tkovie2002: I spoke to someone over here who told me he has it in stock, but before I thought of leaving to get it, I wanted to do a thorough check again to make sure I wasn't replacing something that isn't bad. I made another mechanic close to my house go under the car and check the sensors, he saw one at the front, close to the bumper disconnected. It has a green 4-pin plug. He connected it back and ensured that the back one was in place too. I decided to drive the car around for a few minutes if I'll notice any changes, but I only got a 0.1 MPG gain which was normal because the car was fluctuating between 8.8 MPG and 9 MPG in between use of regular and premium fuel. When I came back from the short test drive, I told him to disconnect the battery terminals, and replace them again (hoping to reset the whole system). He did that and when I checked my screen if there was any changes, the MPG was showing *.* (which was what I expected as he has just removed the battery terminals and the system has not been able to calculate the MPG since I've not driven it). The DTE (Distance To Empty) was on the same number before the terminal removal. So I told him I needed to drive the car for the whole day and check for changes which I did and I bought premium fuel. During the test drive, I noticed the MPG was increasing slowly which I expected, but to my surprise, later at night, I crossed my usual 8.8 and even my best of 9.0 MPG and recorded 10.1 MPG before I got home. Now, here's my question. Considering my increasing MPG, could there still be a problem? Are the sensors working as they should or do I still need to replace them. I could have gone to scan them but it costs alot and I was considering to get a cheap scanner instead of always going to pay for scanning. I found someone who sells the scanning software and USB cable that will enable me to use my laptop as a scanner. I don't know if that is reliable so I would need your advise. I believe the more I keep driving the car, the more MPG I'll get but one more thing is, the MPG starts reducing slowly too when I'm idling. Please let me know if there's anything I have to do next. PS: There's no catalyst in my car (it got burnt a while ago) Thanks tkovie2002: UPDATE: So far so good, I have recorded 11 MPG from my car MPG calculator. I also want to manually calculate it. Car Talk › Re: Official Nissan & Infiniti Thread by tkovie2002(m): 1:31pm On Nov 18, 2014 |
nissparts: You can easily google the codes instead of expecting help for the "truckload" of issues but i'll chip in this. The front abs sensors are either disconnected or bad. Thats why you have the first 2 codes and thats why your speedometer moves while idle. For the last code, the oxygen sensor on top at the back needs to be checked/replaced.
Note also that you can easily get 8mpg on a 3.5 engine that has no issues if your daily commute is riddled with stop and go traffic. Also, most importantly, the 18/23mpg specification you read is based on usage of PREMIUM fuel which is not available in Nigeria. The Murano and other vehicles requiring premium can never perform optimally fuel economy wise, in this environment Thanks for the help. I reside in Ghana and we do have two grades of fuel over here SUPER(Normal Fuel) & VPOWER (Performance Fuel) which is more expensive. I guess the performance fuel is same as premium fuel and that is what I buy now but I don't see any difference. It was the same mileage I got with super that I got with the performance fuel. As for traffic, my daily commute doesn't have any serious traffic. The worst traffic I find here is not as bad as the ones in Port Harcourt let alone Almighty Lagos traffic. So I don't think that should have any serious effect. I'm not expecting the actual 18/23mpg at least due to the age of the car, but not 8.8 Thats totally ridiculous. Any more suggestions are very much welcome. Thanks |
Car Talk › Re: Error Codes From Nissan Murano by tkovie2002(op): 3:12am On Nov 18, 2014 |
GAZZUZZ: In the future it would be nice to explain all the problems you are facing with your vehicle, including all the warning signals you have on your instrument cluster so we can decipher which is a pending/stored error and which is permanent. When technicians work on your vehicle and remove sockets of sensors when the ignition is turned on or when engine is running, the ecm (brainbox) registers an error which is stored. When the sensor sockets are re-cliped or put back the sensors function might be restored but the error does not go away until cleared using diagnostic equipment. That said I will dwell on just 2 of the codes until you respond. The problem with your excessive fuel consumption is centred around the P1031 - A/F SEN1 HTR(B1),it is a type of oxygen sensor and the harness is either faulty or the part is now defective. Have it replaced before it kills your catalytic converter. https://engine-codes.com/uploads/murano-sensor-location.png The p0550 is a code specific to nissan, and it refers to Power Steering Pressure Sensor Circuit Malfunction, check harness and check sensor.
Thanks for the explanation. Actually by the time I got the car, the catalyst was already damaged so it had to be removed and I've been driving it without a catalyst. The following lights are on when the car is running: 1. ABS 2. AWD 3. SLIP 4. Check Engine 5. VDC 6. Airbag light blinking I hope this will help you give me a better explanation. THanks |

