Politics / NSCF Joins Call For Arrest Of Leaders Of Kyari Must Go Now Group by ToriTori247: 2:28pm On Oct 08, 2023
The Northern Stakeholders Consultative Forum (NSCF) has joined the chorus of voices demanding the arrest of leaders of the "Kyari Must Go Now" group, who have made threats to shut down Nigeria's economic activities by occupying critical national assets and exposing nude women on the streets.

NSCF Spokesman Comrade Danjuma Paul expressed concern over these threats and called for quick action against those responsible, stating that their motives must be probed to prevent further threats to national security or economic progress.

Referring to the petition submitted against Kyari by the group, Paul stated that it was commissioned by self-appointed enemies of the NNPCL GCEO.

He stated that their motives must be interrogated in order to ensure that they do not pose any further threats to national security or economic progress.

Paul also referred to the petition that had been submitted against Kyari by the said Kyari Must Go Now group and said that it was commissioned by self-appointed enemies of the NNPCL GCEO.

"These paid individuals recommended among other things, a Forensic Audit of the Fuel Subsidy regime in the last 8 years.

"To fake a semblance of legitimacy, this obscure coalition claimed to be key supporters of President Bola Tinubu after which they threatened to mobilize and organize a one million youth march if Kyari was not relieved of his position as the GMD of NNPC," Paul said.

He further stated that these individuals were posing an imminent national security threat and apparent saboteurs of the Tinubu administration.

"Some claiming even being lawyers yet vowed to shut down critical national economic assets such as East-West Road, Benin-Ore Road, Abuja-Lokoja Road, Asaba-Onitsha Road while mobilizing another 500 youths to shut down NNPC Towers in Abuja.

"Such disruption can lead directly or indirectly towards fuel shortages resulting into violence putting nation's stability at risk jeopardizing foreign investments thereby undermining regional integration thus hampering overall economic growth & progress," he said.

Paul underlined how such actions could cause significant harm both socially and economically: "The disruption caused by transportation routes being blocked off along with oil industry will undermine our country's progress towards social unity through regional integration whilst also affecting foreign investment."

Finally he called upon law enforcement officials to take immediate action against those identified signatories involved with this senseless petition so as to ensure uninterrupted flow continues without hindrance, protecting the nation’s interest and ultimately safeguarding safety & well-being all Nigerians.

"The numerous NNPC’s achievements under Mele Kyari point out commitment towards developing energy sector improving economy -with continued growth investment corporation undoubtedly achieve even greater milestones future", the group said.
Business / Group Demands Sack Of Mele Kyari, Probe Of Allegations Of Corruption In NNPCL by ToriTori247: 12:56am On Oct 08, 2023
The Mega National Movement For Good Governance (MNMGG) has demanded the immediate sack of the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL)

The group, which consists of a coalition of 19 youth groups, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and civil society organisations (CSOs), equally demanded the probe of allegations of monumental corruption entrenched in NNPCL under his leadership.

Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, the Spokesperson of the Spokesperson Mega National Movement, Ibrahim Tijani, said the group is deeply
concerned about the instability of the prices of petroleum products, resulting from the
somersault in policies.

Listing the sins of the NNPCL’s GCEO, the group said there was lack of due process in the appointment of Engr Mele Kyari, accusing him of failure to remit revenues to the Federation Account, and inconsistency.

The movement said, they are also saddened by the sudden scarcity of fuel in particularly the Federal Capital and other major cities and towns that was fueled by the intention of the Independent Petroleum Marketers of Nigeria (IPMAN) to hike fuel prices within the week.

“We are worried also by the mounting allegations of fraud, embezzlement, and corruption within the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) since the appointment of Engr Mele Kyari as Group Chief Executive Officer.

“As a coalition of patriotic groups, we have identified allegations of significant
irregularities within the NNPCL, including fuel subsidy scams, under-remittance of oil
sales revenue, corruption, shady pipeline surveillance contracts, and oil theft.

“These issues have had a collective detrimental effect on the majority of Nigerians, while benefiting only a few greedy individuals, embezzlement, misappropriation of funds, and fraudulent accounting practices. These actions not only undermine the company's financial stability but also have far-reaching consequences for stakeholders and the overall economy.

“Among the numerous cases of financial impropriety against Kyari is the deduction of N2.1 trillion from the monthly revenue of NNPC, which was not remitted to the Federation Account.

“Additionally, Kyari is believed to be responsible for the supply of adulterated or bad fuel that entered the country in 2022, causing damage to many vehicle engines and generators.

“These allegations of massive corruption and fraudulent diversion of billions of dollars to personal and cronies' accounts must be thoroughly investigated, and Kyari should be prosecuted if found guilty”, the coalition lamented.

On lack of due process and transparency in Kyari’s appointment, the movement said, “We would like to highlight that the appointment of Engr. Mele Kyari as GCEO of
NNPCL did not follow due process as enshrined in the provisions of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA).

“Considering that NNPCL recently transitioned to a private company in line with the Petroleum Industry Act (PIAAct, 2021), it is no longer allowed to have recourse to state funds.

“Its shares and assets, including oil blocks and refineries, are now held by the Ministries of Petroleum and Finance.

“However, NNPCL has failed to operate as a Joint Production Venture (JPV) with Western Oil Majors (WOM), as required by law.

“Furthermore, the NNPCL has not been transparent in publishing it's crude contracts and statements of accounts under Engr. Mele Kyari's leadership”, the group alleged.

Picking holes in NNPCL’s remittances to the Federation Account, the group recalled that “In 2022, Kyari and the NNPC management failed to remit any funds to the Federation Account for seven consecutive months.

“Despite Nigeria recording N16 trillion in oil sales during that year, the NNPC did not make any remittances. This lack offinancial responsibility is unacceptable and raises serious questions about the management of the company's revenues.

“Kyari must explain how these funds were spent and provide transparency (sic) regarding the companies that received
subsidy payments”, the Coalition demanded.

Insisting on the restoration of transparency and accountability in NNPCL, the group stated that “As concerned and patriotic citizens, we believe that the government should be interested in knowing the true nature of NNPCL's oil production contracts and remittances to the Federation Account, as well as the transparency of pipeline surveillance contracts awarded by the NNPCL in line with global best practices.

“We had expected the President Tinubu administration to insist on the implementation of the PIA or the PIB Act, not only to sack and probe Engr. Mele Kyari but also other key figures in the NNPCL, such as the Executive Vice President (Upstream), Adokiye Tombomieye, Managing Director Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), Ali Muhammad Zahra, and the Director National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NPIMS), Bala Wunti.

“This comprehensive action is necessary to clcan up the corruption and decay within the NNPCL”, the group observed.

Frowning at inconsistencies in Governnent actions, the movement noted that “It is unfortunate that Engr. Mele Kyari, who allegedly shortchanged every Nigerian through under-remittance to the Federation has been allowed to remain in charge of the NNPCL, while heads of other important denartments and EFCC, have been sacked, arrested, and probed. This raises the question of why the case of the NNPCL led by Engr. Mele Kyari is being treated differently.

“If the government is genuinely committed to fighting financial malfeasance, oil theft, dubious pipeline surveillance contracts, fuel subsidy scams, under-remittance to the Federation Account, abnormalities, and lack of transparency in the NNPCL, then Engr. Mele Kyari should not be allowed to continue in his position.

Demanding for the removal of Kyari, the Coalition said that “It is evident to most Nigerians that there has been no significant increase in oil production and remittance to the Federation Account since Engr. Mele Kyari assumed the position of GCEO of the NNPCL.

“Therefore, we urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take action and fire and probe Engr. Mele Kyari.

“This is crucial for the transparency, accountability, and development of the Nigerian petroleum industry.

“Given the numerous allegations of financial improprieties and the lack of accountability within
the NNPC under Kyari's leadership, it is imperative that he be removed from his position.

“The Federal Government must take immediate action to address these issues and ensure that those responsible for corruption and embezzlement are held accountable.

The Nigerian people deserve transparency, accountability, and a leadership that prioritizes the country's economic stability and the well-being of its citizens.

“It is crucial to address these allegations, conduct a thorough investigation, and prosecute those responsible for corruption and fraudulent practices.

“Restoring transparency, accountability, and financial stability within the NNPC is essential for the well-being of the Nigerian economy and
its citizens”, the group said.

Politics / Nigerian Youths Renew Call For Review Of Protracted Sanctions On Zimbabwe by ToriTori247: 2:54pm On Oct 04, 2023
Youths in Nigeria under the aegis of the Not Too Young To Perform (NTYTP), a leadership development advocacy group, have joined calls for the immediate review of over 20-year-old sanctions against the Republic of Zimbabwe.

In a statement signed by the Executive Coordinator/National President of the group, Comrade James Ezema, the NTYTP noted that young people in Zimbabwe who were not party to whatever led to the sanctions are the ones bearing the heavy burden of the bilateral restrictions against the country.

The Nigerian youth group then called on the heads of government in Nigeria and other African countries to pressure the United Nations, United States of America, and other International Diplomatic Systems and influential countries to bring to an end the long-overdue sanctions on Zimbabwe.

“We therefore join the All-Africa Students Union (AASU) and other African youths to empathize with our peers in Zimbabwe, who are daily bearing the burdens of the decades of military, economic, and other sanctions against their father land.

“Anything that negatively impact on one youth anywhere in Africa, is negatively impacting youths everywhere in the continent and any other part of the world.

“The psychological impact of sanctions on today's generation of Zimbabweans, as a result of slowed progress and inhibited economic recovery, can only be imagined.

“Aggreed that sanctions programs by some international systems target human rights abusers and those who undermine democratic processes or facilitate corruption, prolonged military sanctions could, on the other hand, further expose the most vulnerable people in Zimbabwe to the adverse effects of insecurity.

