Christianity EtcRe: I Dare You To Respond! by toneyb: 5:30pm On Mar 26, 2010

Whats your proof of Gods nonexistence?
It's simple ALL Gods are creation of men. When one considers all the fanciful creatures that have been made up by the imagination of human beings one must admit men created all their favorite God or Gods as well. After all, mankind has demonstrably invented thousands of god-myths over the years.

So an easy way to look at this question is to compare it to someone else who we all know was invented by mankind: Santa Claus.

What is the evidence for the non-existence of Santa Claus? What lack of evidence do we have for the existence of Santa Claus? There is not a single argument that has ever been made to support the existence of "God" that cannot be applied in some way to support the existence of Santa Claus.

Can you point to the existence of any God on its own as mazaje loves putting it outside man made stories(about such a God), man made culture, traditions, Man's societal influence and acceptance? We have various stories, myths, cultural, moral and traditional values that men created and attributed to the various concept of Gods they all imagined. No God has ever been shown to exists only man made stories, idea, traditions, cultural values and lifestyles. The existence of so many different religions and God concept like everything else shows that they are ALL man made.

this is CLASSIC DUMB  huh

1. The above scenario talks and make assumptions of a world order like now with civilizations, exposure and laws and order taken for granted. did the children of Israel simply invade neighbouring towns and start murdering their children?
YES. Please read your bible. According to the bible the ancient jews were traveling in the wilderness with no were to go to and their tribalGod told them to attack and invade, It did not even say that they were provoked, they the land's of other people which was supposedly flowing with milk and honey because he had already given it to them as their own. It did not even say that they were provoked at all.

2. it is simply ridiculous how u criticise policies taken to safe guard a nation from external or annihilative attacks. would u not justify counter-reactions from the FG if cameroon were to attack Nigeria?  huh . . .  .of course u will but will be foolishly unable to reconcile such with the plight of the COS under the leadership of moses.
Noetic is all over the place as usual making a mockery of himself grin grin. Where does it say that the people of Israel were under attack? It says that they attacked others because they worshiped other gods,How does worshiping other gods equate to attack? grin. Please stop defending the absurd sIt only makes you look ridiculous. I have had this debate with honest people like Jesoul and her response was that she could not understand why Yahweh commanded all the unnecessary bloodbath. Even daivdylan just says that was how thing were during those days and rounds off with his usual allah did the same in the koran too why arent we criticizing allah mantra. These are honest people who see the actions for what they are and don't even try to justify them because they know that it is a waste of time to do so.

haha. I agree with u guys for the most part. But tbh I think Tpia has a valid point. 5 thousand years ago there was nothing absurd about genocide and all that . . . I think we should acknowledge that much. If u wanted to survive back then, at some point you would most likely have had to massacre somebody else. That doesn't change the fact that God endorsed it tho, but he wasn't endorsing the absurd, IMO. Unless we are judging by 2010 standards. . .
When people choose to live their lives bowing down to or constantly beating and revering 5000 year old mythical stories and presenting them as their source of morals which makes them special, then its very right to point to them that they are not. Tapiah was tacitly trying to say that he wanna be Jewish ancestors did the right thing by killing women and children because they worshiped other gods. There is no need defending 5000 years old myths and stories of men who believed that it was  right for fathers to sell their daughters in to slavery or men who believed that a man that despoils a woman must marry her. No sense defending of Justifying these absurd stories.

When they were in a position of power, genocide was endorsed by God, an eye for an eye, etc. . . . when they were weak and oppressed the message became Love and do unto others as u will want done unto you. . . . . Seems to me that somebody learned a lesson the hard way.
grin grin. When they were completely powerless the message was turn the other cheek and live in peace with all men. Because their God will very soon come and take them out of their miserable living to a better place.

