He is always in the wrong party.

I can not fault any state government's attempt to promote the native language.

The difference here is that in Lagos state, the native language is presently being "demoted" and portrayed as irrelevant just to "accomodate" the shortcomings of a GRV who is evidently disconnected from the culture and traditions of the state he wants to govern.

That's why I mentioned Spy360 et al

Sorry I am just seeing this.

I am not saying any specific tribe is tribalistic or not tribalistIf. That is a different debate.

I was just addressing that particular notion that it’s the ubiquity of a tribe that demonstrates that they are liberal.
That is the wrong. Whatever tribe or group it is, it is the hospitality of that group in welcoming strangers to their home that shows that they are liberal.
Do we assume a tribe is welcoming simply because they have strangers in their land?

Can you say South Africa is welcoming to black migrants, or Nigerians specifically?

And is adaptability a form of liberalism?

Now, na Doherty dey there

I agree, minus Obi wave, minus Yoruba votes, would be a scandalous loss.

Funsho Doherty will do more than 658, hopefully his fans focus on the party/candidate with the bulk of votes.

Funsho Doherty polled 658 votes last time around, focus on serious candidiates so they poll better.

GRV has already lost the votes of the majority population of the state, Funsho's competition now is Hamzat, target those votes.

He should first do the crash course.

His target audience still involves the market women with old trays, selling sweets and bitterkola at Tinubu square. Will he speak English to them?

I don't know if he would win or not.

But if you were embarrassed because you couldn't speak Yoruba in 2023, and 3 years later, you still don't see the need to block that loophole, then you're not serious.

GRV is not serious about contesting..

He knows
I know

You are the one that said 65% of Lagos are Yorubas. These large number have told you they prefer a candidate who can converse in their language

Why not learn it?

Him refusing to learn it outright disrespect to them.

What's more funny to me is that the language was an issue for him in 2023. I would expect such a person to have invested his time to learn it and come out strong in 2027

But see him labalaba-ing himself again

That guy is not serious. It's you people that think he is serious
His learning or not won't move the needle for those who have their minds made up about him, want to test it?

Consider any of the Yoruba's not supporting GRV on this board, mention one person you think would change their mind about him simply because he did a crash course in Yoruba.

GRV not speaking Yoruba fluently has less to do about him as a person or his opinion of Yoruba culture and more to do about how he was brought up.

I've met a number of born and bred indigenous Lagosians that don't speak Yoruba, especially those that came from homes where dad is Yoruba and mum from another tribe.

If GRV loses or not, it won't be simply because he didn't speak Yoruba...the Bola Tinubu political machinery has been winning elections since 1999 and it's a machinery that has crushed bonafide Lagosians that speak Yoruba...allow GCRV run his campaign how he wants, he won't be the first person to lose.

This energy is best expended selling Funsho Doherty or any other person you're backing.

In the BBC report you mentioned, the brothers are traditionally wrong. As long as the woman is alive she has 100% access to her father's wealth. If she marries, she begins to answer her husband's name. But as long as she isn't or divorced she has access.

The only thing she cannot do is to sell the property and offcourse she cannot will it to anyone.
If a law has this level of problematic interpretation, then maybe the law has ceased to serve whatever purpose they created it for.

There's nothing you've said that prevents abuse of the law, or exclusion of females from property they're entitled to, and women wey no get power or OT to sue go accept this bullying as culture.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 11:07am On Oct 05
Funsho Doherty would need lean heavily into his campaign.

He's the most solid candidate of the three IMO, but I won't begrudge people that would rally around some other competent candidate that's running the superior campaign...hence GRV.

At the end of the day, we want the candidate that can win.

Whether Funsho Doherty will run a winnable campaign is left to be seen.

You lost an election in 2023, and part of the feedback is that you couldn't speak Yoruba.

3 years later, he's back and still cannot speak Yoruba. How is this person a serious person?
We can't criticize politicians for engaging in corn eating type gimmicks because of elections yet demand another candidate learn a language simply for gimmickery.

I heard he's improved in his Yoruba, but I'd rather he had spent that time polishing whatever ideas he had around governance.

38 chinese administrators loaned from the CCP with their English translators by their side, deployed in governorship and the presidential positions would do a better job than what we have today.

