As part of its social responsibility to help reduce the unemployment rate in Nigeria, GMYT Fashion Academy has inducted 40 students into its school.

Speaking during the induction, the Chief Executive Officer of the academy, Princess Oghen said that the academy was created to tackle the high unemployment rate in the country, to empower people’s desire in understanding the basic concept of fashion designing.

She said that the students will be challenged with practical work as well as latest skills that will equip them for a lifetime.

“The academy is committed to excellence, innovation, student satisfaction and development through shared efforts. “While the second arm of the beauty institute, the GMYT Foundation is an empowerment platform for women to learn various aspects of fashion illustration, design and manufacture via scholarship provision by the GMYT fashion academy,” she said.

The fashion boss also said that her foundation not only desires to train and equip women, youths with skills in fashion design but also seeks to provide business knowledge for its beneficiaries.

“Once we have 50 students and above we induct. So maybe in another two or three months we shall be inducting another set like this.”

“In just a few years, the GMYT Foundation has raised over N200 million mentoring and coaching over 200 unemployed women and youths in fashion designs and how to run their businesses. This year, the goal has been raised to training 500 unemployed women and youths.

“The call to diversify our oil-driven economy is becoming louder, and our plan is to minimize unemployment with fashion entrepreneurship. We as a people must measure progress by the impacts made on society because it is absolutely unfair to judge a man by what he lacks. Our people need jobs.

Nairaland / General / Princess Oghene: Why I Give students Scholarship To Study Fashion by Tonydivinep: 12:17am On Jul 19, 2021
In a bid to reduce unemployment in the country, GMYT Fashion Academy through its foundation initiative, GMYT Foundation has offered N10 million worth of scholarships to ten prospective students in fashion.

The Foundation said its goal is to train over 5,000 youths before 2030.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Academy, Princess Oghene made this known at the event marking her birthday in Lagos.

She said: "We gave over 20 scholarships worth N20million, this is just our own little way of reducing unemployment through fashion so that our community would be a better and safer place for us all to leave in and we are not stopping anytime soon."

Oghene while expressing joy over her life and the journey so far within one year said; "It is another amazing year of my life and I am so glad for what I have been able to achieve thus far. Though I must say it hasn’t been an easy journey but through God, hard work, determination and the drive to succeed has taken us to where we are today."

"In the spirit of my birthday celebration on July 19, GMYT Fashion Academy is giving out free scholarships to 10 prospective students worth over N10 million through our foundation initiative (GMYT Foundation).

According to her, "Excellence they say is the gradual result of always striving to do better. We have indeed worked really hard and It’s obviously paying off."

Reflecting on the journey so far, Oghene said, "The value we have brought into our community is indeed amazing. Just a snippet on what we have been able to achieve in the last one year, we acquired a state of art Fashion Academy with over 10 en-suite well air-conditioned executive classrooms, free wifi for the students, security e.t.c

"I am excited to say we just reached another milestone by launching our own Penthouse (The GMYT Apartments).

"As a way of giving back to the society, we specifically provided this free accommodation for our distant students who have no place to stay during their period of learning with Gmyt fashion academy.

"We have also been able to strengthen our online class platform, enabling our distant students to learn from the comfort of their homes and office. The results have been outstanding as our online students all over Nigeria and abroad are doing absolutely well. Aside from all these, we have also added a lot of benefits to our program here in the academy."

She said the aim is to give the best learning experience. "Some of these benefits are mentorship, internship, free start-up kits, free textbooks, free sewing machine, standard learning facility, flexible payment plan and job placement.

"Through God, we will never relent to give back to the society by empowering more men and women. Today we can boldly say that we have trained hundreds of men and women for free, who are now doing very well in the fashion industry. We identify unemployment as the constraints in the society hence also tackling this through our Gmyt SME support scheme initiative."

