Visa Approved at Lagos Consulate.

Interview was pretty short and here goes:

Me & VO at the same time: Hi, Good morning.
VO: Pass me your I-20 and passport. (Sevis receipt was there too)

VO: So where are you going?
Me: I’m going to the University of Iowa for my PhD in ***

VO: Oh really? Tell me about your course.
Me: Honestly I lost focus here and started talking plenty. Lool. He even cut me short. Chai.

VO: How do you intend to pay for your studies?
Me: I have a full tuition scholarship and monthly stipend. (I actually have a small deficit ($487) but I was advised to wait till I’m asked before volunteering the usual “and the deficit will be paid for by my mum” information)
He never asked and I didn’t say a word though I had bank statement with me.

VO: (Looks at his screen; I guess my DS160 is where he got the info from) Oh you’re a Dentist?
Me: Yes, please.

VO: How long have you been a dentist?
Me: Mentioned.

VO: So what have you done since then?
Me: I have since completed my internship (Housejob) and one year Nysc.

*Types for what felt like eternity. Hovers his hand over the green paper on his table and I’m like OH HELL NOOOOO. Then his hand lands on the white paper. LOL.

VO: I intend to issue your visa.. be ready in one week... bla bla. I wasn’t even listening again at this point lol.

Special thanks to everyone on this platform. The least I could do is come back and post my transcript. I skipped course details on purpose but I’m happy to give my full details to anyone who needs. I had actually been denied before (B1/B2) so I was a bit worried about that but it all worked out well.
Word of advice: Look the VO right in the eye and speak your truth!
Pray too, He listens.
Cheers, guys.

P. S: Can we still travel with electronic I-20?

Good morning guys. Please I need help with suggestions for a hotel I can stay in close to the US embassy in Lagos. Thank you
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by thedsl:
Hi everyone. Please can anyone recommend a hotel close to the embassy where one can stay and go from there to an early morning appointment at the embassy?
Thank you.

Please can anyone help with this? Thank you
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by thedsl: 5:19pm On Nov 10, 2020
It was Lagos.
No I didn’t cancel the previous one, I clicked on ‘reschedule’. I’m not sure if I was supposed to have cancelled first but I figured rescheduling automatically cancels the previous one.

Also, there’s a ‘(66)’ written beside the time for my appointment. Does that mean I’m the 66th person to be interviewed that day? Somebody please explain. Thank you

When was that? No 2020 date available. It's still April 2021
Wow, I’m surprised to see this. That was literally just about an hour ago. I just picked the date right before I posted here.
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by thedsl: 3:57pm On Nov 10, 2020
Guys! I posted about being denied an emergency request this morning. I just randomly said let me try and log into my CGI profile and lo and behold, December 18 was available. I’ve scheduled.

If you were denied, hurry and schedule too!
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by thedsl: 8:23am On Nov 10, 2020
Hi guys. I picked the April date and requested emergency appointment. Uploaded my I-20 and Sevis fee receipt but wasn’t within the 60 days they stated. They denied me the emergency appointment and I’m wondering if it’s the time factor that’s the reason.

For those who were denied too, what’s the way forward? Do I send an email and are they likely to respond? Or we just keep checking for available dates so we can reschedule?

Hi guys

I just got this mail from Lagos NIV => URGENT - CONFIRM YOUR NONIMMIGRANT VISA APPOINTMENT

My appointment date is Nov13

Who else got this mail?
Please dis you apply for an emergency appointment before they sent you this?
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by thedsl: 12:30pm On Nov 05, 2020
Hi guys. The April 5th date for Lagos is still there and I booked it, but I can see that the emergency request is for people starting their program within 60 days and mine is like 74 days from now. (18th January). Does that mean I’m not fit to apply for the emergency appointment?

Should I try or just wait till 18th November to request an emergency appointment? Please help. Thank you
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by thedsl: 7:58am On Nov 01, 2020
Hi Guys. Please has anyone been able to get a date in Lagos for interview? Last I checked, there were no dates available. Can one send an email for emergency appointment?

