JAMB 2023: Ekiti Students break record with 342 UTME score

Yusuf Abdul-Mateen Oluwabusayo, a student of A student of AT-TAWHEED Model Schools, Ado Ekiti, broke records with a score of 342 in the just-concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Speaking with KikioTolu, Oyebanji Adeola Yisa, the registrar of the institution, revealed that the student who is a native of Ekiti state scored 96 in mathematics, 61 in English, 97 in Physics, and 88 in Chemistry.

Report showed that the 15 year old student, applied to study Computer Engineering at the University of Ilorin.

Oyebanji Adeola Yisa added that AT-TAWHEED Model Schools, Ado Ekiti was established in the year 2000 with zero tolerance for examination malpractices and the aim of contributing to improved education standards in Ekiti state.

The Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulzarak extolled the National Youth Service Corps on the active 50 years of fostering national unity and development.

Speaking on behalf of the governor of kwara state during the unity walk to commemorate the scheme golden anniversary schedule for may 22 , the Kwara state deputy governor, Mr Kayode Alabi, earlier today hailed the scheme for consistently upholding the unity of the nation over the past 50 years.

He , however, enjoined Corps members to use the NYSC platform to discover themselves and invest in personal development.

Meanwhile, addressing corps members and people at the NYSC secretariat before the rally, Kwara State Commisioner for youth and chairman of the state NYSC Governing Board Hon. Olabode George Towoju applauded the corps members for their tenacity in serving their country even in the midst of difficulty. He further tasked the corps members to further uphold the tenets of patriotism and to continue to be law abiding citizens.

In the same vein, the state coordinator of the NYSC Kwara, Mr Jimba Olawale Chris said that the scheme has come of age . According to him, the scheme has impacted the society in various ways , such Education, primary health care ,etc via the Instrumentality of various Corps Members Community Development Services.

Mr Jimba further said that the scheme would continue to be a veritable platform for the remodeling of the Nigerian youth for national development. By being a Leveler, the Scheme has marched saliently to create balance across the multi-ethnic Nigerian nation.

The state coordinator added that “the scheme has over the years grown to become one of the revered Federal government-established schemes that has done the country proud in all respects. Standing strong as a monolith amongst all platforms of unity and has actively grown into an active agent of unification and national transformation”

It is worthy of note that NYSC was created by Decree no 24 of May, 22 1973, promulgated by the regime of the then head of state, General Yakubu Gowon, “to keep Nigeria one”. The scheme was primarily conceptualized to strengthen the national cohesion and integration, so that the already wounded nation could be more bonded in all spheres.

Ekiti Governor, Biodun Oyebanji has reacted to an accident involving a train and a Lagos State BRT staff bus, Thursday morning, in Shogunle area of Ikeja.

It was learned that the blue staff bus was trying to cross, with the moving train closing in. The train hit the bus and dragged it from PWD Bus Stop to Shogunle, where it stopped.

In an effort to continue to boost agriculture and commercial activities in the rural areas, Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has commissioned 36.9km Wuya Summan-Lemu Road, Gbako local government area of Niger State.

Governor Sani Bello said that with the reconstruction of the road in collaboration with Rural Access and Mobility Project (RAMP) farmers will have easy movement of their farm produce to the markets.

The Governor said that government will continue to prioritise policies that will boost economic activities at the rural areas.

He commended the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Coordinator of RAMP for ensuring the success of the project aimed at uplifting the lives of rural dwellers.

While calling on the people to own the road and not allow heavy trucks ply on it, the Governor appealed to the people living along the road to corporate with those trained to maintain the road so that it serves it purpose.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Yusuf Muhammad Gunu disclosed that the Wuya Summan-Lemu Road project is among the RAMP roads selected for double coated surface dressing by the present administration.

Gunu said that 17 projects are to be commissioned by the governor soon.

The Village Head of Esan, Alhaji Nma Mohammed who spoke on behalf of the benefitting communities appreciated the Governor for the project and promised to protect it.

Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has disclosed that the state government is making progress towards the establishment of the Niger State Renewable Energy Agency.

Governor Sani Bello disclosed this during the lauch of Power Niger and distribution of Home Solar Systems at the Government House Minna.

He explained that clean, safe and renewable energy is trending globally and it is imperative to train people in renewable energy to build technical capacity and have good hands that can maintain streets lights.

