The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) shared photos of the inmates on Friday, July 9 in a post themed; Faces of inmates that escaped from Jos Custodial Centre.

The development was confirmed by Mr Samuel Aguda, the Controller- in-Charge of the command, to newsmen on Friday in Jos.
Aguda, who said that the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, blamed the occurrence on incompetence on the part of members of staff on duty.
He said: “Yesterday [Thursday], at about 1 a.m., four suspects, who are awaiting trial over the kidnapping and armed robbery, escaped from our facility.
“When I came to the scene, I realised that it is either that they duplicated the key to the cell or there was serious negligence on the part of personnel on duty.

Celebrities / Nnamdi Kanu May Lose British Citizenship – Popular Investigative Journalist by tonyluyi1985: 9:54am On Jul 10, 2021
Popular and controversial pharmacist turned investigative journalist, Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo has said that the leader of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) may lose his British citizenship as a result of his actions against the Nigerian State.
She wrote:
1. Nnamdi Kanu is 95% likely to lose his British citizenship due to several attempts to destabilize A COMMONWEALTH COUNTRY. Instead of fighting Buhari face to face, he chickens out calling for the British Home Office. Now those ones want to get rid of him from their diplomatic baggage.
2. The US State Department is reportedly placing Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB counterparts on a No Fly list. They cannot fly into the US. IPOB boys are denied visa entry and Kanu’s British passport banned from use to travel into America. Continue worshiping your leader who will ultimately ruin your life.

Politics / PDP May Be Extinct Before 2023 – Presidential Aide by tonyluyi1985: 12:27pm On Jul 09, 2021
Special Adviser on Media & Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari, Deacon Femi Adesina has said that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may be extinct before the next general elections in 2023.
He wrote:
“PDP is being ravaged and savaged politically, and if care is not taken, the Party could become an empty shell before 2023. The vessel is leaking, and taking in water massively. It may have to scream May Day, May Day soon, and evacuate.”
“The irony of it all is that whenever the PDP is making gains politically, all is jolly well and good. But when it suffers reversals, then democracy is threatened in the country.”
“In 2015, by the time the dust of general elections settled, the All Progressives Congress (APC) had 24 Governors. PDP had 12, and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) had one. PDP, which had always vaunted itself as Africa’s largest party, threatening to rule us for minimum of 60 years, was looking like King Lear at his worst. It had been knocked off its perch at the national level, also in many States, and its snout yanked from the country’s honeypot. It was terribly unhappy.”
“By combination of schism, implosion and explosion, APC did not manage its success well. By 2019, the number of its governors had dwindled to about 19. And PDP was reaping the harvest. But APC retooled, got itself straightened out, and returned to winning ways. Gov Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State ported into APC. Followed by Ben Ayade of Cross River. And now Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State. APC is equally swelling in terms of lawmakers and membership, both at the Federal and State levels. The winner takes it all, the loser standing small”.
“PDP, at its lugubrious worst, is screaming and kicking. They are plundering us! Democracy is in danger! Oh, really? Since when?”
“Welcoming Matawalle into the APC early last week, President Buhari said the party was becoming more popular “because of its impressive performance record and commitment to good governance.”
“True. But PDP never wants to hear that, and it accounts for all the obfuscation we see in the country. We have security challenges, very severe ones, no doubt. And those challenges are being frontally confronted, with the criminals “being sent to God to account for their crimes.” But PDP has made it a passion to daily trumpet negative developments, as if those were the only things happening in the land”.

Literature / A Certain Kind Of Deafening Pain: A Review Of October Blues By Obiageli Ilosiaka by tonyluyi1985: 11:19am On Jul 09, 2021
There is one special thing about water - it is formless. It assumes and takes the shape of an object you pour it into and once you remove it from a particular object and pours it into another, it immediately take the shape of the current object. Hence a chameleon comes in this form too because it takes to the colour of the environment it found itself at a given time. Naturally, its adaptability to different environments helps it escapes many dangers, preys and many other things that should have harmed it. However, this is the same trait with some writers out there. They in their uniqueness can fit in into many places, situations, conditions, environments, problems and spheres. They know how to handle each character in their work. The crisis of that character, and how to keep up with the climax of a story and all that within a little time or no time at all. Therefore, in their own wisdom, they know when to move, hide, act quickly or remain normal in a given situation. However, one of such Writers is Obiageli Iloakasia, a special kind of thinker.

Obiageli knows how to come into different forms and take different shapes in different environments to make sure she delivers to her readers or rather her audience in such a way that keep her words in their imaginative eyes and, her words remain with her readers relatably. Echoing from Suzy Kassem in "Rise up and Salute the Sun: the writing of Suzy Kassem" — Humility is a virtue of the heavenly, not arrogance. Are we the most superior beast on earth? No, not in strength and not in intelligence. It is very arrogant to assume that we are the most intelligent species when we keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again. Both rats and monkeys have been shown to learn from error, yet we have not. More people have died in the name of religion than any other cause on earth..." Obiageli' works are a replicate of humility, Society, persistence and hope. She tends to imitate what's happening in her environment and tell a story from it. She represents the girl in the street, the boy on a bicycle heading home, the mother with a basket of pawpaw on her head and a baby on her back. She represents those massacred by the Nigerian Police; she represents those killed and those Innocent ones taken to prison wrongly. She represents home and the church, a mother and a father. She represents those abused, those frustrated, those rejected and those Innocent bodies littered here and there in Nigeria cemeteries and nobody cares about them.

"...two weeks ago,
death deferred its will to flesh
and whisked my brother away.
men draped in night hues abducted
and murdered him.
before he died,
he beckoned to me but we were worlds apart...

in no time, news of my brother faded
into thin air, and his remains was denied us."

