Politics / Court Asks FG To Produce Dasuki In Court by tilman(m): 3:56pm On Jan 20, 2016
A Federal High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday asked the Federal Government to produce the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki, in court on February 16 to face criminal charges.

Dasuki was absent in court when his trial for money laundering and illegal possession of firearms resumed on Wednesday.

The development prompted Justice Adeniyi Ademola to order the federal government to produce the ex-NSA before the court at the next sitting.

The judge adjourned the matter till February 16 for commencement of trial, stressing that Dasuki must be physically present in court to face criminal charges against him.

Crime / Activists Laud Police, Military Operations In Rivers by tilman(m): 3:31pm On Jan 20, 2016
WORRIED by the level of insecurity in Rivers State, the Niger Delta Civil Society Coalition has hailed the police and the military for the ongoing raid of suspected cultists and kidnappers’ hideouts in the state

The coalition of activists said that the operations of the police and the military would help to reassure the people of the state that their lives and property were safe.

The Chairman of the NDCSC, Mr. Anyakwee Nsirimovu, told newsmen in Port Harcourt on Wednesday that the operations of the military and police were not illegal, adding that they (police and soldiers) acted within the confines of the law.

Nsirimovu lamented the increasing level of kidnapping, rape, armed robbery and intimidation of innocent people of the state by armed youths, adding that the human rights community was “fully” in support of the action of security operatives in the state.

“The human rights community supports fully and unequivocally what the authorities are doing. You cannot have two coercive forces in a sovereign environment. The only force that is authorized to carry arms in any nation is the police and the military.

“There is nothing in our Constitution that says to qualify for citizenship, you have to be a militant; it is an aberration and that cannot be tolerated. So, what the authorities in Rivers State are doing is within the ambits of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; they are within the law.

“What they are simply doing is to ensure security for the citizens and residents of Rivers State. I think the realisation by the police authority and all the security forces in Rivers State that time is up for these criminals to be removed is a welcomed development.

“Rivers State is unsecured at the moment. Typical instance is that night life is almost crippled in the state; by 9:00pm in Port Harcourt, you can’t get any chemist open.

“Along Hospital Road for instance, you have chemists that used to be open 24 hours, but now, 9:00pm, you can’t get that. Supermarkets are shut sometimes by 8:00pm; Stadium Road is a typical example,” he observed.

Expressing the need for the people of the state to support the police and military operations in Rivers State irrespective of their political affiliation, Nsirimovu, who is also the Executive Director of the Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Laws, cautioned that without security, a state would not be able to achieve development.

He said, “I think that no matter your political bend in this state, you must support anything that has to do with security of lives and property because without security, without peace, development can hardly happen in any environment.

“People feel unsafe and this is real; kidnapping, rape and intimidation by young people whose only power is the possession of small arms. That can’t be tolerated. You can only tolerate that in a failed state.

