Nigerian Businessman, Ezeoma Chigozie Obioha will be getting life imprisonment after killing a lady he owed a thousand dollars.

The tragedy started with a crush and a business deal with Mr Obioha having a crush on his victim, named Carrie Melvin, 30, who had done social media work for his business in 2015.

But she turned him down and eventually notified state officials that he owed her more than $1,000 for work she had done to promote his company, prosecutors said.

Weeks later, Carrie was killed by a man who fired a shotgun blast at her face as she walked with her boyfriend to a Thai restaurant in Hollywood.

A shotgun on the beach and a bounced check are key clues to the murder, prosecutor says.

The morning after the killing, a boy playing on the beach in Malibu found Obioha’s Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun under a rock.

Lying nearby was an unusual shotgun shell, identical to an expended shell found at the crime scene: a white Rio Royal Grand 12-gauge, 00 buck shell with the head stamp “globalshot.com,” prosecutors said.

On Monday, Obioha, who was convicted last year of first-degree murder, sat showing no emotion.

Jurors deliberated about a day before convicting Obioha and finding true the special-circumstance allegation that he committed the murder for financial gain.

However, Obioha’s defense attorneys had argued that the shotgun shells, as well as the gun, were planted.

They also claimed that a blast from a Rio Royal shell would have caused more wounds to the victim’s face, they argued.

In phone calls from jail, Obioha gave his family different explanations about what happened to his gun.

First, he said that it had been stolen. Then, that Melvin’s boyfriend had taken it to set him up.

Lastly, he said it had been planted by an ocean photographer who wanted his Instagram and Facebook accounts featured on the news, the prosecutor said.

In court, the victim’s father said that after sitting through the trial and hearing the evidence, he’s convinced that Obioha was the person who killed his daughter. He urged Obioha to accept the sentence.

Anti-Muslim crimes in the British capital have increased fivefold since the London Bridge terror attack, Mayor Sadiq Khan said Wednesday, warning that police would take a “zero-tolerance approach”.

“Provisional statistics for 6 June show a 40 percent increase in racist incidents, compared to the daily average this year, and a fivefold increase in the number of Islamophobic incidents,” the mayor’s office said in a statement.

It said 54 racist incidents were recorded on Tuesday, compared to a daily average of 38 so far in 2017.

Twenty of them were anti-Muslim incidents, well above the 2017 daily average of 3.5.

“This is the highest daily level of Islamophobic incidents in 2017 to date,” the statement said, adding it was higher than levels reached after the November 2015 attacks in Paris, in which 130 people were killed.

On his Facebook page, Khan called on Londoners “to pull together, and send a clear message around the world that our city will never be divided by these hideous individuals who seek to harm us and destroy our way of life”.

He also warned that “just as the police will do everything possible to root out extremism from our city, so we will take a zero-tolerance approach to hate crime”.

London’s Metropolitan Police said it had made 25 arrests for hate crime offences since Saturday, when eight people were killed by three Islamist extremists in the city centre.

Officers had also been in touch with places of worship “to encourage them to report hate crimes and to reassure those who congregate there that the police will take these crimes seriously”, said Dave Stringer, head of the force’s community engagement unit.

He said police were seeing year-on-year increases in all areas of hate crime, in part due to a greater willingness of victims to come forward despite overall such crimes being under-reported.

“However, we also know world events can also contribute to a rise in hate crime,” Stringer said.

Multiple award-winning Nigerian singer, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, better known by his stage name Wizkid, has been featured among the cast for a Black Entertainment Television (BET) commercial.

The tv commercial which features the Nigerian Music star and ‘Come Closer’ crooner as himself, was been hounded by a fan when his true identity was discovered and was forced to take a selfie with the fan before he left the building.

The commercial also had its flip side to it, as the last minutes of the video clip showed wizkid supposedly fluffing his lines on camera, indicating that the clip was probably not the finished product.

This is good sign that the Musical icon’s popularity is growing in leaps and bounds with the international audience and this comes almost a month after he had won four awards at the 2017 BET awards.

The islamic community in Indiana has stated its displeasure at the erection of an anti-Muslim billboard disparaging the prophet Mohammed, US Today reports.

“It is a horrible billboard. I’m outraged by it, but saddened at the same time … and I would like to know who is behind it,” said Rima Shahid, executive director of the Muslim Alliance of Indiana.

“It seems very cowardly to me. If you have some kind of stance, you should want to stand up next to your statement. I didn’t think there was any room for hate in our city. This billboard tells me otherwise.

“This kind of rhetoric just furthers division in our state and makes a neighbor question a neighbor, just like I am today.”

Shahid said the billboard, which she saw on southbound Interstate 465, was brought to her attention Friday by an anonymous tipster.

The all black billboard has a headline of “The Perfect Man.” Underneath are six bullet points to describe that man. These points include “married a 6-year-old,” “slave owner & dealer” and “13 wives, 11 at one time.”

