Family › Re: Being A Woman In Nigeria Is Hard Says A Nigerian Man On Facebook by theDEVILisHERE: 8:44am On Nov 10, 2015 |
tyconcepts: This piece should interest you coming from a man
Some times, being a woman in Nigeria is quite a task. You are subjected to absurd societal norms, by men…. and other women. Many times, men, even those that ‘love and care about’ their women can’t see these absurdities as what they are. Onuora Ikechukwu Onianwa see these absurdities, and he has written a Facebook note about them. His note his getting plenty likes from women, and some men.
Onuora Ikechukwu Onianwa’s note :
I want to make a general, sweeping statement. I know it will sound unfair and rude, and I’m sorry. I truly mean no insult. It is just me expressing my view on a long list of issues.
So, here we go…
Sometimes I am grateful to God I am not a woman...
* I can’t have an education or it will make me lord it over my man, and tempt me to be the head of the home.
* I can’t have a job because I will become proud and un-submissive.
* I can’t have a job that pays more than my husband’s because it is an insult to his manhood and he will be emasculated. One day I will even use it to rubbish him outside.
* I can’t be single at 25, and unmarried at 30, or without a single child at 35. It means I am cursed, have a spirit husband or have a bad character and no man wants to be with me.
* Any achievement of mine is a waste and useless if I have no boyfriend or husband, and it will only make me more arrogant and unattractive to men.
* Heaven forbid I own a car or a house for the same aforementioned reasons. The only place I can live till I marry, is my parent’s home.
* Only loose women stay in hotels. If my job requires I travel, I must stay with older people, friends or an elderly couple who can talk to me about this my job that won’t allow me settle in one place and marry.
* Expensive things are not allowed. I can’t marry quick with them.
* I can’t speak about anything under the sun without a ring on my finger and babies who have suckled my breasts.
* If my boyfriend/husband cheats on me, I must endure it and manage. All men are the same. There are no good ones around any more.
* Whatever my husband says (even common pangolo boyfriend that doesn’t know his left from right) I must agree. The moment we got together, I lost my sense of reasoning and purpose in life. his word, even if foolish, is law and I must die to please him and obey.
* How dare I expect my husband to hire a maid or ask anyone asides me to clean? What did he marry me for?
* My husband, cook and clean? Am I mad? Is that not witchcraft?
* Why should he take care of the kids while I sleep, travel or go out? Is he my mate or my servant? Am I a fool?
* Oh, so I don’t know I must cook fresh soup everyday? I must be an idiot.
* So, I don’t know I must wear make-up , heels and sexy dresses or be naked all day? Do I want him to go out and cheat?
* The home falls apart because I’m a useless and stupid woman.
* The marriage ends because I am a useless and stupid woman.
* My husband cheats on me and beats me because I am a useless and stupid woman.
* The children grow up horrible because I am a useless and stupid woman.
* I am a useless and stupid woman…because I am a useless and stupid woman.
Its bad enough men think this way. To see women do it too, and fight men like me who have been carrying women’s rights on our head like we are the next Malcolm X, Luther or Madiba, is shocking and sad. Maybe one day things will get better. I pray it does, because anyone who says the aforementioned trash to my baby girl(s) will hear from me, and they won’t forget me in a hurry. Sometimes I am grateful to God I am not a woman. I might have killed someone by now…
PS : Coming from a man, this shocked me walahi
lalasticlala, ishilove.....Please let's hear what the general public thinks. Being a Man in Nigeria Is many times more harder Women should stop complaining Cause if they're allowed to be a man in Nigeria for just a day Many will probably collapse |

samsilo: At the moment I feel very sad for Nigeria in general and Ibos in particular . Rather than join hands and achieve the potentials of this country with immense human and materiel resources , some people are busy displaying massive amounts of hate and prejudiced behavior towards each other . I thought initially the spats between the 'Yeebos " , 'Yolobas' , ' name checkers' etc was funny . unfortunately it is quickly descending into something that is causing me to think seriously of the exit of my close family when a Syria situation starts in that country. From my experience while growing up in Calabar and Uyo (my parents come from both states ) I have to advice my Ibo brothers that it would take all adults in those 2 states who lived through the Civil war to either die out , become senile or become deaf before their descendants would join in something called Biafra . You always speak of the war crimes at Asaba , go to Eket and Oron areas and ask them what the Biafran army did there before running away . Go and ask what the Biafran army did to people before retreating where rather than accept that they were outgunned , they killed people for causing their defeat as 'Saboteurs'. Ask people in those areas to tell you about how boastful and deceitful the Biafran propaganda machine ( convincing people with sticks and mactetes to go against the Nigerian Army in Enugu sector of the war was before you waste your youth and future generations .
Conflict brings no good . A word is enough for the wise Biafra is here Biafra is now Stop decieving yourself with those stories youwrote up there Nothing can stop the movement |