“While we call on the Zimbabwean government to continue to strive to take steps towards addressing the root causes of Zimbabwe’s ills, including corrupt elite and their abuse of the country’s institutions for their personal gains, we commend the President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa administration for ongoing reforms.

His administration’s 4-Key Reform Pillars for Zimbabwe’s Implementation Program, including Governance Reforms, Land Tenure Reforms, Compensation of former Farm Owners, and the Resolution of
Bilateral Investment Protection Agreements are sufficient evidence that President Mnangagwa is fully committed to ensuring that all factors that are undermining Zimbabwe’s democratic processes and institutions are speedily removed.

“And as sanctions are not intended to be permanent but to incentivize behavioural changes, we believe that the over two decades of sanctions have achieved that purpose in Zimbabwe and needs immediate review”, the NTYTP stated.
Crime / Violence: Group Wants Police To Bring Kogi SDP Governorship Candidate To Justice by ToriTori247: 1:41am On Oct 03, 2023
The Arewa Defenders Forum (ADF) has said that it taken stock of events unfolding in Kogi State in the buildup to the forthcoming November, 2023 governorship in the state, urging the police to arrest the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Murtala Yakubu Ajaka and other alleged “authors of mindless violence and bring them to justice to serve justice to the victims and their families”.

The ADF noted especially, what it described as “the unrelenting disturbances created by certain interest groups in the led by the main challenger to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Muritala Yakubu, the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the form of incitement to violence by making unguarded and inflammatory rhetoric.”

In a statement signed by its chairman, Abdulfatah Salmonu , the group said that the “embers of the recent violence that resulted in the killing of several APC supporters and other innocent people as confirmed by the police were ignited and incessantly fanned by the inciting and provocative utterances of Yakubu and other authors of mindless violence who see power as an end in itself.”

According to the statement, the “unprovoked attacks and killings of opposition supporters have resulted from the hate campaigns and propaganda being conducted by those identified as perpetrators of violence led by Yakubu, who are relentlessly pursuing this agenda of destruction and collective mayhem.

“We are worried also that weeks after the police have accused Yakubu of being involved in the killing of the supporters and undermining security efforts, yet he remains free.

“This lack of action sends a message that those in power are above the law and undermines public trust in the justice system.

“We demand swift action from the police to arrest Yakubu and other authors of mindless violence and bring them to justice to serve justice to the victims and their families.

“This is necessary because a man whose conducts the police said, continue to jeopardize security efforts in the state, by moving around with a retinue of political thugs armed to the teeth cannot be allowed to move about freely”, the Arewa Defenders Forum stated.
Crime / Addressing Insecurity In Northern Nigeria: The Defence Ministry, CNG Approach by ToriTori247: 1:30am On Oct 03, 2023
By Nura Ibrahim Birnin Magaji

The recent approach by the Defence Ministry and the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) to address insecurity in northern Nigeria is a step in the right direction.

This approach will lead to improved, sincere and determined collaboration among the northern states Governors, the federal government, and other critical stakeholders in the region to tackle the root causes of insecurity.

It is evident that the insecurity in northern Nigeria has led to the loss of lives and property as the activities of armed bandits and other criminal elements have made lives unbearable for people within the region.

Banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism have become common occurrences, and the region is in dire need of effective solutions.

There now seems to be a ray of hope with the collaboration between the Defence Ministry and the CNG which has already begun to yield positive results, aiming to permanently resolve the rising insecurity in Zamfara state and ultimately the entire northern region.

The collaboration between the government and CNG to safeguard the lives and properties of citizens, especially in the northern part of the country, is focused on bringing lasting peace to the region through rapid military response, dialogue, understanding, and mutual respect.

Though it could be a step in the right direction towards ending insecurity in Nigeria, it is important however, to note that this problem cannot be solved by this collaboration alone.

First, the northern states Governors must necessarily collaborate with the Federal Government and other critical stakeholders in the region to address the root causes of insecurity and come up with effective solutions that will benefit everyone.

It is theseccollaborative efforts between the government, security agencies, civil society organizations, and communities affected by insecurity that will ensure that everyone is involved in finding lasting solutions to this problem.

Addressing the root causes of insecurity is also crucial. Poverty, unemployment, and lack of access to education are some of the factors that contribute to insecurity in Nigeria.

It is therefore important that these issues are addressed holistically to prevent future occurrences.

Furthermore, dialogue and mutual respect among all parties involved are essential for sustainable peace. It is important that everyone's views and concerns are heard and taken into consideration during discussions aimed at resolving conflicts.

With this realization, a delegation from the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) was mobilized to the Zamfara State capital, Gusau, to assess the situation regarding the recent attacks on the Federal University, Gusau that resulted in the abduction of yet to be specified number of female students by heartless bandits.
While in Gusau, the CNG delegation interacted with various stakeholders, including officials from the state government, the affected families, community leaders, security agencies, and representatives from the academic community.

During one of those interactions, the Gusau University authorities expressed gratitude to the Military for its commendable efforts and gallantry in response to the threats to the university community.

They emphasized the importance of strengthening security measures within the university premises to ensure the safety of students, staff, and visitors.

However, they also stressed the need to strengthen security measures within the university premises to ensure the safety of students, staff, and visitors.

They acknowledged the presence of a military formation at Kwatarkwashi, approximately five kilometers from the campus, which is understaffed with very few troops deployed. Whenever they receive another distress call at Magami, Wanzamai, or Kuceri, also within their area of coverage, the University environment becomes porous and vulnerable, leaving it open to potential danger.

As a solution, they proposed establishing a security outpost to replace the current mobile formation and be permanently dedicated to securing the campus and Sabon Gida community where most students reside.

The CNG team observed that the lack of fortification fencing and security ditches around the university has caused concerns among many individuals, highlighting the need for urgent measures.

Similarly, the State Government also recognized the troops' efforts in combating the attackers, despite the insufficient number of personnel available. The government suggested deploying additional contingents to reinforce the current ones and recommended establishing a commission to coordinate efforts, allocate resources, and implement development programs in Zamfara State and the entire North-West region, similar to the Niger Delta and North East Development Commissions.

While presenting their findings and recommendations regarding the security situation in Zamfara and the North-West to the Minister of State Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawale, the CNG emphasized the need for the government and security forces to combat insurgency in Zamfara with determination and adherence to legal obligations.

The group also stressed that achieving full cessation of hostilities, disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration in the entire region is imperative for declaring victory.

The Minister was moved by the report and promptly instructed for a military outpost to be established near the university campus as request by the University authorities and supported by the CNG report, with the sole responsibility of securing the campus.

After receiving the report and recommendations from the CNG, Matawalle pledged to work with the federal Ministry of Education to begin and complete the fencing fortification around the university premises.

He also stated that the Defence Ministry will provide ditches around the campus. Matawalle recognized Nigeria's courageous troops and praised the new sense of collaboration between frontline states and the strong determination of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the battle against banditry and kidnapping in Zamfara and other North-West states.

Additionally, he applauded the CNG for its proactive approach and willingness to collaborate with the Federal Government in addressing security concerns in the North-West region, specifically in Zamfara State.

It is no secret that the security situation in Zamfara state has negatively impacted agriculture, transportation, and other economic activities in the state, leading to a huge loss of revenue. Therefore, this initiative will not only bring about relief to the residents of Zamfara state but also serve as an economic boost.

It is imperative that the Zamfara state government, along with all stakeholders, key into this initiative as it offers a glimmer of hope for a region that has been constantly bleeding. The coalition's efforts, in collaboration with the defense minister, have shown that a solution to the insecurity problem plaguing the north exists.

The initiative also has the potential to create a conducive environment for economic growth and development within the region. All stakeholders must give their support for the success of this initiative, and the Zamfara state government must lead the charge.

The role of the entire northern states Governors in this initiative cannot be overemphasized. They need to work closely with the federal government and other stakeholders to identify the root causes of insecurity in their respective states and come up with effective solutions to be implemented and coordinated collectively address them.

One of the critical stakeholders in this initiative is the local communities. They are the ones directly affected by insecurity, and their input is essential in developing effective solutions. The traditional rulers, religious leaders, and civil society organizations in the region also have a vital role to play in the initiative.

The federal government, on its part, needs to provide the necessary support to ensure that the initiative is successful. This support includes funding, logistics, and security personnel.

It is unfortunate that while the Ministery of Defence and the CNG were working diligently towards a common goal, the state Governor of Zamfara State Dauda Lawal was away in New York. This absence may have hindered the progress and coordination of the efforts being made.

The actions of the Governor the day of the attack on the Gusau University campus are inexcusable. Abandoning the state and staying incommunicado for several days is not only irresponsible but also sends the wrong message to the people of the state.

It is insensitive for him not to stand with his people during times of crisis and work towards finding solutions to the challenges facing his state.
Now that the Governor has returned, people are understandably waiting to see what he will do next. It is essential that he comes off the high horse and reach out to the Federal Government to for effective coordination of efforts to address the security concerns in the state and work towards ensuring that such attacks do not happen again.

He should keep in mind that leadership comes with great responsibility, and it is imperative that he understands the gravity of his actions and how they impact the people he leads. In times of crisis, leaders must stand strong and provide reassurance to their people that they are working towards a resolution.

Foreign Affairs / African Students Want Sanctions Against Zimbabwe Lifted, Make Strong Case by ToriTori247: 8:42am On Sep 30, 2023
African Students under the aegis of the All-Africa Students Union (AASU) have called for an end to decades of sanctions against Zimbabwe, releasing their hashtag ahead of their “AntiSanctions Day against Zimbabwe” on October 25, 2023 in Harare.

While calling for a review of protracted economic blockage against the country, students at a world press conference in Abuja, Nigeria, released the hashtag #LiftZimbabweSanctionsNow for their advocacy.

The President of AASU, Osisiogu Osikenyi Enyinnaya, who addressed the media on Friday at the AASU international headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria, highlighted the imperatives of their call for the lifting of the sanctions, calling attention to the dividends of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s four-key reform pillars.