Second question please: On The CGI website, it only gives the option of filling first name and last name. Can I put both my first name and middle name on the space for first name?

Thank you.

That's four year and 11 months... Which is more or less five year. I made similar mistake but I mails my sch and it as explained to me. Jan -Dec,2021,2022,2023,2024,2025...look at it this way
Thank you. I’m guessing you eventually filled 5 years?

That's five years na. January 2026 would make it five years. It's just a month short of 5 years.
Yes that was an error o. I’ve corrected that. Thank you

Actually Jan 2021 to Dec 2025 is 5 years not 4 years. So indicate 5 years.

Hi guys. My I-20 shows program start and end dates to be January 2021 to December 2025 (PhD). That’s roughly 4 years. On my DS-160, can I fill in ‘4 years’ as my intended length of stay in US please?
Thank you

Don’t explain Jack! Just put “214B reason” on the column where they ask for explanation. No need to shalaye anything. Just being curious, how exactly do you know you were refused based on “no strong ties” as you mentioned? Cos the US embassy I know doesn’t tell you reason for refusal you can only make inferences.

However, your B1 refusal has nothing to do with your F1 application. Just make sure you state it there that you were once refused. Ofcus they have that info in your record.

Well, I was refused a B1 visa some years back but today I have my F1. All glory to God. This shall be your testimony. All the best!
Amen! Thank you! If I may ask, please what’s 214B reason?
TravelRe: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by thedsl: 5:54am On Oct 29, 2020
Hi everyone. I have been refused a US Visa before (Tourist Visa).
On the part of the form where they asked if I’ve been refused before, please how much information should I give there? In the ‘explain’ part.

The reason for refusal was inability to demonstrate strong ties.

If I go into all of these details and explain everything, will it jeopardize my chances of getting the F1 visa this time around?

Thank you

Aderin0la:
1. Intended date of arrival- yes, you should pick any date within the earliest date of arrival stated on your I-20, and your program start date. And no, you mustn’t book your flight on that exact day. But you can’t arrive in the US earlier than 30 days to your program start date.

2. If you haven’t made specific travel plans (e.g gotten your flight ticket, booked an hotel, etc), simply answer No.

3. Address where you’ll be staying - unless you’ll be staying with a relative or you already have an apartment waiting for you, please enter your school address.

4. For social media usernames, you can just fill in 1 or 2. I’ll advice LinkedIn and Instagram/Facebook.

5. If you’re currently not employed, you do not need to lie. State it that you’re unemployed. In the field for previous work experience, even if you’ve never been employed, you can enter your Nysc work experience or some volunteer work you did. When the VO asks what you’ve been doing since graduation, you’ll simply tell him/her what you’ve spent your time on.

6. No. The colored printout/copy of that document would suffice.
Thank you so much !

Please Help.

Hi guys. Please I need some help answering questions on my DS 160 form.

Here are my questions:

For intended date of arrival, do I pick any date within my earliest date of arrival and my program start date? And is it a must that I book my flight to that day eventually?

‘Have you made specific travel plans’. What do they mean? I’m thinking ‘no’ because I haven’t planned for flights or anything.

‘Address where I’ll be staying’ - can I just write my school’s address?

Those who have filled the form, did you actually fill out all your social media usernames in the part where they asked for social media presence?

Also, if I choose ‘not employed’ in the form, will that be a problem during the interview and will I have explanations to do?

Lastly, please am I supposed to ask my school to send the original copy of my GA offer letter or a colored printout will do?

I know the questions are many but I’ll appreciate answers to anyone of them. Thank you.

Hi everyone.

Please I need clarification on something and I’ll appreciate if someone can help.

My school emailed my I-20 and asked me to print it in colored to show their signature in blue and I should also sign in blue.

I emailed them to ask if I can go ahead and pay the shipping fee so they can send the original (as I’ll still need original at the port of entry) but they said the one they sent should serve for both visa and traveling, that they are not mailing any I-20s.

Please does anyone have this issue or know about this? Can that document serve for both visa and travel?.

Thank you.
