PoliticsNigerian Govt Denies Relocating Federal Capital To Lagos by Thonyb2(op): 10:22am On Jan 25, 2024
The Federal Government says it is not planning to relocate the Federal Capital from Abuja to Lagos State.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, who said this in a statement in Abuja, added that the relocation of some departments and parastatals from Abuja to Lagos was for administrative convenience and better service delivery to Nigerians.

“We consider it necessary to inform Nigerians that there is no iota of truth in the interpretations given to the directives in some quarters and the unfounded claims and rumours that President Bola Tinubu is planning to relocate the Federal Capital back to Lagos.

“These rumours, which first surfaced during the electioneering last year, were sponsored by political opponents looking for all manners of weapons to prevent Asiwaju Tinubu from being elected as president by a section of the country,” he said.

.ng recalls that the Federal Government had announced the relocation of the department of Banking Supervision of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to Lagos State.

Similarly, the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development is moving the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to its office in Lagos State.

The decision was received with mixed reactions from different sections of the Nigerian population who saw it as a hidden agenda to relocate the seat of power back to Lagos State.

“Those behind this renewed sordid narrative, using the recent decision of the CBN and FAAN as pretext to start another round of toxic opposition are dishonest ethnic and regional champions, trying to draw attention to themselves.

“The status of Abuja as the Federal Capital has come to stay. It is backed by law,” Onanuga said.

According to him, the movement was for administrative convenience because Lagos is the commercial capital and the hub of aviation business in Nigeria.

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State, on Wednesday, visited the Nabeeha Alkadiriyahs’ family in Abuja whose kidnapped children were released by their abductors after payment of ransom.

During the visit, the governor spent some time and interacted with the girls who recently regained their freedom from the captors.

In a personal statement released, governor Abdulrazaq said, “I am impressed to see them in high spirits and responding well to their therapies, clearly unbowed to whatever that had happened, and very positive about the future which I’m certain will be better and brighter for them.

“To their parents, whom I had earlier met when the girls were in captivity, I doff my hat for your calm and bold efforts to confront the situation with patriotism and hope in the Almighty. That has greatly paid off.”

He expressed his hearty condolences for the sad loss of Nabeeha and her uncle in the unfortunate circumstances.

“God will comfort the family now and always.

“I trust that the security agencies will hunt down whomever was involved in that incident and similar others; they will not go unpunished.

“We are too strong as a people to bow to the few cowards who target innocent citizens in their nefarious activities,” the governor added.

.ng recalls that the children were abducted in Abuja recently and released after a huge ransom was paid, though two persons lost their lives in the process.

PoliticsUS Secretary Of State Visit: Shehu Sani Lists Things Tinubu Should Tell Blinken by Thonyb2(op): 2:35pm On Jan 23, 2024
A former federal lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has set agenda for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the proposed visit of the United States Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken.

Blinken is billed to meet Tinubu and Ivory Coast President, Alassane Ouattara on Tuesday in a bid to forge a united front with key African democracies.

In Abidjan, Blinken will meet Ouattara, a veteran leader, who has won US praise for strengthening democracy, before heading to Abuja to see Nigerian Tinubu.

Writing on X, Sani, who represented Kaduna Central District in the 8th National Assembly, listed five areas Tinubu should focus on when meeting with the American politician.

“When the US Secretary of State, Blinken visits Nigeria, our President should use the opportunity to tell him the following truths; that Nigeria is unambiguously opposed to the Israeli genocidal activities in Gaza and we want an immediate ceasefire and end to the occupation of the land of Palestine.

“That the US should end all arms restrictions against our country and support our war against bandits, terrorists and kidnappers.

“That the US should end all sanctions against Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger Republic and other West African countries and support ECOWAS’ peaceful efforts to democratic transitions.

“That the US should pay reparations to Nigeria and other African and Caribbean countries for their centuries of Trans-Atlantic slave trade and exploitation.”

PoliticsRivers: APC Asks Gov Fubara To Conduct LGA Election by Thonyb2(op): 2:16pm On Jan 20, 2024
The Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Rivers State, Tony Okocha, has called on the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to conduct local government elections as required by the constitution.