The students said that their call has become imperative given that the protracted sanctions have adversely impacted “Our Generation of Zimbabweans”, the country’s thriving economy and indeed, the entire Southern Africa nation in the past 20 years.

The unlifted sanctions, AASU noted, “are slowing down progress, inhibiting Economic
recovery and punishing the most vulnerable people in Zimbabwe.”

Reiterating their commitment, the All-Africa Students’ Union expressed unreserved “solidarity with Zimbabwe and call for the lifting of the two-decade sanctions and other punitive measures imposed against Zimbabwe; as we prepare to observe AntiSanctions Day against Zimbabwe on the 25th October 2023 in Harare.”

They noted that “An attempt to perpetuate the already devastating sanction may be tantamount to “an attempt to kill a snake in a precious earthen pot; and
inadvertently breaking the precious pot to pieces”.

“Having paid keen attention to the 4-Key Reform Pillars for Zimbabwe’s Implementation Program which includes Governance Reforms, Land Tenure Reforms, Compensation of former Farm Owners and the Resolution of
Bilateral Investment Protection Agreements; we believe that the President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa led administration is sufficiently
committed to a sanction-free Zimbabwe.

“Evidences abound in history and contemporary case studies that have proven that Imposed sanctions often fail in achieving their intended goals;
often inadvertently proving to be counterproductive in advancing human rights, democracy, and press freedom; and having adverse Socio-economic and Political Effects of Sanctions on the Vulnerable Segments such as
Women, Children, and Minorities of Target Populations as may the case in the Republic of Zimbabwe.

“More so, these are no ordinary times in Africa especially as Zimbabwe’s neighbor – Mozambique battles cases of terrorist attacks and as Southern African countries take crucial and collective steps against the phenomena of terrorism and violent extremism via critical role of a functioning criminal justice system in preventing and countering terrorism and violent extremism; we must reconsider our stance on sanctions on Zimbabwe so as not to predispose the country as soft-spots for terrorist attacks cognizant that hqqqer military is unable legitimately acquire defense equipment.

“We cannot continue risking predisposing Zimbabwe considering her strategic positioning in the SADC economy and geography with
Mozambique to the East, Zambia to the North, Botswana and Namibia to the west, and South Africa to the South.

“Zimbabwe is fast emerging a self-sufficient Agricultural Powerhouse having
registered largest Wheat Harvest in 2022 with 375,000 tons, making the austral African country a self-sufficient agricultural powerhouse - A unique performance in Africa. Lifting the sanctions will not only boost Zimbabwe’s
capacity at Food Security but the entire SADC, Africa and the world”, the African students said.

Making their specific call for the lifting of the sanctions, the students said, “We therefore wish to appeal to The United States, the European Union (EU) and other International Systems to review these protracted sanctions
cognizant of quagmire Zimbabwe's economy has faced over the past years
with periods of hyperinflation rendering the local currency worthless; occasioning high levels of inflation as well as severe shortages of fuel, power and water.

“May I commend Africa and other Global Leaders such as South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa who have made frantic efforts in pursuit the US to lift sanctions against the Republic of Zimbabwe.

“This also goes to Officials of the United Nations, other International Diplomatic Systems and influential
Individuals who have lent their voices and actions to the #LiftZimbabweSanctionsNow Advocacy.

“Our Union shall in concert with Students and Youth Leadership structures in Zimbabwe and across Africa announce activities in observance of AntiSanctions Day against Zimbabwe October 2023”, AASU stated.

Politics / Zamfra: When A Governor Abdicates His Responsibilities by ToriTori247: 9:29pm On Sep 27, 2023
By Suleiman Abba

Crass political opportunism refers to the practice of politicians exploiting situations solely for personal gain or benefit, without genuine concern for the well-being of the people they are supposed to represent. It can manifest in various ways, such as making empty promises during election campaigns or capitalizing on crises to gain political advantage.

This behaviour undermines the democratic principles of transparency, honesty, and genuine public service. Instead of focusing on addressing the needs of the people, crass political opportunists prioritize advancing personal ambitions or agendas, eroding public trust in politicians and creating cynicism among voters.

An accurate personification of crass political opportunism is when the Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal chose to abdicate his primary responsibilities and absconded on the very day the campus of the Federal University Gusau was brutally attacked and dozens of female students abducted.

This action and other unexplained aspects of the Governor's arrogance in going ahead with his US trip despite and in spite of the circumstances of fear in which innocent students entrusted in his care found themselves.
The first aspect is that there is incontrovertible evidence that the the Governor was in Abuja all the time the attack was taking place but left for New York four hours later. Sufficient proof exists that the attackers left the campus around 4am and Lawal flew out at 8am exactly four afterwards.

Another suspicious development is that for the last six days since the incident and Lawal's abdication, the federal government and federal security agencies have been making efforts to link up with the Zamfara government but they avoided their moves.
For instance the Defence Minister and other Defence Chiefs have variously called the Deputy Governor in the absence of his principal, but he declined all the calls.

Again, in the rare occasions when officials were able to link up with the Governor, from the US, he arrogantly told them to wait for his return.

These circumstances have been breeding serious suspicions and perhaps justifiable too, that there is some form of a hidden agenda and collaboration with the bandits which informs the Zamfara government's desperation to frustrate intervention efforts no matter how sincere, genuine and legitimate.

Natuarally, and by default, this brazen abdication by Governor Lawal created a sense of abandonment and amplified the vulnerabilities already faced by the people of the state.

His apparent failure to remain close to the people he leads, especially during such times of dire distress, by staying away for several days afterwards, made the situation incredibly disappointing and disheartening.

In such times, the natural and legitimate expectation is for the Governor to cancel whatever trip it was, return to base immediately to provide support and guidance as his absence can leave the distressed people of the state vulnerable and uncertain about the future.

It is expected that during those challenging times, Governor Lawal should have remained close to the people who, just a few months ago, trusted him to lead them through and out of their limitations around security and the economy.

He was expected to have demonstrated a commitment and dedication to the well-being of the people considering that the role of a leader is not only to make decisions and govern, but also to empathize with the struggles and concerns of his people.

In times of distress, it is crucial for a leader to be present, both physically and emotionally, to offer reassurance and comfort.

Effective leadership requires a deep understanding of the needs and realities of the people being led. It means recognizing the importance of being actively engaged, even when faced with difficulties.
It is his duty to prioritize the needs of the people who voted him to power and provide the necessary support, even if it means personal sacrifice.

Naturally, when he chose to stay away during auch times of distress, it not only erodeed the people's trust and faith in his leadership, but it also raised questions about his priorities and motives because by neglecting this responsibility, Lawal risks exacerbating the people's vulnerabilities and undermining the trust and confidence placed in them.

Responsible leadership, not the type Lawal provides in Zamfara State, is all about being present and supportive, especially in the face of adversity.

If Governor Lawal were a responsible and effective leader, he would have understood the significance of staying connected to the people he leads, particularly during times of crisis by being physically present and leading from the front to inspire and motivate them, boost morale and foster a sense of unity.

By every rule of decency a leader who remains present during moments of crisis, demonstrates the commitment to the well-being and success of his people. This demonstration of solidarity goes a long way in building trust and loyalty among those being leads. By standing alongside their people, which Lawal evidently failed to do, leaders show that they are not just making decisions from a distance but are actively involved in the challenges the people face.

Furthermore, leaders who lead from the front set an example for their followers. They exemplify the values and qualities they expect from their followers, showing that they are not just giving orders but are willing to take risks and face the difficulties themselves.

By being on the ground, Lawal could have had the opportunity to assess the situation first-hand, make informed decisions, and provide immediate feedback. This hands-on approach would have ensured that, as a leader, he has a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced by the people and can respond effectively.
There is no denying that it is highly irresponsible for Governor Lawal to distance himself from his people for this long especially in the aftermath of a tragic event such as the forceful abduction of students of a higher institution who are the natural and legitimate claimants to the task of shaping the society.

Lawal's primary responsibility is to ensure the welfare and safety of their constituents. When they choose to remain disconnected in times of crisis like this one, it can have severe repercussions on both the affected individuals and the overall moral fabric of society.
In times of tragedy, people look to their leaders for guidance, support, and reassurance. They need someone to step up and take charge, providing a sense of unity and direction. His physical presence, empathetic gestures, and words of consolation could have gone a long way in fostering hope, healing, and rebuilding efforts.

By staying away from the people he is meant to serve, Lawal not only abandoned his duties but also confirmed the long-held fears that he is detached and unconcerned, an action that is already breeding feelings of resentment, mistrust, and disillusionment among the Zamfara citizens, weakening the bond between his government and the society he represents.

Moreover, his absence during those times of crisis can have practical implications. He has may missed out on valuable firsthand information about the situation on the ground, making it difficult for him to make informed decisions and take necessary actions. This lack of involvement had slowed down emergency response efforts, exacerbated the suffering of those affected, and hindered the process of recovery of the abducted students.

A leader's commitment to the people should be unwavering, especially during difficult times. Responsible leaders strive to be present, visible, and engaged, working side by side with their citizens to address the challenges at hand. This proactive approach not only helps in solving immediate problems but also instills a sense of trust and confidence in the leadership that can be essential for long-term stability and progress.

Bad leaders like Governor Lawal on the other hand, can be personified as a dark cloud looming over the community they lead, spreading an aura of uncertainty and fear.

Leaders like Lawal possess a volatile temperament, prone to sudden outbursts and erratic behaviour that creates a constant sense of unease. Their vision and goals are often unclear, causing confusion and a lack of direction amongst their followers.

They exhibit a lack of empathy, disregarding the needs and opinions of their team members. Self-centered and egotistical, they prioritize their own interests over the well-being of others. Their communication style is abrasive and dismissive, leaving their subordinates feeling devalued and demotivated.

