Please I need some guidance and thoughts on the scenario below:
I got a full time mba admission in the USA with a 90k dollars scholarship. However my total cost of attendance is 146k dollars. So the deficit of the 56k would be covered via a loan though. I am expected to pay a non-refundable fee of 1000 dollars to secure my seat. Is it advisable to pay this amount or not? And please state your reasons. Also I cannot waive the fee and I need to pay this fee to get my I-20 to get the visa processing going.

What school is this? because I want to believe it’s a top business school. Asking for enrollment deposit before issuing I-20 to show commitment and secure your place in the incoming class is a very common practice amongst top business schools because of how competitive it is , and can even be as high as $2K/$3K in some schools. The enrollment deposit is typically also added to your tuition contribution, so you can think of it as paying part of your tuition.

Therefore, to proceed with your enrollment process, you’ll have to pay the deposit before the deadline, cos if you don’t , then you won’t be issued the i-20 and will have to forfeit the admission by the deadline. I don’t think $1K should be a problem if you have strong reasons to pursue an MBA in a top business school in the first place. MBA’s have one of the highest ROI in the US, especially from a top business school, and the school has even very generous to you taking a whooping $90K off.

To answer your question whether to proceed or not, it’s up to you to decide whether to proceed or go for an MBA in a less prominent school with a low or non-deposit requirement (because top schools will definitely as you for enrollment deposit) .

Hey 🤠

* A2A *

1. Your chances can be 100% if you are genuine with your academic sojourn and if you know how to align your application process reasonably .

2. In the USA , Community colleges are often a good place for older students to start, as they allow the student to brush up on skills they may have forgotten or that they were not focused enough in high school to learn.

2. They also tend to provide a less stressful and pressured environment, and are more likely to be supportive of a person returning to academic life after a long absence. Most are also much less expensive than USA four-year colleges and universities.

3. Ipso facto, if you are working in an organisation and needed a short advanced management or work-place improvement skills, you can opt for associate degree (AA, AS, AAS) . If you are from age 30 to 50 with your own personal business or you just needed to bag a degree as a life time achievement, you can opt for an associate degree.

** AA = Associate of Arts.
** AS = Associate of Science.
** AAS = Associate of Applied Science.

4. If you have a career plan and reason to return to your country after graduation as well as the finances to pay your expenses without expecting someone else to pay, or getting a job in the USA then , why not ? Your visa would be approved . I have done this for many F1 applicants in the past. My first was Cabrillo College in Aptos, California.

*** Many Universities in the USA also offers Associate degrees.

Best Wishes 🙏

Hello, I'm curious if you already used your DropBox privilege I want to assume that you got a two-year visa for your Spring, so why do you have to look for an interview date again?

Good Morning my beautiful people of God!!
Please, I'm in a fix and need guidance from our experienced elder brothers and sisters here biko...I have a first degree in Industrial Physics second class upper and have been working for the past 14 years in the Logistics sector. Where I have since risen to the post of a shipping manager.

My fix is this, I wish to further my study in the USA and I don't know if I should pursue a PhD or msc in my subject area or MBA in my area of work experience... Honestly do not know which would fly with the VO, as I have no experience regarding this.

Please, help a bro in need😩

Hey 🤠

1. Go with Msc in Maritime Transportation Management and Logistics. Economics & Geography. Marketing & Supply Chain Management, etc. If there is MBA (STEM) in your area of specialisation you can also opt for it .

2. Don't go for PhD except if your initial academic standings can give you average fundings. Fundings is very very important for PhD students .

2. In all, don't forget to align everything to your present working place (except for Phd) where you have been for the past 14 years .

Best Wishes 🙏
