Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested 15-year-old Adamu Ibrahim of Jital village along Gombe road for allegedly amputating a farmer’s hand following a disagreement. The suspect was said to have, on several occasions, trespassed into the victim’s farmland while rearing his cows, a development that did not go down well with the victim. A statement by the command’s spokesman, SP Mohammed Wakil, on Saturday revealed that a series of complaints to the suspect’s father by the victim for intrusion into his rice farmland also proved abortive as the suspect continued grazing on the farmer’s land. “The investigation revealed that on the 24th of August, 2023, the suspect, who was armed with a stick and machete, mischievously invaded the victim’s farmland and destroyed the yet-to-be-ascertained value of crops. “A disagreement ensued, in the course of which the suspect stabbed the victim upon asking him to vacate his farmland. As a result, the victim’s left hand was chopped. The suspect drew his machete and chopped off the left hand of the victim. “On receiving this report, the Area Commander, Metropolitan swung into action and activated more preventive measures to avert circumstances that may result in a herder-farmer clash in the area and equally directed the arrest of the suspect,” Wakil stated. He added that the victim has been rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, for medical attention, and he is responding to treatment. https://.ng/2023/08/27/police-arrest-teenage-herder-for-allegedly-amputating-farmers-hand-in-bauchi/

A gunman have allegedly raped a student of the College of Health Technology Student at the Primary Health Centre, Agbarha-Otor Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State. The gunman reportedly also carted away an android phone, ATM and unspecified amount of money from the victim. The incident occurred at about 1:30am, July 24, PM NEWS can report. The gunman allegedly broke into the primary health centre, threatened the student with a knife and gun before forcefully assaulting her. The victim confirmed the incident in a chat with Our Correspondent. She said the incident happened when she was asleep.”I felt this sensation that someone was close to me, as I am not a deep sleeper. Immediately I opened my eyes, and behold a strange person was standing by the bed I was lying in, with a knife and pointing something like a gun at me. I was terrified and scared as he signalled to me with his hand to keep quiet. “He commanded me to stand up and led me out of where we were sleeping at the parlour to where the lady staff was sleeping at the delivery room. “When we got there, he saw the lady lying facing the wall, then he asked me to turn around, which I obeyed because he was behind me and pointing a knife and gun at my head. “He then asked me if there was money in the Health Centre, I told him I don’t know, and he also asked the type of phones all of us were using, then I told him that my android is already with him, but the others have button phones. “He then led me to the matrons office and inside the office, there is a room, he took me there, drop a foam and asked me to lie down or he shot and stabbed me to death, because I was terrified, I obeyed as he directed, and he asked me to pull off my clothes and, at this point, (She paused) he raped me. “After raping me, he asked for my phone password, my ATM password which I gave to him. He then opened the phone and started filming my nude, and warned me that if I should tell anyone, he will send my nude videos viral. “It was like a dream to me because everything happened very fast and there was no one to rescue me. So he led me back to my room, but the surprising thing is that I didn’t hear him open the door or hear any banging of a door. It was after a minute or so that I went to wake my colleagues and narrated what happened to them and the only staff around”. She said the staff immediately put a call through to the matron who lives in Warri, and the matron too immediately called the Chairman of the street where the Health Centre is situated in Agbarha-Otor. “The Chairman came and asked me to follow him to the King’s palace where he said there are vigilantes but when we got there, we didn’t find the vigilantes, so he, (the chairman of the street ) said we should go to the station to report the case. On our way going, we met the vigilantes, and after interrogation they followed us to the station.” The victim is now calling on the Police to investigate the incident and get her justice. “I am calling on the Delta State Government, the Nigeria Police and all other relevant bodies to come and help me. I am traumatized. Since July 24th, I have not been myself. It has not been easy for me because I can’t imagine it as the scenario keep playing in my memory.” The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe is yet to reply to a WhatsApp message sent to him for confirmation of the report. https://.ng/2023/08/27/gunman-allegedly-rapes-student-at-gunpoint-in-delta-cart-away-phone-atm/

