Although, he did not disclose the prospective cabinet appointee. Mr. Barrow was speaking in an interview with TFM television on Sunday. Reports have it that Gambia gender activist Dr. Isatou Touray, of the Transition Team might be the likely VP to be appointed by President Barrow. Mr. Barrow said he will soon announce his cabinet. He also said he will return to Banjul soon. He did not give any date and time of his home return. Mr. Barrow also talked about organizing a swearing in ceremony on February, 18th, which coincides with Gambia’s independence day. He said he couldn’t be sworn in the Gambia, largely due to former dictator Jammeh’s defiance attitude to facilitate a safe and smooth transfer of power. He said African Heads of State would be invited to witness his second swearing in ceremony in Banjul. President Barrow noted that Mr. Jammeh had to relinquish power—thanks to the intervention of ECOWAS. He said Jammeh has no choice but to step down. He added that president Conde and the Mauritanian leader came on board the negotiations after Jammeh personally contacted them for help. Regarding the agreement reached between Jammeh and his government not to seize Jammeh’s assets, bar him from the country, or harass Jammeh’s supporters, Barrow said there was no signed agreement reached. He noted that the document in question was a resolution pending approval from both parties. He confirmed the existence of such a resolution reached. He pointed out that no signature has been appended on the document yet. Mr. Barrow also told RFM he has made it clear to Jammeh and ECOWAS that Jammeh’s security cannot be guaranteed if he lives in the country. Hence, they demanded that Jammeh should leave town. Jammeh, he said, wanted to continue to live in the Gambia, as a private citizen, but his government maintained that it couldn’t guarantee his security. That Jammeh could pose as a destabilizing agent while residing in the country. Mr. Barrow thanked President Macky Sall and ECOWAS for facilitating Jammeh’s departure from the country. He said his government will ensure that there is smooth bilateral ties between the Gambia and Senegal. http://www.freedomnewspaper.com/gambia-breaking-news-president-adama-barrow-says-he-is-going-to-appoint-a-female-vice-president/ The U.S based Gambian online Newspaper

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGaL7lu4qlQ Nigeria born Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua set to clash with wladmir klitschko April 29, 2017 at wembley stadium There is a dreadful inconvenient truth attached to the far reaches of the glorious halo currently engulfing the fight at Wembley Stadium between Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko next April and it is called Tyson Fury. The planned fight could generate nearly fifty million pounds and could also change the very landscape of boxing for a long, long time. So far the pair of prize fighters will fight for Joshua’s IBF heavyweight belt, the vacant WBA version and Klitschko’s personal favourite, the IBO version, which is also vacant, when an expected crowd of 80,000 spend in excess of 12 million quid at the creaking turnstiles. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/boxing/article-4034224/Tyson-Fury-fired-Wladimir-Klitschko-Anthony-Joshua-clash-April-29.html

