AIG Adegoke Leads Zone 2 Police Officers On 10.2km Fitness Walk, Says 'Our Round The Clock Job' Requires Fitness

Being on a constant move throughout the day, standing for long hours under the rain and sun, and intense pressure are some of the hallmarks of the work of a Police officer. It demands high level of fitness and health to avoid breakdown and collapse, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP can report.

In this view, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police incharge of Zone 2 Command, Onikan (comprising Lagos and Ogun States) today led Police officers on a fitness walk to enhance physical wellness, mental health, and emotional well-being of the officers. The Walk which stretched from the Zone 2 Headquarters in Onikan to Eko Atlantic City turning on Ahmadu Bello Way, to Adeola Odeku and back to the Zone 2 covered about 10.2 km.

Addressing NAOSNP members that participated in the fitness walk after the tasking but refreshing walk, AIG Adegoke Fayoade stated: 'This walk is a strategic instruction of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun that we need to be healthy for the job. The Police job is a very tasking job and we require fitness and health to do the job. That is why we decided to do this Walk on a regular basis, it helps us to perform our job effectively which is round the clock.'

'My charge to our Police officers is that we need to be fit for the job. During leisure, take out time to engage in exercise. It lowers blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol. Today we did about 10.2km, last time we covered 8.5km, maybe next time, we will do 15km.'

The Zonal Police PRO, Zone 2, CSP Umma Tunni Ayuba added: 'This Walk plays a vital role in mental fitness which impacts what we do on a daily basis. It is also a means to unite us as officers and engage with members of the public. You can see that some members of the public join us because it goes a long way in the health of an individual.'

'I didn't know we did as much as 10.2km because it was fun and enjoyable with good music, like they say, 'music is life'. I encourage officers to continue to engage in exercise, don't wait for something to happen to your body before you look for what to do.'

The walk was spearheaded by the Zonal Sport officer, SP Mattias and Lagos State Command Sport Officer, ASP Abayomi Sonaike, SP Mattias and Supol Alex of Zone 2. 'We thank God that we have an agile AIG who is concerned about our fitness and health. Our AIG Adegoke Fayoade knows that walks will help our agility to do the job better,' ASP Abayomi Sonaike remarked.

Commissioner of Police, Explosive Ordinance Disposal-Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Command of Nigeria Police Force (NPF), CP Patrick Adedeji Atayero, said the success story of the command in safeguarding the internal security of the country would not have been with the strategic support of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, who provided funding for the training, regularly ensuring that the personnel are mobilized and the procurement of high-tech equipment, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP can report.
 
CP Patrick Atayero, who noted that the last quarter of the year 2024 has been indeed very busy and most productive for the Command, added that “we have made great strides and achievements due largely to the benevolent support we have constantly received from the Inspector General of Police, in terms of procurement of equipment as well as training and capacity building interventions, locally and internationally.”
 
CP Atayero, who made this disclosure during the last EOD-CBRN quarterly meeting of the year parley of the Command held on December 5, also appreciated the support of The Office of the National Security Adviser, The Nigeria Police Trust Fund, and organizations such as the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority, United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), The Halo Trust, the Office of Nuclear Smuggling Detection and Deterrence in the United States Department of Energy, The United States Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs and the INTERPOL for intelligence interventions at different times which culminated in the remarkable achievements of the Command.
 
The EOD-CBRN quarterly meeting also had in attendance the DCP, EOD-CBRN Command, the ACP, EOD-CBRN Command, All Base/Unit Commanders and other Senior Officers, while declaring the conference open on behalf of IGP Kayode Egbetokun, specially commended all the officers and men of the Command for their tireless efforts in combating illegal use, storage, and transportation of explosives and allied materials that threaten the very fabrics of the peace and security of the nation.
 
“Indeed, there’s no quantifying the great harm that could have resulted if such items had gotten into the wrong hands but for the professionalism, hard work and constant vigilance of our personnel in ensuring the safe and lawful production, storage, transportation and use of these materials.”
 