Obiageli, indeed, is an eye that watches when others are asleep. Through her book, she tends to mimic the society and speak against her evil ways towards her citizens. One can call her an observer but no, she is an amazing student of Life, a sailor who knows where her ship is headed. Very often have I told myself many times, that the only way to correct the ills of the society is by writing and acting against them and in so doing, we are documenting lives and evils done to us and those we did to ourselves, telling the generation to come that there were things that happened before they came and they should not go back to them rather they should make their own mistake and retrace their steps so that the ones coming after them will not make same mistake they have made.

Obiageli Iloakasia knows what is at stake and has taken a mantle of Albert Einstein' words when he said "One should guard against Preaching to young people success in the customary form as the aim in life. The most important motive for work in school and in life is pleasure in work, pleasure in its result, and the knowledge of value of the result to the community" One of man's biggest deals is his ego. In this vein, Men in their nature can forgive almost anything that comes their way but some men, when they are threatened, dared or openly provoked with taunting that makes them feel harmed, bruised in their ego, you'll get a different man. Here, there is a different Ilosiakasia in anger. There is a different perspective of Ilosiakasia who is provoked and bruised and she fiercely inanes this anger in every of her line. "...In October, 2020, we were convinced that we were doing nothing but hunting shadows..." Speaking against religion bigotry, favoritism, nepotism, banditry, religion massacre, and young dreams that died at the moment they are seen, born or conceived in Nigeria in tears.

"...today,
we are 60 years old
still, we wonder thoughtlessly in the cold.

foes dance in celebration.
friends die from intimidation.

we want to know what it means to dream
and how it feels
to have the Nigerian dream redeemed.

after today,
songs will cease and our clothes
will flutter in the breeze.

we did not choose this life
if we ever get another chance
may it feel like an emerald paradise."

She was deliberate with her delivery and installation of every word. Angered by what she sees every day but she made sure that there's a way that this angered words give pleasure to our ears or eyes. She in her mindfulness emphasizes the fact that it is not necessary to kill a hungry boy whose only means of survive was to steal from those that have many and could not share the many they have but allows it to get spoilt, then, throws it away when there are many people who need the food to live. You don't kill a hungry boy.

"they traded his body for a pot of beans.
now, we wallow at dawn and dusk searching for what we might never find."

The book October Blues, 143 pages, published by Libretto publishers; 2021, is divided into four sections in such a way that it helps to give the reader a very key mindset to understand every aspect of the book easily. Section one of the book which is titled — October 2020 — has about 31 poems in it. This part of the book is key to Nigeria history. October 1, 1960, was when Nigeria gained its independence from Great Britain hence this section opens up with a poem that talks about the Anniversary of Nigeria. "...today, we are 60 years old still, we wonder thoughtlessly in the cold./foes dance in celebration/friends die from intimidation..." The poet personae wonders what the country has achieved for the past sixty years as she went on to mourn what has become of her after the colonial masters left her shore. Yet, the section didn't stop there. It went ahead to discuss about the happenings of 2020 from the COVID—19 to the end SARS protest and the Lekki tollgate Massacre which happened on the 20 October, 2020. "...that morning,/ I woke up to an empty home in ashes./ doubts and confusion became contraptions/ I struggled to unfold/for our home of peace was no longer a single fold..."

"...Ah!
our home has been set on fire.
No!
no one is talking about peace but war.
Yes!
every victory starts with conflict.
Ewo!
our whole land is stain..."

"...even till now,
the authorities have not asked
what our demands are.
they have not looked our way..."

...today is the 20thday of October,
the 17th day since we started our songs
for freedom.

like every other day,
we have struggled to stay alive.
some of my brothers have died;
some of my sisters have died, too..."

The essence of this outpour of tears is that, regardless of what happens, that no man, not even an enemy deserve to be humiliated in public yet Nigeria has humiliated us in many ways and this humiliation has made many of us think that we are worth nothing but fools, wanderers like our Leaders have made us to look. That is why you see many Nigerians ready to leave this country every day because the land has no future for them and many of them have resulted to fraudsters and we are still battling to contain this in our society.

However, the section two of the book titled INTIMIDATION, is further divided into three parts or levels which are— Knowledge before 1960, Knowledge after 1960, National Pledge. With the total number of 39 poems, this section clearly presents to us the totality of what our country, Nigeria is from the day of its amalgamation to its independence and currently, where we are right now. The poems were all inspired by the first Nigeria national anthem as emphasized by the poet personae. Here, we see a different anger tailored in asking why our land is still the way it is till now. Why the hope we all aspired isnt coming to us. There are many questions people are asking which nobody have been bold enough to answer them. "...our own dear native land, /why do you not have lands to build on?/ on which soil would I tell the world, that you ruined the life of your child.

In the section three of the book which has 20 poems in total is titled TRIBUTE. It is a section dedicated to those who died in this chaotic country. "...For our brothers and sisters who died as victims of a failed system...". It is not surprising that many Nigerians have died because power failure. Many of them have died because of Doctors strike. Many of them have died because of lack of medical facilities. This is a section for those who were massacred either by the police or the bandit or the SARS or the Leaders themselves or by Hunger or by Boko Haram or by the people around them — Neighbours. The names mentioned are names that echo when we remember how they died. Sometimes when we remember them, we'll go naked to curse the sun or the leaders who see all that is happening but make no move or effort to stop them. This is for Ayomide Taiwo, For Tina Ezekwe, for Tiamiyu Kazeem, for Chibuike Anams and many others who died leaving us broken "...In my country/ you have no identity other than the one forced upon you. /this was your fate, and the pain lingers on/.

