RomanceHow Much Did You Spend On Your Wedding? by tiwola(op): 12:02pm On Jan 04, 2012
Hi, just popped the question and she said YES!
Hurray for me.
Now I've been seeing all sorts of wedding plans and designs.
Saw a few we liked but havent made up our minds yet.
But here's a question I'd like y'all to answer for me.

HOW MUCH DID YOUR WEDDING COST?

PoliticsRe: Subsidy Removal:GEJ Ready For Mass Revolt by tiwola: 5:50am On Dec 11, 2011
Let me see how good nairalanders are at lateral thinking:

1st: NNPC and the FG can't either establish or control the cost of overseas refining and fuel importation as evidenced by recent revelations involving their duplicity in the subsidy scam.

2nd: Out of the blue, the government wants to pursue a deregulation agenda (that's what this talk of subsidy removal really is: our government is abandoning Nigerians to the whims and caprices of the same people it has paid these subsidies to for nearly 10yrs now. People who through deregulation can agree to charge as high as they want).

3rd: Deregulation (idiot-proof translation): The total absence of government legislation, oversight, supervision, responsibilty or accountability over a particular sector of the economy.

4th: The government already practices a form of the above by granting unsupervised powers to NNPC which is implicated in the present subsidy scam.

5th: An example of the results of deregulation can be found in the present global financial crisis which was precipitated by the irresponsibility of the US government when they deregulated the investment banking sector, allowing greedy bankers the rule of the roost with the global economy in the balance. (more to be said here but little time: If you need more info, get a copy of the Inside Job documentary. I can make my copy available if you live in the Ketu, Magodo or Ikeja environs).

6th: FG refuses to initiate, organize or give us a concrete timeline on when our refineries will go back online.

7th: Government refuses to tell us if the price increases resulting from subsidy removal will be permanent ot temporary. It CAN be a temporary if their are plans to renovate existing refineries and build new ones.

8th: Government has no plans to fully revitalize the non-oil sectors of the economy or initiate programs to encourage private sector development of these areas.

9th: The total absence of true palliatives that could ease the burden of subsidy removal: 24hrs electricity and plans to improve local refining capacity.

Now for our lateral thinking assignment: Put all the above pieces together and tell me what you see. Best of luck.

Life would be so much easier if you could just add the price.
Interested people will call you if your price is reasonable.

See what we can achieve if GEJ had a little more backbone? Now let him tell all those oil bloc awardees that the free lunch is over, repair the refineries, build new ones, start exporting processed crude and tackle the power situation.

Or maybe that's a bit much to expect,

Can I blame a STUPID police man for this statement?
No!
Really I can't.
I'll blame the girl for not coming forward, making her case and then seeking justice.
We saw her face on the net.
Somewhere, somehow, somebody knows who she is. She and them choose to keep
quiet.
She has already been stigmatized. Let these fools also suffer the same fate.
Come forward so Nigerians can recognize them and their families for the raping scum that they are.
She'd rather keep quiet, abi she don collect settlement and we dey hear dey give ourselves headache?

GamingRe: Please Does Anyone Know How To Fix Xbox 360 Red Light Error? by tiwola: 2:56pm On Oct 07, 2011
Dude its normal for your power pack to go orange then green.
Orange: Standby Mode
Green: Operational Mode.

It's not a symptom of anything.

Were you the one I emailed the RROD repair guides to? If so, the only thing you need are:

- those guides
- the tools to open your xbox
- New screws and washers (over-sabi language for xbox nuts and bolts)
- Heatsink cream (most important ingredient of all) and some cleaning fluid.
- And a day when nobody will disturb you.

But please note, its not a 100% fix. The RROD will still happen. IT could be a month or latest 3 months.
Which is why I bought the new Xbox 360 slim.

CareerRe: Airtel Did Not Sack Workers. Their Side Of The Story ! by tiwola: 1:49pm On Oct 07, 2011
As for the Indians offering 30k to retain workers, I believe I can't really blame them.
After all, PhD holders in their country drive taxis.

It's the Federal Government I'll blame. They created an industry and allowed foreign concerns to profit from it.

A proper structure would have been a situation where anybody local or foreign can own a telecomms outfit, oil exploration company etc; but to make sure that some of that money stays in the country, ALL supporting companies (call center, facilities management etc) would be 100% dominated by Nigerians.

Lastly, I can't say I pity anyone who thought they would retire on call-center work. The pay isn't supposed to make you comfortable, it's supposed to push you to aim your sights higher.
CareerRe: Airtel Did Not Sack Workers. Their Side Of The Story ! by tiwola: 1:41pm On Oct 07, 2011
See the problem with most people is that when they're employed by some of these call center companies (or BPOs as they're referred to here), they start claiming to friends and family that it's the telecoms company that employed them.

And pressmen should check their bloody facts. Someone could/should sue for libel.

Abi wetin dem dey learn for school of journalism sef?

