I think Tbill bought in secondary market could mature any day of the week ,
If so, can you please explain to me how it is possible since Primary market sales are done on Wednesdays and Secondary market sales are the reselling of TBs purchased at the Primary market auctions before the expiration of its tenure.

Hmmmmmm.
Are you sure the maturity day is today and not next Thursday?.

I am asking cause I have never heard of Treasury Bills maturing on a Friday before. They usually mature on Thursdays.

Please do banks collect withholding tax from the interest. If yes how many percent?
There's no tax at all on Treasury Bills investments o. But there are charges that the banks charge like custodian fees, transaction fees.

Also you may be charged stamp duties & VAT on the transfers from your account as approved by the CBN

You are a young lady who I guess is not lazy. Since you have surfaced on this thread, I implore you to pls start reading this thread from page 0 which will take you less than one month to digest. I know that many people finish novels in one week or even less especially if it's an interesting one like this thread

I am very sure that by the time you finish, you will not need to ask questions again except maybe few ones to clarify cretain things-I started that way and i have every reason to be very very grateful to God. You will be so informed that you would not need anyone to advice you on where to invest your money with almost zero % risk if you are not greedy.

Pls what did he mean by the rate it was purchased/sold. Is he talking abt the actual interest rate?

Does it mean if i purchase t bills with a discount rate of say 10%, i can sell this same t bills to the bank at a different rate of say 12% if that is the prevailing rate.

Also does the T bills rate actually change everyday?

Thanks
Yes.
The TB rates changes daily at the secondary market depending on the prevailing primary rate, demand and availability. But mind you, you can only make profit if you sell at lower rate to the rate you bought. If you sell at higher rate, you get less.

Before you start asking me how, go to page 436 and few pages before that page for better understanding on how and why it's so

I went to my bank FIDELITY place TB last week but they told me 1m is d minimum.
which bank takes less as I don't have up to that for now
Why bothering yourself with Fidelity?
Better banks in terms of performance at Treasury Bills auctions like Stanbic & First accept N100,000 and ironically, these are the banks that should have been bragging, not FIDELITY.

Abeg move to better bank

Happy New Year Everyone!

I am the guy who wanted to terminate his Union Bank Treasury Bill Investment late last year. This is to inform everyone that I didn't later terminate the TB as I decided to source for funds else where.
However, I approached the bank for a loan during that time using one of my TB as collateral but the interest % with term and condition made me run for my dear sweet life. I was offered 26% interest on the loan which I will be servicing every month and if I failed to fund my account for them for the deduction every month, they will deep there hands into my TB and converted it into FD so they can service the loan. They are seriously mad ooo. Can you all imagine that cruelty. Well I ran for my dear life and decided not to proceed with the loan and the TB termination. I later persuaded a friend who owe me to help by paying his loan which he did and my money problems was taken care of though not all but it helps and my investment is also safe. In few months one of my TB will mature and I can smile and thank God.

I really appreciate you all contributions. I have learnt a whole lot more with this and I'm taking my TB game higher this year. I have opened Stanbic and FBN and getting ready for a fruitful year ahead. I have learnt my lesson and gained more knowledge about TB. My TB Game started from here, and you all who has been contributing to this super investment thread. That is my experience during the whole termination brouhaha o.

I wish everyone of us the best of 2018 in good health and wealth. More Life, More Money, More Gains, More Investment Opportunities and Good Health to each and everyone of us. Amen!

Note: if you are using your TB as a collateral for a loan please think twice, because the bank may not tell you what they will do to your TB if you failed to fund your account for one month sef.

Thank you!
Very beautiful!!!
I also rejoice with you and wish you well this year.

There's one thing that you may also not realise that you did to a lot of people on this thread-
You were the person who made many to know that Union Bank Charges 25% of the upfront interest for termination of TBs.
You equally made some of us on this thread to be able to prove to doubting Thomases that it's actually possible to gain by terminating TB depending on the rate it was purchased vis-a-vis the rate it's sold.

Happy new year!
InvestmentRe: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by TONY56: 6:21pm On Jan 05, 2018
Just received a mail from Stanbic now that the successful bid rate for my 182-day tenor for last Wednesday auction is 13.9250% and not 13 88% rough estimate that I posted earlier which was probably because of other deductions.