"...today is not a good day
for the sun to shine.
the sadness in my heart flows
like a river of tears,
and the pain numbs my senses..."

Furthermore, in the last section— RUMINATION — 36 poems, Obiageli observes that "...The typical Nigerian’s life is full of intricate realities; complex ideas, unanswered questions and in between feelings..." This is where her reality comes in. The emotional aspect of being a writer born and bred in Nigeria comes in. She writes "...when night comes and the world goes to rest/a pen and paper comes knocking and calls me friend/ write your pain away and the pain of the world they tell me/ but when you write, make sure you point no accusing fingers.." This is for a writer seeking balance, for a writer who is vulnerable and must listen to her muse X-raying her being. It is for the totality of her being. This is where the emotion of this book comes in and "... now, you must find away to let the world read this/ you must speak of the truth you see/ this is your heritage and your call for life/ through this will our stories be preserved/put down things that should be said and do not hold back truth from your lips/ tell tales that should be told but when you write/ make sure you point no accusing fingers..." This is the only way we could recreate and balance what have been created. Writers are wings, they fly with words to many places their feet may never step on till they die. Writers such as Obiageli are winds. They blow to the West, East, South and North amending things which were once destroyed.

This is a book that takes you back and forth with vivid imagination of what Nigeria has become or has done to us as Citizens. Historical, this is the first time different tribes in Nigeria — Yoruba, Igbo and Niger-delta are coming out to say they need to govern themselves, they want to break out from Nigeria because the doctrines of a failed system has gotten into their throats and they can't swallow it anymore. Hence I'll call Obiageli Iloakasia a kin observer or rather a prophetess because she was able to take us back to history and then bring us to the present and the future looks at us beautifully from her imagination. She is bold enough to handle what may seem like a treasure to the next generation in a different manner.

Celebrities / Marriage Is A Family Affair Not Church Issue – Former Presidential Aide by tonyluyi1985: 9:49am On Jul 09, 2021
Popular social commentator, lawyer and former Presidential Aide, Reno Omokri has cautioned aspiring couples on getting pastoral consent rather than their parental.
He argued that it is not scriptural to get pastor’s consent for marriage as from Genesis to Revelation no priest or pastor was mentioned to have given his opinion on marriage but it solely the parent’s call.
He wrote:
“It is unscriptural to get pastoral consent for marriage before parental consent. God invented marriage in Genesis 2:24. Those He included were the couple and their parents. No mention of pastor or priest. Don’t let ANY pastor put a burden on you that God DID NOT put. ‬From Genesis to Revelation, Scriptural marriages have ALWAYS been a family affair, not a church issue. Do not be deceived by any pastor, no matter how highly placed. Take your guidance from Scripture, not man. Get parental consent, not pastoral consent
Read the entire Scripture for yourself. It is not hard. You can do it. Nowhere do you see anyone consulting priests, prophets or pastors before choosing a marriage partner. Isaac consulted his parents. Jacob consulted his parents. The 10 commandments command you to honour your parents, not your pastor!
If your parents attend your wedding, they are automatically God’s representatives, even if the wedding takes place in your village.”

Section 9(A) of the newly passed bill states: “As from the commencement of this law, the police shall refrain from parading any suspect before the media.”

The bill adds that a person who is arrested “shall be given reasonable facilities for obtaining legal advice, bail or making arrangements for defence or release.”

Davido stepping out for the first time in Atlanta after the death of Obama DMW mourned him as he prays that his soul rests in peace adding that he’s unstoppable and he looks so down and not cheerful as he has always been.

Crime / Buhari Is Obeying The Constitution By Crushing Kanu And Igboho – Lawyer by tonyluyi1985: 11:47am On Jul 04, 2021
The First Vice-President of the Nigerian Bar Association, John Aikpokpo-Martins has thrown his weight behind the use of force by President Muhammadu Buhari in crushing the secessionist bids of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho.
According to John Aikpokpo-Martins, Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho should be dealt with for the confusion and disunity they are trying to bring to the country. He took to his Facebook page to write a post titled, STIRRING THE HORNET’S NEST; THE MENS REA.
He said: “Let it be known that there is a major difference in the agitation of the Niger Delta militants as led by Tompolo etc to the agitations of Boko Haram, IPOB and Sunday Igboho.
“Tompolo never agitated for a different country; this is very very significant and must reflect on how he is treated.
“Whereas Boko Haram, IPOB and Sunday Igboho are agitating to carve different countries out of Nigeria, Tompolo never did that; he is a Nigerian and advocates for justice and equity albeit as a Nigerian and in Nigeria.
“Constitutionally, no President (whether he is a Buhari, Nnamdi, Babatunde, Ahmed, Osahon, Wike, Aper etc) worth his job will treat those agitating for self-determination with kid’s gloves; he is constitutionally and legally mandated and obliged to crush such people.
“You may mouth fundamental human rights to self-determination etc, but the fact is, the Nigerian constitution described Nigeria as one indivisible country; see section 2(1) of the 1999 constitution.”

Crime / Chidinma Ojukwu Confesses To Tying Usifo Ataga Before Killing And Stealing From by tonyluyi1985: 11:25am On Jul 04, 2021
The suspect in the murder of Michael Usifo Ataga, Chidinma Ojukwu has confessed to tying him up as he slept while intoxicated with drugs before stabbing him fatally and withdrawing some money with his ATM.
According to her, she knew the late CEO of Super TV won’t give her what she wanted hence she tied his hands when he slept after they had sex hoping that he will give her whatever she asks of him when he wakes up in that state.
But then he refused to give her what she wanted therefore they started struggling with each other and that was when she stabbed him to take the money she wanted because she really needed that money for something yet to be known.
Chidinma added that after stabbing him she took some of his belongings just to make sure that she isn’t involved or busted for what she did but unfortunately that is what has happened and now she’s been labeled as a murderer.
Her latest confession doesn’t add up as it contradicts what she earlier said about his murder. Is she covering up for someone or a group of people as she doesn’t appear to have acted alone?

