kettykin: The Victors were Soviet Union and Britain who came into the scene to maintain their hold on Africa
"The Winner Takes It All"
I don't wanna talk
About things we've gone
through
Though it's hurting me
Now it's history
I've played all my cards
And that's what you've done too
Nothing more to say
No more ace to play
The winner takes it all
The loser's standing small
Beside the victory
That's her destiny
I was in your arms
Thinking I belonged there
I figured it made sense
Building me a fence
Building me a home
Thinking I'd be strong there
But I was a fool
Playing by the rules
The gods may throw the dice
Their minds as cold as ice
And someone way down here
Loses someone dear
The winner takes it all
The loser has to fall
It's simple and it's plain
Why should I complain?
But tell me does she kiss
Like I used to kiss you?
Does it feel the same
When she calls your name?
Somewhere deep inside
You must know I miss you
But what can I say?
Rules must be obeyed
The judges will decide
The likes of me abide
Spectators of the show
Always staying low
The game is on again
A lover or a friend
A big thing or a small
The winner takes it all
I don't wanna talk
If it makes you feel sad
And I understand
You've come to shake my hand
I apologize
If it makes you feel bad
Seeing me so tense
No self-confidence
But you see
The winner takes it all
The winner takes it all...

slimghost: @Tolexander

Can you now answer my question now sir?
since you have answered the question to your fallacious statement what is now the essence of disturbing me with red herrings on the thread which is meant to be a criticism on achebe's work.
Politics › Re: Sam Omatseye, Under-Fire For Column On Achebe by Tolexander: 11:16am On Apr 09, 2013
slimghost: I replied you that music is not all about Lyrics but that the particular genre we are discussing is. HIP-HOP is 90 percent all about lyrical content.
show me where you said so.
you and who are discussing that? You were just beating round the bush.
Politics › Re: Sam Omatseye, Under-Fire For Column On Achebe by Tolexander: 11:15am On Apr 09, 2013
slimghost: So project depicts good musical knowledge? DAMN IT! cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy. Mr Ignoramus, Project Fame is a talent reality show which the judges have their own criteria of judging the winner. We are discussing a HIP-HOP artiste winning a GRAMMY. Whats the co-relation? You obviously know nothing about music!
you have problems with basic argument.
Cited project fame, just to let you know you need learning some things about their professional judges invited to make comments on their observations on some talents that are in the competitions.
Politics › Re: Sam Omatseye, Under-Fire For Column On Achebe by Tolexander: 11:10am On Apr 09, 2013
slimghost: WTF is this? I have been into music way back before you listened to your first HIP-HOP song. What exactly are you trying to prove by yanking that ish off Wiki? I have told you to use your own standard of a good music of musician to answer my question, but because you lack the basic knowledge of MUSIC, you ran off to Wiki to yank off some senseless lines. Am done with you sir!
you are too unprofessional for me to handle.
You said better lyricist and i asked you if music is all about lyrics before jumping about.
Politics › Re: Sam Omatseye, Under-Fire For Column On Achebe by Tolexander: 11:07am On Apr 09, 2013
slimghost: Shut it, Mr Ignoramus. Nobody gives you a grammy for your sound system as an artiste (that goes to the producer). What matters is Lyrical content, general performance of a song or an album, e.t.c. Now, Since you guys are trying to opine that since Soyinka won a Nobel prize and Achebe didnt, he is now better than Achebe. Wont it be appropriate to say that since Nelly has won a Grammy and Nas hasn't, that he is better than Nas?
stop exhibiting ignorance! So sound system is not also part of music.
Why are you so unstable.
You said a 'better lyricst' and not musician.
Stand on your ground and stop messing around.
Politics › Re: Sam Omatseye, Under-Fire For Column On Achebe by Tolexander: 10:49am On Apr 09, 2013
slimghost: Sure its not, but i know Nelly is not a "classical" musician. He is a HIP HOP artiste and HIP HOP is all about Lyrics. Stop embarrassing yourself sir!
elements of hip hop from wikipaedia

It is characterized
by four distinct
elements, all of which
represent the different
manifestations of the
culture: rap music
(aural), turntablism or
"DJing" (aural), breaking
(physical) and graffiti
art (visual)
. Despite their
contrasting methods of
execution,
Had you been into music, you would understand what am saying and stopped this argumentun ad ignorantium.
Watch programs like project fame and co to know somethings about music.
It is always stressfull arguing with the laymen cos it only takes the professionals to understand the terms.

