’t hear me’ I told myself after he had returned his attention towards the window. I released another breath and got myself ready to ask again. “I said who are you people?” “You’ll know soon.” He replied very sharply without casting me another look. “Huh-huh….” I stammered. “What else?” He asked sharply with fury in his eyes. “Erm, why did you kill that man?” I managed to pour that out. “Because he has completed his task..” He answered again with lesser enthusiasm. “What? That’s absurd… When did death became the reward for a job done?” I blurted out with a confused tone. “Hey! That’s enough…. You can’t understand.” He stated firmly with what I perceived to be a stern voice but I wasn’t ready to bow out just yet. “Hey, whether you like it or not, I’m already involved in this, and I demand to know everything because its…… “ “Silence!” He declared angrily. I could feel his hot breath on my left hand that was closer to him. Evidently, he was very angry. “Where do you think you are? Who do you think you are talking to? Thank your stars that my client doesn’t permit me to rough handle you, you would have been sorry we….” The ringing of a phone interrupted his vexative mood. “Is that your phone? Cosmos?” He was directing his question to the driver who was all the while silent on what was going on in the car. “Yes… My boss is calling me… Let me park and pick it.” The driver said and he swerved the car to the parking side of the dusty road. “Hello sir” The driver spoke to the phone and was silent for some minutes before speaking again. “I’m erm..at home sir………………….” He was silent again. “Whaaaaaaat!... How did that happen” Silence again. “geeeeeeeze….” Silence again. “ok................ Ok sir….. I will be there shortly sir……. Ok sir…… Right away…… I will inform other stations to be on alert sir……… Ok sir.” Call ends. “What did he say?” The man beside me queried curiously. The driver placed the phone on the dashboard of the car and turned his neck backwards to face us before speaking. “My boss says I should come to the office right now. He was telling me what happened at the prison we just broke this guy out from.” “Are you sure he’s unaware of your involvement in this?” The man beside me asked with a skeptical tone. “No..no..no” The driver nodded his head negatively. “He will not be telling me to handle the investigation myself if he knew…. I know my boss.” He squeezed his lips together before returning his attention to the steering wheel. “They are still trying to find out who the prisoner is and that’s a big plus for us… They will do a head count tomorrow for sure…. But what are we going to do now? I need to get to my boss immediately before he starts getting suspicious.” The driver stated without turning his head to us. I was silently attentive to the whole thing happening right inside the car. But I was surprised to find out that the driver was a police officer. A high ranking one for that matter. But what got me very confused was how the people behind my escape managed to pull all this stunts together. What exactly do they want from me? Nooo… To hell with that my vengeance talk. This is far more than that. Who could be behind all these? To the extent that a senior police officer and a commanding warder was involved in this?’ “Time for plan B” The voice of the man beside me cut into my thoughtful mind. “Drop us at the second base and you can take the other car to the office. I will take this guy to my clients myself.” He concluded and rested his back on the backrest of the car. The driver obliged instantly and returned the car to the road. Moments of silence followed until the car came to a halt in front of a small bungalow after spending more than fifteen minutes on the road. A blue Chevrolet was parked at the rear side of the house. The driver quickly got out of the car and the man beside me joined him at the other end. The doors were locked immediately both men stepped out of it. They both engaged in some silent discussions for a few minutes before the man beside me returned to the car, except this time, he didn’t return to my side, he got into the driver’s seat and settled down into it. He locked all the doors before giving me a white celestial garment. “What for?” I queried with a narrowed gaze at his dark eyes. “Quickly put it on. We need to hide your identity, this your prison cloth will attract people to us.” He stated quickly and waved at the other man that just drove out in the blue Chevrolet. I starred at the garment for a brief while before deciding to put it on. The man displayed a satisfactory grin after I’d finished wearing the oversized white garment. “Listen to me very carefully Darous, its only a matter of time before we get to the meeting point. If you really want to stay alive you need to be at full cooperation with me.” He uttered in a tone that depicts more warning than advise. “But how do you expect me to cooperate with you when I really don’t know what’s going on. Who are you people? And who is the client you are talking about? Why all these risks just to get me out of prison? And please cut that crap about my vengeance mission and all sorts. I need explanation… A detailed one for that matter.” I ended in an evidently frustrated tone before scratching my beards-covered neck. “I understand you perfectly. I will also feel the same way if I were in your…..” He was still saying when the vibration of his phone interrupted him. He picked the call and spoke with the caller for a few minutes before returning the phone to