Respect is universal,however its practice is often culture and environment influenced. Three things make respect in the north strong: Religion ( Islam) which is rigid , education ( at low ebb) and women empowerment ( or entrepreneurship which is at low ebb)
Down south, women empowerment is on the increase, they kinda know their rights bla bla.They are educated and hence earn their living sans men.
Religion ( Christianity) is flexible and not rigid like Islam. Submission in the bible is not FIRST provision inclined though implied but an order. “Wives, submit to your husbands, while husbands love your wives.” Many comfortable men in the south forbid their wives from working and take the full responsibility of the house, yet their wives still disrespect, become ungrateful and still cheat. Concerning women sharing men's provisional responsibilities, isn't marriage about partnership ? A wife is meant to be a suitable partner, not a suitable parasite. She should assist when the man doesn't have enough. If her co-assisting makes her to be unsubmissive, that makes her a bad partner. Are you insinuating that once men give total provision in the family then the women should turn to slaves and be at every warranted and unwarranted beck and call of their husbands? Are you suggesting that in critical times like pregnancy, health issues, travel ,emergency or any unavailability, once the man is fully providing for the family, that means he should not help at all?