What you and I think or know is irrelevant Biafra's restoration is imminent And it'll happen very soon Anyone who can't see this Is obviously living in delusion |
Politics › Re: With These Agitations, I Fear The Worst For The Igbo People... By Citizen Nick by theDEVILisHERE: 9:38pm On Nov 08, 2015 |
nickxtra: With these incessant historical calls and campaigns for secession by the so called Biafrians, started and championed by the late Ojukwu, albeit unsuccessfully and the activated agitations by MASSOB and lately IPOB, will the Igbo man or woman be ever entrusted with power as the President of Nigeria? I think it will be suicidal for Nigeria as nation to allow an Igbo man presidency unless they give the other stakeholders in the Nigerian project all the benefits of the doubt that once enthrusted with that 'powerful' position, they will not find a fertile ground to balkanize the country, as they have over the years be hungry for. As the campaigns increase within and outside the country, majority of the Igbo elites are seen to have either kept mute, perhaps in solidarity with their kins, or they are afraid of what may befall them back home if they speak against the agitations publicly. But I believe, if the Igbo race must have the moral and soothing ground to aspire into presidency which should rightly be their turn in no distant future(based on rotation), the best these elites should do now is to put their house in order through their apex body Ohaneze Indigbo, World Igbo Congress or through which ever medium to tackle these dangerous trend, otherwise, they are accomplice to the cause which these youths champion. The earlier they dissociate the Igbo nation from these agitations, the better for them, because I fear the worst for them as regard entrusting power in their hands as the presidency is concerned. That's my candid constructive view(an advice in disguise to the Igbo race). You have got to either agree or disagree it, but it is the truth. People are talking of how to destroy the British created slave camp called "Nigga Area" You are here talking of presidency Do some of you reason atall |

ZUBY77: Asking such questions online will end up to nothing. It is one reason I belive we will have a physical group that occasionally educate the youths of the need to be the ones to chart their futures since the custodians has failed us since independence. And they can't seem to let go of power. If not, I see no reasons why people such as Audu Ogbe even Buhari should still be in active politics by now. Educating the youths is not the solution The solution is doing and promoting the right thing always and living by example Youths get inspired and learn by the example of their role models The more role models you have that reason and act right The more youths will follow suite |

Politics › Re: My Experience In Sotheast- My Project Tour To Southeast. by theDEVILisHERE: 11:51am On Nov 07, 2015 |
OBAFEMIawolowo: I was opprotuned to visit all southeast states on a project work sponsored by an international organization in the U.S. I had to visit several big hospitals in the region like UNTH, NAUTH, FMC owerri, ABSUTH, FMC abakaliki. The work has to do with the prevalence of PUD in southeast and it lasted for 10weeks. This is my first time of going to southeast and I was eager to know what ile Igbo looks like.
On getting to Niger bridge from Asaba airport, I met a 10lanes road in Onitsha which serve as gateway to southeast, the road was well marked and wide ( I was like "welcome to southeast" , then i was immediately taken to my hotel at fegge area of Onitsha (top rank hotel).
Onitsha Onitsha is quite a formidable commercial city, but I can't live in onitsha. The city is tick, dusty and congested, most of their roads are dusty with no walkways. Onitsha has heavy buildings but tiny roads, aside the expressway, I don't think any other thing fascinated me about onitsha. I remember visiting on Chinese restaurant at awka road though. I can remember also visiting oguta road, modebe, zik road, port Harcourt road eetc onitsha needs a total overhaul but i won't deny seeing heavy buildings. I spent two weeks in onitsah then we moved to owerri.
Owerri I lodged at rapour hotel along orlu road in owerri. Owerri is a very lively city but lot of abandoned projects scatter all over the city. I remember seeing two abandoned flyover projects and it doesn't seem it was abandoned recently. Nice houses, night live is also encouraging. I remember spending time with fine owerri girls, they have beautiful girls. I was disappointed in okoroacha, owerri roads are not well marked, most street lights are not working. But owerri is quite more inhabitable than onitsha. Spent two weeks in owerri then moved to aba.
Aba Didn't really spent much time moving around here, roads are quite bad here but I saw some construction work going on. i remember our car falling into a big pothole ( I had to role my shirt to push it ooo). The city is also very noisy. I moved to Enugu after one week.
Enugu I lodges ate fildema hotel at independence layout. Bros, make I no lie, this city get government presence ooo. Didn't really see heavy building like in owerri, aba and onitsha but the city is organized with well planned road networks, street lights and well marked roads. Didn't enjoy enugu well because water is a problem, I also noticed their soil is a strange stony red soil. Enugu is quite better than others. I spent two weeks here then moved to abakaliki.
Abakaliki I even forget the hotel wet I lodge sef, but it was along Enugu road or so. Abakaliki is quite the least of all ot these cities but i remember still seeig wider roads than i saw in aba and onitsha. Abakaliki is quite laidbacked with similar soil like that of Enugu.
I moved to back to enugu to spend extra one week, visited several clubs and lounges in enugu. Fine residential buildings, I remember eating opa with coke along oguiyi road. Stella odua messed up in that Enugu airport ooo, chairs for there don dey soil finish, but well sha, i will love to visit Enugu and owerri again.
I enjoyed southeast ooo, please lets stop the tribal rivalry here and tolerate each other, I even caught some sweet igbo chicks in owerri and Enugu mmeaning, I will still have to go back there. As for me, Nigeria is the same, I felt at home in these places.
I don't mind settling down with omo ibo sha I don't see the point in this your writeup Meanwhile All hail

