@Op : Let me try and help you. In your first post, you said you wanted something that can fetch you cash on your own.(translated). I like first timers or start ups and I enjoy the peopled that mock my contradictory statements. Snailry is not a quick money spiner like poultry or other business. It takes 6 - 9 months or even more for snails to reach maturity. Say 300- 600 grammes. I think what you need is put that 40k into second level agribusiness. (middlemen business). Why don't you retail eggs or distribute eggs? This will make you more active and give you a daily cash flow? What of fruits vending? All you need is a good location that you can even get for free and 40k is a good start. What of pork business. Buy pig, let them kill it for you, you dress and sell in offices. In this you have created work for yourself. Back to snailry. All these people encouraging you will soon vanish when smut invades your pen. Smut is just like the snail but has no shell. You will not notice until your snails remain may be 10. That is when you will evaluate and catch the culprit. That methos you are using invite soldier ants and when there is excessive water, the snails drown! When you give then sugary things, gbosa, you have introduced problems. Waterleaf gives them diarrhoea. Do you know that snails have voracious appetite too? Like pigs? Do you know they eat kitchen waste? Do you know they are cannibalistic? Do you know that snails also loose appetite? Do you know when they hibernate they can die with time? Do you know the water in the intestine of snail when mixed with honey in a certain proportion is the cure for asthma? I am not here to show muscle but please. There are more things behind no 6 that is much more thatn what eyes can catch. If you want cash flow that will catter for your daily living, don't waste your time and money on snails. God bless you. |
@Op : Helping start ups is my delight daily. Where lies your interest in agribusiness? That is where the solution to your challenges start. Your answers will determine what next! |
@ Op: I disagree politely with all above advices. I have done this before successfully. I don't think I will advise you to start snailry. Let me return later to give you some life lessons. Sincerely. |
I have large white cross with Hampshire piglets for sale at my farm in Owo. Ondo state. Any interested buyer should contact me thorough : 08067341873. Price is N4,500 each. |
TheUnbeatable:Catfish business is capital intensive. If you don't have the cash please don't start it to avoid misery. Sorry for replying late. |
oniw9999:Irrespective of how busy I am of recent, I feel like helping you. Can we talk? |
OLAMIMO12:@Op: Let me correct your notion. Nigerian farmers are not selfish for not replying your request. They are just very busy with their livelihood. * laughs* "if you are the one in their shoes nko"? How many "real" farmers can boast of visiting nairaland forum every day? This is the first time I am seeing this your post. So please don't commit falacy of hasty generalisation. Back to your question. You want to supply 10,000 balls of watermelon per week. *laughs* I think this is where people just took a you turn and left your post. My brother/sister. I am not saying it is impossible but where? When? (is it an event or ceremony? And is the ceremony throughout the year? ) My brother, business is never like that o. It's up and down. When you are not the only one supplying watermelon to the town. You will be shocked to see some people because of bad belle, go and supply to your customers too at a ridiculously cheap price just to discharge you and these people don't mind stealing the farm products. Haven't you heared of thieves going in the night and harvesting innocent farmers crops? There are many things involved in this your line of business you need to get acquitted with for you to achieve this feet. Wait gaan, where do you think you want to source such quantity of crops from? Except you want to plant yourself just to make up for weeks of bad market. Infact, your transport cost for sourcing them from farm to farm or village to village will consume your profit margin shapshap. My brother, the business terrrain is not express sir but challenging! I am not saying it is not possible but you must do "super extra thinking and work" to make this a reality. Massive respect. |
@ Op: Turkey business is lucrative but not commonly done commercially. It is a seasonal (xmas) market. Moreover many prefer frozen turkeys. I have reared turkey before commercially and it is better to raise #broiler turkey# ( I mean foreign turkey). You take care of them like broilers chicken and they have good feed to meat conversion efficiency. Many people see turkey as *article of ostentation * ( things you buy to show off) . A matured turkey sales for N15, 000 and above depending on location and bargaining power. Yours sincerely. |
@ Op: *smiles* I like your vision but you will have to actualise it one after the other. I would advise you start the piggery first because the gestation period for piggery business is 2 years minimum. (it means before profit start rolling in for piggery business, it will take you atleast 2 years of running it.) I hope you understand me? For poultry, it takes maximum of 6 months and you will start having sales. Same with fishery too. The decision is yours. Sincerely. |
Sorry, got too busy |
Botanical name : Mucuna spp. |

I can remember "hardware " is part of the signpost. I think you should be able to get it in ibadan (near queens cinema) around oke ado junction after mokola round about. # I hope I am not confusing you with my description # You should get in Lagos too. Sincerely yours. |
oniw9999:You can call me. |
oniw9999:You can call me. |
I will answer your questions. Give me few hours. I am busy now. Sincerely, |
coccinella1888:Busy now. Will reply you soon. |
@Op: What are the crops that neighbouring farms plant? Is it the Ogbese after akure before Uso while heading to Owo or its the Ogbese when going towards ondo town? Anyway, soil test is major. The soil may be fertile but not productive. Many things may be involved. Sincerely, |
To all those looking for businesses with huge ROI. Look agric, think agric. Livestock is huge market. Cash crops/ tree crops is huge market There is room and a level ground for all to play and make profit. Though agribusiness is very challenging and risky but it is still the best because both young and old, rich and poor, healthy and ailing must eat to stay alive. It just involves careful planning and giving room for accommodating unforseen coincidence. Sincerely yours, |
@ Op: Welcome to my city. |
Good morning all, I think I have ample time for advice. Will be back soon. |
You are a good person @ Op. I will suggest you start a piggery for the person. It takes 2 years before the profit comes and the learning curve is not very steepy compared to other animal husbandry. Disease and death of animal is not common and theft is not common too. Other agroventures can build on this foundation as money and experience and connections increase. All these is dependent on community acceptance of piggery enterprise. For instance I can't advice you to do this in core north. I just hope you understand me. Massive respect. |

@Op: I am an agric graduate. What you said is true. Agric is a professional course and that is the edge we have. It's not easy to start private practice because it is capital intensive. As an agric graduate, if you are smart, you will eat and later be rich honestly. It's easy to make it in animal production than crop production as a starter but all well and good, the combination of both with give an upper hand in your financial intelligence. Keep the huzzling spirit alife and create your niche. God bless agric graduates huzzles. Sincerely. |
DaZion:Your location and demand determine a lot in your choice of business. 50k is not too small to start but the continuity is the major thing. Look around again, look at what people do and don't do well and see where you can fit in. Sincerely. |
holycrown7:Check my signature and contact me. |
salsera:Construct |
BluePearls:Starting agric business with loan is very dangerous because agriculture business is risky if not well planned. Apart from that majority of commercial banks don't give agriculture loans and if they do the interest rate is outrageous. Your choice of business is good. Both is less risky but the gestation period for piggery business is 2 years. After that, you can start ripping the benefits. Can you wait? You can start with atleast N50k-100k depending on several factors. |