Celebrities / Linda Ikeji: I Was Kicked Out Of Miss Nigeria Contest In 2003 by tonyluyi1985: 9:30am On Jul 04, 2021
Billionaire Nigerian Blogger, Linda Ifeoma Ikeji has shared a touching story during her struggling days of how she failed to win the Miss Nigeria contest in 2003.

Number 8 at the 2003 Miss Nigeria pageant. I thought I was going to win but I didn't even make top 10. That night was one of the worse nights of my life. I remember just asking myself what I was going to do with the rest of my life because for some arrogant reason, I'd built a future around being Miss Nigeria even before the pageant held. Sigh. For two straight days I cried wondering what to do next.

I wanted to be successful. I wanted to be somebody. I wanted to be rich. And here I was being told that I wasn't even good enough to be Miss Nigeria...lol.

After a few days of feeling sorry for myself, I got fired up. I said to myself, this life isn't going to defeat me or pass me by. I must count. I'll fight with every bone in my body to be successful. I don't care how long it will take but one day, I'll matter. Well, I'm still fighting but I'm doing very okay now!

For everyone fighting for their dreams right now and keep getting disappointed, please don't let it discourage you. Failure is part of success. Every disappointment, every NO, everytime things don't work out is for you to have a story to tell tomorrow. As long as you don't give up, as long as you're persistent, as long as you believe in yourself and your dream even when others don't believe... success will find you. And God will sit next to you and never leave your side. I wish you all well and I hope all your dreams come through.

Crime / Alleged Billionaire Murder: Chidinma Ojukwu Booked The Apartment Where He Was Mu by tonyluyi1985: 9:51am On Jul 03, 2021
A preliminary police report on the alleged murder of the Chief Executive Officer of Super TV, Michael Usifo Ataga, indicates that Chidinma Adaora Ojukwu, the 21-year UNILAG student who is the prime suspect in the case, booked the short-let apartment in Lekki where the incident happened using a fake name, Jewel.

The report also indicated that several calls placed to a phone number with which 21-year-old Ojukwu booked didn’t go through after Ataga’s body was discovered in the room on Wednesday, June 16.
The report in part reads

“Mogbo, the facilities manager reported that around 3pm of June 16, 2021, she received a call from her security guard on Adebowale Oshin Street, Lekki Phase I where she has one flat being used as a short let apartment.
She further stated that the security man informed her that one Jewel with a foreign phone number who rented the apartment invited one Usifo Ataga to the apartment yesterday (June 15) and that about 1pm of June 16 when the cleaner wanted to clean the room, he discovered that the door had been broken.
When she (the cleaner) peeped into the room, she discovered that the said Ataga was lying in a pool of blood. All calls put across to the said Jewel to come back to the apartment proved abortive.”

Chidinma was arrested on June 23 at her Alagomeji residence and was paraded before newsmen on June 24 where she confessed to stabbing the TV boss multiple times. She claimed she met Ataga some months back at a wild party and that they have been seeing each other since then.

Celebrities / I Am In A Relationship – Bbn’s Kaisha by tonyluyi1985: 12:11pm On Jul 02, 2021
BBNaija’s Kaisha has said that she is not single as many people widely believe her to be.
Kaisha tweeted saying she said yes and we all know that implies a relationship which is been moved to the next level which is marriage but in this case, Kaisha’s own is different and no one knows what she said yes to.
People all know when ladies are single and never want to say it bluntly that they are single, they go by the phrase of being in a relationship with Jesus Christ and that is exactly what Kaisha is trying to do which means the possibility of she being single is very high.
We still have no idea what Kaisha said yes to and her claims of being in a relationship with Jesus Christ make us doubt whether she said yes to a marriage proposal or said yes to be in a relationship with someone she loves.
The BBN reality star hasn’t been in the news lately as she has been keeping a very low profile. She is one of the few female stars in Nigeria who are scandal free.
We wouldn’t rest until she or we unveil the identity of the mystery man.

Politics / Yoruba Nation Rally Not Allowed In Lagos – CP Odumosu by tonyluyi1985: 9:54am On Jul 02, 2021
The Lagos State Police Command has on Thursday announced that the planned Yoruba Nation rally slated to hold in the state on Saturday will not be allowed.

This was disclosed by the state Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, at a media briefing held in Alausa, Ikeja.

He said, “On no account will any actual or rumoured activity, including the planned mega rally, be allowed to lock down the state or hinder the normal daily activities of the good people of Lagos State.

“Report available to the police command indicates that some disgruntled elements have perfected plans to infiltrate the ranks of protesters, cause mayhem and seize the opportunity to attack and loot properties of the law-abiding citizens of this state.

“Similarly, it has gotten to the knowledge of the command that the organisers’ foot soldiers and mobilisers have concluded plans to embark on procession on the streets of Lagos as part of the programme for the mega rally.

“The effect of this, if allowed to come to fruition, is better known than imagined on the security, traffic and economic activities of a cosmopolitan state like Lagos.”

However, the umbrella body of Yoruba self-determination groups, Ilana Omo Oodua, has maintained that the Yoruba Nation rally will hold in the state as scheduled.

This is according to a statement signed by its leader, Emeritus Professor Banji Akintoye, and made available to newsmen by his Communications Manager, Mr. Maxwell Adeleye.

