The federal government has offered the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) N65bn to resolve the ongoing strike which has lasted for 10 months. Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige made the proposal on behalf of the government to the striking lecturers when they met in Abuja on Friday November 20. He said the negotiation was fruitful as the government has decided to shift grounds on the lingering issues that have kept students out of the classroom for several months. Ngige told reporters that the Accountant-General of the Federation ( AGF) has offered to release N40 billion or in the alternative, N35 billion to be shared by all the registered Trade Unions in the universities after providing necessary evidence of having earned the allowance. He said; “The FG reiterated that her offer of N40 billion or 35 billion whichever is accepted by ASUU was for all the universities unions: ASUU had proposed that N40 billion be paid immediately for all unions." The Minister who stated that all vice-chancellors are to submit details of the EAA/EA to the National Universities Commission (NUC) on or before November 30, added that the Federal Ministry of Labour and Federal Ministry of Education will review the issue of “no work, no pay” as stipulated in Section 43 of the Trade Disputes Act Cap T8 laws of the federation of Nigeria, 2004 with a view to getting approval for the withheld salaries to be paid. |
Nothing yet o. Beress: |
Let's say this week cos everyones own may land at different days. My source is from the bursary in a federal university. Let's all be hopeful. It's closer than it was months ago. Thanks younglekky19: |
I got info that's NMWA wil be paid this week. I can't independently verify this info. But I think it's gonna happen soonest |
The Director-General of the Budget Office, Ben Akabueze, has stated that about 428 government agencies will find it difficult to pay the salaries of their workers by the end of November. Akabueze, who raised the alarm when he appeared before Senate Committee on Public Account today November 10, blamed the development on the new minimum wage that was implemented among federal workers in January this year. He said since the introduction of the new minimum wage, most of the agencies have been struggling to pay the salaries of their workers in the last 10 months. He, however, assured the committee that government will dip its hand into the service-wide vote to cater for the shortfall in the salaries of the affected workers in the said parastatals. “428 agencies will not be able to pay salary by the end of November. We will have to take from service wide vote to take care of the short fall in workers salaries.” Akabueze said |
Nothing yet o. Everywhere is like a graveyard. We pray it comes soon. Don't know the reason for delay. The money is available wy not pay workers edogu: |
I just tire for the govt oh. Nothing yet for federal non academic staff yet. LudaChriz: |
Good idea and that will work out when we all do it in unison cos the unions leaders are pretending as if they don't know that there is anything like minimum wage. God will judge our leaders. ibbo: |
I agree with you but how do we do that? Cos it seems as no one is talking fg is quiet also. As for the union leaders especially SSANU, they are good for nothing. ibbo: |
No need to even talk about the unions. If the govt is clueless and irresponsible, then u can imagine how the unions are. The unions only know how to collect money and dues. Jombojombo: |
I tire o. No news yet. Sometimes I wonder the kind of government that we have. 7victor: |
Well someine I knew collected like 115,000 NMWA last December. So i don't think it will be that small. He is FGGC Benin and he's on level 9.(quote author=bnbash post=93348528] My friend NMWA has been implemented long ago. I guess you must have noticed an increament on what u used to get as your salary evend if its 1500. The arears is not going to be much also probably not more than 25 - 30K.
|
From What I heard, they said they will pay then they will ask all federal workers to resume fully. But since they've not paid I'm not sure they have the liver to ask then to resume. But I'm hearing early next month. harrisonfo: |
No info from US here in Edo state and UNIBEN. The silence is deafening. Fabregas1109: |
That's true month hasn't ended. Let's keep hope alive. Thanks. ashafson: |

Well u know that this month's payslip is still not available so I won't I'll now what the addition is for. But I called a colleague that said that deduction of 10k was done from his pay this time. So the whole thing is confusing right now. Waiting for clarity in coming days NgeneUkwuneee: |

Was there an increase in u pay this month? harrisonfo: |
UNIBEN non academic staff alert received. An increase by like 18k. Don't know what the increase is yet. Maybe minimum wage increase. The arrears is just days away |
Which university pls saraki2019: |
Not yet oh. It seems it may delay till next week. My thoughts though 7victor: |
So sorry bout u predicament. U will need to see your school busar so he can get u ur payslip. And u may have to write tru u busar to IPPIS regarding over deduction. It will eventually be resolved but may take a bit of time. okhiai1: |
From 4k to 25k, that's too bad of the govt. That has definitely eroded the minimum wage increase. (quote author=ashafson post=92184821] exactly, we in the tertiary institution dont have any idea on the killer tax untill feb 2020 moreover the tax increase was bill was put into law in feb 2020 and that what made it look like we were not paying tax b4. for example b4 feb 2020, i was paying 4k as tax but now it is 25k
|
Oshe. Ur on point bro thanks. We learn everyday ashafson: |
Well I don't know about that but I think unneeded to first ask those in your MDA if they have been paid minimum wage arrears or if minimum wage has been increased. I think u will immediately start earning minimum wage. Thanks Alexjayson: |
Bro ure good. U nailed it. Thanks for insight ashafson: |
Well, u may be right though that minimum wage has been paid but the minimum wage payment for others was immediately preceded by the arrears so I felt that since we as federal tertiary hav not received the arrears then it's has not been included for us since we they started paying us. [quote author=ibbo post=92166865hought IPPIS claimed they have paid tertiary institution their minimum wage right from the day they started paying tertiary institution. The only thing they admitted not yet paid is the arrears, which they have promised to pay as soon as salary is stabilized. so i'm surprised at your assertion, that they are yet to pay tertiary institution minimum wage. As it is, based on projection the minimum wage arrears will span from April last year to January this year. Since IPPIS started in February this year
|
No it's not been added cos once it's added a few days later they will pay the arrears. OR they will pay the arrears and some days later, u will see an increase in the your pay for that month. What I am sure of now is that minimum wage arrears is some days away cos there has been a stability in the particular days of payment. For example, NBTI have been constantly paid on the 26th for past few months this is a pointer to stability in IPPIS system. And they is usually preceded by thebnew minimum wage arrears. This has been confirmed by even people that have got the minimum wage arrears is past from those in Federal govemnet colleges to those in Federal health institutions. So I guess federal tertiary institutions are days ahead of celebration Jombojombo: |
Well everyone will receive according to their level in the govt service but I know someone that's a teacher in Federal govt girls college in Benin city edo state, he received additional 11 or 12k per month. At the end he received like 105-110k which covers a period of April to December 2019 and that amount was added to the minimum wage before the arrears came around December last year. So for the teriary institution workers that have not received since April last ur till now, u can do the calculation. That's about 15months arrears. I think if u in level 9, u may take additional like 14-15k additional Pay rise. So for those teriary workers that have not received minimum wage, once u pay rises significantly this week Friday when they pay, just know that the minimum wage will hit the following week. It's a 3-4days interval. lecturer50: |
