The Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) Worldwide, has warned persons and groups agitating for the republics of Biafra and Oduduwa to leave the Ijaw nationality out of their missions. The IYC in a statement signed at the weekend by its Chairman, National Transition and Implementation Committee, Kennedy Olorogun, to mark the Isaac Adaka Boro Day said it would not allow any of the Ijaw territories to be annexed by such agitators. Olorogun said the Ijaw first started the agitation for independence and self-determination through its late hero, Boro, creating the awareness that led to the emergence of similar quests by other ethnic nationalities. He said: “Today, the Ijaw nation is confronted with the renewed quest for nationalism within the Nigerian geopolitical arrangement. This may have compelled other tribes, groups and ethnic nationalities in the country, such as the Oduduwa and various movements championing the Biafra cause to renew their agitation for self- determination. “Whilst the Ijaw nation is not adverse to their cause. The forced annexation and fraudulent redrawing of the geographical boundaries of the Ijaw territories into their dream nations would no longer be tolerated. “We are seizing this medium to inform the promoters and sponsors of the Oduduwa and Biafra republics that they should not include Ijaw territories in their acclaimed nations. The Ijaws are domiciled in Ondo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers and Akwa Ibom states and are prominently resident in all the states of the Niger Delta. “In this wise, the Oduduwas and the Biafra successionists should leave Ijaw territories out of their utopian republics. Ijaws are capable of governing themselves. In this vein, the Ijaw nation are watching the unfolding events within the Nigerian polity, and at fullness of time; the Ijaw nation would state their position”. Olorogun further condemned the influx of the Almajaris from the north into Ijaw territories despite the ongoing closure of borders and lockdowns in various states. He said while the Ijaw remained accommodating to visitors, they were no longer comfortable with the kind of people coming into their territories from the north. He said: “From our findings, their coming may not be far from their jihadic and conquest mission. The Ijaw nation is not a conquered territory. Let it be clear that we can defend ourselves. “Therefore, we are using this historic opportunity to urge the Nigerian State to commence the process of the devolution and unbundling of the Nigerian State; which would enable the sub- national entities to contribute significantly to the growth of Country. “Finally, Isaac Boro’s contributing to the raging debate to restructure the Nigerian Federation would remain indelible. If we want this Country to move on a fast lane of development, making the various states to contribute to national development is inevitable. “Our goal as enuciatiated in the Kaiama Declaration is Self – Determination and Resource Control. We shall not deviate from it. The forced amalgamation of the independent nation- statesof Ijaw nation into an unviable Nigerian project has arrested the huge potentials of the Ijaw people.” https://thenationonlineng.net/count-ijaw-out-of-biafra-oduduwa-says-iyc-2/ |

It may take 2 weeks for your body to get over the illness. That’s the average recovery time for mild cases, according to the World Health Organization. For those with severe or critical cases, recovery can take up to 6 weeks. CDC guidelines say that if you’ve been sick, you should isolate yourself at home until all of these things are true: You haven’t had a fever for 72 hours (3 days) without using a fever-reducing medicine Your symptoms are better, though they might not be totally gone It’s been at least 7 days since your symptoms started OR you’ve had two negative COVID-19 tests 24 hours apart https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.webmd.com/lung/covid-recovery-overview&ved=2ahUKEwj6pdjLzaTpAhUBLBoKHZ7NDloQFjAAegQIAxAB&usg=AOvVaw1XfNhmnPDtvvwjq8h_PzZY&cshid=1588953076658 |

An Ecuadorean woman in coronavirus-ravaged Guayaquil city learned on Friday that her sister was alive, weeks after cremating a misidentified body health authorities had released to her after declaring her sibling dead. Alba Maruri, 74, was admitted to an intensive care unit on March 27 suffering from a high fever and difficulty breathing, and medical personnel told her family later that day that she had died, Maruri's sister Aura said by telephone. A week later, health authorities released what they thought were Maruri's remains to her relatives, who had the body cremated. On Friday, health workers came to the family's home to speak to them. An ambulance arrived with a doctor, a psychiatrist and the social worker. They apologised, and they tell us 'Your sister is alive,' and we were in shock," said Aura Maruri. "It is a miracle of God what has happened." Maruri was suspected to have contracted COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus, but was never diagnosed with it because she was not tested. Her family was not able to visit her until Saturday because of curfew measures enacted to prevent the continued spread of the disease. Aura Maruri says she does not know what to do with the ashes of the body they received by mistake. "I couldn't sleep because I was afraid they would take her (remains) to those containers for the dead," said Maruri, referring to refrigerated containers set up as mobile morgues as the pandemic spread through Guayaquil. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/04/ecuador-woman-learns-sister-alive-cremating-wrong-body-200426080441719.html |
The Chinese city of Wuhan, where the global coronavirus pandemic began, now has no remaining cases of the infection in its hospitals, a health official has told reporters. "The latest news is that by April 26, the number of new coronavirus patients in Wuhan was at zero, thanks to the joint efforts of Wuhan and medical staff from around the country," National Health Commission spokesman Mi Feng said at a briefing. The city had reported 46,452 cases, 56 percent of the national total. It saw 3,869 fatalities, or 84 percent of China's total. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/04/global-coronavirus-deaths-pass-200000-live-updates-200425232324631.html |

US scientists say coronavirus dies the fastest when it is exposed to direct sunlight, though a study cited has not yet been made public and awaits external evaluation. William Bryan, science and technology adviser to the Department of Homeland Security, told reporters at the White House on Thursday that government scientists found ultraviolet rays had a potent impact on the pathogen, offering hope its spread may ease over the summer. "The virus dies quickest in the presence of direct sunlight," Bryan said. "Our most striking observation to date is the powerful effect that solar light appears to have on killing the virus - both surfaces and in the air," he added. "We've seen a similar effect with both temperature and humidity as well, where increasing the temperature and humidity or both is generally less favourable to the virus." It has long been known that ultraviolet light has a sterilising effect, because the radiation damages the virus's genetic material and its ability to replicate. But coronavirus has also proven lethal in warm-weather places such as Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand, raising broader questions about the impact of environmental factors. Bryan warned it would be "irresponsible" to say the warmer summer months will eliminate the virus. But he said that time period would provide an "opportunity to get ahead" of the pandemic. The research cited by Bryan has not yet been released for review, making it difficult for independent experts to comment on how robust its methodology was. A key question will be what the intensity and wavelength of the UV light used in the experiment was, and whether this accurately mimics natural light conditions in summer. Past studies have not found reliable evidence that warmer temperatures and the higher humidity of spring and summer will help tamp down the spread of the virus. Bryan shared a slide summarising the major findings of an experiment carried out at the National Biodefense Analysis and Countermeasures Center in Maryland. On nonporous surfaces such as stainless steel, the new coronavirus takes 18 hours to lose half its strength in a dark, low-humidity environment, Bryan said. In a high-humidity environment, that half-life dropped to six hours, and when the virus was exposed to high humidity and sunlight, the half-life dropped to two minutes, he said. Researchers found a similar effect with the coronavirus that was suspended in the air - simulating the coughing or sneezing that often spreads the disease. In a dark room, the virus maintained half its strength for an hour. But when exposed to sunlight, it lost half its strength in 90 seconds, Bryan said. Researchers also found that isopropyl alcohol was a more effective disinfectant than bleach, he added. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/04/sunlight-humidity-kill-coronavirus-fastest-scientists-200424065853466.html |