It means Stanbic got the highest rate for last auction of 182days the stop rate of which was also 13.9250%.

I am happy and not complaining at all.

I understand your choice of balling in a low risk yielding asset, however there are other platforms that will offer 95% risk free investment.

Take FBN mutualfund for example.
although I don't know what their current rate is like, but I do know it would be way better than a miserly 13% offered now in T.bills judging by their December fact sheet, and FBN Mutual fund is relatively very safe! (95%)

so weigh your options nevertheless.
Thanks for your advice but note that ALL mutual funds takes after Treasury Bill rates if you don't know.
If you factor in the upfront interest we receive in NTB, and the true yields when you opt not to collect your upfront interest but re-invest it, it's usually higher than mutual funds because most of the funds invested by mutual fund operators are in Treasury bills. So whatever returns you get from investment in mutual fund is a function of treasury bill rates.

The December fact sheets you talked about is a cumulative of both the high Treasury Bill rates from the beginning of 2017 up to last quarter when it fell and no mutual fund can promise you that type of "facts sheet" this year except Treasury Bills rate also improve.

Moreover, you have said it all-mutual funds is about 95% risk free but Treasury Bills are 99.99% risk free and mutual funds is subjected to Tax while Treasury Bills are Tax free. Also, if treasury bills rates continue to fall the one I have already keyed in will never change whereas returns on mutual funds will also go southwards-pls go and find out from the experts and it will be confirmed to you.

As long as Treasury Bills rates are higher than Savings and Fixed Deposit rates, I will continue to go for it and sleep with my two eyes closed.

I am completely satisfied with it and for your information, the 13.88% I got from last auction was not for 364days but for 182days while stop rate for 364days was 14.9%.

Finally, we all have different abilities to take risks and the higher the risks, the higher the gains or losses and vice versa.

I don't follow the herd but my ability and belief. Satisfaction is also the keyword.

jeez is this how bad Tbills have fallen?

from as high as 17-18% to a miserly 13% in 182days. There is nothing to be happy about o.

its very poor. last I checked inflation is within 15%. Choii very poor rates
Hmmmmmm.
Yet those of us who are still happy at 13.9% for 182-day tenor know why we are happy and the TB is still massively over subscribed.

At least we have 99.9% assurance of getting our investments back at maturity and we are better with it than with Savings or Fixed Deposits

Equity market. I got some got stocks last week, and just less than 2 weeks i have made 16% net income. Better than having to lock my funds for a 364-day tenor for a paltry 14%. NSE right now is a better investment haven!

InvestmentRe: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by TONY56: 6:21pm On Jan 04, 2018
Just got debited by Stanbic.
Got about 13.88% for 182-day tenor which I think is superb given the situation of things and it's very close to the stop rate of 13.925%

Stanbic is superb!!!
I guess my risk of partaking in this first auction paid off.
InvestmentRe: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by TONY56: 3:34pm On Jan 04, 2018
I predict that many banks will also fail in their bids during the next auction expecially for the 364-day tenor because some banks will bid very low and more people will also want to participate thereby making it even more oversubscribed than yesterday's.
Just my personal thinking o.

Think now we know the direction of where t-bills are going ..the second and 3rd bidding will show more clarity ..will be going for the second forthe year

I think some of bidding failed cos its just the Ist t bills for 2018, with results yester can guide banks as per the rates
I don't agree with you sir.
Bidding failed because too many people were chasing the amount earmarked for the auction.
If you look at the results very well, you will see that ALL the tenors were seriously oversubscribed and that's a pointer to what will happen in subsequent auctions. They will equally be oversubscribed and the rates will fall seriously because those banks whose bids failed yesterday will bring down their bids in other to be successful.

I predicted last week that the rate we would get at the first auction yesterday is likely to be the highest this quarter and the very high amount of money bided yesterday is pointing in that direction and as the banks try to outwit each other; the stop rates will continue to fall.

Considering the situation of things in the country now, me think it's not really bad and subsequent ones may be lower this quartet because this was really over subscribed.

