They are scared of letting go the legacy system bequeathed on them by the former colonialist. The Nigeria security system is a relic left by the former colonial masters to serve their interest only.

The only difference then and now is that the elite has taken over the legacy system and is scared of letting go because it serves their interest just fine. Lol

Then they make these silly excuses why they can't let it go to Nigerians, their supporters swallows it hook line and sinker and propagate same. It is brutal out here.

State police will create more avenue for state governor to misbehave, the same way they mess up state electorial commission, tho it will create more employment opportunity but it won't curb the challenges we are facing, my opinion.
I believe this is same excuse the IG is giving the he failed to enumerate. I will call it Horseshit...create modalities, limits of state Government power, consequences for breaches for the rules it was first established like political witchhunt and all... Look if we want to get it right, we would.

I wont be surprised if he becomes proponent of state police when he retires from the police, they are mostly like that.
President Tinubu was once a proponent of the retention of fuel subsidy when he was an opposition but now that he's the president he suddenly sees the need to do away with it.

Well, surprise! suprise! Mr. Egbetokun, Nigerians take every info coming from you lots with 'a grain of salt'. It is surprising you guys dont get the memo, nobody trust y'all...there's a huge disconnect between the Government and the Governed.

So it's only the presidency that is mature enough to call the shots. Continueeeee. I see this as colonialism.

Well, it is not for you to decide, we Nigerians will decide when the times comes.

undecided

When some of us asked why Nigeria couldn't successfully run refineries like the Saudis, Norwegians and Russians do, we were attacked by those who said government has no business in business. We were told that government should focus on its core functions.

Ok. Fair enough. Focus on core functions, right?

Security is one of those core functions. In the last 1 month close to 400 souls have perished - some in mistargeted drone strikes by the Nigerian army...and the rest in a 48 hour killing spree by attackers who have escaped without a trace. Not a single one of the assailants in the Plateau massacres was captured or killed. Does that make any sense?

Some of us pointed out that the very reasons why Nigeria cannot run refineries is the same set of reasons it will not be able to secure lives and property. It is the same set of reasons why Nigeria cannot build schools, roads or hospitals. It is the same set of reasons we cannot balance our budgets (or heaven forbid, record a budget surplus). It is the same set of reasons why the Nigerian government just doesn't work, no matter what it puts its hand to.

Now we have some military 'generals' undecided blaming the terrain for their abysmal failure to carry out their constitutional duty. Is this terrain in another country? huh The military failed the people of Plateau when they needed them most. They failed them and they failed them totally. Almost 200 souls gone in an orgy of violence and the assailants have all vanished into thin air. And we claim to have an army? huh We say we have a government? huh

Nigeria is not a country.
"Not a single one of the assailants in the Plateau massacres was captured or killed"
(This is deep)

Now imagine 160 Americans or Europeans getting killed in their homesteads and the generals will say "They can't access the terrain".
What do you think will happen?

Lol.... I see on news when government officials visiting these places... the first thing on my mind is "Hunt down these freaking terrorists" but then i realise this is a depopulation strategy and some of the security personnel are in cahoot with the terrorists.

What does this even mean??
So what are they getting paid for? It is the job of the armed forces to devise a way to maneuver such terrains, no excuses, afterall what's the huge budget being appropriated to the armed yearly meant for?

Citizens should not be left at the mercy of terrorists just because of the Government's incompetence.

What was the cause of Israel's IDF war with Hamas?
160 people died and the military is saying they can't access the terrain? So if it was foreign invaders, na him be say the country don fall be that. Shior!!!

PoliticsRe: Tribal Electoral War In Kogi by Tiiitoo:
OZIOGU1:
Yea i honestly understand where you are driving at, sorry brother if i have to jump in here to give historical background.

I am from kogi central married to a lady from kogi east and we are happily together, during my wedding i ask her of what benefit that i drove in an untarred road for 2hours before getting to her village if they have been the one producing the governor of the state since it creation? she simply responded by saying you see the problem is my people just wanted power as the dominant tribe in the state daz all, then i told her that do you know that since your kinsmen have been in power there is no meaningful development in my senatorial district? i told her how a road that i grew up to meet in a dilapidated condition still remains the same way it is when i left home, does it mean we don't deserve to enjoy dividends of democracy because we are from central? she responded we wey get the governor what is our benefits?

When bello came to power that road was fixed in less than a year, then it occur to me that by Nigerian standard of politics, your kinsman must be in power to benefits from government social amenities.

