Business / Re: NCC: MTN Is The Only Telecoms Company Making Profit by TMoni1(m): 11:27am On Jul 18, 2012
This is very very true! This companies are multinationals and not only are they audited by reputable independent auditors they are audited by multiple foreign interests.
Operating overhead in Nigeria is enormous with very wide cost structure ranging from NCC levies/charges, Site maintainance cost, leased capacity cost, diesel cost, high valued equipment maintainance contracts, community relation costs, multiple goverment permit/levies/taxes etc.

MTN has closed to 45% of the market and that is why they are the only one making profit for now. i can categorically say all other telco sharing 55% market amongst themselve are making huge losses.

londoner: @Jennykadry.....I agree that Nigerian who come over should do their best to live by the rules and adopt a way of life that does not show Nigeria/ns in a bad light.

Having said that though, other African nationalities that are already here in numbers, especially the Sudanese and Kenyans, actually have a bad reputation.

Some Sudanese actually parade themselves pitifully in Perth. The young girls dress in clothes that hardly cover their body and go about targeting older Oz men to use for money. The Kenyans are often involved in benefit fraud. They try and claim refugee status by telling the Oz authorities that they are Sudanese and basically live off benefits.

Many of the non Naija communities in Oz are getting involved in gang crime, drug dealing and getting pregnant in their teens and live on state assistance.

I do know that a small number of Nigerians have begun their 419 activities in Oz. I would say the student and professional classes of Nigerians are more in number though. But, one Nigerian fraudster is one too many IMO. There are a small number of Nigerian I have met in Australia so far, some put me off because of their usual mentality (which I'm sorry to say is general among Africans imo). To be honest, I prefer to keep my distance generally, until I run into some that have a different mindset.

All where gainfully employed though, either in professions or business owners. I think, in contrast to London, Australia is attracting Nigerians that are educated and established in Nigeria or elsewhere. At the very least they seem to be coming to Oz to study. They rarely come to Oz out of desperation or hunger....

I get your concern though, it's one I share.

why are african so pathetic? polluting everywhere...

I will suggest you go for regional sponsored visa, its much more faster than any other visa class.
So your next step is to do your IELTS and after that you apply to any state/regional govt of your chioce for sponsorship. when you get a suitable reply from them, then you can go ahead and do you EOI. best of luck

Sis you seem to be a veteran nairalander. You seem to be a nigerian living in aussie I guess. Could you please oblige by dropping me a email temi.abrahams@gmail.com.
quemark: Hmn, love 9ja so so very much. But when i think of how the bane of bribery and corruption is affecting our system i cry 4 nigeria. I just pray our leaders change 4 better and do the right thing as soon as possible . University graduants are unable to get good job, the unprecedented extortion by govt agencies, High Nepa bills with zero power supply, undescribable tax is levied on few industries or local businesses without provision of infrastructures e. Just consider the $3m bribe that was just uncovered in the national house of assembly involving farouk lawan, a member of national house. Even though ur monthly take home is enough to sustain u for the whole year can you sleep at night without peeping from your window trying to see the group of armed pandits trying to hit neighbours house if yours i managed to be spared. Just pray God shld help us rehuild this country.
I feel you bro, its sad. The potential in our country and its youth are constantly milked by political elite. We seem to be seating on a time bomb. May God not allow it explode.

canuck:

Yeah, yeah! Nigerians already pay more than 10 times the call rates of Kenyans, and there is no regular power in Kenya, Al-Shabab terrorists are blowing up Nairobi, etc.

Check-out the Telcos' profit margins in Nigeria versus other countries and you will see that Telcos are milking Nigerians dry!

Telcos should pay-up and step-up their services to the people jor.

I am sure all of them are so wicked so much so that they have conived again the nigerian people after investing billions of dollar.
Brother! The question is not about the profit its about the multiplicity of technical issues that are unending and this telco spend huge sums of money to tackle all by themselve without govt help, even some of them created by the govt that wants to fine them.

The same reason malnufacturing companies are packing and leaving the country.

Nigerian enviroment is almost an impossible enviroment

ifihearam: They have the money, let them pay
Afterall I do not see what we the subscribers benefit from them sef.
In better countries, they make free weekends call.

In those countries you dont run over 15000 20KVA diesel generators 24hrs per day and consumes over 5000 litres of diesel per month to keep up the network.
In those countries you dont battle area boys every time you need to enter your base station to maintain or refuel.
In those countries you dont battle fibre vandals causing service failures
In thise countries you dont pay multiple taxations to all the organs of government.
In thos countries you dont communities making multiple demands on your base stations.

the networks are spending billions of dollar to expand and maintain the network. the investors are the most impacted in terms of revenue loss.

Emirate is not saying the truth

The truth is naija is worst than what they have said.
I guess people castigating emirate don't leave in nigeria of the present!!!

Nigeria is a country you come to and die in air mishap
Nigeria is the country you get like 10 419 calls and texts daily!
Nigeria is the country you get robbed and carried away in ur car to an unknown bush or in d middle of third mainland bridge.
Nigeria is d country where policemen rob you in broad day light
Nigeria is d country where you get robbed in traffic and fellow nigerians look on
Nigeria is d country you travel to ur village and get kidnaped for ransom and they still kill you.
Nigeria is the country d road is sooo bad it collects d steer wheels from you hands and swave you into a ditch.
Nigeria is d country where you kingsmen jazz you and kill you because you're helping dem
Nigeria is d country where we celebrate corruption
Nigeria is d coubtry where the rich constantly oppresses the poor without justice
Nigeria is where police wake up and raids your neighbourhood and you get into jail for a crime you don't know of.
Etc
How I wish emirate had said the complete truth and nothing but the truth.
Travel / Re: What Motivates Diasporans To Relocate Back To Nigeria? by TMoni1(m): 7:43pm On Jun 09, 2012
Common your question is not rocket science.

They can break the law and be completely lawless here and get away with it.
Its easy to make money illegally here.
Its easy to be corrupt and you get away with it
They all wanna share of the national loot
It easy to use a liitle money to get a lot of follower dat will shout "rankadede" after you.
Its easy to evade and avoid tax without the law catching up with you.

How ever, there are some dat came to help and develop the country but offen time they get jazzed, maimed, robbed, killed in plane crashes etc.

I rest my case!

I really don't understand why some retarded fellows will support the incompetence and employees dat claims to be bigger than its employer. This doctors are definitely out of line and they should remain sacked 1million times. I bet all of you here supporting d doctor have neva experienced how dis people work, there salaries should even be reduced as far as am concerned.

We all know politicians are jacks but if you're not satisfied with your employer...resign!!! And not be your employers oga.

The doctors on leave were neva sacked! A friend is in dat category.