At the bottom of the billboard in yellow sits the words “Educate Truthophobes.” A search of Truthophobes online leads to multiple anti-Muslim groups, specifically an Australian group with similar messaging.

U.S. Rep. Andre Carson, D-Indianapolis, said he believes the billboard is untrue and that the billboard’s author takes Islamic text and history out of context “just like al-Qaeda, ISIS and the Klan do to religious texts to justify their bigotry.”

Carson said he is disappointed that people have decided to use their free speech protections as a platform “to spread hateful, vile things that are divisive to people.”

“I think there’s a way to debate and be socratic without being disrespectful or undermining people and causing a sense of isolation.”

Carson called on people in the faith community to “come together and say this is unacceptable,” especially in light of an upcoming “March Against Sharia,” that is scheduled to occur in 28 American cities, including Chicago, Indianapolis, New York and San Bernardino, California this week.

Faryal Khatri, a spokeswoman for the Indianapolis-based Islamic Society of North America, said not only is the billboard not true, it is hurtful to her as a practicing Muslim.

To Khatri, the most disappointing aspect of the sign is that it could incite hate crimes toward Muslims or people perceived to be Muslim.

The billboard comes at a time when there is increased scrutiny and distrust of Muslims and Islam.

Since 2015, anti-Muslim hate crimes have increased by 78% in the United States, according to researchers at California State University.

In December 2015, on the campaign trail, then-presidential candidate Donald Trump called for a “total and complete ban” on Muslims entering the U.S., to prevent terrorists from entering the country.

Last month, a 35-year-old white supremacist is accused of fatally stabbing two men and injured another who were defending two girls — one of whom was wearing a hijab — on a light rail train in Portland, Oregon.

In court, the suspected attacker, Jeremy Joseph Christian, called the act “patriotism.”

A married man accused of not telling his longtime side chick that he was HIV-positive was charged with murder after the woman died of AIDS.

A judge on Tuesday set bond at $1.5 million for Ronald Murdock, who was indicted last week in the February death of 51-year-old Kimberly Klempner.

Murdock, 51, of Toledo, who also is charged with felonious assault, with the indictment stating that he was aware of his status without disclosing it to his girlfriend.

According to Klempner’s son, Murdock and Klempner were involved in a five-year relationship during which they had unprotected sex.

According to the report from the Ohio state police department, Murdock’s wife discovered that Murdock and Klempner were having an affair and divulged the information on her husband’s status to Klempner.

“By the time she found out and by the time everything was said and done, it was way too late,” said Josh Klempner.

His mother’s death certificate listed the cause of death as AIDS.

“She would have done anything for that man,” Josh Klempner said. “And for him not to come out in the beginning and tell her what was going on was not right.”

Ohio is among a large group of states that have HIV criminal laws, which generally make it a crime to expose others to HIV or fail to disclose HIV-positive status.

A growing number of advocacy groups and health experts have pushed for states to modify or eliminate those laws. Parents of a Cross River State University undergraduate, Joy Odama, who was allegedly murdered by an alhaji in Abuja have cried out for justice after the resident district police officer referred to the perpertrator of the evil act as ‘untouchable.’

The grieving family shared a statement concerning the circumstances surrounding the shocking death of their daughter and the appalling reaction of the police officials stationed in the area to the incident.

My name is Mrs Philomena ODAMA. I am a native of Yala LGA in Cross River State. I am resident at old Karmo village in Abuja.

Joy Odama is my first daughter. She is a 200 level undergraduate of Mass Communications at the Cross River State University; who just returned for Christmas holidays and met her untimely death.

On the 18th Dec, 2016, one Elizabeth from Ogoja LGA, Cross River State who is my daughters friend visited us and told Joy to accompany her to see one Alhaji Usman Adamu who she said was a philanthropist that gives scholarship to young students. She said the Alhaji lives in the same neighborhood, precisely at Ibro Quarters, Old Karmo-Abuja.

Knowing Elizabeth as a long time friend and without any suspicion, she innocently followed her to the said Alhaji’s house. On getting there, my daughter called me that the Alhaji wants to see me.

I asked why and she said that the Alhaji wants to help her with her education with other girls who lives in the neighborhood who are there with their parents. I quickly got to the house and Alhaji Usman ADAMU promised to help in my daughters education and equally promised to get me a job with the Nigerian Security & Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC).

We exchanged numbers, i graciously thanked him and left with my daughter.

Two days later on the 20th December, 2016 in the evening, Alhaji Usman ADAMU called my daughter and said his house help is seriously sick and that she should please come and look after her while he goes to get a doctor.

He also said he has called other girls (i.e the other girls we saw in his house the previous day). Joy told me and i allowed her to go. That was the last time i saw my daughter alive.

After a while on the same day, i called Joy and she said she was at the house with the other girls and will soon be coming back. About an hour later, when she was not yet back, i called severally but she did not pick.

