According to The Guardian, in a statement on Wednesday night the Italian federation announced that the Ventura’s 16-month reign was over. “At the meeting convened by the chairman, Carlo Tavecchio, which was attended by the presidents of the federal members a discussion was had following the failure of the national team to qualify for the 2018 World Cup,” the statement read. “As a first point on the agenda, Tavecchio communicated a decision of the technical guidance committee, and to date, Gian Piero Ventura is no longer the national team head coach.” Ventura had defended his leadership as “one of the best records in 40 years” despite failing to lead the 1934, 1938, 1982 and 2006 winners to their 19th World Cup. “I lost only two games in two years,” he had told Italian television show Le Iene in a brief interview. A jury of seven women and five men heard his case and deliberated for over 10 hours after retiring last Wednesday. Debono passed away just months after her dream wedding in October, as the cancer spread to her brain, liver, lungs, spleen and bones. The newlywed had been to see two GPs about a red lump on the underside of her arm in 2012 but they told her it was nothing to be concerned about. For cosmetic reasons, the young woman eventually decided to get the lump and surrounding lymph nodes removed. Her father Lex Dubano told Australia’s 60 minutes: "I watched her take her last breath. We watched her go through something like that. "You don’t want to ever have to experience that. It’s really cruel." Daniel Wallace, 33, was caught by the police when he used the victim's card to buy a McDonald's meal in Walthamstow, north London. A court heard how Wallace attacked the woman in her 20s when she was walking back to her flat after a night out with friends. The 33-year-old broke into her home and drugged her with the drug GHB. She awoke the next morning naked in her bed with multiple injuries. Upon examination of her flat, the woman realised a number of valuables belonging to herself and her flatmates were missing. She reported the ordeal to the police the following day and whilst awaiting results from the forensic tests, the victim’s bank card - which was stolen during the rape – was used at McDonalds in Walthamstow. Wallace was captured at the McDonald's using the card with an unknown man and woman. Forensic tests had previously identified Wallace, who was in possession of lubricants, the drug GHB and Viagra when he was arrested. During interview, Wallace remained silent to all questions. Wallace was initially found guilty of burglary at the trial in June but he has now been sentenced to 12 years at Blackfriars Crown Court after he was found guilty of rape following a re-trial.