CP Atayero stated that the “specialized training programmes have enhanced our capacity to detect, respond to, dispose of, and investigate incidents involving the use of explosive ordnances especially Improvised Explosives Devices, the use of which continue to pose significant threat within the country. Personnel of the Command have improved their knowledge and skills in the detection and handling of radiation and radioactive materials, while we have expanded our pool of instructors for Explosive Ordnance Risk.”
 
As part of its efforts to curb explosives related crimes in the country, the police officer said the Command has embarked on enlightenment campaign to ensure that members of the public are adequately educated on the dangers connected to indiscriminate exposure and disposure of IEDs. “Officers are now equipped to generate and spread public awareness to local communities, schools, public parks, market places and other places of interest in areas of interest,” adding that the Command made a notable milestone within the period under review with the official commissioning of the EOD-CBRN training school, Maiduguri, Borno State, with the active support of the UNMAS and the British Government.
 
CP Atayero said the UNMAS and the British Government should be commended for donating crucial equipment for training and supplied solar powered electricity generation to the school for stable power supply.
 
CP Atayero stated that “our personnel have worked tirelessly to respond to several major incidents, especially those involving the detection and disposal of IEDs/Uxos. On 26th July 2026 at about 1300hrs Base 36 Akwa personnel attached to the Joint Task Force recovered 17 IEDs from a dislodged camp of IPOB/ESN at Agulu, Ihiala and Aguata in Anambra State. On 2nd August 2024 at about 1705hrs Base 13 Maiduguri personnel recovered six projected grenades from Ajilari cross area of Bulumkutu division of Borno State. On 6th August 2024 at about 0003hrs, Base 13 Maiduguri detected and rendered safe a booby trap IED close to Goni Umaru Mosque, Borno State. On 17th September 2024 a UXO was recovered at Baza Michika LGA of Adamawa State by personnel of Base 10 Yola,” in the period under review.
 
Other key achievements include “On 28th September 2024 at about 1230hrs Base 6 Port Harcourt recovered 4 pieces of 25mm High explosives, 3 safety fuse and 4 pieces of blasting caps from Area Command personnel who intercepted the explosive materials while on stop-and-search along Marcoba-Ibeto road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. On 2nd October 2024 at 1845hrs Base 13 Maiduguri recovered a UXO at Ngadabul Riverbank, Dala Kafanti community, Borno State. Similarly, on 5th October 2024 at about 1315hrs 3 Russian projectiles each containing 780g of TNT was recovered at Ngadabul Riverbank, Dala Kafanti community. On 9th October 2024 at 1300hrs personnel of Base 6 Port Harcourt during technical sweeping of Onyigbo Local Government Secretariat recovered 4 pieces of High explosive and 4 blasting caps.”
 
The police officer said “It is important to reiterate the enormous harm and injury to lives and properties that could have resulted but for the timely and professional responses of our personnel to the listed incidents. Indeed, personnel of the NPF EOD-CBRN Command are unsung heroes who put lives and limbs on the line each and every time they are called upon to respond to such incidents. I can assure you that the IGP is quite mindful of your efforts and hence his love and support for the Command, I encourage you all that are gathered here as Bases and Unit Commanders to take this message of support and the goodwill of our amiable IGP to your personnel. I also seize this opportunity, on the behalf of the IGP, to commend the conduct of the personnel of the NPF EOD-CBRN Command during the recently concluded gubernatorial elections in Ondo and Edo States, as well as Local Government Council elections across several states, our personnel displayed absolute professionalism and dedication to duty.
 
The conference, themed “Professionalism: Key to Ensuring and Enhancing Operational Readiness and Effectiveness,” CP Atayero noted, is very timely, adding that “As we move forward, I urge you to remain focused, avoid complacency, and commit to your duties while upholding professionalism. Professionalism is the foundation of our combat-readiness and operational effectiveness. As we pledge to discharge our duties conscientiously, let’s strive to meet international best practices.”

The surging population of youths with diminishing societal values copycat syndrome, and dwindling access to public revenue space have caused irrational minds to see crimes as the only alternative to getting rich quickly, to replicate the lavish standard of living being flaunted by individuals, thereby using the ill-gotten wealth to oppress others in society to the detriment of the dedicated, diligent and peaceful majority contributing to the development of the nation in lawful ways.