Out of curiosity, i called Alhaji Usman ADAMU on his number 08179606208 but he too did not pick. I became more worried and went to the house but couldn’t gain access to Alhaji’s apartment.

The next morning, i called Joy and Alhaji ADAMU several times to no avail. Eventually, Alhaji ADAMU picked his call and to my surprise, he pretended not to know who i was nor who Joy was. When i pressed further he said ” did anything happen to Joy” as if she does not know where she is. At this point i knew all was not well.

In panic, i called my husband (who was not around at the time due to the nature of his work), my relatives and neighbors and we all agreed to report to the police. As we were about stepping out to the police station, we saw two policemen in our house who asked us to follow them to the police station at Karmo.

On getting there, the DPO informed us that all the girls that went to Alhaji’s house are all unconscious; that one is not responding to treatment while the others are responding.

We requested to see Joy but we were turned down and asked to come back the next day. We pressed further but the DPO insisted we go and come back as directed.

The next day being 22nd December, 2016 i went back to the police station in company of relatives and a lawyer who is a close family friend. To my utter shock, i was told that my daughter was dead and has been taken to the mortuary.

We asked to know how, why and what led to Joy’s death and the DPO, CSP NKEM RAPHAEL declined further comments.

Our lawyer asked if the Alhaji has been arrested but CSP NKEM RAPHAEL bluntly told us that as far he is concerned, Alhaji is not culpable, no crime has been committed, that my daughter died a natural death and he cannot arrest Alhaji Usman ADAMU.

DPO NKEM told the lawyer to take the matter to his superiors but that he has already informed them about the matter and as far as they are concerned, Alhaji ADAMU cannot be arrested. We requested to know the whereabout of my daughters corpse and the other girls responding to treatment so we can interview them.

The DPO directed us to Federal Medical Center, Airport Road Abuja and on getting to the mortuary, we discovered body has already been embalmed. When we asked why my daughters body was embalmed without our knowledge, one of the attendant’s confided in us that Alhaji Usman ADAMU first brought the dead body in the early hours of 21st Dec,2016 claiming to be the father of the girl.

But on seeing the body, they suspected foul play and insisted that they will not admit the body until they see a police or doctor’s report.

Alhaji Usman ADAMU left and came back with DPO NKEM RAPHAEL of Karmo Divisional Police who ordered them to immediately embalm the body.

We also discovered that the other girls the DPO claimed were on admission in the hospital were not there. We went back to the police station to find out why our daughters body would be embalmed without our prior consent. At the police station, i saw Martha, one of the girls whom i met at Alhaji Usman ADAMU’S house.

She was by the police counter and i asked her what happened to Joy and she narrated the following; ”

on the 20th of December, 2016 Alhaji Usman ADAMU called her to come to his house, that he has already called the other girls to help him look after his house help who was very sick. But her elder brother ( Emmanuel, who was also in the police station with her) stopped her from going to Alhaji’s house that day.

But that she sneaked very early in the morning to Alhaji’s house the following day and on getting there she was shocked at what she saw.

She saw my daughter , Joy ODAMA lying lifeless on the floor and the other girls were stooling and vomiting. She became afraid and tried to run out of the house but Alhaji Usman ADAMU and some inside the house held her back and brought her to the police station. When i was about asking her further questions, some police men shouted at her to stop talking and whisked her away.

We went back again to the DPO, CSP NKEM RAPHAEL to ask why my daughter was embalmed without our knowledge and that we heavily suspect foul play and demanded for an explanation and further investigation.

The DPO reiterated his initial position and bluntly told us not to pursue this case further, that he would advise us to dialogue with Alhaji Usman ADAMU for our daughters burial. He insisted he has nothing more to do with us until we agree to meet with Alhaji Usman ADAMU.

On the advise of a family friend, we agreed to meet with Alhaji Usman ADAMU to shed more light on what actually transpired.

On the agreed date of the meeting being 24th Dec., 2016 by 10am, we were at the police station with our lawyer but on sighting the lawyer, the DPO lied that the meeting has been postponed.

When the lawyer asked why, he said that the Alhaji was not around and that his number is not connecting, that he will call the lawyer and inform her of the next date for the meeting.

Immediately the lawyer left, the DPO quickly called us inside his office and we were so surprised to see Alhaji Usman ADAMU sitting right there. The DPO told us to put off our phones and drop it on his desk , that he does not want the meeting to be recorded. In attendance was the DPO, CSP NKEM RAPHAEL, DCO, SP MICHAEL OBIORA, the Inspector Crime and Alhaji Usman ADAMU.

On our side was my husband, myself, relatives and a family friend.

The DPO was the first to speak. He said if we know what is good for us we should agree to whatever the Alhaji will offer us and desist from further pursuing this matter.

Alhaji Usman ADAMU then offered to settle the matter with Three Hundred Thousand Naira(N300,000) and we became infuriated with anger, left home and informed the lawyer what happened.