Okocha, who made the call while addressing journalists after a visit to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, by members of the Inter Party Advisory Committee, IPAC, in the state on Thursday, noted that the tenure of the serving LGA chairmen is due to elapse in a few months.

He said the APC is ready to contest the LGA election.

Okocha said, “I thought that I should also use this opportunity to call on the Rivers State Government to add to the calls that we have made for an election to be conducted because the constitution allows for an election after a certain period of time.

“And the tenure of the serving councils today will expire in a few months and of course the process has to be put in place because the law also says there should be reasonable time for the advanced notification of parties for the election.

“And we want to use this opportunity to let the governor know that it is not business as usual.

“In fact, the Supreme Court has made a pronouncement that the use of caretaker arrangements in local governments is an aberration.

“We are not going to boycott elections this time around; it was a mistake that was done before, it will never happen again.”

He expressed confidence in the RSIEC, led by Adolphus Enebeli, a retired Justice of the Rivers State High Court.

PoliticsTinubu, DSS, Nuhu Ribadu Know How To End Insecurity In Abuja – Adebayo by Thonyb2(op): 6:43am On Jan 20, 2024
The 2023 Social Democratic Party, SDP, presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has said President Bola Tinubu, the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services, DSS, can end the menace of kidnapping in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

He lamented that the federal government has failed in protecting the citizens, which is its primary responsibilities.

Posting on X, the former presidential candidate wondered why Nigerians continue to suffer in the hands of bandits and kidnappers.

Adebayo said: “As we bemoan and dread bandits and kidnappers, we must bemoan and suspect our government more. It is the duty of the government to stop criminality.

“If @officialABAT, @NuhuRibadu, @PoliceNG and @OfficialDSSNG want to end kidnapping today, they have all it takes. Government is in on it.”

Lately, bandits had attacked and abducted some residents in Bwari Area Council of the FCT.

Similarly, gunmen on Thursday night invaded Hilltop Phase 2 Extension of the Nigerian Army Post-Housing Estate and abducted the wife of a popular lawyer, Barrister Cyril Adikwu and two others.

.ng gathered that the heavily armed men invaded the area around 9 pm, shooting sporadically to scare residents.

Despite military presence in the estate, the kidnappers whisked the victims away.

PoliticsNo Project Will Stop Under Tinubu Govt – Wike by Thonyb2(op): 6:46am On Jan 19, 2024
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has assured that no project would stop under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Wike expressed hope that some of the ongoing projects would be completed and commissioned by Tinubu before December 2024.

The minister disclosed this after an inspection your of some projects across the FCT on Thursday.

He said: “Since President Tinubu came on board, no work has stopped in all the sites. There are so many of these sites, but it will be difficult to take them all at the same time.

“We believe that after May, and before December, some of the projects will be handed over to the members of the public.

“The inspection is part of our routine inspection of ongoing projects, particularly those we have promised the public that God willing, by May this year, the projects will have been completed.

“What we did today was to go round to see for ourselves whether the contractors are meeting up with expectations.”

PoliticsWike Warns Politicians In FCT Not To Obstruct His Work by Thonyb2(op): 5:39am On Jan 19, 2024
The Minister of Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has vowed not to take it lightly with politicians obstructing ongoing government projects.

Wike said his mission is to protect the public interest and not massage the selfish egos of politicians.

He spoke while lamenting the decision of a House of Representatives member to obstruct an ongoing project in the Guzape District of FCT over personal gains.

While inspecting some ongoing road projects at Guzape Lot 2, being handled by Gilmour Construction, and Roads B6 and D12 along Constitution Avenue, handled by Julius Berger Construction, Wike said the lawmaker ordered a stop to the project without due process.

“We are not going to take it lightly. This is not a private project; it is a public project, handled by the Federal Capital Territory Administration.

“If there is any complaint, we think that whoever is responsible should complain to us and not go and use the police to stop a legitimate company from constructing work for the use of the public, which was approved by the Federal Executive Council.