Now the systematic problem is justice
Where there is injustice, there is going to be underdevelopment, uprising and sadly hatred among the people, if there is justice no body will care who rule so long as your interest is guaranteed, a simple example When you board a flight the chances that you may not know your pilots is very high meaning you dont need to know him to guarantee your safety, why cant we replicate this in our governance system?

Let there be justice, today bello gave us reference hospital, custech and almost all internal roads is constructed and rehabilitated in some cases, this is what is lacking currently in igalaland coz when they had the chance they blew it, my last visit with my wife last year she cried when she saw the development in my place.
I do not fault your assertions at all, not a single bit, it is the kind of politics we play in this Country, even our national politics is no different but it doesn't have to be that way.

It is quite understandable that as a direct beneficiary of development, however it comes is welcome by you. Being in support of "na turn by turn" gets us nowhere though. What about the areas that have not had the Governor, it means they would be living in caveman era.
So ododo will develop ebira Land for another 8 years and then he leaves for okuns to develop theirs, that is if they're fortunate to capture the seat. Lol, na wa

We should be looking for candidates that considers every part of the states as their constituents and not ethnic champions or dont you think so, it fosters unity.

If we are to make a meaningful progress as a nation we must actively get involved in politics; like Epictetus once said; "the price you pay for not participating in politics is to be governed by your inferiors"

In my opinion though. I'm just looking at the future.
PoliticsRe: Tribal Electoral War In Kogi by Tiiitoo: 10:44am On Nov 15, 2023
You just reinforced what I was trying to explain,
Infrastructural development and good governance transcends tribe. If the state was making progress I don't think the issue of tribe comes into play, it only happens in this part of the world cos we are Africans and deeply tribal.

Like I said, there was nothing they campaigned with showed they were gonna lift the citizens of that state out of poverty and because you can win elections doesn't mean you can govern.

Nigerians are now enlightened to fall for these tribal gimmicks, I wonder why these things keep happening.

Ps, I'm not from Kogi.
PoliticsRe: Tribal Electoral War In Kogi by Tiiitoo: 10:17am On Nov 15, 2023
African man and Tribal politics, how does Usman Ododo , muritala or Dino winning the election bring development to this backward state. None, whatsoever. Well, there's nothing they campaigned with showed that they are going to get rid of the endemic poverty, backwardness and hopelessness in that state other than my tribe has been excluded and so therefore has to win the Election.

I carried out a project in Kogi state some years ago, Okene to be precise, frankly speaking, the level of underdevelopment and poverty in that place is heartbreaking, women, men and children budgeting 100 for a meal (N70 garri and N30 kwili kwili) and yet Ebira man was in power.

So my question is; "what has changed or what was going to change"?

Karleb:
GDP isn't an actual indicator for good economy. Same UK has not been like it was economically, you can read about how English people complain about their economy online. So I'll take the GDP comparison with a pinch of salt, I'd rather we compare them based on the percentage of middleclass.

Ask yourself how Sub-Saharan Africans are still poor despite the lots of aids they've received from the west in so many years. If someone gives you a cure for an ailment but the same illness keeps getting worse despite taking the supposed cure, then something might be fishy as it is with these west's aids.

India is an ally of Russia, they are one important member of the BRICS and they hate UK and US, Infact they wrote a go to hell farewell to the royal family when Elizabeth died. So India are not neutral, they support Russia.

I saw how you snucked in north Korea 🤣. No one is saying Russia and allies are saints but don't let a country that was in Afghanistan for 20 years and many other countries committing atrocities tell you who the devil is, because they wouldn't point to themself. Remember what they did in Libya.

Democracy isn't the best type of government, it sure isn't the only form of government. China and Russia aren't poor and they are well respected and feared, I think their leaders are doing a pretty good job. The US wasn't always this good/rich country under this same democracy.

North Korea is bad because it doesn't practice democracy, I agree but there too many bad/poor countries that practices same democracy. You can't even tell me countries like UK, Belgium, Chile etc practices democracy when they're monarchs are importanter than their prime ministers.
Well, you have made up your mind that looking eastward is much better.
I believe the premise of your argument is based on the idea of a multipolar world which essentially is not a bad idea. If by achieving these goals is by claiming territories, bringing back empires, breaking known international laws so that they can compete then its criminal.

I don't quite agree with this, this why Russia should not be allowed to win this war even if it last for a long time cos it will embolden other authoritarian states to do the same.

What happens when Russia wins. Chinas takes on Taiwan, North Korea takes on South Korea and goes on.

Top ten world economies are actually on the western hemisphere apart from China and India, do your research on however standards you want to measure it.