We are a products/victims of our time and space. We react to what is going on around us. . . our  worldview should, IMO, change and evolve as we learn and experience more. Sticking to some 2000 year old worldview that causes one to "believe" ridiculous things is, IMO, unhealthy for us.
That is why I just don't get what noetic is trying to justify the actions of ancient savages, Noetic is trying to justify the actions of ancient men that believed that it was right for parents to stone to death their children for talking back at them, people who believed it was right to stone to death another person just for picking sticks on a day of holiday, people who believed that it was right to kill others because they worship other gods. As people's morality evolves so does that of all their gods whom they all created in their own image and in accordance to their own culture and traditions.

The Mosaic code does not allow for mercy- in those days it was kill or be killed. The bible says that Yahweh the tribal god of the Jews told them to attack others, kill, despoil, rape and destroy them and sacrifice some of them as a burnt offering unto him because they worshiped others gods, it does NOT talk about self defense does it?

Mazaje sees a need for the COS to have a sense of defence and caution . . . ,  .
I like mazaje also believe that every body needs to have a sense of defence and caution, but when you read the bible you will see that the ancient Jews were not defending themselves but simply killing others because they worshiped other gods.. How is that a sense of defense and caution? grin

yet he screams that they kill other people.
Killing other people and pillaging their lands simply because they worship other gods is NOT self defense is it? If these passage were in the koran or some other religious text you will see it for what it is.

perhaps if he can separate his HATE for God. . .he can objectively see through this analogy.
Didn't he tell you that there is no god for him to hate but ancient mythical writings of men?

If you calm down and humble yourself you might learn a thing or two from the Scriptures. Luke 17:34-36 says the Second Coming of Jesus Christ will occur while some are asleep at night and others are working at daytime activities in the field. This is a clear indication of a revolving earth, with day and night at the same time.
You are lying here as usual. The verses say NO such thing. Here is what it says.

Luke 17:34-36
34"I tell you, on that night there will be two in one bed; one will be taken and the other will be left.
35"(A)There will be two women grinding at the same place; one will be taken and the other will be left.
36"Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other will be left."

It specifically says" On that night". It goes on to say that two men will be working on the field. Where did it state that it will occur while some are asleep at night and others are working at daytime activities in the field? Where was day time mentioned in the passage? Do people not work at night? Why must you lie to yourself and state things that the bible it self never states? grin grin. Keep on lying for Jesus.

OLAADEGBU:
Even the secular dictionaries such as the Chambers Dictionary define sun'rise or sun'rising as the rising or first appearance of the sun above the horizon; the time or colour-effects of this rising; the east; It also defines sun'set or sun'setting as the setting or going down of the sun; the time or phenomenon of this; west; Being an atheist or is it agnostic doesn't mean that you cannot understand these use of language no matter your hatred for God.
How does the sun hurry back to where it rises? Is it also some of the mysteries of the bible?

For ages, scientists believed in a geocentric view of the universe.  The difference between night and day were believed to be caused by the sun revolving around the earth.  Today, we know that the earth's rotation on its axis is responsible for the sun's "rising and setting."  But 4,000 or more years ago, it was written, "Have you commanded the morning since your days; and caused the day spring [dawn] to know his place? . . . It [the earth] is turned as clay to the seal" (Job 38:12,14).  The picture here is of a clay vessel being turned or rotated upon the potter's wheel.  This is an accurate analogy of the earth's rotation. -- The Evidence Bible
Its very clear from you devious methods here that you will always lie through your teeth to rationalize ancient myths. Any body can make the bible say anything he wants if they uses you devious methods here. Where does the bible say that the earth is turned as clay upon a potters wheel in the book of Job? grin grin. Keep on lying for Jesus at least it gives you some sense of happiness I guess.

