moyosoreakintol: What school is this? because I want to believe it’s a top business school. Asking for enrollment deposit before issuing I-20 to show commitment and secure your place in the incoming class is a very common practice amongst top business schools because of how competitive it is , and can even be as high as $2K/$3K in some schools. The enrollment deposit is typically also added to your tuition contribution, so you can think of it as paying part of your tuition. Therefore, to proceed with your enrollment process, you’ll have to pay the deposit before the deadline, cos if you don’t , then you won’t be issued the i-20 and will have to forfeit the admission by the deadline. I don’t think $1K should be a problem if you have strong reasons to pursue an MBA in a top business school in the first place. MBA’s have one of the highest ROI in the US, especially from a top business school, and the school has even very generous to you taking a whooping $90K off. To answer your question whether to proceed or not, it’s up to you to decide whether to proceed or go for an MBA in a less prominent school with a low or non-deposit requirement (because top schools will definitely as you for enrollment deposit) . 1 Like |

OyoTunjiUSA: 1.) Yes, my MBA is stem designated. I also believe my position and career path is very much in line with the MBA degree/program. 2.) This is why I want to maintain a consistent story from my DS-160 to my I-20 financial declaration and my visa interview. I’ve been in this position for over 5years, and the funds is from my personal savings (salary, bonuses, liquidated assets, etc) 3.) Yes, I do have a manager who will continue to manage the business when I’m away, and I will still continue to earn income/salary. Using my parent as the full sponsor poses some worry, because i read a transcript here where someone who has been working for 8years was denied after using his parents as full sponsor, because the VO expected that at that stage of his life, he personally should be able to show substantial financial contribution to his post graduate study. Saying that I’ve been leading a company/business for years whilst earning income, but I cannot contribute to my post graduate studies and then shouldering the full responsibility on my parents might be contradicting. At the end of the day, I’m just looking for the best story/approach that would be convincing and make sense to the VO. So I appreciate your insights. 4.) I have already visited over 12 countries (UK, France, Italy,UAE, etc) in the last 2yrs for business and personal reasons and never had any reason to apply to the US until now. |

Greetings everyone. I have been following this thread for a while now. I need your advice/contributions as I am about to fill my DS-160 and also fill my I-20 form. I am 26 years old, I have a Bachelor’s in Engineering. I started my business immediately after my BSC and I have been running it for 5years now. As the CEO/Founder, I intend to apply for an MBA to acquire business and managerial skills which I believe will take my business to the next level. My plan initially was to Self sponsor and cover the deficit, firstly because I don’t think it’ll sound well to the VO that a CEO or business founder of 5years can’t at least fund his studies, so I believe this will also give me credibility since i can afford and also willing to invest that much in myself. Secondly, I also want to avoid all the plenty questions about who is funding me and instead just speak for myself. However, a friend told me that might not be a good approach because a VO will most likely believe a 26yr old in Nigeria has $40K to put away for studies, and therefore recommended that I combine it with family funds. Before I proceed with my DS-160 and I-20, I would appreciate your advise on what to do, so I can have my stories straight and be consistent with it from my DS-160 to I-20 to visa interview. Please what do you all advise? 1 Like |

Hello house , Did my biometric 2nd of November I just got my refusal mail today (priority). However i am perplexed by the reason for my refusal. Firstly, i stated that I am self employed, attached all the necessary documents to prove this (Business reg certificate, Tax clearance, corporate account statement, etc). I also stated that my personal account was used for business before I created my corporate/business account, so all huge deposit were strictly for business (I attached so many invoices and receipts) . I also stated that I intend to spend N1,150,000 on my trip. It is just as if the ECO didn’t go through my application at all (saying I declared N1,150,000 as extra income) , and also complained about my credits when I already clarified that with proofs (receipt and invoices). The last part that threw me off was where the ECO highlighted a deposit of N1,100,000 on the 28th of October which I already stated as my monthly salary and came directly from my corporate account, yet the ECO wrote “the source of fund is unknown”. I’m very confused at this point cos the mail says I don’t have a right of appeal. Please advise on next step to take.

Tutu82: Thank you. I intend to apply for my Visitor’s visa next week. I was told FIRS doesn’t issue TCC for sole proprietorship business and I can only obtain Personal income Tax clearance from IRS. The issue now is i over declared my income (started paying myself a salary that would easily pass with my income & budget calculation) , and now the calculated Tax would be a lot. I was told by someone from FIRS that a lumpsum of 150K would suffice (cos annual income is around 12m), but I am skeptical because it’s still very far from the calculated Tax and I have seen people who have been denied here due to descrepancies in their Tax clearance certificate. What do you advise I do? Please help. |

Greetings everyone, Please I would like to know if it’s compulsory to submit a Tax Clearance Certificate when applying for a visitor’s Visa as a Self employed/Business owner. I have invoices/receipts to back up every transaction on my Corporate and personal accounts, so I would like to confirm the importance of the Tax certificate as I have just 2weeks to apply for my visa. |

OladipupoIyowun: No, I do not have any job asides this. I understand that if I had registered my business earlier and paying myself salary monthly, I wouldn’t have to worry about anything. But I didn’t find this thread early enough, so I’m trying to work with what I have. |

Good day all, big thanks to everyone who has contributed and gotten this thread to where it is now. I intend applying for UK visit Visa in October. I am currently self employed and my business has a monthly turnover/sales revenue of up to N50m. So far, I believe the major issue I’ll face applying for visa is convincing them that the money going in and out of my account is genuine and it’ll be readily available for my trip. I intend to apply for my Visa first week of October, and travel in November. I intend to apply for my Visa first week of October, and travel in November. I only just registered my business last month, and just created a corporate/business account today. So here’s is my idea; I move all my business transactions to my newly created corporate account. By October when I intend to apply, I’ll have 2months SOA on my business account , and 6months on my personal account (first 4months made up of business transactions and last 2months strictly just salary since I just created a corporate account) . I can try explain the inflow on my personal account as business , back it up with receipts/invoices and further show the transaction pattern/similarities etween my personal account and 2months old corporate account as a transition from the business being a side hustle to a fully registered business which I can back up with business registration documents, receipts and invoices. On the other hand to prove ties, I can provide documents showing; House rent receipt and agreement Landed property ownership Business space rent receipt Does this work? Please help and shed more light. |

Programming / Need A Technical Partner (web & App Developer) by Topnotch10: 10:10am On Aug 27, 2017 |
Good day, I am Benjamin, a tech entrepreneur. I am currently in need of a technical partner for my start-up idea in education. So far, I've been able to design the interface of the app, conduct market survey across over 4000 customers(students) to validate my idea and determine how feasible it is. I have all the knowledge ,experience and resources to give the start-up great traction. However ,I do not have the expertise to develop this solution, and it would take quite a while learning to build a complex system of such. Therefore, I need a technical co-founder, who can work with me to develop the web and app solution for an exchange in equity . The target market for this solution are the students in higher institution (University, polytechnics, college of technology ) . The core revenue stream of this product would come from in-app purchases and subscription to our service. Based on this model, we project a revenue of $22000 in our first year of operation.. If you are interested in working on this project to develop the software for an exchange in equity, kindly drop your email here. Thank you. 1 Like |
