Naira Marley take note. It is unwise to be on the wrong side of the decency. This is an obvious ploy to boost ticket sales by appealling to the Nigerian audience .
Smart Move on their part. It is a validation of all Davido's hard work.

This is extremely sad. The lives of detainees need to be treated with more respect. Unfortunately this is the downside of a terrible international reputation. A good name is far better than Silver and Gold.

Gradually all Shoprite stores across the nation are closing up, huge revenue losses will surely be recorded. Strong warning to the south Africans

I just hope all those businesses are insured. A crippling loss like we witnessed at Lekki can spell the end of any business. I believe those who looted are your average pickpocket looking for any excuse to plunder and kill. No person with a conscience will take what does not belong to them.

We get your anger but we want South Africa police to make arrests don't we? Let's just say Nigeria police is leading by example.

Thank you. More important than revenge is the will to do the right thing. The inability of the South African Security forces to curb the bad eggs among those population is what led to this violence. We cannot be guilty of the same crime.

Religion / Re: Freethinkers- Do You Ever Feel Lonely? by TheLastDon1(m): 6:58pm On Mar 08, 2018
butterflylion:

What I am saying is that EVERYONE is restricted INCLUDING the so called freethinker.

Trying to shift this to religion and tradition isn't what your OP is about is it?

I agree whole heartedly with your comment. I would like to point out that this situation is similar to the 12 blind men who had to describe an elephant from touch. As you already know, each was right and all where wrong because they described just a single facet of a big picture. See the big picture and all arguments disappear. All these moral schemes were made for man, and should be judged on the basis of their utility to the individual and humanity. Beliefs are as diverse as people and no size fits all. The responsibility to find what fits, lies with the individual. The belief that the individual has no choice is the biggest evil. There is a choice. Not making one is also a choice.Sticking to parental teachings is a choice.Sticking to what gives power is a choice.Sticking to what gives life meaning is a choice.Sticking to what gives respect in society is a choice. We need to accept that a choice was made.

Making an argument for things that was created by geniuses years ago is futile, we can only guess at their wisdom. It is far more useful to give testimonies of the peace and fulfilment your choice has brought.

I chose freethinking, it has brought me clarity and ridded me of guilt. It has not taught me compassion or kindness or love or forgiveness. It gave me understanding but not emotional satisfaction. I am still searching in church, mosque music for the completeness I know is out there.

I see no point in comparing apples to oranges!!!!
If we accept this point we can move to more productive conversations like
1)what are the pitfalls of free thinking and how can it be remedied.
2)what is the best way to raise children?

Freethinking is not a cult or religion that you convert to. Your "already being done" scheme is to subdue people into adopting your self and clan determined "superior" religion.

A freethinker does not think he/she superior, but capable of seeing things from multiple vantage points and thereby gaining unrivaled insight into a matter. The more you seek (multi and not unidirectional), the more you shall find.

I agree some atheists and freethinkers make noise here just as much as the religionists. However, what I have been able to observe in my many years of being on this platform is that the silent ones, the ones that force you to think, without prejudice or an underlying motive to convert you, usually are the most enlightened on the matter. And would rather have you reason your way into belief or unbelief as the case may be, by asking questions and dropping hints. This way you find your own way to enlightenment, as opposed to being told what to do and what to think.

So as for shouting at the rooftops, let's evolve past worshipping the loudest vessel. We know how the saying goes

Freethinking is a gamblers approach to personal enlightenment. They have no foundations. Just personal opinions (logic, reason, and empiricism) which on it's own can be hugely flawed as logic, reason and Co are not universally acceptable to all but self imposed.

So is Religion. Do false/fabricated foundtions count?

rinrin23:
This is a question that I'd like to pose to those nairalanders on a quest to enlightenment, those in search of the truth of our existence and purpose on earth, those who have and hold views contrary to popular belief.
Do you ever feel lonely?

I have come a long way in my quest for enlightenment and yet I know that I have only just scratched the surface. Four years ago I asked a few questions that lead me away from my religious beliefs, and "down the rabbit hole".

This is a journey that completely changed my life, exposed the weaknesses in the core of my reasoning and belief system. I have since gone from "Christian" to "Atheist" and to being in complete and utter awe of this great mystery that we live in. I always say that "I am searching " and this has opened my mind greatly to infinite possibilities. Sometimes I look back at my previous posts and comments on this platform and laugh at how far I've come.

What I have found is that regardless of the bond and connection I form with anyone else, there's a huge gaping void of loneliness I feel when I can't share my journey with them. I'll quote Carl Jung when he says "As a child I felt myself to be alone, and I am still because I know things and must hint at things that others know nothing of and for the most part do not want to know. Loneliness does not come from having no one about, but from being unable to communicate the things that seem important to oneself or from holding views which others find inadmissible ".

I don't always feel this way, but every now and then I look at the person I want to spend the rest of my life with and I feel a twinge of that deep seated loneliness. Does he know that I am searching? Yes. Does he understand what that truely means? No. Would I ever be able to share this incredible yet intimate part of my existence with him? I fear tremendously, No. Would I always have to tiptoe around these things, twist words so that I am understood, deflect questions he asks cos he might never understand? I fear tremendously, Yes.

It's been an emotional night for me as I contemplate these things. I'd like to know if anyone else is in my shoes, how do you handle it?

You are not alone dear..I have also contemplated the meaning of existence and the place of God in the life of man. I have come to believe that nobody has the right answer to this question.

Greater men before us have contemplated these questions without any conclusive result.

I have felt the loneliness you speak of. The Isolation can be crippling.

Nigeria is a very religious country. But Religion practised by most of us is a substitute for culture.
I have grown in my understanding of our human condition. Not everybody is a thinker, just like not everybody has musical talent or a lawyers acumen or a great painter's eye.
Life is extremely complicated and the burden of knowledge makes life weary.
The concept of God is a useful and approximate way to live a life beneficial to oneself and neighbours without the burden of Understanding.
Life need not be understood to be lived and enjoyed fully.
This scheme of things is an inheritance from our wise ancestors.
If you are blessed with the gift of logical thought, think away, but do not be condescending to those who you perceive as ignorant of the truth. They might just have it better than you. They might be engrossed in enjoying the music of life without understanding it.

It is not those who understand a thing creatively that attain maximum utility from it , but they who use it as it is.

Incessant logical thought is a burden and not everybody is cursed with it.

This is my current perspective on religion, it might change with maturity and understanding.

The government needs to oversee accountants in their employment. There probably is an explantion for this discrepancy....You don't see real corruption so blatantly...They should do their bookkeeping well so Nigerians can focus on the real corruption issues....I believe this is misdirection..