Nigeria is not a communist state, we do not share the same ideology with China and co. We have nothing in common with them apart from TRADE.
It was the same China that committed human right abuses against Uyghurs muslims, they were murdered in concentration camps, nobody said a word but the West you love to hate.
No press freedom in Russia, the Kremlin will literally poison and assassinate dissenting voices, Kim Jong of North Korea nkor? Don't even get me started....

When it comes to war, you can't actually be neutral as inaction is action.

If South Africa decides to side with other world powers aside your beloved America, it's their choice. You are not more knowledgeable in politics than their president.

Ask yourself, how important has USA and it's allies been to nigeria compared to a country like China for example, an ally of Russia?

We can't even buy America's products, they are too expensive even before our naira became shit.

Let them sanction us for having an opinion and we will dish their dollar for yuan!

If you know your history, you know who the dictators are.
If African countries have not fared well in matters of Econnomy, Demoracy and human & infrastructural Development do not blame the West
It's mainly its leaders, they are short sighted, visionless, Myopic, corrupt and undiscerning.
Like i said, African leaders and the Citizens have to be smart by taking advantage of Western technologies and advance its cause; in that way they'll be respected in comity of nations but when doing that you don't take sides.

The African continent is small to take on these advanced countries economically, for instance UK does less in production but their economy is deep rooted in delivering first class services. Almost all commercial ships in the world are insured in Lloyds of London.
Even the ships that delivered those beautiful marbles from Turkey to your house is probaly insured in Lloyds of London.

It was in this same Forum someone posted that Nigerians in Disapora remitted about $163 billion dollars to Nigeria in the last 10 years or so (Im not too sure about the number of years), what Countries were those Monies remitted from?

Whats the GDP of Russia; about 1.7 trillion Dollars for over 140 million people, what is the GDP of UK; about 3.2 Trillion dollars for 67 Million people. Can Russia afford to dole out financial aids to Africa. Look at Somalia for example, there a massive starvation and famine going on there but you wouldnt know, it took the help of the British Media, Doctors without
borders and financial aids from West to rescue those kids that were dying in numbers.
Where was China, North Korea or Russia?, busy building hypersonics and enlarging their military.

I have lots friends and families across Europe and the Americas so I wouldnt want them to bear the brunt of silly mistakes of uninformed few over here, going to Social media and spreading anti west sentiments in the name of "i have right to opinion" and bla bla bla. (That was the area of concern of the OP)
This war is real and it is changing a lot of things.

Yes, South Africa operates a sophisticated economy, what about other sub-saharan countries whose GDPs cannot compete with a single state in America? should they carry placards too and shout death to the West?
These guys have planned for the future, we need them bro.

Even India, the world's 6th largest economy is maintaining a neutral stance but South Africa is jumping up and down and Africans (Nigerians) are cheering them. Well, their Rands is depreciating by the day.

Look i am not an American or Western Lover but China, Russia or North Korea are hardly the role model you are advocating for. These guys are Authoritarians, Putin is gonna remain in power till 2030 or so, Xi ping has just won his historic 3rd term (10 years and counting) North Korea is a family dynasty lol.

if we think democracy is the best type of government then we must always lean towards the west and be SMART about it too.

Sorry for the long read and my errors.

They already do. There are way more many African students in both countries than in Ukraine prior to the war. Many Africans are living in both countries and enjoying themselves. Here is something you should know: as a black African, no one likes you. Not even the Chinese or West. Even African Americans don't like you. You are on your own. As such, it is ONLY your interests you should protect, support and be bothered about. A fight between two Europeans is not your concern. Because should you fight your own brother, those Europeans would not give a fvck about it.
I align with your thoughts.
I see south Africa at the forefront in leading the rebellion against the West with Nigerian Citizens on the African continent as if the war concerns them. The Russians are the ones that started the war in any case.

Even if you have strong reservations and opinions, pls keep it to yourself so you dont spoil it for others.
I believe the consequences of taking sides is more dire than being neutral. Africans and thier leaders have to be smart and circumspect in foreign relations.

If US and her allies begins sanctions and start revoking all benefits to the African citizens for the open rebellion they'll be the ones shouting Racism n shit.

It even amazes me the Africans like despots and dictators.

To begin with, China is a bully in the Indo Pacific region, threatening small islands and annexing same just like Russia. You should understand that these Autocratic tendencies of communist ideology is a threat to freedom which must be contained.
I can't imagine a world being led by Russia and China.

In addition, it takes just 2 weeks for US to reinforce from the Mainland when push comes to shove.

Furthermore, nobody wants war, the current world order must be maintained, I remember when the old Japanese empire was invading China during WW11, It was the same United States that came to the rescue of China by dropping the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs effectively marking the end of WW11, if not, China would have been subservient to Japan by now.