“We have directed the contractor to go back and make sure they don’t heed that so-called stoppage. They must go back and complete the work, which we are expecting that Mr President will commission in May,” Wike said.

Politics‘You Promised To Handle Security’— Peter Obi Reminds VP Shettima by Thonyb2(op): 10:32am On Jan 17, 2024
The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, has asked President Bola Tinubu to fulfil his campaign promises to Nigerians by tackling the rampant insecurity in the country.

Obi, who, on Tuesday, expressed deep concern over what he described as a surge of violence spreading through the Federal Capital Territory, warned that no foreign investor or partner would like to invest in Nigeria, given the situation the country has found itself in.

According to him, the recent killings of two abducted young girls in Abuja made it more depressing, stressing that it is now time for the leaders to take all forms of serious measures to tackle the situation.

In a statement issued on his X handle on Tuesday, the former Anambra State governor lamented that insecurity worsened under the past administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, who campaigned and won the elections with the promise of tackling security, the economy and corruption.

“As terror attacks, banditry, kidnappings and violence continue to rage through the country, it is more concerning now with the surge of violence spreading through the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

“The recent killings of two abducted young girls in Abuja make it more depressing and urgent. It is now time for we, the leaders, to take all forms of serious measures to tackle the situation. It is unfortunate that President Muhammadu Buhari, in 2015, campaigned and won the elections on three items; Security, Economy and Corruption (SEC).

“After his eight years in office, the situation has worsened in all three areas. The present administration, on assuming office, promised to deal decisively with the same situation – Security, Economy and Corruption. Today, however, the situation is getting even worse than ever.

“At the Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association held in Lagos in August 2022, the then Vice Presidential candidate, Sen Kashim Shettima, categorically stated that if APC is elected, he as Vice President would be in charge of security, while the President as an expert in economy would handle the economy.

“Nigerians, therefore, now implore them to fulfil their campaign promises. Even if they do not achieve 100% results, we want to see 100% effort.

“It is now time to stop all forms of foreign trips from people in government until we deal with the ugly situation facing us at home. No foreign investor or partner will like to invest in Nigeria, with the situation we now find ourselves in.

“We must make sincere efforts to end the spread of violence and insecurity in our nation in order to make any meaningful progress.”

PoliticsFCT Teachers Strike: Wike Blames Area Councils’ Chairmen by Thonyb2(op): 3:19pm On Jan 16, 2024
The FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike, has blamed Chairmen of the six area councils for the ongoing strike by primary school teachers in the territory.

Wike, who addressed journalists in Abuja on Tuesday shortly before a close door emergency meeting with security agencies and the Chairmen, said the local council officials have not lived up to their responsibilities.

The FCT wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers on Sunday directed primary school teachers to proceed on an indefinite strike from Jan. 15.

The strike is a continuation of an earlier one suspended by the union in 2023 over non-payment of 40 per cent Peculiar Allowance and 25 months minimum wage arrears, among other issues.

The NUT suspended the strike on Oct. 2, 2023, to allow for the resolution of the issues within six weeks but nothing was done.

The minister has now blamed the lingering strike on the Chairmen and urged them to be more alive to their duties.

“Recently the NUT has embarked on strike; it is not because of our fault, it is the Councils’ Chairmen’s fault because primary schools are under the purview of the area councils.

“Again, it will look as if the ministers are doing nothing, but that is not our responsibility,” Wike said.

He, however, said they could not afford to fold their hands over the strike, adding that he had invited the striking teachers for a meeting to resolve the problems.

“Council Chairmen should know that they must wake up to their responsibilities,” the minister added.

PoliticsInsecurity: Do Not Panic – Wike Tells Abuja Residents by Thonyb2(op): 1:17pm On Jan 16, 2024
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says the FCT Administration is taking steps to address security challenges affecting some sections of the territory.

Wike gave the assurance while addressing journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, before a closed-door emergency meeting with security agencies and other critical stakeholders in the FCT.

There has been a spike in the abduction and killing of residents by bandits, especially in Kuje and Bwari Area Councils.