While advising young entrepreneurs, she said;" Don't just go into a business because someone is into it. Have the passion for it first, Start small; just like I'll tell our students, you don't need millions of naira to start a fashion business. Take advantage of social media platforms and promote your business or go into a partnership if you can't afford to do it alone."

Nairaland / General / 32b Debt: Innoson Ask Court To Set Aside Order Granting GTB Restructuring Permit by Tonydivinep: 7:34am On Jul 12, 2021
Nigeria indigenous Company, Innoson Manufacturing Ltd, has asked a federal high court in Lagos to set aside an order granting Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) permission to transmute to a holding company.

The judgement was contained in a statement made available to newsmen by Cornel Osigwe, head of corporate communications and affairs at Innoson Group.

It stated that the company is asking the court to stay the order granted to the bank on June 16, 2021, “until it pays its total outstanding judgment debt of N32,875,204,984.38 to Innoson Nigeria Ltd.”

Innoson and GTB have had a long business dispute leading to legal battle.

Innoson had secured judgment debt against the bank in suit FHC/L/Cs/603/2006 and FHC/Cs/139/2012 respectively, which rose to over N32 billion due to accumulated interest.

In November 2020, GTB had obtained an approval-in-principle from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to commence a formal process of restructuring to a financial holding company (holdco).

In June 2021, the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group) listed Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc (GT HoldCo) after meeting all the requirements for the new listing.

In a motion on notice brought before the court by Chukwuebuka Okolo, counsel to Innoson Nigeria Ltd, the plaintiff is asking the court to “set aside every step the bank took pursuant to the said ex parte order.”

The company is also seeking “an order of the court to stay further recognition of Guaranty Trust Bank Holding Company Plc. as a financial or non-financial company and or as a legal entity.”

According to the statement, GTB’s action constitutes an abuse of court process having known that there is a pending application in suit No: FHC/EN/CS/161/2020 by Innoson before a federal high court in Enugu to restrain it from transmuting to a private and or a financial holding company until it pays the judgment debt.

“While the case in the Enugu division of federal high court is still pending, GTB against its corporate governance rules and in a classical abuse of court process filed and got an ex parte order from the federal high court, Lagos division and without disclosing to the court that the subject matter of its application is already subjudice because injunctive orders have been sought in Suit No: FHC/EN/CS/161/2020, as well as the subject matter of this pending in Enugu division of the federal high court, to restrain GTB from proceeding with the said scheme both in a pending interlocutory and in the substantive suit,” the statement reads.

*Wants CAC to halt GTB deregistration as a public limited liability coy

Innoson Nigeria Limited has sought an order restraining Guarantee Trust Bank, GTB, from transmuting to a Private and a Financial Holding Company until it pays N32 billion in judgement debt.

It would be recalled that the Federal High Court, Awka Division on March 27th, 2019, pursuant to Supreme Court dismissing GTB’s appeal, granted leave to Innoson Nigeria Ltd to enforce and execute the judgment and Garnishee Order Absolute made by the court coram Shakarho, J at the Ibadan Judicial Division on the 18th of May 2010 and the 29th of July 2011 respectively.

This order was concurrently affirmed by the Court of Appeal in the judgment of 6th February 2014 and by the Supreme Court in its judgment of 27th February 2019.

Innoson commenced the tedious act of the execution, while GTB went to the court to vide its desperate motion on notice seeking orders staying or suspending the execution embarked by Innoson Nigeria Ltd and also seeking orders setting aside the exparte Orders made by the Court granting Innoson leave to enforce the judgment and to issue the processes of executing same.

“GTB however rushed back to the Supreme Court and applied for an order setting aside the Supreme Court’s judgement dismissing its appeal against the above judgement. However, the Supreme Court struck out the motion on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2020.

“While Innoson Nig Ltd awaits GTB to come up with a payment plan for it's over N32Billion Judgement debt, GTB resorted to a scheme of de-registering itself as a public limited liability company and re-registering itself as a private limited liability company and a financial holding company as well.