The lawyer insisted that further investigation be carried out. The DPO again called for a second meeting where we met with AIG Umoru Usman Shehu; AIG Intelligence, Force Headquarters Abuja.

AIG Umoru told us bluntly also that investigation in this matter is closed and cannot be reopened. He said Alhaji Usman ADAMU should add an additional One Hundred Thousand Naira (N100,000) to his initial offer.

He told us harshly that that is the much he can do in this matter and that is his final decision and it is in our best interest to accept the offer. At this point, apparently sensing the threat in his tone, a family friend present called us aside and advised that we collect the money to give them a false believe that we have agreed to their terms while we go home and think of the next line of action, including having it as an exhibit.

As it stands now, it is very visible the blind and audible to the deaf that Alhaji Usman ADAMU has people in high places within the Nigerian Police Force and have connived with them to deny our poor family justice.

So, i am passionately pleading and calling on the government and the general public to come to my aid so that my daughters gruesome death will not be in vain.

Investigations has revealed that my daughter, Joy Odama is not the first girl that Alhaji Usman ADAMU has killed on the pretext of helping them.
I am using this medium to appeal to all to help me seek for justice in the painful death of my daughter.

The only biological son of late boxing legend, Muhammad Ali Jnr., claims he is facing homelessness, a year after his father’s death.

He accuses other family members of allegedly stopping him getting an equal share of the boxing legend’s £62million fortune.

Muhammad Ali Junior, 45, says he has only received three “measly payments” of £2,000 in the last two months and is sleeping on a friend’s floor in Florida, just days away from living on the streets because he can’t afford to pay any rent.

Ali Jnr said an equal slice of the ­inheritance had been agreed at a meeting in California with his seven sisters, adopted brother Asaad, and the will executor – Ali’s fourth wife of 30 years, Lonnie, 59.

But his son told Daily Mirror: “It looks like I’ve just been cut off completely. I don’t have a bank account, so they’ve had to wire money to me. It’s been a rough year. This isn’t what my dad would have wanted.

“He would have wanted me to be OK, have a place to stay, have my money. I’m going to live off water now, as that’s all I can afford. Getting food is hard, as I don’t have a cent to my name. I just find a way somehow to get food each day.”

Wonder Woman is the first solo female superhero film in over a decade, and the first superhero movie period directed by a woman, Patty Jenkins to open this weekend with an estimated $100.5 million at the domestic box office.

According to Buzzfeed.com, Jenkins now officially holds the record for the best domestic box office debut for a female director, surpassing the $85.2 million earned by the opening weekend of Sam Taylor-Wood’s Fifty Shades of Grey in 2015.

Add in $122.5 million in international grosses, and Wonder Woman has already earned more in one weekend than any other female superhero movie has made in its entire theatrical run. In short, it’s crashed through one of Hollywood’s hardest and highest glass ceilings.

Critical reviews have clearly shown that the movie is living up to its hype with multiple reports of audiences breaking into applauses multiple times. The film has been given an ‘A’ for a cinemascore grade, suggesting a long and healthy theatrical life, with fans already tweeting about seeing the movie multiple times.

Predating the Wonder Woman movie, was the absence of a successful female superhero movie, even though characters like Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow and Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique had experienced relative successes in their respective ensemble superhero films.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed looks to have lost his edge against a worthy opponent after he appeared on the latest episode of the Osasu Show where he assessed the President Muhammadu Buhari’s Administration at Two.

The Minister who seemed unprepared for the heavy lifting which came at him during the interview had earlier been questioned on his take regarding Nigerians who have accused him of telling ‘little white lies’ to which he replied that this was mainly because he was the face of the opposition party for nearly a decade.

He added that the second reason why Nigerians have accused him of telling lies to favour the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration is becasue quite a big section of the internet is yet to forgive him for the role he played in ousting PDP from office.

He said: “I think quite a big section of the internet is yet to forgive me for the role I played in the coming of this government. Many of them hold me personally responsible for the defeat of the PDP.”


Lai Mohammed added that “It was Nigerians who wanted a new government,” and he helped.

The Information Minister further dared anyone to come out with facts proving he had indeed lied to Nigerians at any point to favour the Buhari-led administration.

Lai Mohammed in reply noted that there is very little in governance when the economy, corruption, infrastructure and security have been covered. He added that Nigerians need to understand the focus of the Buhari-led administration to understand how much the Buhari-led administration had achieved.

He further noted while speaking on the impact of corruption that about N700 billion was appropriated in the Ministry of Niger Delta between 2990 and 2015 according to a memorandum by the Honorable Minister of the Niger Delta.

According to the Florida State Credit Card Crime Act, anyone who fraudulently uses, or possesses with the intent to fraudulently use, someone else’s personal identifying information and who doesn’t have consent of the owner commits the crime of fraudulent use of personal identification information.

Identifying information includes a person’s name, telephone number, date of birth, mother’s maiden name, driver’s license number, state identification number, or any other piece of information that can identify a person. Anyone committing criminal use of personal identification commits a third-degree felony.

