Why do you think most institutions in Nigeria including NBA are corrupt?
The noise from Obidients will not change any thing. No pathway to Obi's presidency and even if you conduct the election 10 ten times it is impossible for Obi to score 25 percent in 25 states.
PoliticsIt Went Well — NBA Scores INEC High In Conduct Of Presidential Poll by tinsel(op): 6:20am On Mar 05, 2023
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has scored the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) high in the conduct of the just concluded presidential and national assembly elections.

Speaking on Channels TV on Saturday, Yakubu Maikyau, president of the NBA, said despite challenges, INEC performed well in the delivery of the elections.

“I will say that the elections went well. Those who came out were happy to express their franchise,” Maikyau said.

“There were challenges, definitely. There were some infractions, some of them actually constituted electoral offences but on the whole, I will score INEC as having performed maybe about 78, 80 percent in the delivery of these elections.

“That will be an A for every exam. Notwithstanding, all the things that happened which we are not ignoring.

“That is why we are admonishing and advising INEC and recommending to INEC that in those areas where we saw lapses in the election held on the 25th February 2023, deliberate efforts must be taken to make sure that those lapses did not occur again in the elections that are coming up on the 11th March because when these lapses happened, it impacted on the confidence of the public in the process.”

Earlier, the Abuja branch of the NBA recommended that INEC should introduce online voting in the country.

Precious Nwadimuya, chairperson of the Abuja branch, in an interview with NAN on Thursday, said online voting would eliminate electoral violence and voter suppression.

PoliticsDavid Hundeyin, Booted From Oxford Varsity Over Fraud, Sexism and others by tinsel(op): 3:18am On Mar 05, 2023
Popular controversial blogger, David Hundeyin has been axed from Oxford University for misconduct bordering on misogynism, sexism and racketeering.

Hundeyin alongside Onyeka Nwelue, a Nigerian author, were outed from the prestigious university after both ran a ‘fraudulent’ book launch together on Oxford University premises for Hundeyin’s most recent book.

“Onyeka Nwelue and David Hundeyin are no longer associated with the University of Cambridge. Their connections were terminated following an investigation into their conduct”.

They added: “The James Currey Fellowship is not administered, awarded, or funded by the University of Cambridge,” a statement credited to the institution reads.

It was further exposed that Hundeyin and Nwelue exploited the university community by charging £20 for entry via the African Studies Centre of whose events are usually free.

Expressing shock and dismay at the impudence of the hosts to charge a fee for the book launch was one of the attendees at the event.

“I signed up to attend the event, and was surprised I had to pay £20 to attend. Events run by the African Studies Centre are usually free as they are catering towards students.” the attendee said as quoted by Cherwell.

In addition to charging £20 for entry, copies of Hundeyin’s book were also on sale for a further £20 at the event.

Coinciding with the fraud-laced event the institution found Hundeyin and Nwelue guilty of, accusations of misogynism and sexism also headlined the misconduct that led to their dismissal.

A student was quoted as saying, “A key point of concern occurred when a question was asked by an attendee to Hundeyin concerning the issue of sexism and sexual harassment that African female journalists endure.

Hundeyin replied with the implication that women who were of a fair complexion, tall and had long legs would not face hurdles to their career advancement in journalism.”

A Twitter user, @DalapFlourish claimed that a 19-year-old boy from Plateau state committed suicide after Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of Labour Party(LP) lost the Nigerian presidential election held on 25th February.

Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Asijwau Ahmed Bola Tinubu, the candidate of All Progressive Congress(APC) as the winner of the Saturday’s polls, beating People Democratic Party’s Atiku Abubakar who became second and LP’s Peter Obi, who emerged third.

The post showed an image of the boy’s corpse dangling with a rope on his neck in an uncompleted building, which deeds established that he died in a suicide-like manner.

The Twitter user with the username ‘Peter obi’s kidney ❤❤❤PI, also claimed that the boy left a note behind stating Nigeria would have no hope in the next 20 years after Obi’s presidential bid.

“SAD NEWS: I will tell God INEC killed me, Young Boy from Plateau state commit suicide and dies after Obi lost a rigged election. The 19 years old boy left a short note behind which reads “ no hope for Nigeria for the next 20 years after Obi lost the election, #RejectTinubu,” the caption reads.