Romance / Words From A Mother To Her Daughter About Marriage by tilman(m): 2:58pm On May 08, 2015
WORDS FROM A MOTHER TO HER DAUGHTER
ABOUT MARRIAGE
1. The wife that wins all arguments with her
husband is not wise. The home is not a law
court.
2. The wife that uses sex as a weapon in the
home - placing embargo and using sex as
punishment - lacks wisdom.
3. The wife that uses the modern trends and
laws of "women's rights" to insult or ridicule her
husband simply makes a fool of herself.
4. A woman that makes her home devoid of
peace through bickering, nagging and quarrels
needs help. A man should be eager to run away
from office to be at home, for that should be the
safest and coziest place on earth for him.
5. Modern-day equality in marriage does not
mean competition. It simply means partnership.
Taking advantage of such equality to turn around
and become the de facto head of the home and
oppress the man is tantamount to playing with
fire. If you destroy your home, soon you will be
the boss of an empty home.
6. A wise wife makes the man feel so good that
he assumes that he is the head. Once he gets
that feeling, the woman gently wields her power
and the head actually turns to wherever the neck
wants without a protest.
7. A wife that does not pull herself away from
friends' influence and advice or even from the
control of her mother and father will have herself
to blame.
8. When a man is looking for a wife, he bypasses
women of different shapes and sizes to choose a
wife. But soon after childbirth, many women hide
under the excuse of childbirth to let go of
themselves. Many stop bothering about their
looks, shape, dressing, etc. Within 5 years of
marriage, people start wondering if the wife is
the man's aunt, even though she is 7 years
younger. Her defence is that if he truly loves her,
he should love her the way she is, but when
looking for a wife, he saw people like the present
YOU and ignored them and settled for the former
YOU. Today, you go to bed smelling of onions....
You go to bed wearing grandmothers' clothes.
Why are you playing with your marriage? Love is
not about looks - we know. But looks enhances
love and marriage. There is a difference between
someone disfiguring herself and the person being
disfigured by an accident.
Please don't be complacent. As hard as it may
be, work on looking like you were when he first
saw you and began the chase.
9. If every night you are tired, sleepy, sore, down
with headache or fever, "not in the mood," you
are a joker, a serious comedian!
10. If your children suddenly become more
important to you than your husband, you need
prayers.
11. If you assume that as the woman, only you
need to be pampered and fussed over while the
man is a stone that has no emotions, you need
to be pitied.
12. A woman that has the mind of a wife does
not excite her husband. Wives are usually
complacent and presumptuous. A wife must
strive to have the mind of a fiancee. A fiancee is
always nicer, sweeter, more loving and always
thinking of ways to wow her sweetheart; a
fiancee does not try to win all arguments, does
not call the man a "useless man", is not careless
about her looks or dressing, always smiles and
laughs with the man, sends the man sweet
messages and calls, etc.
13. A woman must never be tired of praying for
her husband. You must be his most trusted
confidant and encourager.
Politics / Navy Acquires Warship To Tackle Maritime Crime by tilman(m): 12:03am On Feb 07, 2015
The Nigerian Navy fleet yesterday, received a
boost in its fight against piracy and other
maritime crime, with the acquisition of a warship,
named the Nigerian Navy Ship NNS Centenary,
an Offshore Patrol Vessel OPV.
The vessel which was constructed by China
Shipbuilding and Offshore International Limited
Shipyard, berthed at the NN dockyard, Victoria
Island, Lagos and was received by the Chief of
the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Usman
Jibrin.
Receiving the vessel, Vice Admiral Jibrin,
boasted that the addition of the OPV to the NN
fleet would enhance the NN capacity to
execute her constitutional roles which included
the war against maritime crimes such as arms
proliferation, crude oil theft, smuggling and
piracy, among others, as well as open a new
vista in Nigeria-China relations.
Noting that effective maritime security was a
requirement for the economic well being of
Nigeria in view of her dependence on the sea,
the CNS therefore lauded president Goodluck
Jonathan’s support to the fleet recapitalization
pillar of the NN transformation plan for the
period of 2010-2020, adding that the arrival of
NNS Centenary was an attestation to his resolve
to emplace a strong and virile navy capable of
protecting the nation’s maritime interest against
all forms of threats.

Politics / Presidency Hopeful Buhari Expects Landslide Victory by tilman(m): 11:53pm On Feb 06, 2015
Abuja - Nigeria's main opposition candidate
Muhammadu Buhari on Friday told AFP he
was expecting to win next week's
presidential election by a wide margin,
despite talk of a close race.
The February 14 poll, in which he is
challenging incumbent Goodluck Jonathan,
has been seen as too close to call, leading
to a possible run-off if neither man secures
a first-round majority.
But Buhari, 72, dismissed the suggestion of
a tight race, saying in an interview: "What's
their reason for 'too close to call'? What is
their speculation on? I'm expecting a
landslide victory."
The former army general, who led a military
government for 20 months after seizing
power in December 1983, has stood
unsuccessfully for the presidency three
times in the last 16 years.
On each occasion (2003, 2007, 2011), he
alleged electoral foul-play.
But asked if he would accept defeat this
time around, the All Progressives Congress
(APC) candidate stated: "I'm not going to
lose. So, I won't answer that question."
Nigeria's main opposition is considered as
having its best chance yet of ending the
Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) unbroken
run in power since the country returned to
civilian rule in 1999.
Buhari, who was noted for his hardline
approach to indiscipline and corruption
during his time in power, has been touted as
the answer to Nigeria's lengthy list of
problems.
The PDP has sought to portray Buhari as
yesterday's man with dangerous, outdated
ideas but he asserted that Africa's most
populous nation and leading economy was
ready for change.
"I have visited 34 states so far. In each of
the states there are three things that are
consistent, that are fundamental issues to
this country, insecurity, the destruction of
the economy and corruption," he said.
"Every Nigerian is feeling worried."
No iron fists?
Buhari rejected claims from the ruling party
that he would rule again with an iron fist,
saying the circumstances under a military
regime were different from a civilian
administration.
Multi-party democracy and the three tiers of
government, enshrined in the constitution,
had to be respected, with consequences for
anyone acting outside the system, he said.
The APC has portrayed President Jonathan
as weak on security and of being unable --
some say unwilling -- to end the Boko
Haram insurgency in the northeast.
Some soldiers have complained that they
lack the weapons and even bullets to fight
the better-armed militants, despite defence
spending accounting for some 20 percent of
the federal budget.
Buhari said that if elected, his
administration would "empower the law
enforcement agencies to be much more
efficient".
"The first thing we will do is to make sure
there is efficient utilisation of resources. If
money is voted for equipment and training,
that money will go to equipment and
training," he added.
The APC has claimed that Jonathan has
failed to tackle endemic graft and Buhari
said corruption was practically "a culture" in
the country.
"I believe the most serious thing to do is to
draw a line, that you intend to move
forward," he said but added that
investigating every allegation of corruption
would be a hindrance to progress.
"From the day we are sworn in as a
government, anybody who abuses trust will
be called to account," he added.