Anyone who uses someone else’s personal identifying information to obtain property or anything of value worth more than $5,000 commits a second-degree felony.

If the identity theft involved the personal identifying information of 10 to 19 individuals, the crime is a second-degree felony.

If the identity theft involved the personal information of 20 or more individuals, or resulted in a pecuniary gain of $50,000 or more, the crime is a first-degree felony.

Dammy Krane was charged with a second degree felony as the identity fraud he allegedly committed involved the details of more than 10, but less than 20 victims.

Individuals convicted of a felony identity theft crime in Florida face anywhere from a year to 40 years or more in prison.

Because Dammy Krane also has an additional 8 other felony charges, it is possible he may face an additional plethora of potential prison time if he is unable to secure a good plea deal. However if the star should plead guilty and the State is willing to consider accepting his plea, he may only face up to 10 years in prison which is in line with the minimum sentencing guidelines for the offences allegedly committed.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed looks to have lost his edge against a worthy opponent after he appeared on the latest episode of the Osasu Show where he assessed the President Muhammadu Buhari’s Administration at Two.

The Minister who seemed unprepared for the heavy lifting which came at him during the interview had earlier been questioned on his take regarding Nigerians who have accused him of telling ‘little white lies’ to which he replied that this was mainly because he was the face of the opposition party for nearly a decade.

He added that the second reason why Nigerians have accused him of telling lies to favour the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration is becasue quite a big section of the internet is yet to forgive him for the role he played in ousting PDP from office.

He said: “I think quite a big section of the internet is yet to forgive me for the role I played in the coming of this government. Many of them hold me personally responsible for the defeat of the PDP.”


Lai Mohammed added that “It was Nigerians who wanted a new government,” and he helped.

The Information Minister further dared anyone to come out with facts proving he had indeed lied to Nigerians at any point to favour the Buhari-led administration.

Further during the interview, the Information Minister was placed on a hot seat as the anchor repeatedly kept uppercutting him with questions.

Osasu during the interview applauded the Buhari-APC led government of making breakthrough in the area of Corruption fighting and war but questioned the Minister on other areas which the Buhari-led government had made tremendous efforts


Lai Mohammed in reply noted that there is very little in governance when the economy, corruption, infrastructure and security have been covered. He added that Nigerians need to understand the focus of the Buhari-led administration to understand how much the Buhari-led administration had achieved.

He further noted while speaking on the impact of corruption that about N700 billion was appropriated in the Ministry of Niger Delta between 2990 and 2015 according to a memorandum by the Honorable Minister of the Niger Delta.

Responding to a question on the redundancy of the power sector and the failure of the Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola in delivering the promised 10,000MW of electricity, Lai Mohammed noted that he does not agree with the verdict of Nigerians about the power industry adding that the Buhari-led administration entered power when Nigerians enjoyed only 2690MW adding that Buhari brought it to 5014MW which was affected by the destruction of pipelines in the Niger Delta region adding that Nigerians enjoy almost 4,000MW now.

The Minister of Information further failed to defend the N10billion which was allocated to IDPs adding that it is the most transparent administration Nigeria has had.

Stand-up comedy superstar and Hollywood A-lister Kevin Hart is willing to crack jokes on just about any topic, except politics.

With the Wonder Woman movie set to hit the silver screens around the world this weekend, everyone will be expected to hit the cinemas to watch our favorite DC heroine, or so we thought.

CNN reports that while everyone will be gearing up to go watch the movie, the movie had already been banned in Lebanon ahead of its release, because the lead actress is of Isreali ancestry.

The film will not be shown in the country following a decision by the Ministry of Economy and Trade, which said in a statement that it has “taken all necessary action” to ban the film starring “the Israeli actress Gal Gadot.”

The theater chain Grand Cinemas confirmed the news to customers: “#WonderWoman has been banned in #Lebanon,” it tweeted.

The reason? Wonder Woman is played by Gadot, an Israeli who served in the country’s defense forces.

This simply takes the feud between the countries to a whole new level.

Based on their history, both countries have been at war for decades with the last major confrontation occuring in 2006, when Israel sent ground troops across the border and launched air strikes after two Israeli soldiers were killed and three were kidnapped. Around 1,000 Lebanese were killed in the violence.

Lebanon also bans purchase of Israeli products and the travel of its citizens into Israel.

In response, a petition titled “Release Wonder Woman in Lebanon” was also circulating on Thursday.

“Gal Gadot may be an Israeli, but we want to watch a movie about the amazing character of Wonder Woman,” it said.

“Wonder Woman” was produced by Warner Bros., which is owned by CNN parent company Time Warner. Warner Bros. did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Thursday.

A Nigerian actress identified as Rabi Ismail has been recaptured by men of the Intelligence Unit of the Nigerian Prisons Service with the support of men of the State Security Service, SSS, six years after she escaped from Hadejia Prison, Jigawa State, on December 16, 2011.