Like a stagnant pond, a bad leader fails to foster growth and development within the society. They discourage new ideas, discourage innovation, and resist change, stifling the potential of those they lead.
Furthermore, a bad leader is not accountable for his own mistakes, instead shifting blame onto others the way Lawal attempted to shift blames onto the Federal Government. They lack transparency and integrity, making it difficult to trust their judgment and decisions.

Like Lawal, all bad leaders can be personified as an oppressive force, casting a dark shadow over the society. They possess characteristics such as volatility, lack of empathy, unclear vision, and poor communication, hindering the growth and success of those they lead.

Leaders are expected to face challenges head-on, confront threats, and find ways to address them proactively. Running from threats may temporarily alleviate immediate pressure, but it ultimately undermines the trust and confidence of both the state and stakeholders.

By avoiding the immediate threats in the state he leads, Lawal has missed an opportunity to demonstrate courage, resilience, and problem-solving skills. Threats and challenges present valuable opportunities for growth and innovation. Leaders who embrace and navigate through these difficult situations inspire their teams, build trust, and foster a culture of resilience and adaptability.

Running from threats also hampers the development of effective strategies and solutions. Without facing challenges directly, leaders may fail to understand the root causes of issues or overlook potential opportunities for improvement. This avoidance can lead to a reactive rather than proactive approach, which often results in poor decision-making and missed opportunities for growth.

In its present state, Zamfara needs strong leaders who can provide clarity, direction, and stability in times of crisis. By avoiding threats, Lawal has undermined his own credibility and the confidence of those he leads.

Gouging from Dauda Lawal's actions, voters in Zamfara State must have learnt the necessity to scrutinize the actions of politicians and hold them accountable for their behaviour in the future.

By demanding integrity, adherence to ethical standards, and a genuine dedication to public service, Zamfara voters can discourage such crass political opportunism and promote politicians who prioritize ther well-being.

Business / Niger Delta Youths Highlight Gains Of NNPCL’s Pipeline Surveillance Contract by ToriTori247: 6:51am On Sep 09, 2023
Niger Delta youths, under the aegis of the Coalition of Niger Delta Youth Groups, has backed the pipeline surveillance contract awarded to Tantita Security Services by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) to ensure a brighter future for Nigerians.

The Coalition also, unequivocally, expresses its unwavering support and confidence in the leadership of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) under the able stewardship of Mele Kyari.

At a press conference in Warri, Delta State on Friday, the Coalition, which is made up of several Niger Delta groups, highlighted some of the gains of the pipeline surveillance and enumerated the giant strides of the Mele Kyari-led management of NNPC Limited.

The National Coordinator of Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC), Comrade Israel Uwejeyan; the National President of Isoko Youth Forum, Prince Brozie Utomodo; the Convener of South-south Youth Vanguard, Barr. Preye Oporomo; and Mr. Valentine Ugboli, National Coordinator of Niger Delta Youth Movement for Youth Empowerment, were among prominent Niger Delta youth leaders at the briefing.

The Niger Delta youths maintained that unified efforts will continue to ensure that the benefits of the pipeline surveillance contract are maximised for the well-being of all Nigerians, explaining Kyari’s endorsement was founded on the remarkable strides achieved through the pipeline surveillance contract, which has proven to be a game-changer for Nigeria.

They said “We, the Coalition of Niger Delta Youth Groups and The Niger Delta Youth Congress, wish to unequivocally express our unwavering support and confidence in the leadership of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) under the able stewardship of Mr. Mele Kyari.

“This endorsement is founded on the remarkable strides achieved through the pipeline surveillance contract, which has proven to be a game-changer for our nation, Nigeria.

“The pipeline surveillance contract has yielded manifold benefits, foremost among them being its significant impact on our oil production capacity. By ensuring the security and integrity of our pipelines, this initiative has bolstered our oil production, contributing positively to the national economy.

“Furthermore, the contract has been instrumental in curbing the menace of oil bunkering, a plight that has plagued our region for far too long”, the youths of the oil-rich region said.

According to them, “the reduction in oil bunkering not only safeguards our precious resources but also has a far-reaching positive effect on the environment, mitigating the devastating ecological consequences of oil spills.

“Perhaps most importantly, the pipeline surveillance contract has become a wellspring of employment opportunities for the youth of the Niger Delta region.

“It has created both direct and indirect jobs, offering our young people a chance at meaningful livelihoods, thereby reducing the allure of illicit activities driven by unemployment.

“It has come to our attention that there are individuals engaged in orchestrated protests against the leadership of the NNPC and the pipeline surveillance contract.

“We wish to emphatically state that these dissenting voices are in the employ of oil thieves and bunkerers who seek to disrupt the progress we have made, It is essential to recognize that dissenting voices, often driven by vested interests, should not deter us from the path of progress.

“The Coalition of Niger Delta Youth Groups remains committed to working hand in hand with the NNPCl and all stakeholders to build a brighter future for the Niger Delta region and Nigeria as a whole. Our unified efforts will continue to ensure that the benefits of the pipeline surveillance contract are maximized for the well-being of all Nigerians.

“Finally, we want to also appeal to the Leadership of the NNPCL to carry the Isoko Ethic Nationality along in the Pipeline Surveillance contract as the Isoko people are major oil producers, and their commitment to maintaining peace and safeguarding oil facilities is evident through years of responsible coexistence with the industry.

“Their track record in ensuring the uninterrupted flow of oil and the safety of critical infrastructure is commendable. We believe it is both fair and just to recognize the Isoko ethnic nationalities by involving them in pipeline surveillance contracts.

“Doing so would not only reward their years of dedication but also strengthen the bond between the oil industry and the local communities”, the youth groups said.

Business / Northern Groups Reject Fictitious Call For Sack Of Kyari, Zahra, Wunti by ToriTori247: 7:22pm On Sep 06, 2023
The Joint Northern Action Groups has rejected what they described as fictitious call for the sack of the Group Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kolo Kyari.

They also rejected the call for the suspension of the Executive Vice President (Upstream), Adokye Tombomieye, the Managing Director, Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) Ali Muhammed Zahra and Managing Director, and National Petroleum Investment Management Services and Bala Wunti.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, the Spokesperson of the groups, Comrade Abdulhameed Enaji, noted that they were challenging “the dubious protest staged in Abuja by some fictitious groups calling for the sack and probe of Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL).”

They stated that “the obscure groups Northern Youth Advocacy for Good Governance Initiative and Arewa Youth Forum also called on the federal government to suspend the Executive Vice President (Upstream), Adokye Tombomieye, the Managing Director, Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) Ali Muhammed Zahra and Managing Director, National Petroleum Investment Management Services and Bala Wunti.

“We note with deep concern the ongoing campaign by sponsored groups of individuals masquerading as members of fictitious Northern Nigerian Youth groups calling for the removal of Mele Kyari as the Group Chief Executive of NNPCL.

“We are however happy that most discerning Nigerians and of course, the Federal Government appear to dismiss the protest as it was orchestrated by individuals who were only interested in advancing their own selfish interests, and not the collective good of Nigerians”, the groups said.

According to the Joint Northern Action Groups, “By now everyone, but chronic detractors, must be aware that NNPCL under the leadership of Mele Kyari has recorded enormous achievements in the oil sector.

“These achievements have been beneficial to Nigerians and have propelled the Nigerian economy forward.
One major achievement is the reduction of environmental pollution.

“NNPCL has put strategic measures in place to ensure that the environment is safeguarded and preserved. As a result, the levels of pollution have drastically reduced which has made the environment safer for Nigerians.

“Another significant achievement recorded by NNPCL is the absence of black soot over Port Harcourt in recent times. This is a result of NNPCL's commitment to environmental safety which has resulted in cleaner air for the people of Port Harcourt.

“Foreign ships coming to steal crude oil from Nigeria waters have been drastically reduced following the stringent measures put in place by NNPCL under Mele Kyari. This has resulted in a significant drop in illegal crude oil sales and has helped the Nigerian Government in generating more revenue.

“Furthermore, Nigeria's crude oil production has gone up under the leadership of Mele Kyari which has seen Nigeria regain its spot as Africa's top crude oil producer from Angola. This has been beneficial to Nigerians as it has helped in boosting the Nigerian economy and increasing foreign reserves.

“Additionally, Nigeria's foreign reserves are growing as a result of the income generated from crude oil sales. This has helped attract more investment to the oil sector, which has resulted in renewed investment in the Nigerian oil sector.

“The creation of jobs by Tantita, a subsidiary of NNPCL, has helped reduce the attacks on pipelines by militants and improved the security of oil installations in Nigeria.

“NNPCL under Mele Kyari has shown great performance and service delivery in the oil sector and is committed to continually safeguarding the environment and providing Nigerians with quality service delivery.

“Under the leadership of Mele Kyari, NNPCL has achieved significant accomplishments. These include generating revenue through the award of oil pipeline surveillance and security to Tantita, which has helped every state in Nigeria.

“Prior to this contract, Nigeria's production had fallen to its lowest in 40 years, forcing the country to borrow with no hope of repaying. However, NNPCL recently announced that production has reached 1.6m barrels again.

“Another achievement is improving national security and territorial integrity. The Niger Delta was once becoming ungoverned because of oil thieves bringing vessels at any time. This was a threat to Nigeria's territorial integrity.

“NNPCL has contributed to reducing pollution and its subsequent social impact. It's essential to protect the environment as it's the single greatest resource of any society. Any destruction can lead to social crises.

“Under his watch, the NNPCL has made significant strides in the development of the Nigerian petroleum industry. We call on him to continue to do his best in the interest of Nigerians.

“We would like to state categorically that this so-called protest is the handiwork of selfish individuals who are only interested in advancing their own interests, and not the interests of Nigerians. We reject these individuals in their entirety and call on all Nigerians to disregard their call for the sack of Mele Kyari.