This your Gas ẹh, it ain't gonna light ó. LOL! Go speak non-hausa language at campaigns in the North and cruise to victory flawlessly.
People are free to speak whatever language they want to campaign with, wetin go end am na loss, or victory as in the case of Donald Duke.

The universal language of administering states in Nigeria is English, and anybody that speaks English would do just fine.

GRV speaks English, sufficient Yoruba and sufficient Igbo (the two most widely spoken local dialects in Lagos)...if ability to converse in local dialects was the only criteria, he's arguably the most qualified.

I haven't said he won't be Governor.

I am simply telling you that it is Yorubas that are reminding him to go back to Ekiti. The matter has been taken to court.

The Liberalism that the SW has and shows(which nobody can take away from them) is only in Lagos.

After Lagos, everybody must answer him papa name
The Gbayi of Abuja, are they also liberal?

Ireti Kingigbe is mix of Yoruba/Fulani/Hausa/Delta, yet she occupies their highest elective position.

I won't take it away from the Yorubas being liberal. If Onitsha was like Lagos and have non-indigenes occupying positions, we would also say Igbos are liberal.

But it is only Lagos that these things are easily possible.
Lagos has a Yoruba population around 65%...some would argue less.

Anambra/Onitsha should be at least 90% Igbo dominated.

Two different scenarios.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 12:41am On Oct 05
Different people with the different ways they define liberalism.

Some have their liberalism stop once you bring pork or beer to their vicinity.

Some have their liberalism stop once you don't have slots for locals in your private company.

Some have their liberalism stop once you try renting a house with a name that's not of their tribe or from particular tribes.

Some have their liberalism stop when you contest for election in their state.

And on and on it goes...

I've personally seen enough to call propaganda on one tribe being liberal, at least significantly more than others... especially any of the so called big three tribes.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Theflint1(m): 12:33am On Oct 05
Cosmopolitan cities will operate as cosmopolitan cities world over.

London
New York
Paris
Brussels

These are cities cosmopolitan enough to have blacks and people of other races hold and run the cities.

These cities are liberal because they're cosmopolitan, and not necessarily because the people there have a genetic predisposition to being liberal grin

We should celebrate because the city that's our most cosmopolitan is "accommodating" citizens of the country tongue

Maybe we can also say the Gbayi people of Abuja are liberal because Ireti Kingigbe is occupies their highest elective position, or Aisha Yesufu from Edo State can run for senate there.

I call propaganda!

Using a councillor to make this decision holds little water.

If a ward is dominated by non indigenes, the councillor can easily be a non indigene. A ward dominated by Igbos in Ondo state will easily have an Igbo councillor

Let us see Ondo state give commissioners to an Ebira man, or give HOA tickets or Senate tickets to another tribe.

It's only Lagos you see these things easily.
How come this liberalism doesn't go beyond Lagos?

Anybody telling you that you need to speak the local language to administer any of the states in Nigeria is serving you chilled bobo, whether it's Uche P. Okoye, or anybody for that matter.

And winning elections is not quite same thing as governing well, we're not lacking in politicians that can or are winning elections.

38 administrators speaking only Mandarin with English translators by their side will deliver better governance than what we're being served in Nigeria by our indigenous language speaking governors and president.

Governor Adeleke's mother is Igbo.

Seyi Makinde's wife is Kalabari.

What liberalism are u actually looking for in the southwest?
Nigerians have always married between themselves, and children of mixed parentage have risen to become governors of states their father was from.

I can't say this is exclusive to any tribe, so no that doesn't count as liberalism.

The yorubas are the most liberal tribe in Nigeria. Anybody accusing them of tribalism is deceiving his or herself.

The kind of opportunities non-indigenes get in the SW, especially Lagos, you cannot get such opportunities in any other zone in the country as a non-indigene.

If the yorubas are beginning to get more tribalistic now, I believe they're simply learning from the rest of the country.
Let us all practice the liberalism in every state/zone, or let us do the tribalism together. No need to gaslight anybody.

I'm not Yoruba. I don't support APC or Tinubu. I'm just stating my observation.
Lagos is a melting pot of tribes and cultures and has been since time immemorial.

I don't see this liberalism in SW states that are not Lagos.

Nigerians, especially the big three tribes are clannish.