“We want to confirm again that the Pro-Yoruba Nation rally scheduled to hold on Saturday, July 3rd, in Lagos will proceed as scheduled” the statement read in part.

Politics / Nnamdi Kanu Writes British High Commission For Unconditional Release As A Britis by tonyluyi1985: 9:33am On Jul 02, 2021
Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) has written to the British High Commissioner in Nigeria, Catriona Laing for his unconditional release from Nigerian Custody as a British Citizen.
His letter in part reads:
"We are solicitors to the above-named British citizen, on whose behalf and Instruction we write this letter to request urgent Consular assistance to him. Mr. Okwu-Kanu (aka Nnamdi Kanu) is the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Director of Radio Biafra, both of which are corporate citizens of the United Kingdom.
Mr. Kanu resides in the United Kingdom, from which soil he departed on an overseas trip on or about June 19, 2021, on a British Passport No: 556543086 (copy of biographic page attached herewith).
We are reliably informed that while he was on said overseas travel, he was intercepted in Kenya by Nigeria's foreign security agents and brought to Nigeria against his will on or about June 27, 2021, and 'arraigned' before the Federal High Court in Abuja without the benefit of Counsel on June 29, 2031. Currently, he is being detained in the Directorate of State Security Services (DSS) custody in Abuja.
Your Excellency, permit us to point to a few legal, political and diplomatic issues that have been implicated in this matter. They are;
Mr Kanu is a British citizen travelling on a valid British passport when he was seized in a third country and forcibly brought to Nigeria. Such an act constitutes an unlawful rendition of a bonafide British citizen.
He was not travelling on Nigerian passport or the passport of any other country, including that of Kenya. There is no extant Order of extradition by any British Court or any other foreign Court (including Kenya) and we are informed that no pending extradition proceedings are standing against him in Britain or Kenya.
There is no deportation Order by any Kenyan Court or other authority that made him subject to deportation. But if there was, the country of his deportation should have been Britain on which passport he was travelling. Deporting him to Nigeria just because he was born in Nigeria, but not travelling on her passport, is unlawful under international law.
The enterprise upon which Mr Kanu is engaged, which is: seeking the restoration of the defunct State of Biafra through a referendum is a protected political opinion (i.e. self-determination) under British and Nigerian Laws, where it is enacted at CAP A9, Article 20, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
In our view, the manner of his interception and forcible deportation to Nigeria is extra-legal and does not comport with the pertinent international laws and treaties to which Nigeria is subject.
Based on the foregoing, we hereby make the following Prayers; That Mr Kanu be granted every possible Consular assistance to which he is entitled as a British citizen; that Mr Kanu be categorized as a high profile political prisoner or a prisoner of conscience and be thus rendered the highest diplomatic protection under municipal and international laws.
That the Nigerian authorities be prevailed upon to immediately allow access to Mr Kanu by his Lawyers, Doctors and Family members.
That the Nigerian authorities be prevailed upon to immediately avail Mr Kanu the opportunity of being taken to any hospital of his choice for medical examination.
That the British authorities file a Diplomatic Note or other legal processes with Nigeria's Federal High Court and the Office of the Attorney General of Nigeria indicating her sovereign interest in Mr Kanu's matter.
That the British authorities declare that Mr Kanu is not a criminal but a person who possesses a political opinion the Nigerian authorities seek to suppress using punishment of some sort.
That the British authorities urgently demand the unconditional release of Mr Kanu from detention. While we await your urgent and most favourable considerations of our Prayers, please be assured of our highest esteem for Your Excellency, the High Commission and the British Government.''

The winner of the 2020 Big Brother Nigeria, Olamilekan Agbeleshe a.k.a Laycon has responded to Erica’s accusation against him of being a snake.
You would recall that Erica was disqualified following her misbehaviour in the house after raining insults and unprintable words at Laycon for saying that she tried to kiss him on several occasions.
In a recently aired episode of the Reunion 2021, she described him as a snake and cautioned people to be very careful of their dealings with him as he loves playing the victim card so that people will show him some empathy.
Laycon reacted by saying that his major focus is to make good music that his fans can buy and stream and that the conflict between them could have been avoided back then.
He said: “What happened could have been avoided and also, it should or could, probably be mended at some point”.

Celebrities / Bbnaija Reunion 2021: I Feel Stupid For Associating Myself With Laycon – Erica by tonyluyi1985: 9:47am On Jun 29, 2021
Erica who was disqualified from the last year’s edition of the Big Brother Nigeria Show has said that she feels stupid for associating herself with Laycon.
She felt he had her back and regretted trusting him. According to Erica, after her disqualification, she came out to watch several videos of Laycon and Vee talking bad about her. She also stated that the videos she watched when she came out from the house and she realize that she has been stupid. She also added that watching the video made her regret rendering an apology to Laycon.
Fans of the show will recall that she was disqualified after she thoroughly insulted Laycon while he kept his cool in a sign of maturity. There has been no love lost since then between the duo and Erica never stops at lambasting him at the slightest opportunity.
We hope that they use this reunion to reconcile and move on with their respective lives. Erica has gone on to become a brand influencer while Laycon has gone on to be a successful musician with the release of two hit singles and a well received album.