The Hausa actress was said to be a prisoner who was before her escape sentenced to death by haning for culpable homicide by a High Court in Kano on the 5th of January, 2005.

Speaking on the recapture of the actress after six years, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Prisons Service, Francis Enobore disclosed that the court had found the actress guilty of drugging, drowning and killing a male friend, Mr Auwalu Ibrahim, in 2002 to acquire his property in Kano.

The actress was however sentenced to death by hanging in July 2011 by the Supreme Court which upheld the sentence pronounced by the lower courts leading to her incarceration in the Kaduna Central prison from where she was transferred to Hadejia prison in Jigawa State where she escaped from about six years ago.

Enobore while disclosing the arrest further expressed the appreciation of the Controller-General of Prisons, Jaa’faru Ahmed to the DSS and the police for their assistance in recapturing the fugitive.

He further vowed that all escaped prisoners will be recaptured and brought to justice adding that “other escapees still at large will be fished out no matter how long it takes.”

Captain Maxwell Mahama, a Ghanaian military officer with the (5BN) at Burma Camp in Accra was on Monday, May 29th, lynched by residents of Denkyira Boaso of the Central region who mistook him for an armed robber.

It was gathered that the officer who is a commander of a military detachment in the area was jogging along the Denkyira Boaso-Diaso road when he asked some women for direction. He was not in a uniform.

The women reportedly called the Assemblyman who organised the youths of the town to lynch him. They later burnt his body.

Meanwhile, Ghana Armed Forces have commenced investigations into the murder. The incident has sent heightened anxiety within the town after the perpetrators of the heinous crime realised the deceased was a military man on official duty.

The Armed Forces in a statement signed by the Director of Public Relations, Col. Aggrey-Quarshie said a fact-finding team led by the Chief of Army Staff is proceeding to the area to gather more information about the development. –

“A high-powered fact-finding team led by the Chief of the Army Staff is proceeding to the scene of the incident to ascertain the facts of the case.” He said they were collaborating with the police and other security agencies to bring perpetrators to book.

“GAF is working closely with the police and other security agencies to unravel the full facts of the case.” According to the Armed Forces, its “Initial report indicates the officer was lynched by locals of Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region whilst he was jogging at about 08.30 am on Monday 29 May 2017, under circumstances yet to be verified.” –

“The officer was the detachment commander of our troops on operational duties in the general area.”
The Armed Forces have also urged its personnel to remain calm as the due procedure is taken to bring the perpetrators to book.

The immediate past Presiding Chaplain of the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa, Lagos State, who was removed from his post allegedly on the orders of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode breached church protocols and had long-standing disciplinary problems, Premium Times reports.

Reverend Femi Taiwo, who was removed on May 15, was also ordered out of his official quarters within 24 hours of receiving the letter.

Media reports suggested Mr Taiwo’s removal came after his actions during an anointing service on May 14 angered the Lagos State governor’s wife, Bolanle Ambode, who was in attendance.

The reports said Mrs Ambode waited endlessly as she joined a queue to be anointed without any preference accorded her; and that she left the church in anger after been anointed.

However, according to a report provided by the Premium Times, a series of letters, documents and correspondence that the rift between the Chaplain and the First lady of the state had predated the incident that occurred on the 14th of May, 2017.

According to the newspaper, a source within the church told the “The point is that he (Mr Taiwo) disregarded rules to go and meet the First Lady without authorisation, out of selfish interest.”

In late February this year, Mr. Taiwo had paid an ‘authorised visit’ to Mrs. Ambode without the knowledge of the church’s Governing Council; but he allegedly lied to the governor’s wife that he was sent by the Council.

At the meeting, Mr Taiwo, those familiar with the matter said, schooled the First Lady on why he should be the “alpha and omega” on anything spiritual concerning Governor Ambode and his family.

He also reportedly cited the church’s constitution repeatedly to convince the First Lady to always respect his office and powers.

“He told the First Lady that the small church inside the State House should be reporting to him. And that he would withdraw some of the staff if his demands were not granted, almost threatening the First Lady,” one official said.

Mrs Ambode, one of our sources said, was shocked by the clergyman’s attitude, and she promptly contacted the church’s Governing Council to complain.

The Council “was shocked that Mr Taiwo, a supposed man of God, could lie and misrepresent himself to the First Lady, and immediately queried the clergyman, demanding explanation.”

“It came to the notice of the Governing Council of Chapel of Christ the Light that you requested and held a meeting with Her Excellency on 27th February, 2017, claiming that the Governing Council mandated you to do so,” read the query signed by ‘Gbenga Solomon, a Reverend Canon and the Governing Council Chairman.

“Please, note that your action was at your behest and not the Governing Council. We learnt that you went with a copy of the constitution, explaining the content to her.