The conversation in the communities and the nation at large is about challenges of insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, cybercrimes, violent crime, terrorism, one chance/419, armed robbery, and transnational crime as well as economic saboteurs despite the success story of the security operatives in Nigeria who confronted these criminals with minimal personal protective gadgets.

These criminal activities have made everyone conscious and apprehensive of fellow citizens as the level of trust among individuals has diminished. The percentage of those causing these crimes is not more than five percent of the peace-loving 195 million people and their actions are on the front burner in every household.

The organization responsible for enforcing the internal security of this nation is the Nigeria Police Force which had its job cut out due to the enormous reportage of crime incidents in the country. The personnel available to the NPF has been stretched beyond the limit despite the support of other security agencies to curb crimes in the country, and yet it has not yielded the desired results.

The secessionists and nihilists among the population have further compounded the existing security challenges in the country. The meagre and highly expensive trained 350,000 personnel available to fight crimes in the country of about 200 million were being ambushed, maimed, and killed by these heartless and bloodthirsty elements.
Government at all levels and the private sector have been trying to boost the morale of the rank and file through the provision of numerous operational assets to tackle the challenges of crime in society; these efforts have not matched up to the enormous requirement assets that would enable them to perform optimally to curb nefarious activities of the criminals amidst the expanse of land to cover.

Currently, modern-day criminal activities are sophisticated, and those involved are highly creative and educated based on their access to information and communication technology tools. This has translated to evasion of arrest and loss of lives and properties in the country.

Criminal activities no longer have boundaries; it involves many people from different backgrounds, languages, sex, colour, and countries. They are cooperating in groups across the world to defraud, monitor, maim, and kill innocent citizens. This endemic situation is a worldwide phenomenon over which other nations have control through the effective use of data to curb crimes and arrest criminals in their environment. Modern policing predisposes a serious nation to have one single database, which Nigeria has not been able to do previously despite numerous data with various security organizations.

On assumption of office in August 2023, the Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam, observed that there was no adequate collaboration among the law enforcement agencies as they all operate independently in the area of information sharing. All security agencies have individual data that cannot be accessed by the Nigeria Police to curb and arrest criminals.

With the rising security challenges and threats in the country, he identified the strengthening of inter-agency collaboration through the sharing of vital intelligence and classified information to curb the menace.

The game changer is the construction of the National Criminal Data Fusion Centre (NCDFC) by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Police Affairs which is the main deliverable given to the Minister by Mr. President to tackle the security challenges being faced in the country.

The National Criminal Data Fusion Centre (NCDFC), also known as the Data Collection and Registration Centre (DACORE), which is the heart of the progress of the West African Police Information System (WAPIS) is now fully functional. The NCDFC when fully executed will incorporate the existing Data Collection and Registration Centre (DACORE) which is presently operating under the West African Police Information System (WAPIS).

The centre is the hub for the collation of information on criminal proceedings from various law enforcement agencies. The subsequent analyzed information will be shared with relevant agencies and partners as it will significantly enhance our capability to track and neutralize threats.

Similarly, the Data Collection and Registration Centre (DACORE) serves as the epicenter of data collection efforts, consolidating vital information that would empower law enforcement agencies to respond swiftly and effectively to emerging threats.

Within a year, the Minister has facilitated key agencies to fully embrace the WAPIS initiative, while others are gradually picking up. They are now equipped with WAPIS terminals, allowing them to access critical information and significantly enhance the collective efforts to combat crime and maintain security.

Given Nigeria's dedication to capacity building, the Ministry has organized more than six training sessions, some of which were expertly conducted by our national trainers. This investment in training ensures that our law enforcement personnel are not only proficient in using the WAPIS system but are also well-prepared to harness its full potential in safeguarding our nation.

The Ministry knowing fully well the need for cooperation among security agencies organized a three-day workshop on Interagency Collaboration WAPIS with the theme: Interagency Collaboration Among Law Enforcement Agencies in Nigeria with the participation of officers from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF); Nigeria Navy (NN); Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC); Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA); and National Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU). Others are the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC); Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC); Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS); Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC); and the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Person (NAPTIP) as well as Nigeria Custom Services (NCS).