Politics / How Prepared Are We For A Post Oil Economy? – Tony Ademiluyi by tonyluyi1985: 7:38am On Jun 29, 2021
How prepared are we for a Post Oil Economy? – Tony Ademiluyi
In 1959 after Fidel Castro came to power in Cuba when he defeated the opposing forces of Fulgencio Batista who had earlier imprisoned him, he decided to make the small country a Communist State. This pitched him against the United States in the then heady days of the Cold War when the US who prided herself as the leader of the free world were determined to stop the growing influence of the defunct Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). Under the Presidency of John Fitzgerald Kennedy, he sponsored some Cuban dissidents with the help of the CIA to topple the government of Castro in the famous Bay of Pigs Invasion which ended up in a gargantuan fiasco. An embargo was placed on Cuba and its main revenue earner – Sugar greatly suffered. Castro rose up to the challenge by investing massively in education and making it free at the primary and secondary levels and highly subsidized at the tertiary. He focused greatly on the training of medical doctors. Today, the main revenue earner of Cuba is in her exportation of medical doctors around the world which brings in billions of dollars to her. The demand for doctors is inelastic as doctors will be needed as long as the world exists and so they can hardly even meet the global demand for them.
Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Crown Prince, Mohammed Bin Salman has unveiled the Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 which has the grand ambition to end the Kingdom’s dependence on oil by dedicating $2 trillion of their Sovereign Wealth Fund to prepare her for a post oil economy.
Nigeria is still yet to come to terms with the reality of a post oil economy as she lives as though the demand for the black gold will be there forever. There is no bold plan to wean her economy off total oil dependence. It is ridiculous that many of our Governors cannot pay salaries of civil servants and pensioners as and at when due because of the paucity of funds that accrue to them from the Federation Account. Political pundits will not forget the ludicrous excuse given by the erstwhile Osun State Governor and current Minister for the Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola for the non payment of the salaries of civil servants for close to a year despite doing many white elephant projects because of the short fall of revenue from the Centre. The Nigerian Labour Congress is up in arms against the Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai over the sacking of many civil servants because the controversial Governor said he cannot fulfill his monthly obligations to the workers ostensibly because of the state’s over reliance on oil revenues.
Before the discovery of oil in commercial quantities, Nigeria was developed on the back of agriculture. It was the revenues from cocoa that made the then Premier of the Western Region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo build the Cocoa House, Liberty Stadium, established the Western Nigeria Television (WNTV) which was the first in Africa at a time when many countries in Europe didn’t have it, introduced the free primary education scheme and even scholarships for young westerners desirous of a university education. My Late Grandfather, John Osoba Ebuade Iyamabo got a scholarship to the University of Aberdeen where he studied Forestry between 1954 and 1958. Awolowo’s premiership between 1952 to 1959 still remains a reference point for political leadership in the country till date. Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Dr. Michael Okpara built the Eastern Region which at the zenith of Okpara’s premiership was described as one of the fastest growing regions in Africa on the back of palm oil and coal. Sir Ahmadu Bello, Premier of the Northern Region developed the north with groundnuts. The ‘Curse of Oil’ written by the erudite Political Economist, Management Scholar and former Presidential Aspirant, Professor Pat Utomi aptly describes the tragedy of oil which has turned out to be more of a curse than a blessing.
Many countries in Europe has set 2030 which is less than nine years away as the time for the total phasing out of fossil fuel run vehicles in favour of electric cars. Imperial College has scrapped its famous Masters in Petroleum Engineering in response to this new global reality.
I shudder when Niger Delta leaders still scream their voices hoarse on the relevance of oil rather than challenging themselves in building knowledge driven economies which can truly create wealth.
Nigeria desperately needs digitally compliant and visionary leaders that can effectively steer the ship of state in these highly troubled times. Singapore, a tiny country leap frogged from a Third to a First World Country because of the massive investment in education by the Lee Kuan Yew led leadership. Wealth has long shifted from the abundance of natural resources to human capital development.
I will not bore you with foreign examples and will strict to strictly local examples to more effectively drive home my point. Flutterwave, a Fintech was founded by two young Nigerians – Samuel Iyinoluwa Aboyeji and Olugbenga Agboola in 2016 to provide payments solutions. They attained Unicorn status – an over one billion dollar valuation in barely five years and have raised over 200 million dollars for its expansion within this short space of time. Their closest competitor, Paystack founded in 2015 by Sola Akinlade and Ezra Olubi – two Babcock University graduates was acquired for a whooping $200 million by Stripe in 2020 after just five years of their existence. Technology Companies in Nigeria despite the harsh business environment have raised hundreds of millions of dollars in the last decade. How many Nigerian companies run by rent seekers who masquerade as businessmen have achieved similar success? How many corrupt politicians who have massive slush funds and deploy it into phony business enterprises with front businessmen have emerged as Unicorns even two decades?
It is really scary that our population which is projected to balloon to over 400 million by 2050 is now more of a liability than an asset as a result of the lack of effective leadership to harness it like what the Chinese leaders did. The government isn’t even thinking about ways to develop STEM education as well as technology to create jobs, develop an alternative revenue earner to oil and create sustainable wealth in the country which will in no minuscule measure stop the insurgency and banditry which has its roots in the pervasive poverty in the land.
There is no sturdy government backed plan to create a post oil economy. What will be the fate of our economy in the next decade if this non challant attitude continues?
I did my National Youth Service Corps in The Shell Petroleum Development Company, Warri and I witnessed first hand how the entire economy of Warri was built on oil. There were many so called emergency billionaires there who weren’t wealth creators but were wholly dependent on contracts from the two oil majors – Shell and Chevron for their economic survival. They had no industries or factories and couldn’t be described as wealth creators. Shell in the last decade has massively scaled down their investments in Warri with the sale of many of its assets there including its premises and transfer of its members of staff to Lagos, Port Harcourt and Abuja. The town is now a shadow of itself. What will be its fate if Chevron decides to leave as there are strong rumours that it also plans to?
The plight of Warri will be the fate of Nigeria if our leaders don’t rise up to the challenge of preparing adequately for a post oil economy.
A stitch in time saves nine!