The minister, who acknowledged the challenges, urged residents not to panic, as the government has taken measures to address the ugly situation.

“All of us are aware of the security situation in FCT, particularly in Bwari and some other areas where we have witnessed security challenges.

“Yes, I am aware that sometimes too, the press overblows what is happening but all of us are concerned and we owe a duty to make sure that FCT is safe.

“We will do all we can, and we assure Nigerians who reside here that there is no need for panic. We are taking every step to make sure that the challenges are resolved,” he said.

The minister explained that the meeting was to assess the security challenges in the FCT and adopt practical solutions.

He said the meeting was expanded to include the Chairmen of the six area councils because they also have a responsibility to ensure peace and security in their areas.

“So, we will put our heads together to come up with solutions; we are not sleeping, the security agencies are not sleeping, we will provide every support that they require to allay the fears of the residents,” he said.

PoliticsSupreme Court Judgement: Gov Yusuf Lauds Tinubu For Refusing To Interfere by Thonyb2(op): 3:17pm On Jan 13, 2024
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a courageous leader who shunned a series of pressures to interfere in the governorship elections judgement in the Supreme Court.

Yusuf noted with great pleasure how Tinubu and his Deputy, Senator Kashim Shattima, refused to interfere in the apex court judgement despite stiff pressure from disgruntled quarters.

Governor Yusuf, who was referring to efforts by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje to allegedly use the Presidency to influence the Supreme Court judgement in favour of his All Progressives Congress gubernatorial candidate, Yusuf Gawuna, said the insistent refusals of Tinubu and his Vice Kashim Shettima shows that Nigeria is truly in good hands.

Similarly, Yusuf extended hands of friendship to his arch-opponent, Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the APC gubernatorial candidate who lost in the Supreme Court, saying it is time to build Kano as politicking is now over.

He said now is the time for everybody, regardless of party platforms, to join hands with his administration to move Kano forward.

He said, “As a true democrat and progressive, I called on my opponents and their supporters to join hands with me in the crusade of developing our dear state Kano for the betterment of its citizens.”

“People of Kano needs leaders with vision, passion, zeal, and commitment of initiating projects, policies and programmes that have direct bearing to their lives in all facets of human endeavors, as such the APC Gubernatorial Candidate, Mallam Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, should join hands with me to make Kano proud.”

The governor, who commended the Kano people for their support, steadfastness, prayers, sacrifices and brevity in affirming what they have elected, and the Supreme Court Judges for upholding the glory of the Judiciary, also thanked God for giving him the highest support.

He also appreciated NNPP leaders at all levels particularly the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Sen. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, for his guidance and support during the trying period.

PoliticsBetta Edu: Billions Stolen Daily But No Money To Fund Education – Shehu Sani by Thonyb2(op): 9:52am On Jan 10, 2024
Former lawmaker and social critic Senator Shehu Sani has expressed displeasure with the manner in which political leaders loot the national treasury.

Sani said few individuals in government positions were daily stealing billions of naira while the education sector suffers.

The statement followed allegations of financial misappropriation in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development.

.ng reported that the duo of ex-minister Sadiya Umar-Farouq and now suspended Minister, Betta Edu, have been interrogated by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, concerning the matter.

Sani decried the fact that tuition fees were “callously” increased in the public universities and polytechnics because “there is no money to fund public tertiary education,” when billions of Naira were being stolen by a few individuals.

He wrote: “Every day new revelations of billions stolen by few individuals; and Tuition fees are callously increased in our public universities and polytechnics because “there is no money to fund public tertiary education”.

PoliticsTinubu Took Risk Making Me FCT Minister – Wike On Appointment by Thonyb2(op): 1:21pm On Jan 08, 2024
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has said President Bola Tinubu took a lot of risk appointing him minister.

Wike said people protested against Tinubu’s decision but the president “stood his ground.”

He spoke in his country home, Rumueprikom in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the Rivers State.

The immediate past governor of Rivers State said he’s more concerned about playing politics of unity in the state.

According to Wike: “Let’s move forward for the interest of the state. That is important. I took the decision and you listened to me.