Getting nominated for the prestigious music award in the world, Grammys is a huge deal. Again is on the music world map as two of its music exports, StarBoy Music Worldwide act, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun well known as Wizkid, and fast rising international act, Faridah Demola Seriki, who is well known by her stage moniker, Kah-Lo, has been nominated for 2017 Grammy Awards. While Wizkid got nominated for his role in Drake’s hit single One Dance, Kah-Lo, daughter of former Minister of Defence, Demola Seriki, was nominated for her feature on British DJ, Riton’s track, Rinse and Repeat, which has been nominated for the ‘Best Dance Recording of the Year’. The track, which fetched the Caro singer his nomination featuring Kyla, is off Drake’s award-winning album Views, which has been adjudged as one of the best albums released in 2016. The album made the highly coveted ‘Album of the Year’ category, competing against other award-winning artistes like Adele, Beyonce, and Justin Bieber. Prior to this time, the award was only given to the main artiste but this year’s edition of the Grammy awards would see contributing acts and producers going home with awards as well. The 59th edition of the Grammy’s has 84 categories, and Wizkid and Kah-Lo are the only Nigerians on the list. It need be noted that Wizkid has had a tremendous outing this year with top-notch awards credited to him, including MTV Europe Music Awards (Best African Act), 2016 MAMA awards (Best African Act), 2016 MOBO Awards, AFRIMA awards, The Headies (Nomination), and his Bill Board appearance as the first Nigerian to emerge on that list. His international prominence started when his hit single, Ojuelegba had American rapper Drake and English rapper with Nigerian descent, Skepta, on the remix. Kah-Lo describes herself as a ‘monotone rap princess’; her style is different and refreshing. The talented artiste posted on Instagram, “Oluwa did it! @ritontime has all the swag sauce!” Rinse and Repeat has been streamed five million times on Spotify and played 1.5 million times on YouTube in less than a month after its release. Recalled that the first Nigerian to be nominated for the Grammy award was King Sunny Ade, in 1983 for his album, Synchro System. He was re-nominated in 1998 for his collection of Yoruba songs Odu, becoming the first African to be nominated twice. At the 57th edition of the awards, which held at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles, California, Nigerian-born Kelvin Olusola and his team, Pentatonix, won in the ‘Best Arrangement, Instrumental/Acappella’ category. By the feat, Olusola joined the growing list of Nigerians who have won the award after Helen Folashade Adu (better known as Sade Adu), Henry Adeola Samuel (popularly called Seal) and Sikiru Ade In 1986, at the 28th Grammy awards, Sade Adu winning with her band, as ‘Best New Artiste’, became the first Nigerian to win in the prestigious awards. Ten years later, another Nigerian, Seal, won the ‘Record of the Year’ and ‘Song of the Year’ awards for his song Kiss from a Rose, a song, which was remixed as a soundtrack to Batman Forever. Sikiru Adepoju won in 1991 and 2009 as a part of Mickey Hart’s group, Planet Drum, whose albums won the award for ‘Best Contemporary World Music Album’ for the two years. Many other Nigerians have been nominated but lost out to other nominees. Afrobeat maestro, Femi Kuti, has been nominated for a Grammy award four times in 2003, 2010, 2012 and 2013, but did not win any. Others who have been nominated include Tyler Okonma, Tiwa Savage, and Chimamanda Adiche. http://guardian.ng/saturday-magazine/brighter-chances-for-nigeria-at-2017-grammys-as-wizkid-kah-lo-make-nomination-list/

RIP Fidel Castro, Leader of the Cuban Revolution , and leader of Cuba for almost 50 years, pictured here with Late Ooni Sijuade, spiritual leader of Yorubas worldwide.. This is truly historical picture . the late ooni of ife oba sijuwade and fidel castro together. I am not sure if many nigerians know about this visit. The Ooni of ife visited cuba in 1987. it reported was regarded in cuba as of the same importance as to the day pope showed up in a relatively remote christian community in some far away corner of the world. This is due to the deep rooted connections of santeria as a religion in cuba and the slaves from west africa who brought their religion with them to cuba and has since survived to this very present day. It was a visit which not only acknowledged the existence but further strengthened their connections to their beloved homeland, ILE IFE and the YORUBA KINGDOM pic credit : prince Adegbite Sijuwade

can this ever happen in nigeria.. dont we have something like this incase of a preotest why our police keep using live weapon on the citizens Students in the South African city of Cape Town have clashed with police during protest demanding free education across the country. Police fired stun grenades, water canons and tear gas as they tried on Wednesday to disperse the large crowd of student protesters. According to AP news agnecy, students burned a mock wooden coffin for the education minister to show dissatisfaction with the government's response to their demands. Al Jazeera's Haru Mutasa, reporting from Cape Town city centre, said at least one student was injured during the confrontation. "The students kept coming back. They are refusing to leave. They kept hiding between the shops," she said. "They are adamant and they say they want free education even if the government keeps saying it cannot afford to pay." Protesters said they want free university education to help close South Africa's inequality gap. Police called on the protesters to leave immediately and return to school "because they are disrupting business", our correspondent said. "These are scenes that the government does not want to see in the city of Cape Town. It's a tourist destination. It's the last thing they want to see. "But students are saying, 'our parents cannot afford the tuition. So how can you expect us to continue [university]?'" In a speech on Wednesday, Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan promised additional funding for higher education in his speech, while calling for the "violence to stop". He promised to cap the tuition fees for 2017. Funding South Africa's students Violent protests began last year putting the government under pressure to fund free tertiary education. Many black students say they come from poor families, and fee increases will rob them of the opportunity to continue studying. South Africa’s economy is struggling. Although it has regained the title of Africa's largest economy from Nigeria, it could be on the brink of recession. It barely escaped a rating agencies downgrade to junk status recently. It is rich in mineral resources, but mining production fell 0.2 percent year-on-year in August and farmers are suffering from the worst drought in more than a century. The International Monetary Fund said corruption in South Africa is holding the economy back.