@toneyb:This is a waste of time, bro. I can as well say that the philosopher here was speaking the same kind of language that the weatherman speaks when he tells you that "At sunrise there will be a temperature of 15oCelsius over the London Metropolis". Does the sun really rise? Does it set? Why do you guys find fault with the words in the Bible, and you use the same words yourself in everyday language?  huh
Hurrying back to where it rises indicates the sun moving round the earth no? There are other places like in the book of Joshua. We read how Yahweh made the sun stop in one direction to prevent darkness covering the face of the earth so that Joshua and his army had enough time to slaughter all the amekelite people. Joshua 10:13 says that the sun stood still, and the moon stopped for 24 hours. How does the sun stand still? Which scientific observation supports this tale? If you read the bible as the inspired word of a omnipotent and omniscient deity it seems rightly appears like a very odd tale. Like so many of the Bible stories. But if you read it as the mythology of a people and their primitive ideas about the universe and their place in it, it works.

If anyone accepts Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord of their life they are Christians but when anyone considers the possibility that God used evolutionary processes to create over millions or billion of years such folks are faced with serious consequences, in other words they are saying that the word of God is not authoritative and the character of God is being questioned.  But there is hope as you will see in the case of Dr. Parker in the link below;
What you are saying here is that those Christians that do not believe the earth and the universe were created in 6 literal days about 6000 years ago are questioning the character of the biblical God? How then are they Christians since you believe that disbelief in your young earth hypothesis is tantamount to questioning the character of the biblical God?

This is an interview of the journey of a former evolutionist to being a scientific biblical creationist.

Here is just one for you.

"Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods. In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully. If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock. Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it. Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the LORD your God. That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt. Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction. Then the LORD will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you. He will have compassion on you and make you a great nation, just as he solemnly promised your ancestors. "The LORD your God will be merciful only if you obey him and keep all the commands I am giving you today, doing what is pleasing to him." (Deuteronomy 13:13-19)

The Inerrant and Infallible Word of God starts from the opening verses of Genesis to the closing verses of Revelation, and this shows the evidence of heavenly authenticity.  Every page is both historically and scientifically accurate.
We have heard that already, Which science is it that supports the accuracy of the sun revolving around the earth as the bible says? Which science is it that supports the accuracy of birds springing into life fully formed because Yahweh uttered magic words? Which science is it that supports stars fighting along side humans? Noah's flood and Jacob's genetic engineering model which science supports these mythical stories? Which outside the bible history supports that accuracy of the exodus for example?

While, however, the Bible has the evidence of all this, it is not primarily a book of history, nor is it primarily a book of scientific record.  Basically, it is a book of Divine revelation.  The whole book is a complete revelation of God’s plan of redemption for mankind.  He places it in our hands as the key which unlocks the mystery of His love, of our sin, of His justice and mercy, and of His programme of salvation for mankind.
When you tell lies to people and are afraid to being cut pants down is necessary to make your arguments nebulous and hide your lies with words such as divine mysteries that can never be known by humans etc.

Once we regard the Bible holistically it begins to take on a new meaning.  The Old Testament (OT) is preparatory to the New Testament (NT).  The NT cannot be understood apart from the OT, neither can the OT be appreciated apart from the NT.  As we read, study and prayerfully meditate on the Bible, we begin to discover that God’s way of dealing with man in the OT is but a shadow of His dealing with man in the NT.  Salvation for a fallen race was to be through the Man Christ Jesus from the very beginning; but before His coming, His death and resurrection, God dealt with the nation into whom Christ was to be born in the same way as He would thereafter deal with men individually through the Lord Jesus Christ.  In other words, God’s dealing with Israel was a type or shadow of His dealings with you and me.  As soon as we grasp this truth, the OT becomes transformed from a book of dry history and unintelligible sacrifices to a book of Divine revelation.
Telling his chosen men to go about killing others and pillaging their lands for worshiping their own gods is how your god deals with people right? grin

@toneyb: How do you measure pre-instantiated time?

I believe that the same way God created Adam as an adult, he could have made the earth come to being as a fully mature planet, "already billions of years old and able to sustain itself". So, your scientific methods will detect it as billions or years old, and the historical timeline will still show it as 6000 years since the instantiation.
NO Objective historical time line shows that the earth is 6000 years since the so called instantiation.