The post, published on 3rd March, gathered 50 retweets and over 50 likes as of the time of filing this report.
DalapFlourish_in another post attached to the previous one, aslo claimed that the boy was part of the people who protested over ensuring that Peter Obi wins the 2023 presidential election.

“I would rather end it now than to live in a hell called Nigeria”. The small boy was part of the people that protested in the sun and rain to market Obi, but got disappointed by INEC that rigged the Election in the favor of Tinubu. Please is not an option #RejectTinu,” the twitter account tweeted to its over 2000 followers.

This reporter also found out that some news blogs have used the image and attributed the same claim to it as seen here and here.

Verification

Using tools like Duplicate Checker and Yandex, this reporter found out that the image has been on the internet since 2016.

The image was used by TalkGlitz Media, a news media website to publish a report on 25th December 2016 about one 26-year-old boy purported to be a Yahoo boy with the nickname Chino who committed suicide in Warri, Delta state.

“A 26-year-old Yahoo boy by the nickname chino was said to have committed suicide in Warri yesterday. Residents of the area said they woke up this morning to see his dangling corpse,” the post reads in part.

Also, another news outlet, URHOBO TODAY used the image on 26th December 2016 with the same claim as that of TalkGlitz Media.

Therefore, the same image could not have been attributed to a suicide case of a 19-year-old boy in the just concluded 2023 Nigerian presidential election.

Verdict

The viral image purportedly attributed to a 19-year-old teenager from Plateau state alleged to have committed suicide following Peter Obi’s presidential election loss has long been used since 2016, and he is not related to Obi’s 2023 Nigerian presidential election saga.

PoliticsNaira Redesign: Banks’ Cash Withdrawal Limit Is Illegal – Supreme Court by tinsel(op): 10:00pm On Mar 03, 2023
The Supreme Court has adjudged the cash withdrawal limits imposed by banks as a result of scarcity of currency notes in circulation as a violation of citizens’ rights.

A seven-man panel of the court led by John Okoro made the declaration in a unanimous judgement delivered on Friday.

“Such restriction on an owner’s right to freely use his or her property is illegal unless provided for by a law,” Emmanuel Agim, a member of the court’s panel who read the lead judgement, held.

The court handed down the decision in a suit challenging the federal government’s illegal withdrawal of the old N200, N500, and N1,000 from circulation.

The federal government, under a demonetisation policy, had in October 2022, introduced newly redesigned N200, N500, and N1,000 notes and aimed to withdraw the old versions of the currency notes from circulation within 90 days.

Under the policy, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) also placed cash withdrawal limits of maximum of N500,000 weekly on individuals and maximum N5 million weekly on corporate entities.

The implementation of the policy has been chaotic as shortage in supply of the new notes created scarcity of cash across the country.

Many citizens queued at ATM centres in a chaotic scramble for cash to meet their basic needs but often returned home empty-handed. The situation sparked violent protests by desperate citizens deprived of gaining access to their hard-earned money.

Commercial banks resorted to placing limits on cash withdrawals on their customers in a futile attempt to evenly distribute available cash to the highest number of citizens..

The Supreme Court declared such action by the commercial banks as a violation of the rights of the citizens.

“My attention has not been drawn to any law that permits a bank not to pay cash to a customer on demand on the grounds that the 1st defendant has not been able to print enough new naira notes,” Mr Agim said.

He also said he was not aware of any law “that permits the 1st defendant to direct the imposition of limits on the cash to be paid from a customer’s account after deposit of the old naira notes”.

“To the extent that the directive has continued to deprive all persons and the plaintiffs access to a substantial part of their funds in banks in form of cash, it forcefully and illegally interferes with their rights of ownership and use of their said funds for,” Mr Agim added. “Such restriction on an owner’s right to freely use his or her property is illegal unless provided for by a law.”

The Supreme Court nullified Mr Buhari’s directive withdrawing the old N200, N500, and N1,0000 notes from circulation.

It also ordered that the old naira notes would remain legal tender and must continue to circulate alongside the new ones up till 31 December.