“I want you to also listen to me now. Let’s accept what Mr. President has said. It is in the interest of Rivers and Nigeria in general.

“It may not be the best but there is no option. Mr. President took a lot of risk to give me the position of Minister of FCT. People protested but he stood firm. If he could do that, you too should accept his decision.

“When we came back from Abuja, within the next 48 hours, the speaker and his people took the decision to obey Mr. President without attaching any condition. I thank Mr. Speaker and other members for respecting Mr. President.

“Whether you are APC or PDP or you don’t belong to any of the parties, we owe a duty to give Mr. President support to move this country forward. Some people said I betrayed PDP, but I never betrayed PDP.

“We stood firm and told Nigerians we wouldn’t do this if this were not done. So the issue of betrayal doesn’t arise”.

PoliticsRivers: No Regrets Making Fubara Governor, I Bought His Nomination Forms – Wike by Thonyb2(op): 11:27am On Jan 08, 2024
Amid the lingering political crisis in Rivers State, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has said he had no regrets about making Siminalayi Fubara governor.

Wike said the decision to make Fubara governor was made to ensure unity in the state.

Speaking at a New Year luncheon he organised in his country home, Rumueprikom, in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the Rivers State on Sunday, the minister said he and some leaders of the state picked and worked for Fubara’s emergence.

The immediate past governor also recounted buying nomination forms for Fubara and others who contested on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state.

According to Wike: “Those who open their mouths to talk don’t know anything. I was the one who paid for the forms for anybody who wanted to run for elections as governor, House of Assembly and National Assembly. Let one person raise his hand and say he bought forms.

“We say we are all family members with no need for acrimony. Don’t spend your money, we will agree on who will run. The day we made the final decision, the Chairman of the elders’ council nearly collapsed.

“He is here. OCJ Okocha was there, Awuse was there. Omehia was there. He nearly collapsed. Why? He wanted a governor from the riverine area.

“When I looked at him, I said, ‘Why will I allow this old man to just die.’ I say let’s not create the impression that there are people who want to monopolise power.

“Let’s allow everybody to be part of it because we belong to one Rivers State. If I had wanted, nobody would have stopped me. Nobody had what it takes to even be near me.

And to God be the glory, I don’t regret what I did and I will never regret what I did because I want the unity of this state for us to forge ahead. If I wanted an Ikwerre man, nobody would have stopped me”.

PoliticsAccountant Gen. Distances Office From Minister Edu’s Illegal Transfer Of N585.2m by Thonyb2(op): 7:37am On Jan 07, 2024
The Accountant General of the Federation, AGF, Oluwatoyin Madein has distanced herself and her office from the illegal transfer of N585.2 million to a private account by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Betta Edu.

The Minister has been enmeshed in criticisms for flagrant violation of Nigeria’s Financial Regulations 2009, which emphasises separating public and personal money in government transactions.

According to Nigerian laws, “Personal money shall in no circumstances be paid into a government bank account, nor shall any public money be paid into a private account, Minister Edu clearly violates this section”, the AGF’s office said.

The law further reads, “Any officer who pays public money into a private account is deemed to have done so with fraudulent intention.”

Clearly, the law stipulates this to prevent fraud in government-related business.

But in violation of this popular position of the law, Mrs Edu transferred over half a billion into a private account.

Defending the act, Mrs Edu, through her media aide, Rasheed Zubair, last Friday, said the payment of the N585.2 million into a private account is legal in the country’s civil service even though .ng has not been able to establish the section of the law the minister is relying upon.

In his statement, Zubair said, “It is legal in civil service for a staff, the project accountant, to be paid and use the same funds legally and retire same with all receipts and evidence after the project or programme is completed,”

Reacting to the matter, the Accountant General of the federation through her Director of Press, Bawa Mokwa, explained that her office does not make payments on behalf of any Ministry, Department or Agencies of government for projects and programmes implementation.

She added that allocations are released to self-accounting MDAs in line with the budget, and such MDAs are responsible for the implementation of their projects and payments for such projects.