Of course That is why IPOB is peacefully protesting The Nigerian police/security forces lead by the Nigerian leadership are the ones provocating, shooting and killing peacefully agitators and protesters A reasonable proper thinking and functional government will have rather call a round table meeting where they and the peaceful agitators will sit down, resolve and trashout the issues with reasonable debates and exchange of ideas But of course they can't do this Why? Because they are people who cannot reason properly When a country is lead by people who cannot reason properly Such a country is heading for doom Most of you will not understand the implications of this constant action by the leadership of the country till mayhem is finally unleashed By then It will be too late Don't say you where not warned |

ZUBY77: Good day the blessed youths of Nigeria. My name is Samson, known online as Zuby77. I am from Enugu State, that makes me a full citizen of Nigeria. Despite the agitation of some of my brothers from the South East, i still believe that we can salvage this country without violence. We can only achieve that by coming together and forming a formidable group that will be heard from across the world. This group will be open to any youth that has the interest of Nigeria at heart. I have read Omojuwa, Adesamni and others fighting individual wars criticizing the government of the day for doing this or not doing that. I respect them for that. However, the truth remains that the people they are critising does not know the mechanisms of modern day leadership. It is left for us to update them on what obtains today. There are things you might think your father knows, but the truth is that he doesn't know it.
A typical example was the day i visited the State CID Awka to bail a relative who was invited by the Police but detained. It started when i configured a newly acquired Android phone purchased by the station Captain. He was amazed at how easy i operated the phone that he couldn't help but asked where i learnt how to do that. I told him i learnt it in Germany and i seized that opportunity to lecture him on how Police operates in developed Countries. He listened to me for over an hour while i lectured this gentleman on what he doesn't know about Police work. At the end of the day, he was so impressed that he didn't ask for bail out money from me. He gave me his phone number and asked that i can always come to his office for chats. After that day, it dawned on me that there are basic things we know more than our old politicians, Police officers, teachers, Army officers and even Pastors. This people sent us to schools so that we could be their eyes when they start getting old. Unfortunately, our politicians and their system are old already but they still hold on to it because we are not teaching them enough. We are not being the light they wanted us to be. I see it as being ignorant if we think that they can just hand over the system to us without knowing the direction we will follow.
Let us not bring in APC or PDP propaganda into this, we can all agree that they are the same, they just changed party names. Let us not bring in Geo Zones into this. Let us see the politicians as what they are; the same. We must not allow our country to die because someone from another tribe is the president or Vice President.
It is on this ground that i appeal to our Youths here on nairaland to come together and start a peaceful group that will contribute ideas that can convince our old politicians that we are capable of moving this nation forward. If we sit down and complain or criticize them from now until the next 20 years, things will only remain the same. This is not a movement or political party. If we will adopt one political party eventually, we all have to agree to it first. We will map out how we will start, write our manifesto and everything that will help this country move forward. We will have plans to implement every policy we think can move Nigeria forward. I personally believe that if this country gets it right, the cry for secession will die naturally. You can indicate your interest by posting a reply on this thread. When we eventually have a group outside this forum, we will add you. We will need people to create and handle Twitter and Facebook accounts for us. We will assign that heaven responsibility to someone when we have stability.
Thank You. What kind of help can you give to people who are theives, drug barrons, pedophiles, criminals, terrorists and killers |