C1103 - FR RH SENSOR - 1
C1107 - FR RH SENSOR - 2
C1143 - ST ANG SEN CIRCUIT
P1111 - INT/V TIM V/CIR-B1
P0550 - PW ST P SEN/CIRC
P1031 - A/F SEN1 HTR(B1)
Please I would like detailed explanations on these codes and possible solutions.
ALSO, My car consumes fuel alot. When I checked online, the average MPG for a 2004 Nissan Murano SE AWD is 18/23 mpg (City / Highway). But my trip computer shows that my car runs on 8.8MPG Which is almost twice the consumption of a 2014 Bentley GTC (15/24 mpg). I thought it was misreading so each time I go to the petrol station, I clear my trip computer and calculate how many miles I drive until my tank goes empty and that is exactly what I get. So please I want you all to proffer the best solutions to my problems as I don't want to spend excess money taking the car to a NISSAN dealership. I have access to a good diagnostic center/Mechanic here but I want to first understand my problem and explore all possible solutions.
This morning, I was doing my regular oil, water and coolant check and when I turned on the car to idle for some minutes, I noticed the odometer needle rising up to 30MPH while the car was running idle and the gear was in Park (P). I'm really confused right now and don't know what next to do.
I hope someone has a solution to my "truckload" of problems LOL.

If its a Nigerian used car, make sure you get the following from the seller:
1. Vehicle Licence 2. Insurance Papers 3. Custom Duty papers 4. Road Worthiness (Where Applicable) 5. Tint Permit (Where Applicable) 6. Proof Of Ownership Certificate
After you pay for the car, endeavour to get the following:
1. Receipt of payment duly signed by seller 2. Change of Ownership Document also signed by seller, yourself and witnesses 3. Proceed to complete change of ownership at the licencing office to completely transfer the vehicle to your name.
NOTE: Make sure the VIN/Chassis Number and Registration Number tally in all these documents. If there is a slight mistake, it could cause a lot of trouble for you.
If possible, make sure you meet the owner of the car and try to establish a proof of ownership of the vehicle. For example, checking the owner's driver's licence or International Passport (better option) to see if his/her name matches the name on the car documents.
*I stand to be corrected though* |

sooperrescue: Lokomike don make una forget Range Rover Sport. Who said that it is expensive to maintain? If you are spending more than 60k to service your Range Rover Sport in a year, change your Mechanic. What else is required to maintain a range? Making sure that the battery is in good condition is the only thing a proud owner should worry about and then the bulbs and brake light switch. All these are basic maintenance for a whole year. If your bushings and ball joints fail, they are 7k a piece. So I dont know where the high maintenance cost come from. Many owners are too busy enjoying the Range that they dont bother to read the manual of the Range. There was a guy that had a beautiful chamson red Range Rover Sport. It had auxilary issues and as such made the Range ineffective in its duties. He took it to some expert who charged him N200k to fix the fault. He got in touch with me and I drove down to Ikoyi to see the Range. I saw a lot of lights on the dashboard and just pressed the high range button, switched off the ignition and started the Range again et voila, all the faults went away, no scanning, just a touch of the button. The suspension rose up and the pump started working. Another day, I saw another Range crawling on its bumps and the guy was managing it to Lekki from Ikeja. He did not know how to raise the ride from access to normal. I stopped them and helped them press the button and the range rose up. Nothing is expensive to repair in the Range Rover Sport or Vogue except through ignorance, we allow the Ride to falter and then we pay much to bring it back to life. You are one person who unknowingly gives me confidence to buy a range rover sport. Nice comment. |

Thank you very much for your advice. I appreciate. nissparts: Check engine light has nothing to do with changing engine oil (mostly) You need a diagnostic scanner to detect what the check light is coming on for and only a fix would turn it off. Smelling oil through the vents is a bad sign. I hope the engine oil was not overfilled. ABS light also means there is a fault with the braking system. A scanner can also point out exactly where the issue is. I strongly recommend you download the user and service manual for the Murano and learn as much as you can about the vehicle. It does not take kindly to novice errors. |
