I've been away for sometime cos i was on leave, but i went to Cotonou end of last month like i said i wud. At one of the parcs i saw over 50 peugeot 406 all in one place, the cars where of different years, mileage and engines but most of them where clean EW10s. I test drove 3 of the 406, at the end i settled for an ultra-clean 2003 406 but was not able to buy it cos we couldnt agree on the price, i could have bought a 2002 model which was much cheaper, but after driving that 2003 model i ddnt want to settle for anythn less, the difference in soundness was very clear. sorry I forgot to take pics to share though. I will be going back soon to get me a FOX, I need a FOX in my life. |

Nigeria: Bonga Oil Spill - Presidency Approves U.S.$5 Billion Fine Against Shell The Federal Government has given approval for the collection of a $5billion worth administrative fine imposed on the Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company, SNEPCo, for the December 20, 2011, oil spill from its deepwater facility, Bonga, despite threats by the company to resist it. The administrative fine, which was prescribed by the National Oil Spill Detection and Remediation Agency, NOSDRA, Vanguard gathered has already been approved by the Presidency after due consideration of the issues involved. The Director General of NOSDRA, Dr. Peter Idabor, in a telephone interview with Vanguard, said, "The recommendation we made that Shell should pay $5billion was approved by Mr President." Idabor explained that the fine had nothing to do with third party shoreline contamination, as being speculated but on account of the impact of the spill on the sea and aquatic life. He explained, "We agree that the sample tests show that the spill did not affect the shorelines, also agree the laboratory analysis on the third party spill agree with their own. But looking into the sea, the 30,000 barrels oil spill impacted about 950 square kilometres beneath the sea bed. So as we speak, there is still a lot of oil at the bottom of the ocean which has not been cleaned up." Shell also liable to pay compensation Idabor added that as investigations into the oil spill, the largest in the recent times, continue, Shell also risked paying compensations if it is determined that the spill has caused additional impact. "Let me note here that this administrative fine is different from compensation, because investigations are still ongoing, and Shell may also pay compensations if we determine more damages." The NOSDRA boss noted that as a result of the spill, the livelihoods of the people in the communities along 120 kilometeres to Bonga have been affected, "due to contamination of the open water, loss of employment as the people are mainly fishermen, and this has also led to the incidence of the migration of the people from these communities in search of fresh waters." Shell clarifies fine SNEPCo had insisted that there was no legal basis for such the $5billion fine, while clarifying media reports of a hearing in Abuja on 16th July, 2012, on the spill before the House of Representatives Committee on Environment, during which NOSDRA disclosed it recommend "an administrative fine" to Government because of the incident. According to Managing Director of SNEPCo, Mr. Chike Onyejekwe, "SNEPCo will challenge any attempt to impose such a penalty, as the company responded professionally and diligently to the incident and worked at all times alongside and with the support of relevant authorities including NOSDRA." Onyejekwe blamed the imposition of the fine on the handiworks of "Some parties alleging that oil from the spill impacted communities, the shoreline, rivers and creeks." While expressing deep regrets for the incidence, he noted that Shell went a step further to clean up even the third party spill, in keeping with its corporate responsibility policy. Amnesty International urges more action But international watchdog, Amnesty International, while lauding the imposition of the fine, urged government to cause Shell to take responsibility for the oil spills that resulted from its operation in the Niger Delta. In an observation by the group's Director of Global Issues, Audrey Gaughran, made available to Vanguard, the group has been in the fore of the campaign to make Shell acknowledge its responsibility for the impacts of oil pollution in the Niger Delta for several years. As part of this campaign, Amnesty International has called on Shell to: •Carry out a comprehensive clean-up of oil pollution and environmental damage in Bodo and all other affected sites, in consultation with local communities. •Support the need for further assessment of oil pollution across the wider oil-producing Niger Delta region. •Pay fair and adequate compensation to all affected communities. http://allafrica.com/stories/201207240066.html No wonder we keep having problems in Nigeria, incompetent people heading govt agencies How can oil stay below water? tell me how, is oil now heavier than water? |

Trac: Basically, what it does is to add an thin enamel layer (polymers) to your already finished paint film. What you see on your car as paint work actually isn't paint but paint-film. This is plastic-bonded. The colour (that is your vehicle's colour) is oil and it can evaporate to some degree leaving it to harden (then break) or oxidise. As of 2007, automotive in paint-coat technology was the use of paint-film. A few years later, I came across a different technology in the bonding of the Camaro. It had something to do with magnets or so (don't quote me on this). This is what differentiates a car when the paint finish is being tested with a tool when you trade-in your car. What the sealants do is to act as protection against the sun and harsh conditions (for instance - high speed driving under hot weather). The hard enamel (acrylic or silicone) takes the brunt instead of actual finish. When you buy a car from the dealership, it is polished and sealed from the production plant. Polish and coating is to be done every year and this detail goes as high as $300+. This is also stated in your owner's manual. If your original vehicle finish is dull, polishing and coating it will not restore its original integrity. You'll have to clay the exterior using a clay compound. This is abrasive but you need a clay compound of very fine "grits" to clay-blast the dull surface off. It's like sand-papering but the purpose is to exfoliate the vehicle's finish in other to favour the brighter and desired colour. After this procedure, polish can be added. Most sealants have polish integrated in them. Apply your sealant and buff.thank you very much, i have already loking at the various rotary buffers, will look for a way to get 1 |