Politics / PDP Accuses INEC , APC Of Hoarding Pvcs by tilman(m): 12:42pm On Feb 06, 2015
Abuja - The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
has alleged that officials of the Independent
National Electoral Commission (INEC) are
conniving with members of the All
Progressives Congress (APC) to deny non-
indigenes in APC-controlled states of their
permanent voter cards (PVCs), reports
Leadership
Olisa Metuh, PDP’s National Publicity
Secretary in a statement in Abuja on
Thursday, said the party has more facts
suggesting that the INEC officials and the
APC were working together to shut out the
non-indigenes because of their perceived
political affiliation.

He noted that the aim is to deny the PDP of
its well-deserved victory in APC states since
these non-indigenes are supporters of the
PDP.
He described the development as a crime
against the electoral process.

Politics / Inflammatory Comments: DSS Has Invited Dokubo Severally- Ogar by tilman(m): 1:53am On Feb 06, 2015
By Ugochukwu Onyeocha
The Department of State Services (DSS), on
Thursday revealed that it has sent various
invitations to an ex-Niger Delta militant, Asari
Dokubo, over his recent inflammatory outbursts
on the presidential elections.
Speaking to newsmen on Thursday at a media
conference organised by the National
Information Centre, the spokesperson of the
DSS, Marilyn Ogar, in response to a question
posed by journalists stated that Dokubo had
refused honouring the invitations extended to
him by the security agency.
“First of all, whatever is the operational
procedures that we take after we have issued
out warnings, we do not make them public.
“And I want you to recollect that Asari Dokubo
has been brought into the office – DSS, a
couple of times.
“It is not in the position of the office to begin
to tell you who has been brought in or who has
not been brought in.
“We still stand by our words that whoever in
any way would want to interfere or interrupt
the peace that prevails, he or she would
definitely be dealt with,” Ogar said.
Politics / Inec Advises Electorates To Bring Cameras To The Polls by tilman(m): 1:46am On Feb 06, 2015
The Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) has assured that it would conduct a model election, advising the electorate to come to the voting centers with cameras to capture any ugly event that may unfold.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner of Anambra State, Engineer Edwin Nwatarali who made the call yesterday at a stakeholders meeting organized by the commission, said the tapping of events will help forestall sharp practices by staff of the commission.

Nwatarali made the call while reacting to a question by a stakeholder who insisted that INEC staff were fond of giving out unused ballot papers to some political parties who thumbprint them in favour of their party.

“That is a grave allegation, and no one can come here and make such spurious allegation without proof. It is very wrong to stand up and make such claims without evidence, and I will not sit down next time and watch this happen.

“Never the less, electorates are advised to come to the polling centers with their cameras, so that they will be able to capture any of such incidences that play out. That is the only time you can make such claims with evidence,” He said.

The REC also advised people who do not have the permanent voters card not to bother coming close to the voting centres as there will be three layers of security all around every polling unit.

Reacting to questions on why the commission can not stop the PDP from fielding multiple candidates in Anambra state, Nwatarali said it was not the duty of INEC to present candidates to the party, rather the parties are charged to present one.

He further stated that INEC does not conduct elections for individuals, but for political parties, noting that it is the reason why only names of political parties are found on the ballot papers.

He further said that INEC list on the names of candidates was clear, and that only those whose names were on the list are authentic candidates standing for elections, even though it is all subject to the decision of the court.
