Northern Irish schoolboy Christopher Atherton became the youngest senior footballer in the United Kingdom at 13 years and 329 days old when he played for Glenavon on Tuesday.

The teenager came on as a second-half substitute in their 6-0 win over Dollingstown in the League Cup.

And he made a quick impact, providing an assist for Glenavon's sixth goal.

Atherton breaks a 42-year-old record set by Eamon Collins, who played for Blackpool aged 14 years and 323 days.

Collins made his Blackpool debut on 9 September 1980.

Worth pointing out that Chelsea women actually beat their u18 team.... But these boys look young.
Sports / Arsenal U15 Boys Beat Arsenal Women 5-0 by TobiAbuja: 7:52am On Aug 31, 2022
Arsenal Women's pre-season preparations got off to a rocky start after they were beaten 5-0 by the boys' U15 side in a friendly.

The match - which saw winger Chido Obi score a hat-trick - took place behind closed doors as last season's Women's Super League runners-up began preparations for the new season.

Arsenal refused to confirm any further details about the friendly to Sportsmail, but it is believed several senior players from Jonas Eidevall's squad were not involved in the fixture, with many currently on international duty.

Lionesses including Euro 2022-winning captain Leah Williamson and the likes of Beth Mead, Lotte Wubben-Moy and Jordan Nobbs have been called up by Sarina Wiegman for World Cup qualifiers against Austria and Luxembourg in the next week.

Childhood fan Williamson was seen celebrating both goals passionately as the women's side watched on before heading off for international duty.

Their latest result comes just three months after boss Eidevall told The Athletic he planned to have his team face the boys' U16s in an attempt to get them ready for opponents in the Champions League.

'We have to have a good cooperation with our boys' academy to involve them in practices and internal games, so we can play against something more physical and faster than we will ever play against in the Champions League, in order to set the benchmark,' the Swede said in May.

That's an astonishing opportunity that most football teams around the world would give everything in order to do; to see if we can make our training harder than the games.

'That means if we're successful in training, then we will for sure be successful in games as well. We'll have a little bit more time and it will be a little bit easier.

'That's more something to speak to Per Mertesacker (Arsenal boys' academy manager) with. Under-15 or 16 is usually a good age group where the physicality hasn't grown so much on all the players. They are a little faster than our players but it's not impossible to play against.'

Arsenal will be hoping to go one better this season in the Women's Super League after being pipped to the title by Emma Hayes' Chelsea last season.

The Blues were also in recent pre-season action, with Sam Kerr, Magdalena Eriksson, Millie Bright and Jessie Fleming all playing in a 4-3 win against their men's U18s at the training ground.

The Gunners meanwhile kick off the new campaign with a tough trip to face Manchester City on September 11.

Word of advice - if you want to see these artifacts together then book a flight to London and visit this museum. They'll be 'lost', under 'repair', or 'loaned' within as they get to Nigeria. I wonder how many of the original 36 will be on display? Single figures?

Science/Technology / 7 Year Old Boy Blamed After Chess Robot Breaks His Finger In Match (video) by TobiAbuja: 11:43pm On Jul 24, 2022

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJxS8GmV5hg

A chess-playing robot broke a child's finger during a tournament in Russia last week, with the incident being captured in CCTV footage.

The robot grabbed the seven-year-old boy's finger because it was confused by his overly-quick movements, Russian media outlets reported, quoting the President of the Moscow Chess Federation - who seemingly blamed the child.

'The robot broke the child's finger - this, of course, is bad,' Sergey Lazarev told Russia's TASS news agency, while distancing his organisation from the robot.

The incident occurred at the Moscow Open on July 19. Lazarev said that the federation had rented the robot for the event, which ran from July 13 to 21.

Lazarev said that the machine had been hired for many previous events without incident, saying the boy went to move a piece too quickly after making a move.

'The robot was rented by us, it has been exhibited in many places, for a long time, with specialists. Apparently, the operators overlooked it,' Lazarev said.