what do u expect? who wan walk under hot sun? |
thanks for all the advise, dnt know much about all this wax, sealant ish, i just came across something called "detailing" dat gives cars extra shine and protects the paint. pls tell me more about sealants, their pros and cons and pls where i can get one in lag. thanks |
please where can i get very quality car wax and sealant in Lagos. thank you |
all4naija: What's in poor practices you don't understand? You are indeed very short-sighted!u ar d one who is short sighted, how do leaks happen, they happen as a result of damage of pipelines, will a company go and deliberately damage their pipeline? NO. If you car breaks down will i say its cos of ur poor practice that it breaks down? No, it could be due too several reasons, which might be beyond your control. |
i dnt understand, d car is not in lag again? |
all4naija: We are talking of the poor practices. Not spillage due to ring explosion. Don't just go there to compare the bad environmental practices indulge by Shell in Nigeria to BP mishap/accident in the Gulf of Mexico. The air pollution in the Niger-delta is enough testament to that.hear urself, who will spend money to get crude out of the ground so he can just discharge it into d environment? Alot of ppl hav so much hatred for IOCs, nd i dnt know why, same ppl keep on praising our clueless govt. u think IOCs ar ran like ur clueless govt? |
whr in lag nd whr ar d pics? |
gbengalite: By contrast, BP is facing a maximum fine of $4,300 per barrel in the US following the Gulf of Mexico spill, when oil had been gushing out of the well into the water at a rate of 10,000 to 30,000 barrels a day for almost a year, resulting in a an estimated leak of 206 million gallons.u are grossly misinformed, u cant even differentiate between a spill and a leak? is there a difference? and who told you it happened last week? before you jump to conclusion read this and judge for yourself, and besides at d end of the day where do the fines go to? Shell angry at $5 bln fine demanded for spill in Nigeria 18 July, 2012, 14:06 Nigerian regulators are demanding Royal Dutch Shell pays $5 billion in fines for environmental damage caused by last year’s oil spill at its offshore Bonga field. Shell says there is no legal basis for the fine. The fine would be the largest Shell has ever received in Nigeria and is about $125,000 for each barrel of oil split in the Bonga field, about 120 kilometers off the coast. The spill which was probably the worst in the area for a decade, occurred on December 20, 2011 and according to estimates less than 40,000 barrels, or 1.68 million gallons were released. "We do not believe there is any basis in law for such a fine. Neither do we believe that SNEPCo (Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Co) has committed any infraction of Nigerian law to warrant such a fine," said the oil company. By contrast, BP is facing a maximum fine of $4,300 per barrel in the US following the Gulf of Mexico spill, when oil had been gushing out of the well into the water at a rate of 10,000 to 30,000 barrels a day for almost a year, resulting in a an estimated leak of 206 million gallons. The National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) said the Nigerian spill was caused by a failure in Shell's export pipe, saying that the spilled oil badly affected approximately 950 square kilometers of water surface and a great number of sensitive environmental resources. "It has a direct social impact on the livelihood of people in the river areas whose primary occupation is fishing," the NOSDRA agency maintained. Shell said last December's an oil spill occurred when a tanker was loading oil, leading to the complete shutdown of the company's 200,000 barrel per day production at the Bonga facility. Bonga accounts for around 10% of monthly oil flows from OPEC member Nigeria, the continent's largest exporter of crude oil. Production restarted in January. Oil spills are often onshore in Nigeria with many caused by sabotage or thieves tapping into easily accessible pipelines. Several communities have taken Shell to court over a failure to clean up spills. A United National Environment Programme report last year said Shell was not doing enough to clean up spills and maintenance of the infrastructure was inadequate. http://rt.com/business/news/shell-angry-over-demands-to-pay-huge-fine-for-oil-spill-in-nigeria-455/ |
i'm i the only one who see that the two of them look very much alike? |
Birmingham: Attacks upon attacks. Buying of cars either in Cotonou or at Berger implies you want fairly/second car. Have you considered to buy cars from Coscharis Motors, Honda Place, Elizader, Briscoe and others? Let us go for quality than quantity.you think its evry1 dat is a govt official like you? |
Emperoh: Forgive me sir, but i am not so knowledgeable about Peugeot engines.Thank you very very much, this is very helpful. |
), I called my mechanic and he's saying my power steering pump has failed and that'd cost me 100k to replace? Is that true? Before I go out and spend unnecessary money money tomorrow.
