An allergic reaction to Halloween make-up left a 25-year-old woman with permanently damaged eyesight.

Emmajane Duffy, 25, dressed up as a clown for just one night but within hours, the customer relations adviser from Blantyre, Glasgow, began to experience irritation, which worsened to become an excruciating pain.

She recalls: “It felt like a piece of glass was in my eye - I was in terrible pain. I did an eye bath to clean them out, but it didn’t help.

“Minutes later, the sensation worsened. It felt like I had razor blades cutting across my eye-ball. It was the most horrendous scratching pain.”

Despite having carefully cleaned off the make-up, she was unable to open her eyes the next morning and was forced to use Siri on her phone to call her boyfriend, Steven Stewart, 27.

"As we drove to the hospital, I was terrified I would never see again.’

Doctors at the hospital told her she had superficial scratches all over her corneas and was lucky not to have gone blind.

She said: “It was the worst experience of my life. Halloween became my own personal horror story that nearly left me blind.

“I definitely won’t be dressing up again in a hurry.”

Saudi Arabia just made a humanoid robot a citizen, making it the first country to grant a robot citizenship.

The robot, Sophia, took to the stage at a conference in Riyadh to express how ‘honoured’ she was at being made a Saudi citizen.

“I am very honored and proud for this unique distinction,” the robot
said onstage. “This is historical to be the first robot in the world to be recognized with a citizenship.”

Saudi Arabia recently granted women the right to drive. Now, the Gulf Nation has granted a humanoid robot 'full citizenship'.

A suicidal 12-year-old boy jumped off a 30ft bridge in Virginia Saturday, killing a 22-year-old woman who was driving her SUV, Virginia State Police said.

The 12-year-old schoolboy suffered life-threatening injuries, after the tragic incident which killed 22-year-old Marisa Harris.

Harris' boyfriend was also in the car with her when the incident happened, he was able to steer the car off of the highway and stop it. Harris was pronounced dead at the scene. Her boyfriend was not injured.

Marisa lived in Arlington and was studying clinical counselling at Marymount University.

Her family said that she wanted to work with children with severe behavioural problems and was a high-achieving student.

Marisa’s mother Leigh Miller said: ‘She was caring – I mean she had an absolute love for children.’

She added: ‘She was awesome. I miss her so much.’

Her father, Patrick Harris, said she was outgoing. He said: ‘She was fearless, she was absolutely fearless. She was loved by her friends, she was dearly loved by her family, she was admired by her peers, she was just a shining star.’

The Oklahoma City Thunder team were stunned after their team plane was damaged mid-air after reportedly striking a 'bird'.

The Thunder team were on the Boeing 757-200 when it was hit by an object during the flight, leaving a large crater in the nose of the jet.

Victoria Wolf, a Delta Airlines spokesperson, has said: "Delta flight 8935, operating from Minneapolis to Chicago-Midway as a charter flight for the Oklahoma City Thunder, likely encountered a bird while on descent into Chicago.

Nine sailors from a nuclear missile submarine have been sacked after they tested positive for cociane while on duty.

The Daily Mail reported that the crew from HMS Vigilant – which carries the Trident nuclear deterrent – were sent home and kicked out of the service after the class A drug was found in their blood.

The newspaper also alleged that the service personnel held drug-fuelled parties while the submarine was docked in the US to pick up nuclear warheads, and one man had sex with a prostitute in a swimming pool.

A spokesman for the Royal Navy said: "We do not tolerate drugs misuse by service personnel.

"Those found to have fallen short of our high standards face being discharged from service."

Earlier this month, the Navy said it was investigating an alleged affair between two crew members on HMS Vigilant.

Watson Franklin Mandujano Doroteo, 24, who was pronounced dead by doctors at the Contingency Hospital of Tingo Maria in Peru shocked his grieving family when they discovered he was alive just moments before he was put in a coffin.



Scared relatives called doctors who confirmed Doroteo was showing vital signs, so he was removed from the coffin and transferred to hospital, reported Argentine newspaper Los Andes.






But unfortunately he was pronounced dead soon after arriving at the hospital.

Now his grieving family are seeking justice and police are investigating the case.

An italian man has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for infecting more than 30 women with the HIV virus, after having unprotected sex with them.

Valentino Talluto, a 33-year-old accountant, seduced dozens of women via social networks for a decade before his arrest in November 2015. Police believe he had sex with at least 53 women during that time, passing on the virus to 32 of them.

The male partners of three of the women subsequently contracted the potentially fatal illness, as did the eight-month-old infant of a fourth woman.

Talluto always found a way to avoid using condoms, telling his partners that he was allergic to them, or had just had an HIV test.



Many of the women only discovered they had HIV after they heard of Talluto's arrest and had a test.

Many of the victims were students, some mothers. The youngest was 14 at the beginning of their relationship, the oldest around 40.

He expressed regret for what had happened, but said he did not realise the consequences of his actions.