To make the apprehension of criminals in the country seamless, the Ministry has upgraded the existing Nigeria Police Crime and Incident Database Centre (NPCIDB). This has enabled police to document criminals' data through biometrics of criminals from Divisional Police Stations across the country and digitally forwarded to the NPCIDB located in the National Criminal Data Fusion Centre.

The government is leveraging existing facilities to establish the NPCIDB which is domiciled with the Nigeria Police Force and in line with the global practice in many countries that the Police is the custodian and repository for criminal databases and other related matters. NPCIDB has already been deployed in the 36 States and the FCT.

These efforts by the Ministry have enhanced the capacity of the Nigeria Police Force to work with Interpol to apprehend trans-border and local criminals swiftly and accurately based on the digital data available to all security agencies. The Ministry is working with heads of security agencies and his counterparts in the Ministry of Defence, Interior, and National Security Adviser to consolidate the interagency collaboration and most importantly bring the Nigeria Army and others on board to ensure seamless collaboration.

The current report from the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) indicated that crime and criminality have been reduced by at least 65 percent in frequency since the inception of the current administration which is in tandem with efforts of the security agencies including the Nigeria Police Force in the country. Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI), Maj Gen Emmanuel Undiandeye, said this while welcoming participants to the Chief of Defence Intelligence Annual Conference 2024, with the theme, “Exploring the Role of Technology in Strengthening National and Regional Security.”

What remains for the Federal Government is to improve funding of the Ministry of Police Affairs to enable it to implement most of the cutting-edge policies and infrastructures that would enable the Nigeria Police Force to be ahead of criminals in the country.

Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, successfully conducted a fighting patrol in response to a distress call from the residents and vigilantes of Yar Galadima village in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP can report.

The development occurred in the early hours of 1 December 2024 when the troops of Forward Operating Base (FOB) Hanutara were alerted at about 5am that terrorists were attacking the village. The troops responded promptly to provide assistance and restore peace to the affected area.

During the patrol, the troops encountered terrorists who laid ambush at 2 different locations on the approach to the village. The ambush sites were cleared by the troops and some of the terrorists neutralised while others fled.

Additionally, the Air Component Operation Fansan Yamma promptly dispatched aircraft to provide close air support to the troops as they continued their advance to the village while the fleeing terrorists were equally engaged by the aircraft leading to scores of terrorists neutralised.

Operation Fansan Yamma remains dedicated to eliminating terrorist threats in the North West and Niger State.

Remember we are still basking in the prophetic weeks of rewards for all our engagements in the past prophetic season.
Prophetically, GOD has declared to all winners that all through the month of July shall be our harvest of rewards.

A word of assurance. You must keep hoping on until the fullness of our rewards come, that ye be not slothful.
There's nothing anyone can achieve or receive in this kingdom when expectation is lost. When expectation is lost, manifestation is gone. It is crucial for everyone of us if we receive our own rewards in this season that we must keep our expectations alive.