The corpse of a 16-year-old girl was dumped inside a well in the Ringim Local Government of Jigawa State. A relative of the victim, who spoke under anonymity, told newsmen that the incident happened at Beguwa village last Saturday. He said the deceased was first declared missing before her body was discovered on Wednesday, four days after the incident, when some farmers on their way to the farm perceived some bad smell. He said with the help of the fire service, security personnel, and good samaritans, the body was evacuated and buried by Islamic rights. Veteran Nollywood actor, Chinedu Ikedieze has revealed that the death of colleague, Ada Ameh broke him and the entire cast of the popular sitcom, ‘The Johnsons.’ PM NEWS recalls that Ada Ameh died on July 17th, 2022, in Warri, Delta State, barely two years after losing her only child, Ladi Ameh. Until her death, Ada Ameh played the role of Emu; the matriarch of the Johnsons’ family in the eponymous series. Speaking in a recent interview with Chude Jideonwo, Ikedieze who played the role of Efe, the first son of the family in the sitcom, said the late Ameh was like a mother to them, stressing that she took her character as a mother in the series off the screen. He said, “It was very hard [for me when I heard that Ada Ameh has passed]. You know, Ada was like a mother. She took that [Emu] character off the screen. Even outside production, I have met her severally outside and people would tell her, ‘See your pikin.’ “So, it [her death] was like losing a part of me. That was the least information or news I wanted to hear. That was the biggest shock of our lives; all of us on ‘The Johnsons.’ It broke us forever. “We suspended production after her death. But I thank God that we were able to calm our heads and find a way forward. You know, losing Ada on ‘The Johnsons,’ we didn’t even believe that the show would still go on because if you mention ‘The Johnsons,’ you must mention Emuakpor. So, it’s difficult to take away Ada’s character, Emu from ‘The Johnsons.’ But I don’t know how it happened that we are still bubbling. It was difficult because we see her everyday, her pictures are in the room. Sometimes you come to location, you see her pictures, people start crying, you know. It is hard. Very hard.” https://.ng/2023/08/20/ada-amehs-death-broke-us-on-the-johnsons-we-suspended-production-chinedu-ikedieze/

Security operatives have arrested a legal practitioner, Barrister Femi Oniyide, in connection with the publication of a malicious story against the Secretary to the Ogun State Government (SSG), Mr Tokunbo Talabi. Oniyide was arrested on Friday at Alagbado, Ogun State, based on a petition written against him by solicitors to the SSG, alleging “Criminal Threat To Life, Malicious Falsehood, Criminal Defamation And Misuse Of Police Connection.” Security operatives have been on his trail for a while but he had been evading arrest. He is presently in the custody of the Force CID Alagbon, Lagos. The publisher of Metro Online, an online platform Femi Davies, who was alleged to be responsible for syndicating the story had earlier been picked up and was released on administrative bail after spending 10 days in the gulag of the Department of State Services (DSS). Another accomplice, Mr Tolani Oluwaseun, fingered as the source of the “fake story” has also been declared wanted, while officials of a commercial bank were invited to explain the circumstances surrounding the release and manipulation of the statement of account of Superflux, a company where the SSG had worked before. Oniyide, in the petition dated July 26, addressed to the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Alagbon, Lagos State was accused of holding a press conference where he accused Mr. Talabi of money laundering and printing of ballot papers. The petition, signed by Adepeju Jaiyeoba, reads: “We are solicitors to Mr. Tokunbo Talabi (hereinafter referred to as ‘Our Client’) on whose behalf we write this urgent petition. “Our Client is the current Secretary to the Ogun State Government, a position he has held since June 2019 and is in that regard, a high-ranking member of the Ogun State Executive Government, a member of the State Executive Council, and the most senior political appointee of the State Executive Government. “Prior to his appointment into Government, our Client was the Managing Director of Superflux Limited, thriving manufacturing company in Lagos State. “On Monday, July 24, 2023, our Client’s attention was drawn to a publication titled: “Legal Practitioner Accuses Ogun SSG of Money Laundering, Ballot Paper Printing’. “The said publication was an explicit report originating from a world press conference held by a certain Mr. Femi Oniyide purporting to be a legal practitioner. The said Mr. Femi Oniyide, at a world press conference convened at Abeokuta based on different stories he read online’ accused our Client of using his former company, Superflux International Limited to syphon monies from the Ogun State Government, engaging in money laundering activities, stealing and diverting COVID-19 Funds, perpetrating illegal activities such as the printing of ballot papers for use in the 2023 general elections and manipulating the printing output to influence the elections in favour of the Ogun State Governor. (A copy of the offensive and blatantly false allegation as reported by an online platform, Oxygist. “On the basis of the said ‘stories’ he read online, the said Mr. Femi Oniyide, went further in his delusional accusation to bewilderingly present a petition invoking the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as well as the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) to