'The child made a move, and after that we need to give time for the robot to answer, but the boy hurried , the robot grabbed him. We have nothing to do with the robot.'

Video of the incident was published by the Baza Telegram channel, who said the boy's name was Christopher. Baza said he was among the 30 best chess players in Moscow in the under-nine age group category.

According to The Guardian, Sergey Smagin, vice-president of the Russian Chess Federation, went even further in blaming the boy.

'There are certain safety rules and the child, apparently, violated them. When he made his move, he did not realise he first had to wait,' The Guardian quoted Smagin as saying. 'This is an extremely rare case, the first I can recall.'

Upon grabbing the boy's finger, the mechanical arms freezes in place, trapping the boy who begins to panic. Several people standing around the table rush in to help him, and after a few seconds are able to free him from the robot's grip.

Lazarev said in his statement that the boy was able to return to the tournament the following day in a case, and finished the tournament.

However, he told TASS that the boy's parents had contacted the public prosecutor's office about the incident, and that his organisation had been contacted by Moskomsport - the Department of Sport for the Russian capital.

He offered to help the family 'in any way we can,' and warned that the operators of the robot were going to have to 'think about strengthening protection so that this situation does not happen again.'

Smagin told RIA Novosti that the incident was a 'concidence' and said the robot is 'absolutely safe,' The Guardian reported.

'It has performed at many opens. Apparently, children need to be warned. It happens,' Smagin said - calling the robot 'unique'.

The Queen's Guard, British Guards, and Queen's Life Guard (called King's Guard and King's Life Guard when the reigning monarch is male) are the names given to contingents of infantry and cavalry soldiers charged with guarding the official royal residences in the United Kingdom. The British Army has regiments of both Horse Guards and Foot Guards predating the English Restoration (1660), and since the reign of King Charles II these regiments have been responsible for guarding the Sovereign's palaces. The Guards are fully operational soldiers.

A picture of a member of Queen Elizabeth II's guard receiving water to drink during the hot weather outside Buckingham Palace in London on Monday is going viral amid the heatwave that has pushed temperatures into the mid-40s Celsius in some regions of Britain.

Much of Europe is baking in a heatwave with wildfires raging across tinder-dry countryside in Portugal, Spain and France.

A first-ever red “extreme heat” warning for parts of England on Monday and Tuesday has been issued by the weather forecaster and a national emergency has been declared for the two days. Britain had recorded its highest ever temperature on July 25, 2019 and it was 38.7 degrees Celsius.

The heatwave has forced the train companies to cancel services and some schools to close, while ministers urged the public to stay at home. London's metro network imposed temporary speed restrictions, meaning it would run a reduced service with journeys taking longer than normal. It urged commuters to stay at home, according to Reuters.

On Sunday, authorities across southern Europe battled to control huge wildfires in these countries, with hundreds of deaths blamed on soaring temperatures that scientists say are consistent with climate change.

Also, Britain's Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has raised the heat health warning to Level 4 for England for Monday and Tuesday, news agency Reuters reported. A Level 4 red alert is defined as a national emergency, and is used when a heatwave "is so severe and/or prolonged that its effects extend outside the health and social care system. At this level, illness and death may occur among the fit and healthy, and not just in high-risk groups."

Unfortunately for her this stage, where fellow MPs vote, is only the first stage. By far the hardest will be when the 100k conservatives members are given a vote, and they are mostly elderly, traditional people who live in rural areas.

Nice move how?

Is Southampton FC that might be fighting for relegation next season, a better team than Rangers, champions of the Scottish League and will be in Europe next season?

He has got a bad agent, otherwise the best was for the Agent to negotiate for better pay for Joe.

Most of the teams in the Scottish league couldn't even compete in League One/Two standard in England. There is no competition bar Celtic.

Playing in the biggest league in the world, against world class players, will make all the difference in his development.
