The South African Army will soon start receiving its new Badger infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) but it is also seeking to replace its trucks and armoured vehicles while modernising some of its equipment, such as assault rifles. “We have made efforts to acquire new equipment form our defence industries and revamp old ones in order to keep our force fit for purpose. The badger Infantry Fighting Vehicle will add new life to our infantry, with manufacturing starting in the 2015/16 financial year,” South African Army Chief Lieutenant General Vusi Masondo told journalists at the annual Army breakfast on Thursday. “The SA Army has streamlined projects aimed at addressing the issue of ageing hardware. The SA Army Air Defence Artillery’s very short-range air defence (VSHORAD) Starstreak missile is one of the many pieces of equipment that our projects are yielding and is currently being used by the ADA [Air Defence Artillery] corps as we speak.” Masondo said that work is underway on R4 upgrades for the Army as part of the African Warrior programme, but other equipment has also been upgraded including the Rooikat armoured vehicle, Olifant main battle tank and SS-77 7.62 mm machinegun. “The SA Artillery Corps is also doing work on its G6 gun. With all these projects aimed at the renewal of our force, we are also trying to expand our footproint in terms of operations that we get involved in domestically and on the African continent in pursuance of continental and regional security.” http://www.defenceweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=35866:army-seeking-to-renew-equipment&catid=111:sa-defence&Itemid=242 |

Many Nairas are posting irrelevant information that has been discredited many times through factual pin point accuracy of facts. The repition of the story is discredited especially regarding the CAR Matter.....South Africa has advance data collection processses and if more than 15 soldiers were killed in Bangui, the free press in South Africa could have reported about. Its very difficult in an open society such as South Africa to hide information and for that matter families of hidden death could have come in the open and disclose...@AUGUSTUS provide accurate source about the real number and stop qouting a rebel commander who will never admit to their actuall number of death....even your Bosses France has acknowledge the proweness of the South African soldiers in that when remains of fallen heroes were flown back, they paid respect by providing a guard of honour. On such matters of comparison is one sided, Nigeria has never fought an actual conventional warfare, hence when BH came to the fore, panick struck the security forces and where scattering around like headless chicken.....Rhinos are atlest being contested with poachers and its unlike a contest for number of casualties sustained by civillians who are left at the mercy of ruthless terrorists

The Nigeria Army has made an unsuccessful attempt to re-claim Gwoza in Borno State from the extremist Boko Haram sect, residents and security sources say. The Nigerian Army 213 Battalion, Operation Task Force Mike and 234 Battalion, based in Mubi, Adamawa state, who engaged Boko Haram members in a fierce gun battle retreated and fled Gwoza town, the residents said. Gwoza has been in the hands of Boko Haram militants for three days now since they first invaded the town, killing over 100 civilians and soldiers. “The soldiers were reported to have been led into the battle by Lieutenant Bayedi Martins and Lt. Colonel Agu of the 234 Battalion, formerly Special Operations Battalion (SOB). They had to retreat when they ran into stiff resistance from the militants as they advanced on Gwoza from Madagali,” said a security source who pleaded anonymity, on Saturday. - See more at: https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/166499-army-colonel-missing-as-nigerian-military-clash-with-boko-haram-in-gwoza.html#sthash.PxKRVlnA.dpuf |
The Nigerian military is in the process of constituting a trial panel to try over 100 soldiers said to have exhibited “acts of cowardice” and “disobeyed deployment directives” in Maiduguri on Saturday, reliable military insiders have told PREMIUM TIMES. The soldiers were among several hundred troops being deployed from the army’s 7th Division in Maiduguri to locations in Damboa and Gwoza for major operations planned to significantly rout the extremist Boko Haram sect from the areas. - See more at: https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/166859-exclusive-nigerian-military-to-court-martial-over-100-soldiers-for-cowardice.html#sthash.vGhW9XP7.dpuf |
Strong indications have emerged that Nigeria’s neighbour, Cameroon, is not cooperating with the country in the efforts to stop the Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria and its borders. Investigations on Friday revealed that the Cameroonian government had issued a directive to all its military commanders in charge of border areas with Nigeria to keep all critical information about Boko Haram away from Nigeria. In the directive which was obtained by our correspondent, Cameroon’s Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation, Mr. Rene Emmanuel Sadi, reportedly told the commanders to withhold crucial information about the insurgents from Nigeria. http://www.punchng.com/news/cameroon-orders-security-agents-to-hide-intelligence-from-nigeria/ |