investigate our Client for the purported offences. “A careful study of the payment information provided by Mr. Oniyide as forming the bases of his petition will reveal two allegations that centers on the printing ballot papers in respect of the 2023 election which allegedly skewed victory in favour of the governor of Ogun State, Mr. Dapo Abiodun as well as allegations of diverting COVID19 Funds through Superflux International Limited. “For the avoidance of doubt, our Client finds this deliberate falsehood peddled without a shred of evidence by Mr. Femi Oniyide perplexing and extremely disturbing for a lawyer of his status and post-call experience. “Our Client resigned his appointment as a director of Superflux International Limited by a letter dated June 11, 2019. His resignation was subsequently accepted by the board on the 15th of June 2019 and same was filed with the Corporate Affairs Commission. (A copy of the CAC document showing the current directors of Superflux International Limited is hereby attached and marked Document 2.) “On the basis of the foregoing, our Client is no longer involved in the day-to-day operations of Superflux Limited, including the printing, distribution, use, and allocation of ballot papers, a duty which is within the exclusive prevail and discretion of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). In other words, it is impossible for any private company – whether a contractor of INEC or not – to determine what ballot papers will be allocated to any constituency during elections, or to influence the number, quantity, or variety of ballot papers that will be released and used during elections – only INEC can do that. “Further, Mr. Femi Oniyide claims that these so-called facts were revealed during the sitting of the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal. That is false in its entirety. The Petition that is pending before that Tribunal does not include any allegation against Superflux Limited and all the witnesses who have been presented in the proceedings – 84 as of Friday July 21, 2023 – never made any allegations against Superflux Limited. In fact, none of them alleged manipulation of ballot papers. “It is the position of our Client that the press conference and subsequent dissemination of Mr. Femi Oniyide’s spurious petition through various news website cannot be the standard and expectation of our criminal justice system. We state further that the culprit despite his inability to establish or present any documentary evidence against our Client and in flagrant abuse of the criminal justice system have in his malicious libelous activities reported his unfounded allegations to various police formations and investigative agencies. “Based on all the above, we hereby urge you to use your good office to investigate our complaint as this case was reported against the culprit for investigation of the allegations and for possible prosecution to serve as deterrent to others. We thank you for your anticipated swift response and action.” https://.ng/2023/08/20/fleeing-lawyer-nabbed-by-police-over-alleged-defamation-of-ogun-ssg/

The Petroleum Product Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has said the statement credited to the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) that there is no plan to increase petrol prices despite the fall of the naira against the dollar is shocking. It said it would be dramatic for marketers to believe the price of petrol will not increase following the harsh realities of the exchange rate. Rivers State Chairman of PETROAN, Francis Dimkpa, in an interview with newsmen, said PETROAN is watching and gradually following the policies of the government, with the belief that the refineries will become functional for the situation to stabilize. He assured that the association’s members will continue to distribute petrol across the nation and at the best price despite the exchange rate. “It is actually going to be dramatic for us to believe that the price of fuel will continue to be stable. “Federal Government and NNPCL saying that the price of fuel will no longer go up or will no longer come down, we do not understand the meaning of that statement. “Petroleum Product Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria is watching closely at the effect of exchange rate at the price of fuel, and now that the price has been pushed to N600, we expect that the falling of the exchange rate, it might drop or the rising of the exchange rate, it might get higher,” he said. Reacting to NNPCL’s statement about no plans to increase the price of fuel, in what appeared to be price fixing for other marketers, despite being a private limited company, Dimkpa stated that NNPCL remains the leader in the industry and can drive the price of petrol. He added, “NNPCL may not be said to be fixing the price of fuel, but from our own point of view, NNPCL is like the leader in the industry, and so, NNPCL has what it takes to decide or drive the price of fuel. “They are not fixing price, but they are driving and directing the price of fuel.” PETROAN has repeatedly reiterated that the only solution to the crisis caused by the removal of fuel subsidy is for the four refineries in the country to start operation https://.ng/2023/08/18/itll-be-dramatic-for-marketers-to-believe-petrol-prices-wont-increase-petroan/
