Interesting thoughts. The kidnappers concern is expected and the app designed to mitigate the risk.

First, your details is not shared with any other user either a random user or someone you have a date with. You only get to talk to people that you have date with, only from the time you accepted till the date is over. You can only meet someone at a public place - and you are advised only to do that. You are in complete control of who you meet, when you meet and where you meet.

The chance of being a victim of kidnapping using the app is as high as the chance of being a victim of kidnaping when you commute from your home to work.

How about given it a try and give us more suggestions.

Thanks and regards.

OK, I have PHP/MySQL at the back, but if it is worth working on i.e if there is a sign that it may be handling millions of traffic, I will convert it to Scala/Mongo DB for scalability.

Pretty simple HTML5, CSS and JavaScript. To port to mobile apps such as Blackberry, iPhone and Android you can consider PhoneGap aka Apache Cordova.

Webmasters / Trafficwatch - Just Watch Traffic, No Typing, No Registrations - Open Source! by TM2: 1:42pm On Jul 10, 2013
I stopped working on this App since Google bought Waze. Who knows someone may just be interested, check it at http://traffic.reinsys.com/ Hosted for demo purposes only. No registration is required, we dont need to know who you are or where you are heading, that is dangerous. You don't need to to type while you drive, that is is also dangerous. But if many people will just turn on the app and drive, traffic will be better managed on our roads. Plus it is open source, if you need the source code or you have an idea we can add lets discuss it here.

Cheers.

This is cool. I will like to mention that I worked on a similar project, I lost interest when Google acquired Waze. It is called TrafficWatch, hosted at http://traffic.reinsys.com for demo purposes. The idea is to allow commuter view traffic density on various routes on a map. This will guide commuter on their route choices with minimum attention to their phones as there wont be a need to send or read text messages. Jut put on the app and check for routes!

Also users are completely anonymous to guaranty their safety as assurance so registration is not required. I don't think I want people to know who I am or where I am heading. You may check it out and let me know what you think. Thanks.

Adoke knocks EFCC, ICPC at Senate screening

By Oluwole Josiah and Toyosi Ogunseye
Friday, 1 Jul 2011

Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Adoke, on Thursday delivered a damning verdict on the country’s anti-corruption agencies, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, as lacking the capacity to investigate and prosecute economic crimes.

Adoke told the Senate that many high profile corruption cases, including the $180m Halliburton bribe scandal, the alleged N50bn Police Equipment Fund fraud and the N3bn Vaswani Brothers rice importation scandal, failed because of the incompetence of the two anti-graft commissions.

He said, “Most of our anti-corruption agencies lack the capacity to do thorough investigations. They lack capacity to collate evidences to sustain a charge and secure conviction in court and until we properly reform these agencies, we will continue to experience the problems we are experiencing today.

“More often than not, people are arrested before they are investigated, they are arrested even before there is evidence, they traumatised them and the people are dramatically tried on the pages of newspapers and at the end of the day, when they are unable to prove their case, they end up blaming the courts.”

He lamented that the agencies had been rather involved in a show, arresting and prosecuting suspects without sufficient evidence to secure conviction in court.

“When we as the Ministry of Justice try to guide these agencies, they complain of interference. It will be appropriate to merge these agencies together so that they can effectively fight corruption,” he said.

Chairman of the EFCC, Mrs. Farida Waziri, just on Wednesday threatened that the agency would soon go after ex-governors suspected to have perpetrated economic crimes during their tenures. She told the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in her office in Abuja that the commission was bidding its time in order to do proper investigations and file water-tight charges against the ex-governors.

Adoke, under whose portfolio the anti-corruption agencies fell, spoke during his screening for another ministerial term. He was confirmed alongside Dr. Usman Shamsudeen, Kano; Musa Sada, Katsina; Mr. Labaran Maku, Nasarawa; Hajia Zainab Maina, Adamawa; and Mrs. Stella Oduah-Ogiemwonyi, Anambra State.

Confirmation of Adoke and the other six brought to 14 the number of ministerial nominees so far confirmed. The Senate had on Wednesday confirmed the nomination of Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, Godsday Orubebe, Prof. Ruqqayatu Rufai, Mr. Emeka Wogu, Sen. Bala Mohammed, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, and Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade (retd.).

Adoke also canvassed the merger of the EFCC and ICPC to be able to prosecute the anti-corruption war.

The EFCC on Thursday refused to react to the ex-minister’s verdict. “We are not reacting to what he said,” spokesman for the EFCC, Mr. Femi Babafemi, told one of our correspondents on the phone.

ICPC spokesman, Folu Olamiti, said the commission was on top of its duties and “do not amend charges.”

“At ICPC, we do our jobs well. We make sure that we do thorough investigations before going to court,” he said.

The Halliburton scandal, in which a subsidiary of the American firm was said to have bribed some high profile citizens a total of $180m in exchange for lucrative contracts had been a running case with many twists, including a dramatic 16-count charge against former US Vice President D. Cheney on December 8, 2010 by the EFCC. But while some of the foreign individuals and firms that were involved in the unholy deal had been convicted in their home countries, no Nigerian has been found wanton at home.

In reviewing the Halliburton scandal on Thursday, Adoke told the Senate: “The Halliburton case, sir, has been on for a number of years in this country. A lot of our high profile personalities have been diminished by allegations and counter allegations as to whether they were involved in the Halliburton case or not.

“I decided to confront the issue once and for all. I called for the reports and went through the reports. I found out that there were no sufficient evidences linking any of our past leaders in respect of the said Halliburton scandal.