The Governor said the state government saw the need to partner with Asolar company in order to enlighten the people especially those at the rural communities on the need to embrace a safe, clean and renewable energy.

He expressed delight that the people at the rural areas have welcomed the idea, thereby making high demands of the solar systems.

According to him, "going forward, we intend to introduce more renewable energy initiatives in the state so as to reduce pressure on the national grid. We intend to grow the base and grow number of beneficiaries across the state".

"We are making progress towards starting Niger State Renewable Energy Agency", he said.

He appreciated the partnership with Asolar and all the MDAs that participated in making the partnership a success while suggesting that an alternative to fire wood should be considered by the company to help address the challenges of indiscriminate tree felling especially in the state.

The Managing Director (M.D), Asolar, Ibrahim Usman said the partnership with the state government has led to the actualization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1,7 and 17 by the Abubakar Sani Bello led administration.

He disclosed that the project is a pilot scheme to commence with the distribution of 3,500 units of solar systems to all the eight local government areas in Niger North Senatorial District before the general elections.

The M.D also said that over 7,000 units of the solar systems will soon be distributed to other Senatorial Districts in the state.

He commended the Governor for his efforts at ensuring that communities in the state are provided with safe energy at a 40% subsidized total price of the products adding that beneficiaries are expected to make monthly payment of N2,000 for three years.

In his remark, Commissioner for Works and infrastructure, Muhammad Sani Lafiya said the project addresses the needs of rural dwellers, who are major contributors to the state's economy.

He appreciated the Governor for supporting the initiative.

The Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger, Mary Noel-Berje has received an award of "Outstanding Media Personality of the Year (2022) from the Federation of West Africa Freelance Association.

The award was conferred her and other awardees in Abuja.

The CPS in her remarks, dedicated the award to God, her boss, Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, and her family for giving her the opportunity to serve which has led to the recognition.

She applauded the organizers for finding her worthy of the award pointing out that she never expected it.

The CPS said the award will spur her to do more for humanity.

Consequent on the recent approval of the perimeter fencing of the NYSC Orientation Camp, Yikpata,Edu LGA Kwara State by the Executive Governor of KWARA State, Mallam Abdulrazaq Abdurahman; The first phase of the project has commenced.

It will be recalled over the years, that the lack of perimeter fencing has been a major challenge to maintaining effective security apparatus on the camp.

It was therefore on this premise that the Kwara State Government, as part of its responsibility in ensuring the safety of lives and property of citizens embarked on the said project .




While inspecting the commencement of the first phase of the project, the State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, Kwara state, Mrs. Francisca Olaleye expressed her satisfaction on the progress of the work so far and applauded the Governor for being NYSC friendly and appreciated him for the support and his positive posture towards the further development of the scheme in the state.

Mrs Olaleye further disclosed that the 2022 Batch C Stream II Orientation Course officially opened on Wednesday,30th November 2022 with about 1600 Prospective Corps Members being expected in KWARA State.

The Management of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti (EKSU), at its meeting held today, 23rd May, 2022, discussed the impact of the ongoing national strike embarked upon by all the four staff unions as it affects the University vis a vis academic and other activities.

In a statement released by Bode Olofinmuagun, the Head, Directorate of Information & Corporate Affairs, the university Management noted the pains being experienced by students and parents as a result of the ongoing protracted industrial action. It noted further that one academic session (2021/2022) of admission is still outstanding, while the second semester of the 2020/2021 academic session is yet to be concluded. Moreover, the admission process for the 2022/2023 academic session will commence soonest.

Consequently, in the interest of the students, parents, guardians, and indeed the society at large as well as the survival of the university, Management decided to reopen the institution for normal academic activities with effect from Tuesday, 24th May 2022.

Joju Fayose, son of former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, has clinched the PDP ticket for Ekiti Central Federal Constituency one.

Joju, who won the party’s ticket for the Ekiti Central Federal Constituency I comprising Ado and Irepodun/Ifelodun, polled 69 votes to defeat Deji Adeosun.

The ex-governor’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, also emerged as the PDP candidate for Ekiti Central Federal Constituency two.

He got 54 votes to defeat his main challenger, Mr. Victor  Babafemi, who scored 45 votes for the position.