I personally don't see any problems here because both the YEC and the Old-Earth theory adherents are correct.
How are the adherents of YEC and OEC correct?YEC believe that the universe and everything else is just 6000 years old, while OEC disbelieve in that assumption completely so how are they both correct when they do not even share the same belief?

OP,

My position about the inerrancy of the Bible is plain for everyone to see and I also thank noetic for correcting some misconceptions about my arguments.

It is my believe that the Bible is the History Book of the Universe and that it tells us the future destiny of this cosmos.  The Bible gives us an account of when time began, the main events of history, such as the entrance of sin and death into the world, the time when the whole surface of this earth was destroyed by water, the reason of different languages at the Tower of Babel, the account of the Son of God coming as a man, His death and Resurrection, the rapture and the new heavens and earth to come.
Do you accept that old earth creationist (who believe that the earth is billions of years old) are also Christians?

If there are any prophecies, visions, dreams, doctrines or scientific discoveries these should be in line or cofirmed with the scriptures otherwise they are discarded as futile exercises.
What then should people do with the scientific discovery that shows that the sun does not revolves round the earth, when the bible clearly says that it does? huh huh.
Christianity EtcWhy People Believe Or Hold Unto Religious Beliefs. by toneyb(op): 3:03pm On Mar 22, 2010
OK, so here's my Top 18 reasons why people turn to, or hold religious beliefs:

-  Promise of personal comfort or some promise of being special and different from others.

-  The promise of eternal life and eternal happiness.

-  Fear of death.

-  Desire for fellowship with others (a social outlet).

-  A sense of belonging.

-  A sense of community.

-  Emotional dissatisfaction.

-  Personal injustice or victim-hood.

-  Personal misfortune such as disability, injury, illness, or the misfortune of a loved one. (crutch syndrome).
(I know a guy who became a christian right after having a heart attack). The longing for being helped by some one or something when facing difficulty.

-  Personal failure or crisis related to substance abuse, gambling, guilty conscience, imprisonment, etc.

-  Personal dissatisfaction with one’s social, romantic, or vocational circumstances.

-  Desire to reform one's morality or behavior.

-  Desire for hope in divine reward.

-  Feelings of guilt or shame (the slick time-worn tools of Christianity and Islam).

-  Non thinking, or a laziness in thinking, including a love for pat-answers.

-  The complexity of the Universe.

-  A desire (and need) for a certain "governance" in their lives.

-  A certain child-like emotional trigger activated in the brain by a story in which they are loved by an authority figure or imaginary being.

-  And NUMBER ONE: It just happens to be the religion that you were raised, indoctrinated, conditioned and brainwashed with to accept and follow right from childhood.

1. your deductions CANNOT be taken as fact. how do u rationally explain the extra-terrestrial outer body experience of millions of believers.
You are not well informed my brother. One in ten people has an out-of-body experience at some time in their lives respective of their religious beliefs and all their experiences are the same. It is NOT only "believers" that have out of body experiences, 1 out of every 10 people has that experience in their life time. Its a VERY normal phenomena. A neuroscientist working at UCL (University College London) has devised the first experimental method to induce an out-of-body experience in healthy participants. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/08/070823141057.htm.

According to the article "OBEs have been reported in clinical conditions where brain function is compromised, such as stroke, epilepsy and drug abuse". Nothing there that points to the mythical heaven or hell.

how do u explain the fact that some have seen heaven and hell? . . . , of course your explanation remains. . u dont believe.
grin grin. What am I supposed to do with this drivel? Its simply a lie, a simple reading of their various accounts says that they are lying. I have read their different accounts and the contradictions alone says that they are lying and only imagining stuffs. http://www.divinerevelations.info/. There are different accounts of those that claim to have visited heaven and hell on that website. Read their very different and conflicting accounts. grin grin. Its all a fantasy and make belief. Religion and all the supposed fruits of religion were all created by men end of story.