“As patriotic Nigerians we also commend outstanding leadership of NNPCL and call on him to continue to do his best in driving the growth and development of the Nigerian petroleum industry.

“We call on Nigerians to remain vigilant and reject any attempt by selfish individuals to use the guise of civil society to advance their own interests”, the groups stated.

Politics / Kogi Guber Polls: Hon Danga Woos Team MBM, Says Ododo Is Kogi Agenda by ToriTori247: 2:40am On Sep 03, 2023
The Kogi State Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Dr. Abdulmumini Danga has described Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 11 governorship election in the state as the “Kogi Agenda for continuity and consolidation.”

He spoke at the weekend while playing host to delegates from major opposition parties in the state who visited him under the aegis of Team MBM.

The delegation was led by Mallam Bello Muhammed, popularly known as MBM in the state's political circles.

The political group consists of representives of MBM's political blocs from different opposition political parties across the state.

The Team MBM delegates were members and supporters of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), among other opposition parties in the state.

The delegates were from all the local government areas of the state who met with the commissioner to discuss possibilities of joining forces to deliver the APC governorship candidate in the forthcoming election in the state.

According to the Commissioner, he had to cut short his journey outside the state to keep the appointment on Friday.

Hon. Danga explained to the delegates that he called the governorship candidate before he returned to the state “to intimate him that a group like this would love to be part of our great party because he was very busy.”

He explained further that “This morning, I just called him that this is what is happening and the people are here.”

The Commissioner, who welcomed the members of Team MBM had earlier rushed down to hand over his phone to Mallam Bello who speak with the governorship candidate.

Hon. Danga added, “I had to run down to give him (Team MBM leader) the phone and he attended to you as a human being who has the capacity and capability, the attributes of a good leader, he showed it and I believe most of you heard his voice just now”, he told the Team.

Appealing for support for the governorship candidate of the ruling party, Hon. Danga said, “I am appealing, my brothers the East (Kogi East Senatorial District), there is no different between an Igala man and an Igbira man.

“Go back to history, we have one father from Jukun”, he recalled.

Hon. Danga who cited the Bible where God confused the language of the earth while building the Tower of Babel, noted that “God could have decided that everyone in this world will be speaking Igala” as a single language.

He then called for unity of purpose in support of the Ododo's candidature, saying that “Today, for me, an Igala man is an Igbira man. I am a Commissioner today, my best friend is an Igala man; I eat in his house.

“It has never happened before, where you see an Igbira man and Igala man will go to an Okun's house. Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello planted that unity in us.

“At the level of EXCO, how we seat than today is Igbira man, Igala man and Okun man.

“Today, His Excellency has killed that ethnicity, it's no more like what we do have in the past.

“Alhaji Usman Ododo is to consolidate on the legacy of His Excellency.

“Where are we today? Look at Kogi nine years back and look at Kogi presently”, he urged the delegates.

According to the Commissioner, every resident of Kogi State is enjoying security of lives and property, which had enabled the people to continue to go about their daily activities, including religious worship, despite the fact that the state is at the Central location, surrounded by some states that are troubled by insecurity.

He noted that the secure environment was part of the achievements and legacy work of Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello, the state Governor.

“Without security, our markets will not open, Churches won't open, today is Friday, I have prepared to go to the Mosque, I will not go. We have benefited from that”, he observed.

On Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo as the governorship candidate of the APC in the state, he said, “Alhaji Usman Ododo is just somebody who is coming to consolidate on the achievement of His Excellency.

“Alhaji Yahaya Bello is the only Governor in Nigeria that said I want women to be part of my government. He made all the local government Vice Chairmen, women, the council leader, woman, the SSG we have today is a woman, the head of service is a woman.

“If you look at it statistically, it is women that come out to vote, it is women that will stand and campaign all over the state. That was why Alhaji Adoza Bello decided to empower women politically.

“We have to appreciate them. We shouldn't vote for somebody who will come and kill the spirit of Kogi State.

“Please, the people from the East (Kogi East), leave agenda.

“There is nothing like Okun Agenda, there is nothing like Igala agenda, and there is nothing like Kogi Central agenda; the agenda we have, as a family, is the Kogi agenda.

“The Kogi agenda is Alhaji Usman Ododo. That is the only person we believe that he will take us to the promise land. It's to consolidate what His Excellency has done”, he asserted.

Turning to one of the delegates, Evangelist (Mrs) Rose Odoma, who had earlier spoken about how her group organised a football match at Adankolo area of the state, the Commissioner asked, “you mentioned that there was a football match at Adankolo. Five years ago, can you hold a football match there?” And she confirmed that there was an upgrade there.

“The pitch there is a standard one. Please, we shouldn't go back to Egypt”, Hon Danga appealed.

He urged members of the delegation from the SDP, PDP, LP and ADC, and others, not to hold tenaciously unto political affiliations as “there is no party that can help any person.

“Please, whatever the anger, whatever you feel that is paining you, let's look at now and our future.

“Alhaji Usman Ododo belongs to the system; he has been here for seven years. He knows the pains of Kogites, he knows the pains of the women and the youths.

“Let's be very realistic. Somebody who doesn't know what is cooking will just come and say let me contest?

“Where will he start from, compared with somebody who has been inside the system and understands the system?”, he queried.

“Alhaji Usman Ododo has been part of the system, he belongs to the system and he has been part of the management of security in this state and he has been part of the management of the infrastructure development of Kogi State. This is the time for continuity.”

He urged the delegates to bury whatever anger they may have been harbouring and come together, saying “from the meeting today, let us have it in our minds that we are forming a team for consolidation; we're forming a team for continuity; we're forming a team for better Kogi State”, Hon. Danga charged Team MBM delegates.

The delegation is expected to reconvene for a meeting with the governorship candidate of the APC next week.

Business / Enugu Group Wants Tough Sanctions Against Oil Marketers Shortchanging Residents by ToriTori247: 7:59pm On Aug 25, 2023
...Applauds Gov Mbah's Move To End Inaccurate Metering System At Filling Stations

Foremost sociopolitical pressure group, the Save Enugu Group (SEG), has commended Governor Peter Mbah-led Enugu State government over effort to end the shortchanging of consumers by filling stations in the state, calling for tough sanctions against marketers with inaccurate metering system.

The Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Emeka Ajogu, had during an unscheduled visit to petrol stations in Enugu metropolis to ascertain the alleged metre short-change by filling station owners in the state confirmed that none of the filling stations sales with accurate metering system, including major distributing stations.

In a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the group, Hon. Pascal Ololo, the Group noted that the activities of the marketers who inflate pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and shortchange customers remained a big challenge faced by residents over the years.

“The move to checkmate the illegal activities of filling station owners in the state by the Enugu State Government, under the leadership of Governor Peter Mbah, is very commendable and a legacy achievement if sustained.

“The assurances to the residents of Enugu State about its sensitivity to their plight is unarguable in this regard as the use of inaccurate metering system in the state has long became a norm.

“We join the state government in urging the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, to ensure that filling stations in Enugu State comply with accurate metering system.

“The use of inaccurate meters to dispense products amount to stealing from customers and, beyond being unacceptable, should be heavily sanctioned.

“We equally commend Governor Peter Mbah’s Administration for its commitment to making life better for ndị-Enugu, which it has demonstrated since May 29, especially in efforts towards tackling security challenges in the state”, the SEG.

Education / Coup: African Students Send Strong Message To ECOWAS Over Planned Niger Invasion by ToriTori247: 2:44pm On Aug 20, 2023
Students in the African continent have sent a strong message to the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), calling on the subregional body to channel the resources it intends to deploy for the planned Niger Republic invasion to securing students' campuses, improving quality and access to education for sustainable development in the continent.

The students, under the aegis of the All-Africa Students’ Union (AASU), at a world press conference in Abuja on Friday urged the Africa Union (AU), through AU Peace and Security Council on the Implementation of the Safe Schools Declaration in the Promotion of Education for Children Affected by Armed Conflicts in Africa, to step up their responsibility in ensuring that Campuses are Safe in Africa.

The AASU President, Osisiogu Osikenyi at a world press conference in Abuja on Friday read the demands of the African students.

“We demand accelerated efforts at securing the Release of hundreds of students and other Africans in captivity by various Armed Groups on the continent. They must not be ignored!

“All Africa Governments must prioritize Campus Safety, and increase budgetary allocation to Education; avoid unnecessary skyrocket in cost of living and school fees as Africa education system is too fragile to withstand high cost at this time”, the AASU demanded.

The students observed that “Given the worrisome level of Conflict, Insecurity, and Political Instability occasioning Campus Insecurity that the continent is facing and the daunting challenges in managing the situation by the leadership of the African Union and various Governments in Africa, it becomes obvious that the implementation of the AU Agenda 2063, which aims at the economic progress of the continent, cannot be achieved without Peace and Security in the region; AASU wishes to state our position.

“As we speak – Out-of-School-Children in Africa has hit over 100million with Nigeria, Ethiopia, Tanzania, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan and South Sudan and others topping the Global figures; And sadly, this quagmire is rapidly aggravated by Armed Conflicts, Insecurity, and Political Instability across the Continent.

“Armed conflict is robbing 28 million children of an education by exposing them to widespread sexual violence, targeted attacks on schools and other abuses – and this situation under any guise is unacceptable to the All-Africa Students’ Union”.

The students, who are worried about further escalating the scourge of conflict, insecurity, and political instability occasioning campus insecurity in the continent, noted that the threat of military action by ECOWAS leaders again the military junta in Niger “is of grave concern”.

They urged the head of the Niger coupists, General Abdourahmane Tchiani, who ousted President Mohamed Bazoum, “to embrace dialogue” while asking the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led ECOWAS “to avoid any approach that may aggravate the “Spree of Conflict Quagmire” that is impacting adversely on the continent”.

