Following the petition of Oginigba people, on how the immediate past governor of Rivers State and current Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike had more than a year ago cordoned off parts of the community land and used it for his HyperCity Shopping mall, thereby denying the people of Oginigba the right to their ancestral land which they have been using as a market place for many years.

And in line with our plans to enhance economic drive in Obio/Akpor Local Government, we have reopened the Oginigba market and handed it over to the people of Oginigba who are the original owners to continue with their trading and add economic value to the local government.

I will be meeting with the leadership of Oginigba people next week to constitute market committee that will effectively manage the market.

Called Kpangbudu by Arogbo-ijaws, Onunu by the Kalabari-Ijaws, known as Ipopoburu by Okrika-Ijaws, Ebubu by Nembe-Ijaws and fondly called Opopo by the Ibani-Ijaw people.

Onunu is a traditional delicacy of the Ijaws.

This Ijaw very rich meal is a mixture of over riped plantain and yam boiled and pounded together with a little salt and the best quality palm oil to blend.

Onunu is best served with a spicy fish pepper soup, yellow soup or native stew.

Here are the ingredients and method of preparation.

INGREDIENTS
•Yam
•Ripe plantain
•Palm oil

Method:

Put the yam to boil, when it has cooked right about halfway, add the ripe plantains.

Before you pound ensure that both the yams and the plantains have cooked through till soft.

Start to pound the yam first because of its pulp and stretchy nature, once almost smooth, add the ripe plantain.

Once you have gotten both ingredients to a smooth consistency, add a little salt and palm oil.

The mash is still hot, which will take away the curdling taste of palm oil.

Finish off the pounding, until the palm oil properly mixes well, changing the colour to yellow.
Excellence! Your delicious Onunu is ready.

NIGERIAN ARMY ORGANISES SOCIAL MEDIA SEMINAR TO PROMOTE NATIONAL SECURITY

The Department of Civil Military Affairs has recently organized its 35th Social Media Seminar, themed "Harnessing Social Media for National Security," at the Honorable Justice Legbo Kutigi International Conference Center in Minna, Niger State.

Major General Markus Kangye, the Special Guest of Honor, highlighted the critical role of responsible social media use in promoting national security. He warned against the dangers of misinformation and urged influencers to act as peace ambassadors, emphasizing their influence in shaping public perception and trust between the military and civil populace. He encouraged participants to utilize social media to support the Army’s non-kinetic operations and enhance community engagement.

In his address, the Chief of Civil Military Affairs (CCMA), Major General Nosakhare Ugbo stated that the seminar was aimed at addressing the complexities of social media in a volatile security environment. He added that it was a collective responsibility to ensure national security and to combat fake news in the country. The CCMA expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja for his unwavering support in making the event a success.

During the event, the Acting Governor of Niger State, Comrade Yakubu Garba, emphasized the importance of educating social media influencers, bloggers, and youths to enhance social impact and promote accurate information. He acknowledged the Nigerian Army's commitment to peace and security, noting the beneficial partnership between the state government and the military.

The resource persons during the occasion, Dr Ehiz Odigie spoke on leveraging social media for national security, while Mrs Zainab Olabisi Saka discussed the essence of collaboration among law enforcement to address cybersecurity concerns.

The event featured several key highlights, including an interactive session focused on fostering dialogue between military personnel, security agencies, and social media influencers. Additionally, the presentation of souvenirs and a group photograph added to the memorable moments of the day.

A 31-year-old mother has been sentenced for causing the d*ath of her two daughters after she left them inside a car in sweltering weather while she gambled at a casino in North Carolina, U.S.
Launice Shanique Battle, was sentenced on Thursday, July 25, 2024 after she pleaded guilty to the murder of her daughters, Trinity Milbourne, two, and Amora, three. Autopsy revealed that the girls d!ed of hyperthermia, which occurs when the body is exposed to extremely high temperatures. Battle will serve a sentence of a little over seven years, with a possibility of up to 10 and a half years. She was initially charged with two counts of felony m@rder, facing over 80 years in prison.
However, she reached a plea deal with the prosecution and pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. The judge determined that her guilty plea demonstrated her acceptance of responsibility for her actions, warranting a lesser sentence. Battle was arrested in August 27, 2022 after she went to a casino in Raleigh and left her children in the car while she gambled for six hours. On that day, Battle parked her car partially in the shade while temperatures soared to 35°C. It was reported that she left the children at 2:30pm and only returned at 8:30pm and found them unconscious. She rushed the girls to hospital where they were immediately pronounced dead. A medical report stated that the girls’ remains were already in stages of ‘mild decomposition’ when they were found. Meanwhile, Battles’ cousin, Keisha Harris, spoke to WRAL and described her cousin as a responsible parent who just did a ‘careless mistake’

“She was a young girl who might have been experiencing depression or whatever the case may be, she just made a bad decision,” Harris said.

“She was always there. She’s a caring and loving mother to her kids at the end of the day. She’s not a cold-blooded m@rderer. She’s not a k!ller."

EX RIVERS COUNCIL BOSS, NWANOSIKE ALLEGED MULTI-BILLION NAIRA LOOTS EXPOSED

The immediate past Chairman, Ikwerre Local Government Area, Hon. Samuel Nwanosike has been alleged to have looted Multi-Billion Naira from the council Treasury.

Investigation from our reporter, revealed that the former council boss used part of the alleged loot to acquire the old Aristo House in GRA Phase 2 near Casablanca.

This is in addition to a multi-billion Naira hotel facility which contravenes the Rivers State building code.

Nwanosike has been spotted in a trending video pleading to be allowed to pay the penalties as the facility was recently sealed off by the Rivers State Ministry of Physical and Urban Planning.

Nwanosike who is also called ‘Ishi’ was seen pleading profusely to pay the fines, but the Ministry insisted on permanently sealing up the place for defaulting.

Also at the intercession between Onne road and Woji road near Chicken Republic in GRA phase 2, this former chairman acquired and remodeled the property turning it into a 5-star cosmetic shop for his wife.

Unfortunately, Ishi who attempted to perpetuate himself in office as Chairman of Ikwerre LGA for extra 6 months, left the indigenes of the LGA in poverty while he looted the LGA resources to acquire private properties. Except the people arise to call in the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, he is likely to go Scot free, but his trouble is just starting.
