Charleston shooting suspect, 21-year-old Dylann Roof, has been taken into custody in North Carolina, law enforcement authorities said. He was arrested Thursday morning about three hours away near Shelby, North Carolina. A law enforcement official says witnesses told them Dylann Roof was at the church for about an hour, then stood up and said he was there “to shoot black people.” Officials said they believe Roof acted alone. “I am so pleased we were able to resolve this case quickly,” Charleston Police Chief Gregory Mullen said at a news conference. The suspect opened fire on a bible study group at the historic predominantly black Emanuel AME Church on Calhoun Street, killing eight people in an “unfathomable” act of violence. One other person was rushed to the hospital and died. I’m glad that authorities acted swiftly to apprehend him. Why would a 21-year-old be filled with so much hate? It’s sad. RIP to the deceased. http://infonubia.com/2015/06/21-year-old-charleston-shooting-suspect-dylann-roof-arrested.html |

The family of Matthew Ajibade continues to mourn the loss of their 21-year-old son who was placed in police custody after a call was made for domestic violence back in January. Chatham County coroner William Wessinger said on Thursday that the college student’s cause of death “is listed as blunt force trauma, which was really a combination of several things that were enumerated in his autopsy report by the GBI,” the coroner said, citing “abrasions, lacerations, skin injuries about the head and some other areas of the body. There was some small amount of blood inside the skull case.” Wessinger stressed that homicide simply means that another person was involved. It is not tantamount to murder, though it includes murder, he said. Gena Bibo, the spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s office in Chatham county in Georgia noted that “nine Chatham County deputies have been fired in connection tion with Ajibade’s death last month. Two of those nine deputies had been on paid leave for “inappropriate actions” in the case,” Bilbo said. Ajibade died in custody after he “became combative during the booking process,” the sheriff’s office said in an incident report. During the alleged argument, three deputies were injured, including a female sergeant who suffered a concussion and broken nose. These allegations are not sitting well with the family members who said Ajibade was a loving “geeky kid” who had traveled to Savannah, Georgia to study computer science. The family’s lawyer criticized the sheriff’s office for keeping all this information hidden for so long. “First of all, they knew (the cause of death) back in January, I’m sure. This (death certificate) was signed May 8, and a month later we find out about it … . I just don’t see how they can be so insensitive to the man, and insensitive to the family’s grief,” O’Mara said. “They have hid this from us for five months. It makes no sense. We still need questions answered how Matthew’s life was taken from him,” the attorney said. “Ajibade was diagnosed with bipolar disorder three years ago and was having a medical emergency at the time of his arrest and confinement. The woman whom he identified as his girlfriend gave them a bottle of his medication.” The family and their attorney are demanding more details about the death of Matthew Ajibade. They have initiated an independent investigation. http://infonubia.com/2015/06/coroner-ruled-death-of-nigerian-student-in-police-custody-homicide.html |

Wonders, they say, shall never end. This is about as weird as it gets! How can a newborn baby girl be born pregnant with twins? Is your jaw still dropped? Okay, you can pick it up now. People Magazine reports that researchers say that a baby girl, who was born at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Hong Kong in 2010, was pregnant with twin fetuses. It was originally believed that the baby had two tumors in her abdomen, but it turned out they were fetuses instead. The Hong Kong Medical Journal report stated that “the fetuses were developed enough that they each had a spine, intestines, bones with bone marrow, “primitive” brain matter, an anus, a rib cage and an umbilical cord.” Fewer than 200 cases of this rare condition called Fetus-in-fetu have been documented to date. I’m even surprised at the number. It’s way too many. Dr. Yu Kai-man, a medical professional said “since it is impossible for the little girl to have conceived the pregnancy on her own, the fertilization of the twin fetuses, of course, belongs to her parents, which has gone to the wrong place.” At just three weeks old, the baby eventually underwent surgery to remove the fetuses, and researchers revealed that they had gestated up to 10 weeks. Wow! http://infonubia.com/2015/02/say-what-hong-kong-baby-girl-born-pregnant-with-twins.html |

The top 3 most successful rappers of 2014 - Reminisce, Olamide & Phyno - collaborate on this monster track - Local Rappers. This heavy tune is the second single of Reminisce's "Baba Hafusa" album which will be released later this year. The song was produced by Tyrone. On January 18th 2015, the Nigerian government through the Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke, in an unprecedented move, announced that the pump price of fuel (petrol) is reduced from N97 ($0.52) to N87 ($0.46) per liter. That's a N10/liter reduction (1 liter is about quarter of a gallon). On first thought, this pump price reduction is a welcomed development, especially when you consider that nothing goes up and comes down in Nigeria (in most cases), except for the price of Dangote Cement and the reduction in the initially proposed fuel price which led to the "Occupy Nigeria" protests in 2012. I live in America, so for the purpose of this post, I'll reference the United States. Please note that I don't intend to make a direct comparison between Nigeria and the U.S. They are two different countries that have gone through different democratic experiences. Sometimes, we unfairly compare both countries and Nigeria is always at the shorter end of the stick. In the U.S., the forces of demand and supply determine the prices of commodity. That's why the economy here is majorly referred to as a Capitalist Economy. In regards to oil, there's no set pump price; the cost per barrel of crude oil ultimately determines how much we pay at the pump. At the time of writing this post, a barrel of crude oil sells for about $49. To put it in perspective, a barrel of oil was about $113 and gas prices in Texas was over $3 per gallon around this time in 2014. Right now I can get gas for $1.67/gallon. You see that the pump prices rise and fall with crude oil prices. In Nigeria however, the price of fuel at the pump is set by the government. That takes away any form of flexibility in the market. According the government, the N97/liter price is still heavily subsidized. I bet the new price is still subsidized. After this new pump was announced, some Nigerians opined that the government can do better than the "N10 change" and even suggested that prices should be returned to the $56/liter what it used to be prior to the 2012 hike. The Goodluck Jonathan led government has argued for the removal of oil subsidy, claiming that it costs the government so much money and the money realized from the subsidy removed can be used to build infrastructure and further develop the country. The government's argument seems reasonable, if (a big IF) the free market is allowed to determine the pump price and not setting a fixed price. Unfortunately, a long history of corruption and mismanagement makes the argument difficult to sell to Nigerians. How do we know that some group of oil cabals wouldn't embezzle all that money? Can we even trust the free market to behave as it ideally should? The last thing we want is a situation where crude oil prices fall (like it now is) and consumers are not feeling the effect at the pump. Trust me, this can very well be the case. With all these, I ask: Should the subsidy be removed and let the forces of demand and supply determine fuel price? Keep in mind that the oil market (as with most commodity) is like a sine curve; it rises and falls over time :-D . Share your thoughts! http://infonubia.com/2015/01/is-it-time-to-let-the-free-market-determine-fuel-price-in-nigeria.html |
Finally, there's some ray of hope on cases of Ebola in Liberia. According to Reuters, the Liberian government reports that as of the 12th of January 2015, there are only 10 confirmed cases in the entire country. "My projection is that, if we do everything possible, we can reach zero by the end of the February," Deputy Health Minister Tolbert Nyenswah, who heads Liberia's Ebola task force, said. According to Nyenswah, only two of the country's 15 counties still had Ebola cases. Liberia is one of the three worst hit countries by the deadly Ebola virus, with more than 3,500 deaths. Progress has also been made in Sierra Leone - which has recorded the highest number of cases - and Guinea. I so happy that this epidemic is finally coming to an end. May the souls of those lost to the deadly virus rest in peace...Amen. http://infonubia.com/2015/01/liberia-hopes-to-be-ebola-free-by-end-of-february.html |