The African students further observed that “ Almost every part of the continent is torched by the scourge of Insecurity instigated by Political Instability caused by either the State or those opposed to the State.

“In the North African region, political instability instigated by the Arab Spring in 2010 led to instability and regime change in Tunisia and Egypt, the fall of Libya in 2011, and the subsequent rise of international terrorism in the North of Africa.

“The Sudanese civil war from 1983 to 2005, the subsequent carving out of Southern Sudan, and the protracted political imbroglio in the country have continued to puncture any form of development that would have been achieved in the two countries.

“Today, South Sudan has the world's highest proportion of out-of-school children in the world, with 72 percent of primary-aged children out of school; and Sudan is still embroiled in Political Crisis that have Campuses closed and in some cases, conversion of Campuses to Concentration Camps by military forces.

“In the East African region, Kenya is coping with terrorism instigated by Al-Shabaab from neighbouring Somalia; with Education Institutions not being spared such as the attack on Garissa University, Kenya - the deadliest assault – killing at least 147 people. You may also recall that recently on the night of Friday 16th June 2023, Lhubiriha Secondary School, in Southwestern border town of Mpondwe, Kasese district was attacked by assailants killing over 40 people.

“In Ethiopia, The Tigray Armed Conflict that lasted from 3rd November 2020 immediately after COVID-19 Lockdown to 3rd November 2022 in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia between the Ethiopian federal government and Eritrea on one side, and the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) on the other left Education Institutions in the entire Region closed for over 3years, destroying over 7,000 schools and about 1.4million Students unable to go to school. We applaud the “Pretoria Agreement for Permanent Cessation of Hostilities” even as we call for help for reconstruction of Schools in Tigray Region to resume fully and rehabilitation of students and teachers who were forcefully conscripted into the military.

“In the Southern African region, the xenophobic attacks in South Africa are instigating social-cultural disharmony which negates the cooperation and solidarity required for integration and cooperation in the continent.

“In the Central Africa region, the Congo Democratic Republic has been engulfed in a protracted political upheaval and conflict that has been described as the world’s most neglected crisis, due to overwhelming needs and an acute lack of funding including media and diplomatic inattention. The crime of conscription of Child Soldiers and Use of Child Labor has impacted the high number of Out-of-School Children in that country and many others in the region such as Cameroon, Chad, and the Central African Republic who have been struggling with issues of terrorism in the various enclaves.

“The West African region especially countries on the Chad Basin is experiencing the issues of Terrorism and Political instability, particularly, in countries such as Nigeria and Niger that share common borders with neighboring Chad and Cameroon in the Lake Chad Basin region. According to UNICEF, over 11,100 schools are closed due to conflict or threats made against teachers and students in the Central Sahel and the Lake Chad Basin.

“Nigeria and Niger have been confronted by Terrorists and the consequences have been severe on the socio-economic and political lives of the people, including the effective running of government.

“Recently, the military coup in Niger republic and the attendant threat of military action by ECOWAS Leaders is of grave concern as we urge General Abdourahmane Tchiani to embrace dialogue and ask the ECOWAS led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria to avoid any approach that may aggravate the “Spree of Conflict Quagmire” that is impacting adversely on the continent, especially as may impact adversely on Campuses in Niger and other parts of the Chad Basin already suffering gave consequences of armed Conflicts”, the students noted.

Politics / ALGON National President Wants End To Illegal Removal Of Elected LGA Chairmen by ToriTori247: 7:55pm On Jun 25, 2023
The National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria Hon. Kolade David Alabi has commended the Governors of Kaduna, and Kano states for their resolve to allow the democratic process in the Local Governments to continue unhindered either by illegal removal or interference in their finances.

He said that ALGON has received with greatest admiration the comments of the new governor of Kaduna state His Excellency, Engr. Uba Sani to continue to grant financial autonomy to the 23 Councils and their Chairmen to maximally work and enthrone good governance to the people.

The National President said that the news was received across the divide of many ALGON leaders including its Board of Trustees OF (ALGON) representing the conscience of the heterogeneity of the Nigerian rural populace. Responding through its Chairman Hon Odunayo Ategbero, he described the move of the Governor as heartwarming and one that must be sustained in all the affected states with the leadership transition.

Hon Alabi also used the opportunity to thank the new Governor of Kano State, His Excellency Abba Kabir Yusuf who has promised to respect the letters and spirit of the 1999 Constitution as (Amended) by not removing the Council Chairmen but to allow their tenure to its logical end. He described him as a true democrat whose respect for the people's mandate amplifies his patriotism and as one that promises huge gains for the 44 LGAs.

While urging all other Governors to tow such a path, Hon Alabi expressed happiness over the Friday's June 23rd Ruling and Court Judgement of Plateau High Court presided over by Justice Isiaku Kenga who that the 17 LGA Chairmen were illegally removed and should remain in office and ordered that status quo remained.

with these mixed feelings, ALGON National President condemned in strong terms the termination of services of the affected Chairmen by the new Governor, His Excellency Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang on June 1st s suspending the 17 LGA Chairmen and Councilors, an action. According to him, the action was reprehensible, undemocratic and short of all expectations from all ramifications having been a one-time Local Government Chairman, a one-time ALGON secretary in the state, a Lawyer and a widely acknowledged Christian.

ALGON is also watching with keen interest the unfolding activities in the Benue state House of Assembly concerning the alleged removal of the Benue Councils Chairmen amidst Court injunction and wish to appeal to Governor, His Excellency Rev Father Hyacinth Alia to live up to expectations in the interest of Justice and Fair play by not allowing himself to be dragged to such illegality of serving them letters of termination of duty as the Chairmen have their Constitutional rights with a certificate of return that allows them up to 2024 to end their tenure.

The ALGON President described such an incident as a minus for Democracy in Plateau.

He further said that injury to one is an injury to all and that ALGON, as well as the entire 774 and Area Councils, are in the mourning mood of such unwarranted action.

He further said that ALGON will continue to appeal to Judiciary, law enforcement agencies, civil societies and the mass media.

He said that under the present ALGON leadership, the Association has had near mass return to democratically elected Chairmen in almost 28 states out of 36 of the federation with just Abia, Imo, Bauchi, Zamfara, Benue and Anambra, Edo and Kwara of which Plateau has joined in bad light.

He said that it is no longer fashionable running the system with all manner of nomenclature like 'Transition Chairman, Caretaker, and interim Management' which makes appointees subservient and instruments of local oppression against the true social contract for rural service delivery.

While appealing for reversal of such infringement, he canvassed for the unfailing resort to the Nigeria Judiciary as the last hope of the Common Man in laundering the Democratic space, noting that the era of political bastardization, weaponization through all manner of Executive rascality from some states governors at the whims and caprices their appointees in the LGAs in the past have been checked lately.

He referred to the unconstitutional sack of the elected-serving local Government Chairmen which its climaxed-landmark was in judgment against some state Governors who at various times sacked their democratically their elected Council Chairmen and got the vehement judgment of both the ruling of the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court urging their reversals alongside other punitive measures.

The ALGON President vowed that ALGON as a body will continue to fight against such undemocratic actions in the future as much prognostic analysis and evidence, according to him, have shown that such were tantamount to a consequential halt to the smooth running of the Councils leading to odious systemic rot as seen in some states with the current state of their LGA and Councils.

He concluded by calling for the unflinching support of the President Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), who he described as the best local Government friendly Leader to continue to strengthen the Councils in the Country for which ALGON will eternally remain grateful.

Crime / Matawalle: Northern Emancipation Network Tackles Tietie, Says He's Incoherent by ToriTori247: 6:36am On May 27, 2023
The Northern Emancipation Network has come down hard on Frank Tietie for his recent remarks on the face off between Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, and Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, saying they are incoherent flip-flops.

The Governor had accused the EFCC Chairman of demanding $2million from him as bribe to stop a purported probe against him.

However, the Northern Network in a short and sharp response by its Chairman, Suleiman Abbah said the remarks by Tietie were as untrue as the man himself is fake, giving reason why the Governor won't present evidence to the public.

"We noticed the proliferation of comments since the Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle dared the EFCC chairman to be wholistic and not selective in the conduct of his job as demanded by the enabling statute that established the agency.

"The latest is from an obscure joker and self-acclaimed public analyst going by the name Frank Tietie who ventured the most unsophisticated, uncouth and unresearched piece in defense of the EFCC and its Chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa.

"The man ignorantly assumed that Matawalle ought to have released the evidence in his possession to a biased public such as the one he represents, and not to a court of competent jurisdiction.

"In his ignorance of criminal justice procedures, Tietie missed the fact that the mere allegation by Matawalle is enough to initiate a probe that will lead to appearance in court where strict proof will be required.

"Tietie, also deliberately or ignorantly left, did not make mention of the circumstances that led a court of law to recently commit Bawa to prison for contempt in connection with an investigation of scandals running into billions of dollars against the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.

"Besides, the hired commentator could not point at what is really wrong with a person reminding a government agency as important as the EFCC of its obligation under the law, " the Northern Network said.

It lamented that the media space has of recent been infested by all manner of nonentities who collect crumbs to churn rubbish for public consumption.

"Every sane and responsible Nigerian cannot but reason with Matawalle or any other leader with the courage to point out the several inconsistencies and contradictions in the EFCC or any other government agency," the Group said.

The Oodu’a People Frontiers (OPF) has reacted to the recent threat to the North by the Oodu’a People's Congress (OPC) for contesting the National Assembly leadership sharing formula announced by the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) recently.

The APC had recently announced that it zoned the elective offices for the incoming National Assembly (NASS) to individuals from various zones of the country, which sparked controversy and led to a rejection of the party's zoning formula in most parts of the country as different geopolitical zones, including the North, have insisted on contesting various elective principal offices ahead of NASS inauguration in June irrespective of the zoning arrangement by the ruling party.