Using pdf as the basis for your e-book is an easy way to start.
Google this software application: Microsoft save to pdf/xls.
It's not large but it enables you save powerpoint and word files to pdf.
have fun.
Video Games And Gadgets For SaleRe: Xbox 360 S Sales by tiwola: 8:36am On Oct 01, 2011
Yes. What you need is Xbox Live Gold subscription anda pc/laptop with windows home premium.
You can then download games to your PC and transfer to your xbox. (You WILL have to pay for the Xbox live gold subscription though)
It's not on the same level with hacking/mod chipping though which is basically free/less expensive compared to what I described before.
Video Games And Gadgets For SaleRe: Xbox 360 S Sales by tiwola: 4:11pm On Sep 30, 2011
Not sure about them. They say they can but I won't stick my neck out on their behalf.
My advice, stick with original.
My new 360 is at least 6 months old now and it still runs as quietly as the day I
bought it. (And I'm bad at maintaining stuff, you should see the dust on it as we speak).
Another reason are the updates. Once you chip, you won't be able to update your console.
That means a year after you chip your console, you won't be able to play new releases on your 360.

Check the list of updates and the their benefits on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_system_software

Stay original my friend and therefore keep unwanted untrained hands out of your system.

Don't actually know their street names. But here are some directions:
Enter Computer village through the obafemi awolowo way entrance (same road that
runs past agidingbi junction, allen junction etc).
Enter through this computer village entrance and walk all the way down.
At the end of that junction you'll find a block of shops (with a low fence in front).
Enter and turn to your right, you'll see a long row of shops.
Videogames, Ipods, Ipads, headphones and accessories sold here.

Xbox 360 average price (50k) - Bought mine 45k (NTSC - All my games are NTSC and the compatible Pal ones)
PS3 maximum price I've seen (65k).

If you're looking for brand new games though, not too many people sell them in Computer Village, so you'll end up
having to wait, buy direct from abroad, chip your console and buy pirated from Alaba (won't advise that though - Once you start, you'll never stop).

Have fun.

I have 2 guides. Can't upload them here. too large. Send me your email so I can fwd you the guides:

They outline how you'll disassemble the console and how to go about fixing it.

You'll need some screws and washers; the heat-sink paste and the right tools to dismantle the machine. Those screws & tools aren't available on the street (as far as I know).

Video Games And Gadgets For SaleRe: Xbox 360 S Sales by tiwola: 5:07pm On Sep 14, 2011
And while we're talking console prices, I think it'd shock you to find out that you could get a PS3 (80GB-120GB anyway) for around 54-55,000 Naira.
Don't ask me where they get their stuff. Heck if I know.

But then again, why would I want to?

Video Games And Gadgets For SaleRe: Xbox 360 S Sales by tiwola: 1:00pm On Sep 14, 2011
As for the adapter, you can get one in computer village for 5k or thereabouts or right here on nairaland.
Just post a topic. Must be someone who wants to sell his.
Video Games And Gadgets For SaleRe: Xbox 360 S Sales by tiwola: 12:58pm On Sep 14, 2011
I've used it for a while now and no, it doesn't have the RROD issues.
Repair kits for the RROD are available in computer village and Alaba. But they're mostly substandard and usually incomplete.
When I repaired my old 360, I had to ask a cousin to help me buy the complete repair kit in the US.
It wasn't a permanent fix at the end of the day, so I just bought the 360 Slim.

And that's my advice. Get the 360 Slim. Even if you fix the old one, sell it off cos it'll just work for maybe 2-3 months before packing up.

Cheers mate.
Video Games And Gadgets For SaleRe: Xbox 360 S Sales by tiwola: 12:04pm On Sep 14, 2011
Bought mine brand new at Computer Village for N45, 000.
If you're interested in making a business out of this opportunity that you have, I suggest importing accessories, repair kits and used (but fairly new) games.
That's where the need is.
Have a good one.
SportsRe: Reject Brown Ideye Scores Two Goals Again! by tiwola: 3:13pm On Aug 01, 2011
err, Are we talking about the same Brown Ideye that Siasia called for a junior tournament just a few years back, even gave him the captain's band on several starts and for all his ability to bully his way into the 18 yard (he really had that ability, i give him that) couldn't score a single goal?
I don't have a head for dates and all that but it was an Under-21 tournament I believe (wasn't the Olympics tho).

So he's scoring for his club-side now. Very good. Lets give him a chance and hope he's got over his Messi Syndrome. We definitely need all the goals we can get biko.
PoliticsRe: Nigerian Army Begins Local Construction Of Assault Boats by tiwola: 7:50am On Jul 17, 2011
This is probably the best news I've heard on this topic I'm especially passionate about. It's just unfortunate that we're just waking up to something that should have been earning us major forex for decades. The Defense Industries Corporation Of Nigeria (DICON) was set up to do stuff like this but has spent all its energies on local assembly of outdated foreign weapons. The type of stuff that we can't even sell to bloody hunters in the villages.
The global defense industry is worth trillions of dollars if we can get our act right.
Building assault boats is a good start. I hope DICON will follow this up with its own innovations. The funds are there. The government backing is there. The local talent is there. I should know, I drew an original blueprint for a Claymore-Style fragmentation grenade at the tender age of 8.
All in all, I believe this is something we need to press forward with.