Customers at a Bigg's restaurant in Jabi, Abuja, fled for safety after an errant Vehicle Inspection Officer (VIO) forces a taxi driver to crash its vehicle into the restaurant.

A facebook user, Mo’Nice Osaxiest Edoboy, shared the story saying:

“You feeling hungry you just take a walk to an eatery to have some food as you're eating, all you could see is a tax breaking through the glass and coming inside where you're seating to eat. That's what just happened today at Mr Biggs Jabi, VIO officer dragging the steering with the taxi driver and they lost control and found themselves inside Mr Biggs leaving many injured thank God no life was lost, they quickly called solders and started arresting people to cover up their mess so picture was not taken.

An attempt by a 33-year-old mother of two, Fatima Balogun, to smuggle a phone to her boyfriend, who is in prison custody has been thwarted by officials of the Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS) in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.

Fatima Balogun, 33, confessed that she tried to hide the phone inside a cooler of soup she brought for her boyfriend, Ganiyu Ajibode. She was apprehended by men of the Special Intelligence Unit of the NPS at the gate lodge of Abeokuta Maximum Prisons in Ibara.

The suspect who claims to be a divorcee, said she lives in Fagba, Iju-Saga in Lagos. According to her, she met Ganiyu two years ago after her divorce from her children's father.

Domingo Bulacio, 56, has been accused of fathering 8 kids with his own daughter after keeping her as a sex slave for 20 years.

He is accused of repeatedly raping his own daughter over two decades during which time she gave birth to multiple children.

Evidence provided to the court revealed that a DNA test confirmed that Bulacio was responsible for his daughter's eight pregnancies.

Jamie Harron, 27, who was sentenced to three months in a Dubai Jail for touching a man's hip as he carried a drink through a crowded bar has been told he is free to leave following an intervention from the emirate's ruler.

The 27-year-old electrician from Stirling, Scotland, was sentenced for public indecency after being arrested at the Rock Bottom bar in July over the incident in which he said he put his hand on a man's hip to avoid spilling his drink.

Campaign group Detained in Dubai (DiD), which has been supporting Mr Harron, said he was sentenced to three months imprisonment at court on Sunday, but has now had his passport returned.

Mr Harron has collected his passport and he's making arrangements to return to the UK, the group added.

Radha Stirling, CEO of DiD, said: "We wish to express our deepest gratitude to Sheikh Mohammed for his personal intervention in this case, and for exonerating Jamie at long last.

"This was a courageous and honourable decision on the part of Sheikh Mohammed, and while it highlights the urgent need for judicial reform in the country, it is also a hopeful sign that the United Arab Emirate's leadership possesses the will and vision to pursue such reforms in the future."

Mr Harron had been working in Afghanistan and was on a two-day stopover in the United Arab Emirates at the time. He since lost his job because of his detainment.

A body has been found in the hunt for Sherin Mathews, the missing three-year-old girl who vanished from her home after her dad allegedly made her stand outside her home at 3am as a punishment for not drinking her milk.

Police in Richardson, Texas, said they feared she had been abducted and issued an 'Amber Alert'.

Her 37-year-old father, Wesley Mathews, was arrested by the police after a massive search investigation was launched.

He allegedly told police he made Sherin stand next to a tree behind the fence at their home alone when she didn't finish her milk.

When he returned 15 minutes later the child was gone.

That was when he noticed that she had gone missing, however he did not contact the police until 8am, five hours after she is said to have vanished, according to Sergeant Kevin Perlick.

He told officers that he was doing laundry while waiting for daylight or for Sherin, who had been adopted from an orphanage in India, to return by herself.

Sherin’s adoptive mother was asleep at the time and does not face any charges.

A police spokesman told reporters that investigators have no reason to believe that the body belongs to another missing child.

They are awaiting positive identification and for an autopsy to determine what killed the child.

Wesley was arrested on child abandonment and endangerment charges the same day that Sherin went missing but has since been released on bail.

Umaru Musa Yar'Adua University in Katsina has employed the services of snake charmers to rid the campus of snakes, following the death of a final year student of Economics, Zainab Umar, last Monday after she was bitten by a snake three days earlier.

Dean of Students’ Affairs, Dr. Suleiman Kankara, confirmed the hiring of the snake charmers, to rid the campus of snakes and reptiles.

“Yes, we have employed the services of snake charmers to assist us in ridding the campus of snakes. Although the snake charmers just began work, plans had been in the pipeline to hire them.

“We normally hire the snake charmers whenever we get a report of presence of snakes on the campus. It is unfortunate that the lady died. We know we tried our best to prevent her death,” Kankara explained.

Dean of Students’ Affairs, Dr. Suleiman Kankara, claimed that the family of the deceased did not allow her complete her medication.

He added, “Zainab was bitten by a snake on Friday evening and she was promptly treated at our health centre.

"I spoke with her mother on phone on Saturday that she should be allowed to continue her treatment.