slimghost: Please all the Yorubas in the house, Am still waiting for someone to tell me how Nelly is a better Lyricist or Artiste than Nas! DAYOKUNU,EKO ILE and co....am waiting! grin grin grin grin grin
stop demonstrating ignorance. Music is not all about lyrics.

phantom: you obviously have no idea of hiphop so i ll forgive you.@slimghost ...this might pose a problem for you.he doesnt even know hiphop talk more of what your trying to make him see.i suggest you drop your standard a bit.if possible draw pictures for him.
what is this stray goat?

Is only hip pop genre of music?
Politics › Re: Sam Omatseye, Under-Fire For Column On Achebe by Tolexander: 9:56am On Apr 09, 2013
slimghost: Am asking you sir, since winning an award now equates being the best in your field! Do you now see how foolish your people's argument is?
you are just billions of aeronautical miles out of the point.
The argument about winning a nobel prize in ones field such as literature considers your dexterity with all the elements of literature.
While winning a grammy also entails your dexterity with elements of music such as vocal dexterity, lyrics, sound system, bla bla bla . . even ones attitude.
Politics › Re: Sam Omatseye, Under-Fire For Column On Achebe by Tolexander: 9:09am On Apr 09, 2013
slimghost: If you want to. Just answer my question sir!
hello! You said a man couldn't win the grammy despite the fact that he was considered the best lyricist. Just tell me if winning a grammy stands on how lyrical the music is. Basic!
Politics › Re: Sam Omatseye, Under-Fire For Column On Achebe by Tolexander: 9:06am On Apr 09, 2013
@tolexander, whether you want to explode or not, awo is only respected in nigeria and worshipped in yorubaland. He was an ethnic champion. As for your biased take on equiano, it only shows what envy can turn one to- a tribal jingoist. Equiano's abolitionist legacy through his writings stands tall, don't cry okay? He is, like achebe, proudly igbo.
oh boy! You aren't in the league of people i can explode to. Just try to listen and learn.
You brought up the issue of awo not being given any foreign tribute when he died. Just tell me where you were when he died to know this.

Nobody is castingating the abolutionist mind and intention of Gustavus Vassa. He had done his best. Does that mean the truth shouldn't be verified?
Politics › Re: Sam Omatseye, Under-Fire For Column On Achebe by Tolexander: 8:35am On Apr 09, 2013
@tolexander, did you also know it was said that it may have a mistake from the birth registrar, or still, equiano's arrangement. Even if so, his NATIVE ORIGIN should not be disputed. He says he is igbo, why are some bigots in NL sulking at this?
mr man! His date of birth isn't important and relevant to the criticism.
Why the debate was his slavery experience across the atlantic.
@ola johnson, the world pays it's tribute to achebe. Awo never received such because he is an ethnic champion. Omatseye in his lifetime, will never stand shoulder to shoulder with achebe.
When will people stop being stupid. A man is telling you his origin, you say he is not sure. Birthplace is different from origin. Equiano says he is of igbo origin and some people are trying to dispute HIS OWN ACCOUNT. If you heard read works about him, including the wikipedia FULL DISCUSSION about more facts weighing his birthplace account to be true, jealous imbeciles like you will just shut up. @caustical, you are from hutu tribe not yoruba, disprove me since i know you better than yourself...fool.
Vincent Carretta wasn't arguing if Gustavus Vassa had his origin in alaigbo or not.
What he was arguing is that he was probably born in south carolina.
And if he was born in south carolina, can you now imagine what will be the story of how his sister and him were transported across the atlantic to slavery?

I think i can now understand these people and their mentality to an extent now.

Chinua Achebe criticized Joseph Conrad work, the heart of darkness. His people are praising him. Little do they know that whatever you sow, you will reap.

Always giving excuse for every failure. Like genocide, starvation, blockade, they dont like us. Achebe didn't win the nobel prize, they blame it on achebe's criticism of the Joseph Conrad's word.
When will you people learn to acquire wisdom from your downfall and stop blaming the downfall on anybody.
