@eddyspice: you dint include your proposed farm location. To minimise cost, you use local feeding materials available in your area. Pigs unlike humans have 15,000 taste buds. That means they can eat virtually any thing. My pigs eats bitter leaf sometimes when I feed them with it. That is the extent of their taste. They eat trees cometimes. They eat plantain or banana tree. Both the leave, the tree and the unripe fruit. They consume all. They even eat pawpaw tree, leave and unripe fruit. Just name the farm or agro industry waste, they will eat it. But you must be mindful of giving them balanced rations too even as they consume those rubbish and funny enough that is what they love the most compared to concentrate feed. You see, I started piggery when I had nothing and theythrived on kitchen waste and other"rubbish" but now things are better and they are on compounded rations. Piggery is a business for a man that has an unstable income or that is jobless. I mean someone not having a payed employment. It is a business for graduates still believing God for good jobs. Pigs eats cocoyam, they eat crab, fish, live animals like snake, snail, they even eat their piglets if care is not taken. Pigs eat concrete, they eat sand, they eat wood and in short they can be destructive. Your location determines your feeding stuffs. |
@eddyspice: Piggery farming is good. It gives you business security. This means that it is very rear before you can loose your capital. In most cases, you will make gain. Unlike poultry that you can loose your investment within 2 days. Pigs don't die easily. They are hardy. Resistant to disease and many lethal conditions. For instance. On my farm 3 weeks ago. A sow(mother pig) attacked a straying piglet(not her own) and knocked her down with force that the piglet fainted. The attendant thought that was the end. The piglet picked up itself and ran away after few minutes. I know that would not be the story if it was another livestock. What I am trying to say is that. Under proper management, you will have less mortality or no mortality atall. Experiencing this brings me satisfaction. Get me? |
Please give me some time. I will make certain explanations here. |
I don't have an idea. To be honest. |
Tosineb: Starting is not a problem. In relation to what you want to do. What materials do you think you may need, and which one do you already have or which one will be easy for you to get. I am not talking of buying now. Reply pls. |
@ op: Femu is right absolutely. Take his Advise. He is good and experienced in piggery. Sorry for your loss, Olorun afi ofo remi . |
Hi, My farm is in owo . Piggery majorly and poultry too. I sell my eggs at poly too. But I travel a lot. Sincerely yours, |
@ Op: Ogami, I hail ooooooo |
@Op: all courses are good depending on who is taking it and what is the person's vision. animal science involves animal husbandry(small ruminant, large ruminant, pseudo/micro ruminant), animal health, animal production as a business, animal breeding and genetics, animal nutrition and pasture management. if you want to be an entrepreneur, this will be a good foundation for you but don't limit yourself to all these. if you are a student of this course, please don't mind majority of the sweet rubbish that your lecturers may be teaching you. its a different ball game when you are out of school. and if you want to practise like me, having the heart of a lion is good but you need the guts of honey badger to survive in a ''world of carnivores'' like Nigeria. all will be well if you want, The Unbeatable. |
@susanifarms: please post your phone number please. |
Susanifarms:I am interested in your pigs. I will like to book 2 females now against when your sow farrows. |

Oga ay: I sent you an sms last weak about piglets for sale and you dint even acknowledge it! Na so e b? |
@ Op: Where are you based in ondo state? |
afonkluvuall:I can help you do a projected cash flow (how much you are likely to spend and earn) but with a location in ondo state as a case study. All you need to do is to substitute the figures for your kwara prices. But it will go for a little fee and I will deliver within 3 working days from your date of payment. Tanks, The unbeatable. |
@ademat7: Be careful. This guy that does a job he can't say freely on a faceless forum like nairaland is worthy of "double trust". Its my 2cents advise o. All the best. The unbeatable. |
@Op: Brb. |
@Op: Good work bro. I am sure you will be rich before your p.o.p. I will be your good customer if you can help me locate and send these farm produce waste. You can send it through lagos bond truck. They include: Corn bran : you can see it in rice mills/farm produce processing places like where they make tuwo. Where the back of maize seed is removed. I think you get me now. It usually falls under the engine, on the ground. It is usually park away and burnt. In this mill, you will see corn/maize waste, rice waste, sorghum waste too. Groundnut cake(GNC), soyabeans cake, cotton seed cake, sun flower meal/cake, rape seed meal/cake, Mind you, cake = meal. It can be used interchangeably. These ones you can get from oil mills. Where people extract oil from these crops locally. Take your time and do good research. I will swell your pocket if you impress me. Shoot me a mail/ whatsapp me if youv got a good news. Regards. |
I will get back to you here. Let me go and look for the man's no in town. The number with me is not going through. |
I know a private cocompany in owo where you can get a tractor. But owo is far from supare. Its like 30 minutes drive. Do you mind? I can try connect you but I don't haave an idea of their charges. |
@ Op: There are only 2 businesses I know he can start in lagos and he will not go down. 1 is transport and 2 is food. Transport. I know there are some registered companies in lagos that all they do is fleet management. You buy your car or bus and you give them and they give you constant returns back but they have their own cut sha. I don't know the percentage o. And I have come about such companies here on nairaland but I can't really give you the name of one now. 2 some lagosians produce or supply food from different parts of nigeria to lagos state. They either own farms or buy in large quantities and cargo it to lagos state and distribute. I know of a man that lives inside lagos bus has a farm in ogun state and he farms catfish and pigs. He is making his money steadily. I have this man's no and he will be willing to help mentor if need be. Apart from all this, anywhere the person has interest, let him explore. *my 2 cents* |
To my friends and followers: Pardon my absence. Its been for good. I will be back soonest. |
onyxtee:Try visit local govt secretariat at ikare. |
Burmak:Which part of ibadan do you live sir? Is there demand for tomato there or you want to produce for another location? How much is one basket of tomato in your place? Which type of tomato has market aCceptance? How manny tomatoes do you think you can get from 2 acres? Where did you want to sell? Do you know how to grow tomato? Any experience with tomato? Why did you choose to grow tomato? I think if you can answer my few questions, you will be gaining more boldness and knowlwdge about your enterprise. An adage says "knowledge is power. |
@Op: As much as you need help, you dint specify what you need. First of all. Its only God that helps people so don't think of a perticular person. As much as God want to help you, he can use anybody, veven animals sometimes. All I am saying is, be sensitive to your environment. Opportunities for your success abounds. You dint make mention of your skills. What can you do? I know you need money to do agric business. What type of agric business? Crop production or animal production? If crop production, which crop, how many acres or hectares are you planning to cultivate If animal production, which animal? How many? How do you want to sell? In what scale ( starting small or big)? These and many more questions are what you will be asked by an "elite helper" So, please, sit back and try to construct a good business you have in mind and you will be able to request boldly. Do you get my point? You don't need money to do all this. You just need to think well and once you know your onions, you will attract the right kind of people. Yours sincerely, The Unbeatable. |
@ Op: Which side/part of ondo state is your wood? Is it tractor you need or agbegilodo? Regards! The Unbeatable. |
emmyz09:Where are you based? |
@Op: Good work. Please put into cognisance, the control of these elephant grasses I am seeing. Kill them early beofre they kill your crops. Don't bother to transplant because they may not survive and please use insecticide once every 7-9 days to reduce insect infestation. All will be well. Regards, The Unbeatable. |
Which local govt would you like sir/madam? |
