BUHARI'S principal was my principal. From their school (Katsina Provincial School), the principal, Mr. West was sent to our school.

In those days when Nigeria was Nigerianising its military, many of the officers that you are seeing today did not even have their school certificates until long after.

When we were invited to go to Kaduna, we were given qualifying examination in English, Mathematics and General Knowledge, even before we took the school certificate exam.

Some did not even wait to take their school certificates because vacancies were already waiting for them.

It was after that qualifying exam that we were recruited into the army. By the time some had their school certificates, they had become officers.

For example, Gen. Babangida never saw his school certificate until when he was head of state. I got my school certificate long after I became an officer.

But there was officer cadet qualifying examination. About 240 of us sat for that exam in Kaduna.

in 2004 the capital expenditure was 19.54%

2005 it was 34.29%

in 2006 it was 28.7%

2007 was 34.48%

In recent times, only in 2010 have we done a budget with capital expenditure of 40.23%

In fact in 2004 during OBJ time, capital + recurrent expenditure was only 49.65% of the budget meaning that we spent a whooping 50.35% of the total budget on statutory transfer and debt services.

I really can't understand why most Nigerian now refer to OBJ as a saint and yardstick for measuring performance in government.

I listened to a BBC program on Nigeria about 1 hour ago.
First, their military analyst denigrated Nigeria's military saying Obasanjo kept only loyalist who would not plot a coup against him and such political weeding of the military has now been exposed by the incompetent and corrupt leadership of their officers.
A few minutes later, they interviewed some anonymous soldiers who said their problem was lack of ammunition and equipment!
