OneNaira6: Did you even research as you claim. Being chairman of a foreign branch company does not mean You OWE the company. You are a worker of that company. infact, out of all companies posted up by you, only two are Yoruba CEO/owned and the remaining are either whites, SS and SE.
Dangote Cement---CEO: Aliko Dangote [Fulani] • Zenith Bank PLC---CEO/founder: Jim ovia [ delta igbo] • Ecobank Transnational Incorporated---CEO: Albert Essien [ibibio] • Nigerian Breweries Plc...Non Nigerian owned company..a branch of heinkein. CEO: Nicholas Vervelde [white] • First Bank Plc...CBN sponsored bank. Not a nigerian founded bank despite a yoruba [onasanya] is the chairman. Founder: Alfred Jones [ white] • Guaranty Trust Bank Plc: CEO/founder Fola Adeola [yoruba] • United Bank for Africa--- CEO: Phillip Oduoza [ Delta Igbo] • Guinness Nigeria:non nigerian owned company: Founder: Arthur Guinness [white] • Nestlé Nigeria: non nigerian owned company: CEO: Paul bulcke [white] • Access Bank---CEO: Paul Wigwe [igbo] • Flour Mills Nigeria---Paul Gbededo [tribe: unsure, possibly middlebelt] • Union Bank of Nigeria---CEO: unknown. It Is a UK owned company despite the chairman is igbo [Udo udoma] • Stanbic IBTC---CEO: Atedo Peterside [ijaw] • First City Monument Bank--- CEO: Ladi Balogun [yoruba] • Lafarge Cement WAPCO-- non nigerian owned company. You do realize you ended up just proving what all have been saying accurate. Without whites, SS and SE Nigeria is nothing. You actually just proved majority of the top 20 companies in Nigeria is a non nigerian company but rather a branch of a foreign company. You did a good number on him. Yoruba just talk anyhow and think they are smart A bottle of star for you on me |

musing2: @bigfrancis21, and tonychristopher it seems you guys are not interested in the idea since there is already an Igbo forum, but don't you find an Igbo forum limiting in the amount of content that can be shared, and the discussions that can take place?
If your answers are no, are either of you interested in submitting a short write up on why an Igbo forum is okay, and removes the need for an Igbo language section?
Asadike welcome , I completely agree with you. Are you interested in submitting a write up in favour of having an Igbo language section..such as one on the advantages of an Igbo language section? I concur it will be nice if we have igbo section and all be written in igbo but won't pundits and critcs accuse us of isolation and tribalism |

Ok but we hav igbo thread bigfrancis21: I understand your plight and inability to communicate in Igbo fluently but practice is the key. I use myself as an example. I was not raised speaking Igbo. My parents raised us speaking English and once we gained mastery of English, my mom switched to speaking Igbo with us. However, I did not begin speaking Igbo until my final year in the university when I willingly decided to start speaking. You see, understanding and speaking a language are two different things. I could understand, read and write Igbo fluently in secondary school, except speaking. Initially I wouldn't converse beyond a minute or two without switching to English but today I am just like any native speaker. Like they say, practise makes perfect, and it took me only 2 years to be fluent.
The problem with non-speaking Igbo youths today is that they are not willing to even try speaking the language. Many acknowledge their inability to speak and wish that they knew how to speak, but yet don't make voluntary efforts to speak.
As for an Igbo language section on Nairaland, there are many Igbo language threads on nairaland you can learn words and sentences from. However, it is not the best way of learning to speak a language due to lack of actual word pronunciation. The best way to learn is by surrounding yourself with Igbo-speaking people, listening to them as they speak and repeating in Igbo! I can't overemphasize the importance of actual speaking. One wouldn't wish to learn to speak a language but yet does not attempt to speak. Just as you would want to learn spanish and start with pronunciation of words, so would you start by speaking Igbo if you want to learn it.
One way that helped me when I began speaking was by watching Igbo language movies. We have many of them on Youtube and believe you me, the movies only are enough if you want to start speaking Igbo.
Goodluck and hopefully in a few months time, you would have been better than you are today. |