“Kindly recall that an emergency meeting was summoned on Wednesday, 1st March 2017, where you claimed that you never mentioned to Her Excellency that Governing Council mandated you. In order not to put the Governing Council in disrepute, respond in writing your position on same.”

Following the Council’s query to him, Mr Taiwo promptly apologised via a letter of apology, dated March 10, and addressed to Mrs Ambode stating that the purpose of his visit was not to undermine the First Lady or her office.

Although Mr Taiwo apologised to Mrs Ambode concerning the February 14 incident, he remained consistently hostile and disrespectful of the First Lady, culminating in the May 14 incident that may have quickened his removal, Premium Times reports.

“The truth is that as a continuation of his hostility towards the woman, he was openly disrespectful to the First Lady at the anointing service. Yet, the First Lady waited through it and never left in anger.”

Another source, according to the Premium Times, said the pastor “remained perpetually angry because “another person was made a Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Matters and assumed wrongly that as the chaplain, it was his duty to play such roles and to act as the spiritual father to the First Family.”

“He was consistently pestering the First Lady with a litany of requests and was repeatedly advised by the Governing Council. But he does not appear to have any respect for constituted authorities as advised by the Bible.”

The source added that the Governing Council was also cross with the pastor for allegedly converting the church’s bus to his personal use.

This amongst other things were allegedly to be some of the underlying reasons the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorinde had told The PUNCH that “the former chaplain was queried a number of times in the past for conduct unbecoming of his office.

“The culmination of various indiscretions led to the Governing Council of the church issuing yet another query that led to his being relieved of his post.

“This has got nothing to do with the First Lady. The chaplain is looking for an excuse to cover his insouciance. It’s nothing but cheap blackmail.”

Eight Nigerian students are among the best performers in the 2015/2016 Cambridge International Examinations organised by the University of Cambridge, UK.

According to TheCable.ng, the exams, conducted in different subjects across various secondary schools, are aimed at preparing students “for life, and helping them develop an informed curiosity and a lasting passion for learning”.

The Nigerians include Enwezoh Kachisicho (Food & Nutrition), Anyaegbunam Victor (Mathematics), Daniel-Aguebor Jesutobiloba (Mathematics) and Olatunde Olaposi (Mathematics).

Others are Komolafe Hossana (Religious Studies), Lily Merour (Computer Science), Olatunji Oluwakorede (Mathematics) and Oluwagbemisola Oresegun (Religious Studies).

Three other Nigerians were adjudged the ‘Best Across’ all subjects in three other Cambridge exams.

They are Ayodeji Oluwafisayo, Ukabiala Chimdi and Kalango Enatarari.

They were honoured alongside other awardees at a ceremony organised by the British Council on Friday in Lagos.

Connie Price, country director, British Council, congratulated the successful students.

She said the council will “continue to build on our innovative work in the arts, education, English, exams, society, peace building and gender equality to integrate it more with our work with young people”.

“At the focal point of our work are our policies which include equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and child protection,” she added.

Activities of the Facebook company to shut down fraudulent acts by the Nigerian internet fraudsters known as ‘yahoo boys’ or ‘G boys’ on the social networks may be yielding positive results.

On Friday last week, one of such internet fraudsters went on facebook to beg the founder and CEO of the Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg to stop closing the accounts they use for their operations on the social network.

The fraudster who goes by a name written in Chinese put up a post at around 10 am where he begged Zuckerberg to stop closing their alternative accounts on facebook.

Buhari is a racist who hates the Igbo nation
Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, says the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and other Yoruba leaders in the party must be regretting supporting President Muhammadu Buhari in becoming Nigeria’s president in 2015.

He further said they are crying over the treatment being meted out to Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo and the southwest region in general by the “cabal” in the Villa.

He also lambasted Igbos who joined the APC, saying Buhari hated and had nothing to offer them.

In a statement Thursday night, Fani-Kayode said “it is only now that the Yoruba wing of the APC are really getting to know him and his evil cabal and they are all crying behind closed doors. They regret supporting them during the 2015 election deeply.



“Any Igbo person in the APC needs to have his or her head examined. Such a person is a confused soul who has been conned and who has sold his soul to an Igbo hater, a radical Islamist, an ethnic supremacist, a religious bigot and a racist.

“You say he chose an Igbo man as his running mate in the past and my answer is so what? He did so because he was looking for votes and not because he loves them.

“Next you will say he has Igbo Ministers in his cabinet forgetting that the constitution compels him to give each state in the country, including the Igbo ones, at least one Minister.

“He has not done the Igbo any favour by giving them Ministers or making their sons his running mate twice because that is their due. They are entitled to it and their votes and support was badly needed.



“He did the same for the Tinubu group in the SW in 2015 but now that he is ill and out of action look at what his group are doing to Osinbajo, Tinubu, Baba Akande. Look at the humiliation they are subjecting the Yoruba wing of the APC and the VP too.

“You say that Buhari loves the Igbo yet his security forces and military have killed and locked up more Igbo leaders and youths and marginalised more Igbos at the Federal level more than ANY other Nigerian President or Head of State since the civil war.