She further explained that, although her office received the said request from the Ministry, it did not carry out the payment.

However, the Ministry was told the appropriate steps to take in making such payments in line with the established payment procedure.

“In such situations, payments are usually processed by the affected Ministries as self-accounting entities and no bulk payment is supposed to be made to an individual’s account in the name of the Project Accountant.

BusinessHow To Protect Google Accounts Against Hackers – Ex-minister Advises Nigerians by Thonyb2(op): 7:59am On Jan 06, 2024
Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami has identified ways Nigerians can protect their Google accounts from hackers.

Pantami disclosed this via his X handle on Friday amid a discovery that hackers could access Google mails without having to use users’ passwords.

An analysis from a security firm found that a dangerous form of malware uses third-party cookies to gain unauthorised access to people’s private data.

However, Google said it is currently in the process of cracking down on third-party cookies.

“We routinely upgrade our defences against such techniques and to secure users who fall victim to malware. In this instance, Google has taken action to secure any compromised accounts detected,” it said.

Meanwhile, reacting to the development, Pantami stated that Google account users in Nigeria should be careful in accepting “cookies” unnecessarily.

He added that Nigerians should be cyber smart, noting that Google users can protect accounts by “signing out” on an affected or suspicious device.

“Hackers use the process of accepting cookies as displayed when you are browsing. Ordinarily, cookies are beneficial. However, be careful in accepting “cookies” unnecessarily;

“Google acknowledged the vulnerability and challenges associated with it and said it was cracking down on third-party cookies;

“Remember, Google Chrome is the world’s most popular web browser, with a market share of over 60 per cent last year. As a result, there is so much attention to it. Be cyber smart, please.

“You can also protect your accounts by ‘signing out’ on an affected or suspicious device.

“Users can continually remove any malware from their smart devices and enable ‘enhanced safe browsing’ in Chrome to protect against phishing and malware downloads, among others;

“Remember, we have over 1.8 billion Gmail users globally. Almost 24 per cent of the world population patronises it. It has many benefits, including the security control protocols, and your email is safely stored in the cloud;

“Finally, always remember that no system is 100 per cent secure in the world. Always be cyber smart”, he said.

Nigerian singer and songwriter Sadiq Onifade, popularly known as WurlD, has explained why he gave Davido his song, ‘Blow My Mind’.

He said he wrote the song which Davido released with American R&B star Chris Brown in 2019.

I was in Lagos promoting my project, ‘Love Is Contagious’, and I got a call from my guy, producer Shizzi… It was even one of those things I didn’t plan for because I was gonna use the song myself. I wanted to get some features on the record, but I was promoting a new project, and I didn’t have time.

PoliticsCOP28: PDP Knocks Tinubu Over 1,411 Entourage To Dubai Amid Hardship by Thonyb2(op): 9:37am On Dec 04, 2023
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has knocked President Bola Tinubu over what it termed “over-bloated delegation of about 1,411 individuals to the Conference of the Parties (COP28) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates”.

Reports earlier emerged that the President was accompanied by 1,411 Nigerians to the UAE event.

The report had triggered anger across the country as Nigerians accused the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government of being insensitive to the plight of Nigerians.

Reacting, PDP in a statement issued on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba held that the development further validated insinuation that “the Tinubu-led APC administration is wasteful, frivolous and reckless in the application of the scarce resources of the nation, especially at a time Nigerians are yearning for prudent management of resources to achieve the desired infrastructural regeneration, job creation and revamping of the economy”.

The main opposition party questioned why a country “whose citizens are dying daily from inability to purchase necessities would be willing to fritter its resources and scarce foreign exchange in such a manner.”

According to the PDP, Tinubu’s action of conveying number of individuals to the event, only “points to the fact that this administration is not interested in the good of the generality of our citizens but for a select few positioned to fleece the nation’s resources”.

The party challenged the Presidency to “come clean by making public the names of the official delegation sponsored by the Federal Government to the conference”, stressing that the relevance of such individuals to the conference and the total cost of such sponsorship on the nation should be revealed.