Believe it or not, i am a Mechanical Engineer and ALL I have contributed on this thread were acquired from here and very few other sources BUT majorly by reading from page 0 till when I joined the thread less than a year ago in 2017 and I have cause to be grateful to God for what I have gained in less than one year.

What it really need is courage and determination. Nothing more. When I joined this thread, nobody knew that I was a newbie and people would not even believe if i told them because I had digested the earlier pages and joined by contributing without asking questions and I am still learning too.

Many thanks to those who started this very beautiful thread and the many gurus herein who I have great respect for

Can you please describe how to place bids and what rate do you think would be favorable this period?
Hmmmmmm.
If you don't know how to place bids, I guess you don't know much about Treasury Bills yet. So my advice is that you go to the beginning of this thread and start reading so as to acquire knowledge about it.
If I answer your question now, you will definitely continue to ask more.
This year, I want people who want to know about TB to sacrifice time to read the thread from the beginning to about the middle or more for better understanding because there's no question you want to ask that has not been answered very well by many gurus on this beautiful thread. There are some questions people ask on this thread that shows that they have not been following the thread or that they know little or nothing about TB. And such people should just do the needful by going to the beginning of the thread instead of waiting to be spoon fed and they often get their fingers burnt. I did just that too and funny enough some people now wrongly think that i am a guru grin grin grin-it doesn't really take too much time if you are really determined to learn.

I am really sorry if I sound harsh but that's my decision this 2018 and those who are ready to keep answering repeated questions can continue to do so for I have decided to "teach people how to fish" rather than giving them fish.
Anyone who takes to my advice will thank me later cause with time, they will be well equipped and informed so much that instead of asking questions on this thread, they will be sharing and discussing Treasury Bills like a guru.

Happy new year to you all.Glad to be a part of these forum as it has helped me a lot..Please will like to know if it is advisable to go for primary market this week or wait to see how the rate turns out...

Thanks will appreciate any contribution..

@TONY56
Hmmmm.
In my opinion, one should take some risks and in this light, I think it's better to take the risk in partaking in this first auction of the year because the auction has been on suspension for weeks, the CBN has also recently mopped up liquidity in the system and this is a period when money is generally scarce due to payments of school fees and Christmas spendings etc.

My guess is that rush for TB tomorrow is going to be low whereas the offer is not low>>N11.76b; N33.9b &N115.84b for 91; 182 &364 days tenors respectively out of total of N1.3Trillion earmarked for this first quarter by CBN.

I won't be suprised if the stop rate tomorrow will be one of the highest in this first quarter since a lot of people want to "wait and see" and rush afterwards may bring subsequent ones down if demand outweighs supply from CBN.

That's my personal opinion and I have already submitted my completed form for tomorrow's auction.

Bro what you see people using as ceiling and roofing is not abestos but N.T. It because people are so used to the name abestos that's why it still being called abestos.

In nigerite where i work and at our sister company also is enugu and sapele, we don't use abestos in any of our product and it is a fact we advertise on the sheet both ceiling and roofing that it " free of abestos "

So to those living in house with the so called abestos roofing product, you have nothing to fear as long as it made by nigerite, eminite in enugu and eternite in sapele and giwarite in kano.

@mod please don't see this as an advert. Is just that one can not help seeing and reading all what people are saying without commenting the way i did.
I just stumbled on your post which appears to be over 1yr ago.
I am happy that you are confirming that the roofing sheets produced by Nigerite is Asbestos free.

However, can you confirm that Nigerite no longer produce the 4ft x 8ft Asbestos-free roofing sheets? I am asking because it's not available in all the retail outlets I visited. I only saw the one they call "Solo".

I seriously doubt that they are still using true "asbestos" to produce this.

Asbestos was made illegal in Nigeria years past. This is just a remainder of a coloqual use of the word asbestos.

See this post
Thank you very much.
I am aware that the roofing sheets produced by Nigeria is Asbestos free but I had to use the word Asbestos because that is what the average retailer call it.

I was not ready to go into any dialogue with the guy who instead of telling me the current price was telling me that i want to use it because of costs and advising me against it simply because he doesn't sell it cause I know what I want and I know why I want it of which cost is not a factor at all.