Health / Cognitive Health; Positive Thinking – Caroline Ademiluyi by tonyluyi1985: 12:40pm On Jun 28, 2021
Preamble
Thinking is a physical act. The organ we use for thinking is the Brain, which is considered the most important organ of the body; it controls and coordinates actions and reactions, allows us to think and feel and every other activity pertaining to the human person. The brain benefits of exercise goes beyond disease prevention; apart from cutting down risks from Memory loss and Alzheimer's disease, regular exercising leads to greater brain volume in areas of the brain associated with reasoning and executive function.
The brain is a complex and energetic organ which tells your body how to function using a system of nerves. It contains billions of nerve cells or neurons and it coordinates thought, emotion, behaviour, movement and sensation.
Exercising makes the heart beat faster, thereby increasing the level of oxygen in the blood and which flows to the brain. The brain needs a continuous supply of oxygen and glucose from the blood for the maintenance of brain function. The brain depends on glucose as it's main source of energy. The brain is about 2% of the body weight but consumes about 20% of the glucose- energy, making it the main consumer of glucose. The brain uses about 25% of your oxygen intake, so there is need for sufficient supply of oxygen.
In a study carried out by Ozioma Okonkwo , Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Aerobic capacity boosts brain structure , function and cognition.Physical activity also increases levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor ( BDNF), which is known to repair and protect brain cells from degeneration, as well as help grow new brain cells and neurons, says Okonkwo.
THE MENTAL HEALTH BENEFITS OF EXERCISE
Exercise is a powerful depression fighter, promoting all kinds of changes in the brain, including neural growth, and new activity patterns that promote feelings of calm and well being. It releases Endorphins, which are powerful chemicals in your brain that energise the spirits and make you feel good. Exercise relieves tension and stress in the body, relaxes the muscles boosts physical and mental energy and enhance well being through the release of endorphins.Since the body and mind are closely linked, when the body feels better, so too will your mind.
Exercising is one of the easiest and most effective ways to reduce the symptoms of Attention- Deficit / Hyperactive Disorder(ADHD) and improve concentration, motivation, memory and mood. Physical activity immediately boosts the brain's dopamine,nor-epinephrine and serotonin levels- all of which affect focus and attention positively, much in the same way as the ADHD medications work.
Exercise can provide sharper memory and thinking- the same endorphins that make you feel better also help you concentrate and feel mentally sharp for the tasks at hand. Exercise can stimulate the growth of new brain cells and prevent age- related decline, provide better sleep, increase energy; when faced with mental or emotional challenge in life, exercise can help you build resilience and cope in a healthy way, instead of resorting to drugs ,alcohol or other negative behaviours that only make your symptoms worse. Regular exercise can also boost your immune system and reduce the impact of stress.
It is worthwhile to give topmost priority to exercising regularly, because of the tremendous benefits towards helping one to acquire excellent inherent qualities of mind and character.
COGNITIVE HEALTH
There is an adage that says "Use it or lose it" This applies not only to our physical health but also to our cognitive health. Exercise sharpens cognitive skills. Physical activity increases the volume of the brain's hippocampus, that part of the brain which is known for it's involvement in creating new memories and remembering facts and events --in other words, it improves learning and memory. Physical activity can thus strengthen brain function and memory.
Approaches to brain health also include a well-balanced diet, low in fat, low in cholesterol and high in anti-oxidants. In addition to good nutrition, regular exercise can never be over-emphasised. According to Dr. Bender, MD, Section Chief of the Geriatric and Memory Centre at Broadlawns Medical centre in Des Moines Iowa, USA, regular exercise can promote vascular health and protect brain tissue. According to him, 'The brain wants to learn new things'. He noted that some researchers believe that people are more vulnerable to dementia when they pay less attention to the things around them- that when the brain is passive, it has a tendency to atrophy. Sedentary and relatively passive activities such as sitting in front of a TV for hours a day,can be detrimental to brain health over time.
Since the brain is involved in everything we do, brain exercises should be given top priority especially as one gets older. Doing certain brain exercises to help boost memory, concentration and focus can make daily tasks quicker and easier to do and will keep the brain sharp as one gets older.
BRAIN EXERCISES
• Jigsaw puzzle-Research shows that doing Jigsaw puzzles recruits multiple cognitive abilities; when you look at jigsaw puzzles, you have to look at the different pieces and figure out where they fit within the larger picture, which can be a great way to challenge and exercise the brain.
• Game of Cards-Researchers who conducted a study in 2015 on mentally stimulating activities for adults, say a quick card game can led to a greater brain volume in several regions of the brain; that a game of cards can improve memory and thinking skills.
• Building of your vocabulary-Research shows that many more regions of the brain are involved in vocabulary tasks, particularly in areas that are important for visual and auditory processing. This cognitive boosting activity can be carried out viz- Keeping a notebook when reading, writing down one unfamiliar word and looking up the definition and trying using that word five times the next day.
• Dancing-The Centres for Disease Prevention and Control notes that learning new dance moves can increase your brain's processing speed and memory.
• Use All your Senses.-a 2015 Research report suggests that using all your senses. Making the necessary efforts at recollection regarding the use of the senses, can be very useful brain exercises .To give your senses and your brain a workout, try doing activities that simultaneously engage all five of your senses: You could try baking a batch of cookies or visiting a new restaurant while you focus on smelling, touching, seeing and hearing all at the same time.
• Learn a new skill--Apart from being fun learning a new skill, it may also help strengthen the connections in the brain. Research carried out in 2014 showed that learning a new skill can help improve memory function in older adults.
• Teach a new skill to someone else-One of the best ways to expanding your learning is to teach a skill to another person.
• Listen to or play music-An easy way to increasing your creative brain power may lie in turning on some music: The brain is capable of learning new skills at any point in your life, so it can be very beneficial to learn to play music, if you've always wanted to. You're never too old to to start playing an instrument like the piano, guitar, or even the drums!
• Take a new route and try new ways I doing things--Be willing to trying new ways to doing the same things in your daily tasks. You can choose a different route, using public transport instead of driving etc -- the brain will benefit tremendously from these simple changes and will become easy to change your thinking.
• Meditation--Daily meditation can increase the brain's ability to process information and fine- tune the memory, apart from calming the body and reducing stress and anxiety.
• Learning a new language --A 2012 research review has overwhelmingly proven the many cognitive benefits of being able to speak more than one language. According to numerous studies, bilingualism can contribute to better memory, improved visual -spatial skills and higher levels of creativity. Being fluent in more than language can also help you switch more easily between different tasks and delay the onset of age-related mental decline.
• The GOOD NEWS is that it is never too late to learn a new language or reaping the benefits of learning a new language, which boosts the memory and improve other mental functions.
• Focus on another person--when interacting with someone, take note of four things about them-- e.g. the colour of the shirt/ dress, whether or not they are wearing glasses, whether they have a hat on and if so, what kind? Colour of hair? etc. Once you decide on four things, make a mental note , come back to it later during the day and write down what you remember about those four details.