Reacting to the threat by the OPC, the Convener of the Oodu’a People Frontiers, Comrade Moses Oluwasegun Odewale, in a statement described the action of as the OPC as not a reflection of the the overall views of the Yourubas of the South West Nigeria.

The statement reads: “Our attention has been called to an unfortunate piece of news about the Oodu’a People’s Congress issuing threats to the North for contesting the National Assembly leadership sharing formula announced by the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress recently.

“We feel obligated to react to the action of the OPC for various reasons in order to first of all clear the Yoruba nation for whom OPC claims to speak.

“This threat by the OPC, we dare say, is in no way representative of the views of the decent Yoruba nation and should not be seen as such.

“If anything, the threats, though empty and unsolicited, are embarrassing, shameful and only expose the inconsistencies of the OPC and other groups like the Afenifere that pose as representatives of the entire Yoruba nation”, the OPF said.

The group noted that “by making it look like they are protecting their son, the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the OPC has ended up exposing him in particular and the South West several political vulnerabilities in the future.

“Whether OPC, Afenifere or any other group from any region wants to believe it or not, available facts and figures prove that the North is majorly responsible for the emergence of the Asiwaju as APC flag bearer and to his eventual victory at the polls.

“We cannot forget so quickly that eleven APC governors of Northern Nigerian states stood firmly against all odds and ensured that power moved to the South and to the South West in particular, which paved way for Tinubu’s emergence.

“And there is no disputing the fact that Tinubu’s final victory at the polls was secured by the northern votes which made up 60 percent of the total votes he got, far and above what he got in the South West.

“And facts of history have shown how the North had been consistent with its support for a Yoruba presidency even at the expense of candidates from the North”,

Going down memory lane, the Oodu’a People Frontiers recalled that xuring the 1993 elections, Bashorun Abiola contested on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), “partly due to the influence of a northern force presented by the late General Shehu Yar’Adua.

“And at the polls, the Northern votes comprehensively went to Abiola to ensure his success over their own son, Alhaji Bashir Tofa, a prominent, respected personality.

“Record shows that of the 6.6 million votes that had been announced before the annulment, Tofa had received 2.3 million and Abiola 4.3 million of which more than half came from the North.

“Abiola won all the states of the south-west; three of the seven states in the south-east; five of the nine northern states including Kano, Tofa's state; and four out of the seven states in the central middle belt.

“This gesture was replicated when Olusegun Obasanjo was released from prison by the northern establishment, made a candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party by the northern elite and voted to the presidency by the northern voters in 1999.

“On all these three occasions such self-professed Yoruba protection groups as the Afenifere and OPC was no where visible, in fact they only surfaced after the June 12 annulment to bask in the glory of what they did participate in.

“Also in 1999, Afenifere and the OPC led the Yoruba nation to favour Olu Falae while the North worked for Obasanjo's victory against their son.

“And this time around, Afenifere openly declared opposition to Tinubu, OPC was missing in the field while the North did all the work.

“It is therefore the peak of insanity, shamelessness and ingratitude for the OPC or any Southwest group to reward the North with threats in the false presence of defending their son whom they rejected earlier.

“By this, we wish to emphatically dissociate the decent Yoruba nation from these threats to the North in particular and to any other section of the country.

“We condemn with all our might the uncivilized action of OPC that threatens the long standing political friendship that exists between the North and what is today the South West.

“We call on the President-elect not to fall for the dirty game of the OPC and Afenifere which only aims to pitch him against his most reliable traditional political allies.

“The Asiwaju should as much as possible distance himself from agents of destabilisation operating in various guises and instead concentrate on governance and the task of nation-building with justice and equity to all”, the Oodu’a group stated.
Crime / 107 Anti-corruption Crusaders Tell Tinubu To Cleanse EFCC Quickly by ToriTori247: 5:33pm On May 25, 2023
Following a massive protest in Lagos, a conglomeration of about 107 Anti-Corruption crusade groups led by Crime and Corruption Monitors has impressed on the incoming administration of President-elect, Bola Tinubu to ensure the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is cleansed of entrenched corrupt leadership symbolized by its current Chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa.

The Anti-Corruption crusade Conglomerate speaking after the protest which terminated at the Youths Sports Complex, Lagos, pointed out that EFCC is an important government agency in Nigeria, established primarily to rid the society of corruption and not conceived as an agency for settling scores for political godfathers.

The convener of the conglomerate, Idowu Bello who read the statement in the Lagos rally warned that "If a government agency expected to fight crime is found going about its business in a manner that mimics witch-hunt and selective justice while also being unable to deal with the corruption going on within its own workforce, the nation is headed for real time crises, conflict of confidence."

He noted that despite government's claim of making the fight against corruption and related practices a top priority, EFCC, the agency charged with the execution of the war, is in questions over mounting allegations of monumental corrupt practices.

"Allegations that about 80 per cent of cases under EFCC investigation are not taken to court. EFCC offices now literally serve as courtrooms.

"Last week, Zamfara state governor, Bello Matawalle, alleged that Bawa demanded the sum of $2million from him as bribe to stop a purported probe against him.

"Even before Abdulrasheed Bawa was presented as substantive EFCC Chairman, he has been arrested and detained by the anti-graft agency in 2019 for selling at least 244 trucks worth between N20-30 million each to his proxies at N100,000 per unit.

"He is also accused of recently expanding a large amount of money to the tune of $300,000 for hotels and other activities, which is far and beyond his income as civil servant, during a visit to Mecca with his family on a lesser Hajj.

"There are also allegations of connivance with the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami in auctioning of sea vessels holding crude oil seized by the Federal Government, violating Section 31(2) and (4) of the EFCC Act 2004.

"Malami and Bawa also allegedly authorized the sale of vessels by companies under EFCC prosecution for similar offence of illegal bunkering.
"Bawa and Malami were fingered in the discontinuation of a N25billion criminal charge against Senator Danjuma Goje without any justification after over seven years of diligent investigation and prosecution.

"Equally, the incident of Abel Isah, an EFCC cadet in Sokoto who was allegedly beaten to death by superior officers for refusing to sign off on incomplete exhibits is still fresh in the minds of Nigerians," the statement read.

The Crusaders demanded the immediate sack of Bawa as EFCC Chairman and to be subjected to wholistic probe the way his predecessor Ibrahim Magu was treated.

"Like every other agency of government everywhere, there are global standards of practice for officials who had been accused of gross misconduct to step aside while investigations were conducted to ascertain the veracity of the allegations.

"As pointed out earlier several eminent eminent Nigerians have claimed to possess evidence of corrupt practices, breach of public trust and abuse of office against the EFCC and its Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa.

"It is based on the above observations that the Crime and Corruption Monitors and 107 Anti Corruption Crusade Groups deem it necessary to demand that Abdulrasheed Bawa excuses himself from office and surrender for investigation.

"We demand that if Bawa remains adamant, he be forced out and subjected to comprehensive probe the way his predecessor Ibrahim Magu was made to do.

"Since it is obvious by now that the Buhari administration which brought Abdulrasheed Bawa is not disposed to initiating action, we call on the incoming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to make it first priority to cleanse the EFCC of corrupt leaders.

"Corruption is one of the most serious social and security challenges facing Nigeria today which is the more reason why Tinubu should see it as an existential matter that needs to be addressed and tackled robustly and defeated once for all.

"No nation can aspire to greatness or seek to remain secure and safe when corruption and other corrupt practices are allowed to find their way into all its vital institutions including the agency saddled with the responsibility of fighting it.

"For this reason, corruption must be confronted with the entire will and resolve of the incoming administration beginning with thorough cleansing of the EFCC by first getting Bawa out and subjecting him to probe before extending action to cover other organs and tiers of government in Nigeria without exception.

"Failure to do so will indubitably mean that every effort made the anti-graft agency is headed by suspicious leaders will defeat all development endeavours of the incoming administration and render its task the more difficult and futile.

"We remind the President-elect that National challenges such as the corruption we are faced with should not be treated with levity and condescension.

“Neither should action be limited to targeted individuals or tiers of government. On the contrary, corruption is a cross-national issue that affect every one of us regardless of where we live or come from," the statement concluded.

Politics / Northern Elite Concensus Favours North For Senate Presidency by ToriTori247: 1:51pm On May 19, 2023
A meeting of Northern Nigerian elite and other critical components of the Northern society has reached a consensus that the North having played the most significant role in the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at February presidential elections, becomes the automatic claimant to the position of the Senate President.

The elite consensus was reached in Kaduna at a colloquium organized by the Democracy Watch Initiative with the theme "Inclusive Participation for sustainable Democracy" under the Chairmanship of former Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki.

Various speakers at the event which was attended by several civil society, women, youth and trade groups, concluded that the northern voter has done his job and it is now payback time.

Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, in his address delivered virtually, noted that some people voted because of convictions over qualities of candidates, some because they were induced; some along faith lines and others along party lines.

The result, he said, was that the North was the only region that gave all the candidates huge votes and made the difference in terms of who became elected at presidential level.

"The northern voter has done his job," he said.

He advised individuals and groups lobbying for positions for northern legislators to be conscious of a number of things.

"First, the best thing is to respect the independence of the legislature and allow members to choose their leaders," he said.

Hakeem warned that the North does not want just any legislator from the North to become Speaker but one that should have the highest personal integrity and a good idea of how his position can help him.

"All of them contesting should submit to a process by which their fellow contestants nominate them and then support.

"The same thing should be done at Senate level. If they who know each other better than us cannot decide who will serve our interests as Northerners best, then we stop campaigning for all of them.

“We do not want legislators who want to be in positions of power to fulfill personal ambition," Hakeem Baba-Ahmed said.

Another speaker, Prof Abubakar Abdulllahi, while supporting the calls for the North to be compensated, said democracy is never given its taken and who ever came in come with his interest.

"People have to negotiate with you for votes and for sharing of positions," he said.

