The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Monday said old N200, N500, N1,000 bank notes remain legal tender Till December 31, 2023. The apex bank’s Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Isa AbdulMumin stated this in a statement on Monday. In compliance with the established tradition of obedience to court orders and sustenance of the Rule of Law Principle that characterized the government of President Muhammadu Buhari, and by extension, the operations of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), as a regulator, Deposit Money Banks operating in Nigeria have been directed to comply with the Supreme Court ruling of March 3, 2023. “Accordingly, the CBN met with the Bankers’ Committee and has directed that the old N200, N500 and N1000 banknotes remain legal tender alongside the redesigned banknotes till December 31, 2023. “Consequently, all concerned are directed to conform accordingly.” The highest court of the land had on March 3 ordered that old N200, N500 and N1000 notes remain valid till December 31, 2023. This was after 16 states of the Federation instituted a suit to challenge the legality or otherwise of the introduction of the policy. The 16 states led by Kaduna, Kogi and Zamfara had prayed the apex court to void and set aside the policy on the ground that it is inflicting hardships on innocent Nigerians. The court subsequently ruled that the President’s disobedience of its February 8 order is a sign of dictatorship, adding that Buhari breached the Constitution of the Federation in the way he issued directives for the re-designing of the Naira by the CBN. After the March 3 judgement by the Supreme Court, the Presidency, CBN and the AGF kept mum, throwing many bank customers and Nigerians into confusion as the ruling of the apex court contradicted the directive of the President on February 16 that old N500 and N1000 notes are banned and old N200 notes remain valid till April 10. However, the Presidency broke its silence on Monday, saying the President never told the CBN and the AGF not to obey the order of the apex court. https://www.channelstv.com/2023/03/13/breaking-cbn-breaks-silence-says-old-n200-n500-n1000-notes-remain-legal-tender-till-dec-31/ |

Emefiele launches fresh plot against President-elect Tinubu March 13, 2023 • CBN boss conspires with Gen on Lagos polls • Doles out N500m new notes to LP’s campaign Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele is playing his “last card” in the closing chapter of the high-stake power-play that has embroiled Nigeria in the past six months. The CBN boss, who has disobeyed the Supreme Court judgment that the old N500 and N1000 notes remain legal tender until December 31, is determined to influence the outcome of the March 18 governorship election in Lagos State against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Sources said last night that the apex bank has released N500 million in new bank notes to shore up the campaign of the Labour Party (LP) in the state. ahead of the presidential poll, is highly unfavoured to continue in office after President Muhammadu Buhari bows out on May 29. Incidentally, he had mounted a multi-billionaire bid for the APC presidential ticket last year in flagrant breach of the provisions of the CBN Act forbidding political partisanship. Before he eventually chickened out of the race in May 2022, the CBN governor, according to an affidavit deposed to by the Department of State Security (DSS), had allegedly been involved in “terror financing”. “A network of gangs and elements to help in the realisation of his presidential ambition was said to have been recruited,” said the source. The latest secret cash largesse to the LP candidate’s campaign is coming at a time many Nigerians groan under acute cash scarcity as daily languish in endless queues at banking halls and ATM centres across the country without being able to access their savings, despite a Supreme Court order on March 3 mandating the revalidation of the N200, N500 and N1,000 notes till December 31, 2023. Aside Emefiele’s N500 million cash, the LP has also reportedly received $2 million cash from a famous retired billionaire general, who hails from the North. The said general had openly endorsed Obi on the understanding that he would “protect my business” interest, particularly in the oil and gas sector. The businessman was said to have been shocked, following the announcement of Tinubu by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as President-elect. The provision of dollars for LP is to match the APC candidate in the Lagos polls “dollar-for-dollars”, the source added. The billionaire General is widely known to be among the “group of five generals” who had done everything possible in cahoots with some others to stall the declaration of the results of the presidential election when it became clear that Tinubu was heading for clear victory. His latest “investment” in Rhodes-Vivour is said to be an “emotional last dice” geared towards preserving his shock, being a Lagos resident who has just completed a new home believed to be worth $25 million. https://thenationonlineng.net/emefiele-launches-fresh-plot-against-president-elect-tinubu/ |

Part of Labour party and Obidients propaganda was that INEC declared Gombe results for Bauchi. The Cable has come out to apologize that the mistake was from them and not INEC. https://mobile.twitter.com/DeeOneAyekooto/status/1634573607098634242?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is considering a postponement of the governorship and state assembly elections. TheCable understands that the electoral body is expected to take a decision on the issue at a meeting of its national commissioner on Wednesday night. Since the conclusion of the presidential and national assembly polls, the electoral body has been in court over the application seeking to extract data embedded in the bimodal voter accreditation system (BVAS) and inspect other election materials. Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), and Atiku Abubakar, standard bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had filed similar applications on the matter before the court of appeal. They equally applied to obtain the certified true copy (CTC) of all the data in the BVAS. However, the electoral body insisted that granting the request would affect its preparations for the forthcoming elections. Tanimu Inuwa, counsel to the INEC, asked the court to vary the orders which gave permission to Obi and Atiku to inspect all the sensitive materials used in the conduct of the presidential election. But the court refused to grant INEC’s request, saying the commission failed to specify which of the orders it wished to vary. The court also emphasised that it never granted Obi and LP permission to access the database of INEC as misconceived by the electoral body. It clarified that what was granted was an order giving Obi and LP permission to do electronic scanning and/or make photocopies of voter registration, and ballot papers used in the conduct of the election. https://www.thecable.ng/sources-inec-mulling-postponement-of-guber-polls/amp |
Obi requested only one thing- stop INEC from reconfiguring the machines. And the court ruled one thing- refused his request. Obidients can interprete the ruling to massage their ego any way they like. |
Reporting falsehood to massage your ego. |
The court of appeal has refused to restrain the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from reconfiguring the bimodal voter accreditation system (BVAS) ahead of the governorship and state assembly elections. In the ruling delivered on Wednesday, a three-member panel of the court of appeal led by Joseph Ikyegh, held that restraining the electoral commission would constrain INEC from conducting the March 11 elections. In an application, Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), had sought an order of the court “restraining the 1st respondent (INEC) from tampering with the information embedded in the BVAS machines until the due inspection is conducted and certified true copies (CTC) of them issued”. https://www.thecable.ng/breaking-court-refuses-obis-request-to-stop-inec-from-reconfiguring-bvas/amp to follow… |