[3] Glory ye in his holy name: Let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD. [4] Seek the LORD, and his strength: Seek his face evermore. [20] The king sent and loosed him; Even the ruler of the people, and let him go free. [23] Israel also came into Egypt; And Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham. [24] And he increased his people greatly; And made them stronger than their enemies. [25] He turned their heart to hate his people, To deal subtilly with his servants. [26] He sent Moses his servant; And Aaron whom he had chosen. [27] They shewed his signs among them, And wonders in the land of Ham. [28] He sent darkness, and made it dark; And they rebelled not against his word. [29] He turned their waters into blood, And slew their fish. [30] Their land brought forth frogs in abundance, In the chambers of their kings. [31] He spake, and there came divers sorts of flies, And lice in all their coasts. [32] He gave them hail for rain, And flaming fire in their land. [33] He smote their vines also and their fig trees; And brake the trees of their coasts. [34] He spake, and the locusts came, and caterpillers, and that without number, [35] And did eat up all the herbs in their land, and devoured the fruit of their ground. [36] He smote also all the firstborn in their land, The chief of all their strength. [37] He brought them forth also with silver and gold: And there was not one feeble person among their tribes. [38] Egypt was glad when they departed: For the fear of them fell upon them. [39] He spread a cloud for a covering; And fire to give light in the night. [40] The people asked, and he brought quails, And satisfied them with the bread of heaven. [41] He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; They ran in the dry places like a river. [42] For he remembered his holy promise, And Abraham his servant. [43] And he brought forth his people with joy, And his chosen with gladness: [44] And gave them the lands of the heathen: And they inherited the labour of the people; [45] That they might observe his statutes, And keep his laws. Psalm 18:1-50 KJV‬
[1] I will love thee, O LORD, my strength.
[2] The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
[3] I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: So shall I be saved from mine enemies.
[4] The sorrows of death compassed me, And the floods of ungodly men made me afraid.
[5] The sorrows of hell compassed me about: The snares of death prevented me.
[6] In my distress I called upon the LORD, And cried unto my God: He heard my voice out of his temple, And my cry came before him, even into his ears.
[7] Then the earth shook and trembled; The foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth.
[8] There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, And fire out of his mouth devoured: Coals were kindled by it.
[9] He bowed the heavens also, and came down: And darkness was under his feet.
[10] And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: Yea, he did fly upon the wings of the wind.
[11] He made darkness his secret place; his pavilion round about him Were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies.
[12] At the brightness that was before him his thick clouds passed, Hail stones and coals of fire.
[13] The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his voice; Hail stones and coals of fire.
[14] Yea, he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; And he shot out lightnings, and discomfited them.
[15] Then the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were discovered at thy rebuke, O LORD, At the blast of the breath of thy nostrils.
[16] He sent from above, he took me, He drew me out of many waters.
[17] He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: For they were too strong for me.
[18] They prevented me in the day of my calamity: But the LORD was my stay.
[19] He brought me forth also into a large place; He delivered me, because he delighted in me.
[20] The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.
[21] For I have kept the ways of the LORD, And have not wickedly departed from my God.
[22] For all his judgments were before me, And I did not put away his statutes from me.
[23] I was also upright before him, And I kept myself from mine iniquity.
[24] Therefore hath the LORD recompensed me according to my righteousness, According to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight. [25] With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful; With an upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright;
[26] With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure; And with the froward thou wilt shew thyself froward.
[27] For thou wilt save the afflicted people; But wilt bring down high looks.
[28] For thou wilt light my candle: The LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.
[29] For by thee I have run through a troop; And by my God have I leaped over a wall.
[30] As for God, his way is perfect: The word of the LORD is tried: He is a buckler to all those that trust in him.
[31] For who is God save the LORD? Or who is a rock save our God?
[32] It is God that girdeth me with strength, And maketh my way perfect.
[33] He maketh my feet like hinds' feet, And setteth me upon my high places.
[34] He teacheth my hands to war, So that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.
[35] Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: And thy right hand hath holden me up, and thy gentleness hath made me great. [36] Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, That my feet did not slip.
[37] I have pursued mine enemies, and overtaken them: Neither did I turn again till they were consumed.
[38] I have wounded them that they were not able to rise: They are fallen under my feet.
[39] For thou hast girded me with strength unto the battle: Thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me.
[40] Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies; That I might destroy them that hate me.
[41] They cried, but there was none to save them: Even unto the LORD, but he answered them not.
[42] Then did I beat them small as the dust before the wind: I did cast them out as the dirt in the streets.
[43] Thou hast delivered me from the strivings of the people; And thou hast made me the head of the heathen: A people whom I have not known shall serve me.
[44] As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me: The strangers shall submit themselves unto me.
[45] The strangers shall fade away, And be afraid out of their close places.
[46] The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; And let the God of my salvation be exalted. [47] It is God that avengeth me, And subdueth the people under me.
[48] He delivereth me from mine enemies: Yea, thou liftest me up above those that rise up against me: Thou hast delivered me from the violent man.
[49] Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, And sing praises unto thy name.
[50] Great deliverance giveth he to his king; And sheweth mercy to his anointed, to David, and to his seed for evermore.