2. on the contrary . . . .for as many as reject JC will miss heaven.
It is not about rejecting Jesus. Its about you wanting others to share your beliefs, since you have been conditioned and indoctrinated to believe that having or maintaining such beliefs is the only thing that gives your life meaning. Heaven is what the founders of your religion use as a selling or marketing strategy so that they can keep people in line, How do you expect people to believe in their stories, fantasies and concepts if there is no heaven for those that believe to go to and hell for unbelievers to rot in? grin. The very first recorded Chinese Dynasty is the Xia Dynasty and just before that was the era known as the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors circa 2852 BC to 2205 BC. When I referred to the Chinese origin as circa 2500 B.C., it is midway within the pre-Xia dynasty era.
You are the one that is presenting vacuous arguments and trying to present them as if they are profound. Chinese dynasty does not equal the approximate origin of China. Here is what you wrote in case you forgot.

InesQor:
The approximate date of the Chinese origin, roughly 2500 B.C., is surprisingly close to the strict chronological dating of the great dispersion event at the tower of Babel.
Sorry this statement is completely false. The Jewish origins and history does NOT predates that of the Chinese if you have any scientific evidence that says it does please bring it on.

Here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_Chinese_history), wikipedia says anything predating the Xia dynasty is only a part of Chinese mythology.
Just as the tower of babel is also said to be Jewish mythology according to wikipedia.

You have been known to attack irrelevant aspects of a discussion, so I will just let you be.  undecided
As you please. The bottom line is that Chinese mythology has nothing to do with Jewish mythology. They don't even have the same concept of god at all. Who among all these [God's creatures] does not know That the HAND OF THE LORD has done this, In whose HAND is the life of every living thing, And the breath of all mankind? Job 12:9,10, NKJV

Few realize that the early Chinese (c. 2200 B.C.) worshiped a Creator-God, the Heavenly Ruler. Fewer still have appreciated the "second Genesis" which their ingenious ancient character writing contains. 1 The 4,000-year-old Imperial Sacrifice ceremony observed annually by China's reigning emperors attests to their original post-deluge patriarchal connections. 2 A word-of-mouth knowledge of God (even the Trinity), the Creation, Garden of Eden, and Fall of man, could have come to them from Adam via Lamech, Noah's father; and Noah's son, Shem, the probable Chinese progenitor.

A study of the oldest known Chinese scripts, the bronzeware and oracle bone writing, supports the concept of their detailed knowledge of the antediluvian world. These early written forms are more pictographic (picture writing) than today's surviving "shorthand" transcriptions. The most primitive and basic characters, called "radicals," serve as the "ABC's" of the writing. When radicals are combined, they form one type of a more complex character, called the "ideograph," which relates a story or concept.
Olaadegbu is at it again  grin. Where did you get all these nonsense drivel from? Next time try reliable sources of information, Stop relying on the fraudulent website of Kent Hovind who is a convicted fraud and a well know conspiracy theorist who is presently in jail serving a 10 years sentence for fraud. Institute of creation science eh? I call it the institute of fraudulent science.

Ancestor worship is the original basic Chinese religion. It has nothing to do with ancient Jewish mythology.

The entire OP is baseless and a complete LIE. Chinese mythology has NOTHING to do with Jewish mythology.

The approximate date of the Chinese origin, roughly 2500 B.C., is surprisingly close to the strict chronological dating of the great dispersion event at the tower of Babel.
The above statement is completely FALSE.

From wikipedia.

China is one of the world's oldest continuous civilizations[1] and for most of the last two millennia was one of the largest and most advanced civilizations in the world, until the 1850s when it missed the industrial revolution.
The first evidence of human presence in the region was found at the Zhoukoudian cave. It is one of the first known specimens of Homo erectus, now commonly known as the Peking Man, estimated to have lived from 300,000 to 780,000 years ago.

@ OP

how can 14 million nigerians be atheists? . . . , .nigerians aint that dumb?
grin grin. OK you think that the over 90 percent of Nigerians that are either Christians or Muslims have any sense? Does believing in foreign and imported man made mythologies of ancient Jews, Arabs and Romans make a person sensible?