Sometimes I don't understand why guys should be discussing businesses with yolobas.
A yoloba business outlook goes thus.
1. Yoloba shops that sell kuli kuli have uniform securities opening doors to customers that come once in 5hrs.
2. A yolobawoman pays her shop rentage from the pocket of her hubby who prolly works in a bank or govt staff.
3. A yolobawoman will sell plastic on monday, biscuit on tuesday, agbo on wednesday, phone accessories on Thursday, okrika on friday while on saturday morning she will sell everything on her shop auction to go and bail her clothes in tailor which she will use to party on sunday.
4. Yolobamen will sell all the wares in their shop to host naming ceremony, two weeks later the church will announce that a brother have accommodation problem and need donation.
5. There can never be two yolobawomen selling similar items on the same street.
6. There can never be two yolobawomen selling similar things opposite each other in the same expressway.
7. Yoloba person can never give you change even if you bought N900 goods and gave her N1k, they will devote more energy and strength abusing and insulting you instead of looking for change.
8. That your a customer to a yolobawoman does not mean you can buy from others when she didn't have the item, your finished the day you patronized Iya Dotun across mainroad when Iya Sikiru don't have the item.
9. A yoloba will spend 9000hp of energy abusing and insulting you instead of .1hp to price a goods with you, to them you don't need to price the goods.
10. A yolobaman will start selling tiles the day he heard that that Emeka selling tiles bought a car.
11. A yolobaman will likely quit his job and borrow from bank to start importing electrical appliances the day he heard that Okoro the electronic dealer in the shop down the street bought a land at Ogun state.
12. A small shop selling cheap imported clothes , jewellries or wines own by a yolobawoman will likely have a secretary, a cleaner, two uniform security men on one door, an air conditioner, industrial generator powering the shop from sun up to sun down......but an average of four customers per week on peak period which two came to make inquiries.
Yolobass need business tutorials, businesses are not done without networking and internship but they will tell you igbos are doing bloodmoney, arm robberies and selling drugs. |

cemeteray and parts have nothing in common, the undertakers should guard the dead and monitor them and stay away from ladipo or they will join the dead lousy lazy so called host and ghost bring it on # SleekyP: There was a bloody clash between Igbo traders and cemetery workers on Thursday and early today at Ladipo Market in Mushin, Lagos, western Nigeria, after the cemetery attendants formed a parallel executive and took over the leadership of the market.
P.M.NEWS gathered that many traders were wounded following the clash during which guns, machetes and axes were freely used before the police later brought the situation under control.
When our correspondent visited the market on Friday morning, the whole area was rowdy and some traders shut their shops and left the market.
Some police officers were deployed at strategic locations in the market to prevent further fracas.
It was not the first time the groups were fighting at the market. Last month, there was fighting and eight workers were arrested and charged before Ebutt Metta Magistrates’ court for causing mayhem in the market dominated by Igbo auto spare parts traders.
On Tuesday this week another fight broke out which left some traders injured before Thursday’s fighting which spilled over to today.
The fighting which paralysed commercial activities in the market was between the leadership of the market’s central body called Ladipo Auto Central Executive, LACEC and cemetery attendants led by Monday Lawrence.
Monday Lawrence, LACEC leader
Trouble started when some cemetery workers stormed the market with the aid of some military officers.
The workers started moving round the market and ringing bell to announce that the executive of the market has been dissolved and they were now in charge of the market.
When LACEC task force members attempted to stop them, fighting broke out.
Last month, they printed receipts and started collecting tolls from the traders which also resulted in fracas.
Eight members of the group were arrested by the police and charged before Ebutte Metta Magistrate’s court for the offence.
They were granted bail and are still facing trial for assaulting one of the task force members, Ndubusi Eme during the fracas.
Confirming the development, the president of LACEC, Comrade Kinsley Ogunor said the cemetery workers have been terrorising the traders, insisting that they must control the affairs of the market.
•A policeman on guard at Ladipo market, Lagos this morning
He said the market leadership had made several reports to the security agents including the Mushin Local Government Council which contracted the cemetery workers to call Monday and his group to order to no avail.
Ogunor explained that Lawrence came to the market to manage Mushin LGA cemetery located at Ladipo Street close to the market and was not a trader there.
He said Monday seized the opportunity to cause trouble and it appeared that some unseen hands were supporting him and his group.
He said “from the cemetery he started encroaching and now says he wants to take over the management of the market against the wish of the traders.”
Some of the traders who spoke to our reporter expressed fear that the crises might degenerate to serious crises that will affect the state. Effort to speak to Lawrence failed because his phones were switched off.

THAT IS WHY I CALLED ONE IDIOT THAT SAID HE CANT AFFORD TO LOSE WATCHING PREMIERSHIP. A LOT OF STU[PIDITY ABOUND IN AFRICA...I AM OFF TO HAITI SailorXY: this is exactly why the majority of citizens in Nigeria will keep feeding off scraps like lapdogs. if the Chinese or UAEs or even Singaporeans had this kind of 'logic', they will still be a third world country & their citizens resented like millions of Africans today.
why is it so difficult for us to understand "no pain no gain"? suffer it now & become the boss tomorrow. the lazy attitude of our leaders the beginning of the world stems from this kind of thinking.
imagine someone even saying we can't do without DSTv cuz he will miss Champions League! like seriously wtf is that about?? why should our leaders encourage monopoly in many sectors if we are to move forward? like giving a single man license for importation of certain commodities as a political favor when will invariably pass useless laws that kill local production of same commodities.
Nigeria has a million miles to go before we start truely developing according to our natural abilities & resources, & this will only begin when we as a people are ready to stomach inconveniences for the greater good. |