his brest pocket. “Where we are going is just twenty minutes away. That’s where all your questions will be answered. I’m not entitled to answer any question from you. Are we clear?” He asked with a stressed tone. I wanted to probe further but I just decided to play it cool. At least, its only a matter of minutes. All these are just complicated pointers to the mystery of the situation which is waiting to be solve within the hour. Patience is a great virtue. The atmosphere was very windy and gloomingly gloomy. Every actions of the weather signals the herald of what appears to be a teary night. The cold temperature emanating from the river below further sends a torrent of tension to my already nervous body. The bridge was dark and silent. The long bridge was totally devoid of human activities. Evidently, it was the darkest hour of the night. The moon that was shinning earlier has now allowed itself to be covered by the cloudy blanket. Maybe it was also scared of what’s to come and it has decided to seek shelter behind the cloud. There I was, sitting nervously at the back of a strange car with a stranger, in a strange hour of the night and about to meet someone I believed to be a stranger. This time last night, I was already snoring my life away on top the cold floor of the Oba prison. A place I’ve already come to terms with to start calling my new home. I was still awaiting trial, and my next court sitting was only months away but apparently, in a matter of hours, I will be declared a wanted man. Death, taxes and Darous getting into trouble even when he never expects it are three surest things of life. Life holds very few certainties for any of us, but seeing the son of thunder taking a starring role in dangerous situations like this is about as close to a given as it gets. Gradually, the speed of the car starts to reduce on the long and silent bridge. After covering some kilometers on the bridge, the man driving the car stopped it when it got to the extreme end of the bridge where the railings end. He pulled out of the car and opened the backside where I was sitting nervously. He pointed his gun to my face and fear instantly struck my heart after seeing the deadly look on his face. I started panicking and shaking vigorously. I was scared he’s going to kill me and dump my body into the river. Someone must have paid him to do so. Someone that thinks my existence still poses a threat to him. Someone that’s interested in having what I left behind. Someone that loves what I love. Someone that is a genius at planning things like this. Someone that has the financial capacity to pull all these strings just to end my life to get what he wants. Maybe someone that wants Adejoke, my ex-wife. Maybe someone in the name of Lewis. Jide had told me last week when he came to see me inside the prison that Lewis and Adejoke are now very close. He said hardly will a day go by without Lewis going to Joke's house. I’d ward off the information because I believe Adejoke can never stoop so low to the extent of having an affair with a fool like Lewis. Maybe I was wrong. Maybe Lewis isn’t a fool after all. Maybe I was the real fool for thinking such things can never happen. Maybe I’m about to pay for that with my life. “Get out!” The man shouted with a very mean tone. I was startled and scared to the bone. “pl… please….. Pleas…. Don’t… don’t….. Don’t….kill me…. I beg you in the name of your mother…. Pleaaaaaaseeeeeee…..” I pleaded with trembling voice. The fear of dying without setting my eyes on my child again sent my knees to the floor in that awkward instance. “Quiet!” He roared at me and dragged me up with the garment I was putting on. He used the heel of his left boot to close the car door and positioned himself at my back while I face the north of the bridge. My whole body was tensively covered in cold sweats. I surrendered my hands in the air and before I could even think of kneeling down, the man behind me pushed me forward. “move slowly and gently… if you try to run, I will shoot you down.” He warned declaratively. I started moving gently and every step I took portrayed the level of apprehension in me. He guided me to one dark corner of the bridge where a concrete step was situated. A step that leads to the underground. The man behind me used the mouth of his gun to push me forward from the back as a sign that he wants me to follow the step. I shook my head pitifully and closed my eyes when the awful reality of what’s about to happen dawned on my apprehensive mind. “This is where it all ends… at least, death will bring me the peace I never had in life….” I muttered to myself in total feeling of despair. I made a quick silent wish. A wish that I never come to this world again. I finished the step and so was my unfriendly escort. We rounded another dark corner where a wooden hut was situated. The door was slightly opened and the man behind me told me to stop. He got to my side while his gun was still pointed at my fear-stricken face and checked his phone. Then he suddenly pushed me ferociously against the wooden door making my head to bang against it in the process. The door opened with a loud squeak after the pressure that was applied on it. I staggered inside and fell face flat on the muddy floor. I quickly got myself up as my eyes were trying to adjust to the darkness in the room. Suddenly, a light from a lamp illuminated the room and my eyes were once again very fast to settle on the UNEXPECTED. T. B. C. Twitter@darous_Emmanuel. Instagram@darousmart.
