Right from that moment, he became a man closely watched. Bola Tinubu was later arrested on June 2, 1994, by the military government of Sani Abacha almost 10 months after he made the comment on the floor of the Senate.

Did you even read the article, I am a Peter Obi supporter but what Atiku is proposing is what I have been crying for
years. Here is what Atiku is proposing and is actually the solution. Price of a barrel of crude oil costs approximately $105 for Brent crude and $100 for WTI crude current exchange rate is N1324 today, so petrol will come out at N1400+.
Now what Atiku will do is create a special price regime just for the local refineries (maybe $60 per barrel) which will be pegged
only for the refineries. So the refineries will get crude from the government at this price. They get the crude and refine it and
then sell to Nigerians, the refined petrol will come out at N700+. So here government gets payment for the crude oil and no subsidy
is paid to any body(Hence why Atiku said it is not an import based subsidy but a production based subsidy).
He can achieve it in 2 ways
1. Legislation is done to peg the price just like the official The pegged oil price—officially known as the budgetary oil price benchmark—is set at $64.85 per barrel for the 2026 fiscal year. Here is where you know the Tinubu government are heartless and wicked.
Understand this: the government has pegged $64.85 as their official price with any excess prices about that price going to
the excess crude account. If Tinubu wanted to reduce the pump price, all he needed to do is to officially peg the same $64.85
for the same refineries and recieve the same from the refineries. With this no single subsidy payment goes to anybody,
only trade off is that the spread ($105 - $64.85) isn't received and then sent to the useless governors to entice them to join APC
and spend for vote buying etc. Instantly Nigerians will start buying petrol cheaper.

While Peter Obi is proposing shifting to a manufacturing state instead of a consuming state, hence bringing more foreign
exchange which will naturally depend the naira against the dollar and gradually bring the naira down from N1324 to N700. This
approach can also work but will take time. Ghana President in his 1st term used this approach and was about to strengthen the cedis
by using the cocoa board to bring it $4 billion yearly , the yearly influx of $4 billion was enough to steady the cedis. Nigerian economy is bigger and will need a massive influx. Reduce the exchange rate to N700 and he can also achieve the same thing Atiku is proposing.
Only difference is that Atiku's policy will be faster and will be felt immediately.