POSITIVE THINKING
Thinking is the process of considering or reasoning about something or using thought or rational judgement; thought (or thinking), encompasses a flow of ideas and associations that can lead to logical conclusions. On the other hand, Thinking can also be defined as the action of using one's mind to produce thoughts, or the ultimate cognitive activity, consciously using our brains to make sense of the world around us and decide how to respond to it.
Self-talk is an outcome of thinking patterns. Self-talk is the running dialogue you have with yourself which can be purposeful or random, internal or external. Negative self- talk is UNHEALTHY and usually leads to poor performance, while positive self-talk is HEALTHY and often results in good performance .
Negative self- talk is any inner dialogue that may be limiting your ability to believe in yourself and your own abilities or any thought that diminishes your ability to make positive changes in your life or your confidence in yourself to do so. Negative self- talk can not only be stressful, but can really stunt your success. Rumination and self- blame over negative events have been linked to an increased risk of mental health problems. Focusing on negative thoughts may lead to decreased motivational well as greater feelings of helplessness and has even been linked to depression; there is thus a need to urgently rectify this state. Consequences of negative self-talk can include Limited thinking, Perfectionism, Lowered ability to see opportunities, Insecurity in relationships , Stress, Low self-esteem etc. Negative self- talk can be minimised and over come through acknowledging the problem and using different strategies, including POSITIVE THINKING.
You can learn to turn negative thinking into positive thinking. Positive self -self talk leads to positive thinking. "Is your glass half-empty or half-full?"--this is an age-old question about positive thinking which may reflect your outlook on life, your attitude towards yourself and whether you are optimistic or pessimistic--- and may even affect your health. Negative thinking adversely affects the body, mind and other people around you.
The positive thinking that usually comes with optimism is a key part of effective stress management, which is associated with many health benefits. If you tend to be pessimistic, do not despair--the GOOD NEWS is that you can learn POSITIVE THINKING SKILLS.
To focus on positive thinking, there are different strategies that may work better for different people; here are some ways to think and behave in a more positive way-
• Identify areas to change-Identify areas that you think negatively about and start little by little by focusing on one area of to approach in a more positive way.
• Check yourself-Periodically during the day, check and evaluate what you're thinking about ; if you find that the thought are mainly negative, try to find a way to put a positive spin on them.
• Be open to humour-Smile and laugh more often, especially through difficult times.
• Praying has a very beneficial effect; remembering that you are a creature in presence of the Creator, gives you a sense of security and responsibility that will help to neutralise any negative self talk ; This will help you to generate and maintain a flow of positive communication between the creature and the Creator.
• Acknowledging your strengths and weaknesses is useful, so that you keep striving to serve ever more judiciously with the strengths and constantly make efforts to improve in the area of weaknesses.
CONCLUSION
The brain helps us to think and we utilise our brain when we think; there is an adage that says "Train your brain"--so there is need to pay attention to PRACTICE, DRILL, DISCIPLINE which are all connected with LEARNING and Learning is carried out by the brain.
The brain or mind has to be trained and disciplined to engage in positive thinking so as to overcome the negative aspects associated with the frailty of human nature.
Focusing on your brain health is one of the best things you can do to improve your concentration, focus, memory and mental agility, no matter what age you are.
By incorporating brain exercises into your everyday life, you'll get to challenge your mind, sharpen your cognitive skills and possibly learn something new and enriching long the way too.
Since the brain needs a steady amount of glucose and oxygen to function properly it is worthwhile finding ways to increase oxygen levels like keeping the air at home fresh and clean by adding plants to naturally increase oxygen, use of air purifiers such as salt lamps, peace lilies and bamboo charcoal. Having plants at home can reduce carbon dioxide levels while increasing oxygen levels. Sufficient intake of water( proper hydration) and nutrition can help increase oxygen levels --for instance, eating anti-oxidants helps the body maintain the proper amount of blood oxygen. Try taking lots of fruits and vegetables which contain anti- oxidants , because exhaust fumes, motor engines, charcoal or wood/ kerosene smoke etc can produce carbon monoxide, which are neutralised by the anti- oxidants.
Oxygen levels and brain function go hand -in-hand.When your brain has enough oxygen, your body functions better and you'll feel better. As your blood oxygen levels improve, you might notice improved cognitive function, better balance, and an overall improvement to your health.