“He loves Igbos so much that he has not arrested or prosecuted ANY of the well-armed, well-funded and well-organised Fulani militants and herdsmen that have gone into Igbo land in the last two years and killed thousands of people, burnt their homes, raped their women and stolen their land.

“He loves the Igbo so much that out of the two key positions that have been given to southerners in the Presidents team in the Villa not ONE of them has gone to an Igbo despite the fact that the Igbos constitute such a large number of people in the south.

“All the numerous other key positions in the Villa are in the hands of northerners and only two key posts were given to southerners. Of the two none was given to the Igbo. Is that love for the south and particularly the Igbo or is it contempt and disdain?

“This sort of ethnic domination and northernisation of the Villa has NEVER happened before and it is shameful. I worked in the Villa for 3 years and I know how it works and how things are usually balanced between north and south and the six zones.

“But this is not the case under Buhari. For him only two key positions in the Villa, that of Femi Adesina who is Special Adviser on Media and who is from the South West and Ita Enang, who is Special Adviser on the National Assembly and who is from the South South, are the ONLY southerners in key positions in Buhari’s Presidency.

“No Igbo man is good enough for him to put in a key position in the Presidency and the popular refrain amongst his inner circle and his little cabal is that Igbos cannot be trusted. Everyone knows this. They don’t like southerners generally and they despise the Igbo particularly.

A Muslim cleric, Sheik Yusuf Amzat-Salam, 35, his wife and four children were killed by hoodlums in the early hours of Tuesday in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the incident occurred in Atiba area of Odogbolu Local Government Area.

It was gathered that the couple’s eldest child, a girl, was aged 11, followed by her twin brothers, aged 8 and the last female child, aged 2.

All the victims had since been buried accordance to Muslim rites amid wailing.



The attackers, whose motive could not be ascertained, butchered the entire household with machetes.

Investigations revealed that the victims were discovered in the pool of their blood when a school bus came to pick the children.

A close family friend, Mr Yusuf Oludaisi, described the act as dastardly and wicked, wondering what the victim must have done to warrant such treatment. “He was someone whom we grew up together.

I have known him for 30 years to be humble and kind to everyone who came across his path. “It’s really sad because this was someone you will never see quarrelling or being disrespectful”, said Oludaisi.

After 15 months on the rise, the consumer price index (CPI) which measures inflation rate in the Nigerian economy has been on the decline, dropping for the third consecutive month.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), inflation rate dropped to 17.24 percent (year-on-year) in April, declining by 0.02 percent from the figures recorded in March 2017, TheCable.ng reports.

“This is the third consecutive month of a decline in the headline CPI rate, exhibiting effects of some easing in already high food and non-food prices, as well as favourable base effects over 2016 prices,” NBS said via its inflation report for April 2017.

“Increases were recorded in all COICOP divisions that yield the Headline Index.The top items to have recorded the highest year on year increases across all the divisions were Solid Fuels, Bread and Cereals, Meat, Liquid Fuels, Clothing materials, other articles of clothing and clothing accessories, and Fish.”



On a month-on-month basis, the headline index increased by 1.60 percent in April 2017, 0.12 percent points lower than the rate recorded in March.

On this basis, the highest rise in prices was dominated by food items including coffee, tea and cocoa, potato, yam and tubers, bread and cereals, milk cheese and eggs and meat and fish.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP) aims to see inflation cut to about 15 percent by the end of 2017.

A rematch between unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko could take place at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium in October.

It will be recalled that Joshua stopped Klitschko at Wembley in April to add the WBA world heavyweight title to his IBF crown.

Oct. 28 could be a potential date for the rematch, with the Pricipality Stadium being considered as the venue.

Wales’ rugby union team will play at the Principality Stadium for most Saturdays in November and December, leaving Oct. 28 free.



“Talks are ongoing over venues,” said Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn.

Joshua’s thrilling win over Ukrainian Klitschko was watched by a post-war record crowd of 90,000 at Wembley.

Staging a rematch outdoors could be difficult in the autumn, but the 74,500-capacity Principality Stadium’s retractable roof could make it a viable option.

Hearn has said he believes a rematch would go ahead in spite of its casting doubt over whether the 27-year-old Joshua could retain his IBF title.



The IBF has named Kubrat Pulev as a mandatory challenger, and says a fight with the Bulgarian must be next for Joshua.

As such, the IBF appears obliged to strip Joshua should he opt for a return fight with Klitschko, but Hearn has indicated he will put in a mandatory exception request.

Martyn Phillips, chief executive of both the Principality Stadium and Welsh Rugby Union, has previously said the governing body is discussing with various boxing promoters.

The stadium has already hosted speedway, rugby league, football and boxing, and Phillips says talks are continuing with the NFL.

If Joshua were to fight at the Principality Stadium, it would be the fourth time Wales’ national stadium has staged boxing