“I later checked the clinic on Saturday evening only to learn that her friends and her brother had taken her away from the clinic against medical advice.

“They did not sign any document to secure her release. We later learnt of her death on Monday morning. May her soul rest in peace.”

Late Zainab Umar was said to have been buried in her hometown, Dandume, Katsina State.

Football legend, George Weah, the leading presidential candidate in Liberia attended a service of The Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN), led by Pastor T.B Joshua on Sunday.

"My brother is here today because he loves his country and wants God's choice for his country," Pastor Joshua stated.

"He is not here to impose himself. What does God say about his country, Liberia? What is God's opinion? That's why he is here.

Pastor T.B Joshua reiterated that he was not favoring any particular side of the political spectrum but his own role was to pray for 'the will of God' to be done in Liberia.

“We are not herbalists or witch-doctors; we are people of God. God’s choice is our choice. We cannot pray against God’s will.

“Without God’s corresponding power, we cannot pray to Him. For every step we take – every movement and action – intimation comes first.

“There must be suggestion from the Spirit to move before we move. If truly I am a man of God, I must hear from God – move or don’t move.”

“God’s opinion is what we should seek in our country – simple! God is the Answer, the Final,” the cleric added.

The presidential run-off election between Weah and Boakai is scheduled to hold on November 7, 2017.

On thursday, Justice Hakeem Oshodi of the Ikeja Division of the Lagos State High Court fixed November 3rd for the trial of Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike (popularly known as Evans) and five others.



The defendants – Evans, Uche Amadi, Ogechi Uchechukwu, Nwachukwu Okwuchukwu, Chilaka Ifeanyi, and Victor Aduba – pleaded not guilty to an amended two-count charge of conspiracy and kidnapping.



They were accused of conspiring on February 14 at about 7:45pm at Ilupeju, Lagos, to kidnap Donatus Dunu and collect €223,000 for his release.
At the last court sitting in August, when the defendants were first arraigned before the judge, Evans and Mr. Amadi pleaded guilty to the two counts.
Mr. Nwachukwu pleaded guilty to conspiracy and not guilty to kidnapping.
Ms. Uchechukwu, the only female in the group, and Messrs Ifeanyi and Aduba,
pleaded not guilty to the charges.



But on Thursday, amidst a heavy security presence that included the police anti-bomb squad around the court premises, the defendants were unanimous in their plea before the judge – all said they were not guilty of the charges against them.
Before their charges were read, Ike Chika, the prosecuting counsel, informed the court of their intention to bring an amended charge which would require the defendants to take fresh pleas. He added that the amended charge had already been served on the defence.
The statement elicited arguments between the prosecution and defence counsels, with the latter claiming they were just served minutes before the day’s proceedings began and, therefore, did not have the opportunity to discuss with their clients.



Olukoya Ogungbeje, counsel to Messr Evans and Amadi said, "I need a new date to confer with my clients because I have not discussed with them on the implication of the charge as amended."



O. Ajanaku, counsel to Mr. Okwuchukwu, however, urged the court to continue with the case as his client was ready.
“There is nothing new in the charge, just a change in the section of the law that the second charge was attributed to, the charges remain the same and I am ready to commence in the case.”



Ms. Ike, the lead prosecuting counsel, also argued against the move for adjournment saying the defence counsels were only attempting to derail the case.
“According to Section 155(1) of the Criminal Justice Administration of Lagos State, in case of an amended charge, the law does not require any formal application, all that the law needs to do is to take fresh plea to the new charge, there is no material change in the charge, the request is an attempt to derail the case,” the counsel said.



The amended charges retained the accusations of conspiracy and kidnapping but changed the section in the Law on punishments regarding the offences allegedly committed.



Justice Oshodi, after listening to arguments, gave a 45 minute recess to allow the defence counsels confer with their clients on the amended charge, noting that the defendants should be given every opportunity to defend themselves.
Upon resumption of the matter, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges of conspiracy to commit felony to wit kidnapping under Section 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Laws and also kidnapping.
Mr. Ogungbeje then informed the court that since the defendants had taken a fresh plea, he will be withdrawing a motion he filed earlier to notify the judge of his clients’ intention to change their guilty pleas to not guilty.



The judge said the amended charge had rendered the application unnecessary and then struck it out.
Speaking to journalists after the court proceedings, Mr. Ogungbeje said his clients’ initial guilty plea was due to pressure from the prosecution, the Lagos State government, and the Nigeria Police Force.
“I must say that my client was pressurised by the defence counsel and police to plead guilty but he has now said it today, that he is not guilty,” Mr. Ogungbeje said.
“He has been extorted too and we have called on international organizations to look into his case of financial extortion and molestation of his girlfriend, we would not rush issues but we are right on course.”



Last week, Mr. Ogungbeje had filed a petition to the Police Service Commission alleging extortion and sexual molestation of Evans’ girlfriend by the police.
The police denied the allegations .
