It all began with a small store in Ypsilanti, Michigan, USA. Today, there are more than 10000 Pizza restaurants around the world - including Nigeria! Lagos is the commercial capital of Nigeria and home of variety of pizza stores. Getting good pizza has been an herculean task in some cities in Nigeria -- Owerri is one of them. I would be travelling to Owerri this Christmas, and while I have googled to find out that there is a Debonairs Pizza outlet in the city, I found out another beautiful location called "The Hive" on some blogs. Hello Nairalanders, I have an interest in contributing to the development of our SME sector, and I am currently conducting a research on franchising in Nigeria. Having stayed in the United States (US), and from observations of some other countries, I realised that franchising works well outside Nigeria. I know of a friend in South Africa who has a job and was able to exit into business easily without quitting his job - today he owns a chain of businesses managing franchises of a number of successful brands. Sadly in Nigeria, THE GIANT OF AFRICA!, I have not been able to find anything more than 40 franchise brands, both local and foreign. I started becoming scared, but I summoned up the courage to walk to the corridor. He said if I can’t come in I should go, and that was how I found my square roots. A week later, I got my first internship job and that was what set the pace for my career.