“Those of them that we could identify, including Halliburton itself, Julius Berger and others, we decided to evaluate the position of our laws and the weaknesses inherent in our laws. At the end of the day, in line with global best practices, we opted to settle with them, because if we had decided to prosecute them, the likelihood of securing a conviction was very minimal.”

He buttressed his stand with the case of the Vaswani Brothers, where the government prosecuted the Indians but lost the cases, adding that, at a point, the court awarded damages in favour of the Vaswanis on the grounds of malicious prosecution.

The Vaswani Brothers Mahesh, Haresh and Sunil-were in 2009 arraigned by the EFCC for allegedly committing a N3bn import duty fraud against the Federal Government but they were found innocent by the court.

Adoke explained that while ICPC had the responsibility of fighting official corruption, the EFCC was responsible for the tackling of economic crimes and money laundering, adding that whenever the attention of the agencies were drawn to anomalies in their operations, they considered it as an interference.

The EFCC was established in 2003 by the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo to confront economic crimes and money laundering. Waziri, last December, told the US ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Terrence Mcculley, that the agency in its seven years had recovered $11 billion (about N1.6 trillion) from corrupt elements in the country. She also said the commission had also recorded 400 convictions, most of them of Politically- Exposed Persons, during the same period.

The ICPC was inaugurated by the same Obasanjo administration in September 2000 to receive complaints, investigate and prosecute economic offenders in the public sector. In its more than 10 years of existence, it has secured fewer than 20 convictions while it has hundreds of cases pending in courts.

Education / Re: Look Who Is Going To School In Nigeria: The Statistics May Surprise You by TM2: 1:56pm On Jun 26, 2011
It is so painful to know that I live in a country where everybody hates me and detests my culture and tribe. They say that I am dirty, they say I eat too much oil, they cant eat my stew because it is soup to them, they even say that I added too much pepper. They say I eat something that resembles black soap. They even say I dont know how to dress, in fact, they say that my sisters are too fat! And now they say I dont have brain and my people dont go to school.

I served in the east and everyday I spent in a town near Owerri is memorable. And for several years after I tell people I want to marry an Igbo girl, it is not that I never sae something I dont quite appreciate in them, but does where you come from define who you are? It puzzled my landlady and her children that everybody in my nuclear and extended family is a university graduate. They wont stop rubbing my meager allowance on my face when their son sends in money from China. But I still love them and we still communicate after 6 years. They think the only place I know outside "ibadan" is their village. (The only reason I know about Ibadan is because I went to school there, but did i need to tell the that or that I have been to almost all the states in Nigeria) The felt I am not as smart as their sons because they have larger farmlands and I cant climb the palm tree and I was thought how to ride a bicycle by a 12 year old girl. I think they ought to pardon my laziness and underexposure to their kind of civilization. The even think that I am lazy but that is why I went to school, and I have no regrets. They felt I am duller than I actually am, because I dint have to show to them how quickly I learned the language. May be I should have been more expressive and let them know that it is not every soup they cooked or every meal made of breadfruit tasted as great as they think. But I appreciated that they offered me a piece of their culture, tradition and heritage, I just wish they were willing to accept mine, but sad they they thought mine and even me are inferior.

It is noteworthy that I got a recommendation from Prof. Humphrey Anyawu after my service year, and they dint know that was far desirable then what they expected of the famous Nigerian that lived next door. The notably most educated man in the community is disliked because of his "aka superglue".

My perception of Imo State is that there are more girls in schools than boys, I have not statistics for that but I have regular visits to Alvan Ikoku College of Education, and out of 36 student teachers posted to the school where I served, only 2 are male. That was fascinating.

Whatever you say, I will forever be proud to be a Yoruba man. And you will never have the gut to beat me in what I do for as long as you think you are better than me. Shame on you! The problem is not the tribe you come from, it is what tribalism has made of you.

That is what you said.

I am sure they also said that they dint do anything wrong, either. Or did i miss something?
Politics / Re: N38b: No Court Can Try Me - Bankole; Demands Apology From Farida by TM2: 9:32am On Jun 26, 2011
They have basically said the others did nothing wrong as it was just assembly expense, whilst they have put themselves forward as people that committed fraud.

If that is accepted then every other thing they said should be accepted. It is not about what they say, it is about what is right and fair. If you were one of the other members outside of the 39, would you accept to benefit from the proceeds?
Politics / Re: N38b: No Court Can Try Me - Bankole; Demands Apology From Farida by TM2: 9:19am On Jun 26, 2011
It is cowardice for someone to sit quietly and watch others get punished for something he benefited maximally from.
Politics / Re: N38b: No Court Can Try Me - Bankole; Demands Apology From Farida by TM2: 7:20am On Jun 25, 2011
The point has clearly been made. The activities were within a legal bound. The focus should be on fixing a broken system, such that we can prevent people in government and not just assembly members from exploring the flaws. Making Bankole look like the only guilty one is not fair and it wont lead us anywhere useful, the accusers am sure are also guilty of similar offenses. That is the height of face saving hypocrisy. We should all rise to defend our country and her resources - that is if we truly care. It is not yet time to point fingers, the constitution has to be reviewed as a matter of urgency. If a three arm government doesnt work, we can surely try something else.
Politics / Re: N38b: No Court Can Try Me - Bankole; Demands Apology From Farida by TM2: 4:56pm On Jun 24, 2011
WisdomV:

Yes o! That is the only reason he can sign such. Logically.

People arent looking at the bigger picture, anyway, this money is big enough to blind us. And someone asked if it is monthly or annually. I still need answer to that. And I need figures about spending at the senate and presidency. Plus the governors, too.