Other speakers, Dr Sadiq Gombe, Prof Abubakar Jika jiddere all agreed that the North should be the rightful claimant to the senate president position.

They however all concur on democratic election as the best and only acceptable means of credible leadership selection and called on the political parties particularly the ruling APC to respect democratic values and allow the legislators choose leaders for themselves.

Politics / CNG To Anti-graft Agencies: Why Buhari’s Appointees Shouldn't Leave Nigeria by ToriTori247: 2:45am On May 19, 2023
Disturbed by reports that some government officials are seeking to travel out of the country before May 29 hand over date, the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), on Thursday, urged security agencies, especially the anti-graft operatives, to stop appointees of President Muhammadu Buhari with any corruption allegation from leaving the country before May 29 handover date under any guise.

CNG specifically called on the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, to clear all the allegations against him before leaving the country, urging President Buhari to cancel any approved study leave for the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele.

CNG Spokesman, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, who stated this in Abuja, during a press briefing on Thursday, also kicked against plots to scuttle the May 29 handover, saying those who have such plans should be taken as enemies of the state and must face the wrath of the law.

Suleiman said: “We demand that when the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari bows out of office, all key office holders must be asked to clear themselves of all pending corruption and other allegations against them.

“We insist, in particular, that the CBN governor must be made to give an account of his tenure to the incoming administration. We demand that if any study leave has been approved for Emefiele or any other suspected official, it should be canceled in the interest of peaceful transfer of power, accountability and good governance.

“The CNG observes that just recently, precisely on Monday, May 15, 2023, the Nigeria Police headquarters confirmed that plots to scuttle the May 29th official inauguration of the new administration of the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and governors at the state level are real.

“We demand that anybody or group found remotely involved with the financing, direct execution or concealing information on this sinister and diabolic scheme, be treated appropriately as a treasonable felon and enemy of the state and fellow citizens.”

“We observe that earlier, on May 4, 2023, the nation's Military High Command also alerted on plans to scuttle the May 29 handover and warned the plotters to shelve the idea.

“It specifically said its officers are on standby to forestall any unwanted happening in the country before, during and after the transition.

“We observed also that two weeks earlier, the Defence Headquarters had raised the same alarm that some individuals are plotting with foreign collaborators to disrupt the May 29 inauguration and vowed to track them down.

“We observe that much earlier, the Department of State Services (DSS) had confirmed a clandestine plot by some politicians to derail the handover and install an interim government in Nigeria.

“The CNG has observed also that allegations are growing strong of Emefiele’s planned study leave abroad, presumably to escape Nigeria before the inauguration and avoid questions around alleged terrorism financing, other economic and financial misdemeanors and the introduction of the currency redesign policy in a bid to create obstacles for Tinubu during the presidential campaign which ended up in mass national suffering and confusion.

“We also note some state governors represented by Mohammed Matawalle of Zamfara State have raised the alarm that the the alarm that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Chairman plans an unjust isolated probe of only outgoing governors while excluding the Federal Government functionaries and even the Presidency.

“We also observe that the EFCC boss is making this vow without mention of scrutinizing the EFCC itself were recent reports made an embarrassing revelation of officers fighting to the point of death over recovered items in Sokoto.”

The CNG further urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to extend its investigation of corrupt practices to all Ministries, Departments and Agencies of Government.

“We reject the purported plan to limit the searchlight to only outgoing state governors and demand that the EFCC Chairman carries out a holistic probe by extending the beam on the Presidency, Federal Government ministries, parastatals and cabinet members of the outgoing administration.”

“We also demand a thorough search into allegations against the EFCC itself as well as the disabling volume of debt amassed for the country by the outgoing administration” the group added.

Politics / 10th NASS: Middle Belt Youth Groups Join Protests Against APC Zoning Formula by ToriTori247: 12:47pm On May 18, 2023
The controversy trailing the All Progressives Congress (APC) zoning formula for the position of presiding officers of the 10th National Assembly is yet to abate, as youths drawn from the North Central have said the region would not settle for anything less.

The youths, under the aegis of the North Central Youths Stakeholders Forum and North Central Youths Stakeholders Forum and the Middle Belt Forum, specifically said the region would only accept the Senate Presidency and Speakership of the House of Representatives.

In a statement, the Leader of the NCYSF, Mohammed A Mohammed, said the groups were behind the decision reached at the recent meeting held by governors of the region and National Assembly members-elect, not to accept the decision of the party.

Mohammed contended that the APC zoning arrangement was a deliberate attempt to undermine the contributions of the North-Central to the survival of the party and its victory at the February 25th general elections and subsequent polls.

He said: “We find it unbecoming that other regions that performed abysmally at the polls are given preference in zoning arrangement of the APC NWC while relegating the North Central which contributed optimally to the victory of the APC and its Presidential Candidate would be literally denied any principal position in the coming National Assembly.

“It is all the more insulting that even to consider the North Central for the third position in the legislative houses is subject of debate and speculation.

“In the light of this, we wish to invite the intervention of all stakeholders in the APC to impress on the NWC of the party and all those behind this agenda to rescind, withdraw, review and reverse this unpopular decision and in the alternative, allow the elected federal legislators to form their leadership.”

He called on the President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to stand on the side of truth and justice by supporting the North Central.

“We call on the incoming President to do all he could to reclaim his statesmanship by supporting what clearly is the popular will of the people against those who want to subvert it.

It does not gladden anyone to think that the relegation of the North Central after the central role it played in the emergence of the coming administration in spite of all the odds, is calculated to diminish the rising political relevance of the region.

“For the avoidance of doubt therefore, and for those who have ears to hear, the North Central would never settle for any other position lower than the Senate Presidency and Speakership of the House of Representatives,” he said.
Politics / 34th NEC Meeting: ALGON Vows To Resist Unconstitutional Sack Of Council Chairmen by ToriTori247: 11:48pm On May 14, 2023
The Association Of Local Governments Of Nigeria (ALGON) has vowed to resist unconstitutional dissolution of elected executive of the local government system in Nigeria, saying that it has come to the knowledge of the Association that some Governors-elect are preparing to illegally sack local government Chairmen in their states after they are sworn in on May 29, 2023.

This was one of the vital decisions taken by the Association at its 34th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Lagos State.

The NEC frowned at such illegality being practiced by some Governors, and strongly condemned the “disturbing trend and resolved that such an unconstitutional act will not be tolerated by ALGON and will be resisted in unison.”

According to a communique issued at the end of the meeting on Friday, ALGON insisted on the sanctity of Section 7(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which guarantees the tenure of democratically elected Local Government System.

The communique was signed by the ALGON Chairman, Ogun State, Hon. Babatunde Emilola-Gazal; ALGON Chairman, Imo State, Hon. Willie Okoliegwo; ALGON Chairman, Kaduna State, Hon. Abubakar Buba; ALGON Chairman, Jigawa State, Hon. Bala Usman Chamo; and ALGON Chairman, Delta State, Hon. Victor Ebonka.

The NEC however stated “that despite this constitutional guarantee, it has become a common practice for State governors to unilaterally and without going through the due process of the law to dissolve elected councils and appoint Caretaker Committees to head Local Government Councils.

“This practice is more rampant especially when new governors are sworn into office. Their first assignment in most instances is to dissolve the elected council executives.”

The communique noted that “It has come to the attention of ALGON that some of the Governors-elect, are already set to partake in such illegality once sworn in on May 29, 2023.

“The National Executive Council of ALGON (NEC) deliberated on this and condemns in strong terms this disturbing trend and resolved that such an unconstitutional act will not be tolerated by ALGON and will be resisted in unison.

“It is the position of ALGON NEC that State Governors must recognize that Local Government is a tier of Government and Elected Councils must be allowed to serve their tenures once duly elected just as other elected officials at the State and Federal tiers.

“Local Government chairmen are necessary partners in progress in the development of the states and indeed Nigeria as a whole. Therefore, ALGON will take all necessary and reasonable actions to ensure that democratically elected councils are not forced or intimidated out of office illegally.

“The National Executive Council of ALGON is therefore using this medium to appeal to the Chairman and members of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) to abide by the spirit and intent of the constitution of Nigeria in their relationship and interaction with the Local Government Councils in their various states.

“On the 2023 General Election, the NEC, congratulates all winners in the just concluded electoral process including the President Elect, Senator Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, His Vice Senator Kassim Shettima, the State Governors, Senators and Members of House of Representatives for the 10th Assembly.

“ALGON appeals to all the aggrieved persons, groups, party’s or interest who may have lost or are challenging in the Tribunal some of the victory announced by INEC to remain civil and allow the Court process to conclude in the overall interest of peace, justice and fair play.

“The NEC in the meeting took critical decisions on the reports of its committees assigned to look into the following:

“The progress of work on ALGON Comprehensive Primary HealthCare Centers built in the Local Governments across the country.

“NEC through its committee also studied the hordes of Legal Matters awaiting adjudication for necessary action.

“It also interrogated the contractual agreement between it and the award of Breast Cancer Kits-Transactions with the consultants.

“The NEC examined its status and interests in the ALGON-American Hospital project with a feasibility report on way forward within best practices”, the communique concluded.

Politics / CNPP Enugu Exposes One Adonis Igwe Claiming To Be State Chairman by ToriTori247: 8:47pm On Mar 05, 2023
Conference Of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), Enugu State chapter, has disowned a self-acclaimed state Chairman of CNPP, one Chief Adonis Igwe, describing him “as a serial meddlesome interloper who has been disclaimed by many organizations, including the Labour Party he claims to be its chieftain in the state.

The state executives and members of the CNPP, in a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Dr Afam Samuel Ani and the State Secretary, Hon Aduaka Anthony A, dissociated themselves, state executives and members of the umbrella association of all registered political parties and political associations in the state from a publication on 3rd March, 2023 via an online medium where one Adonis Igwe condemned the outcome of 25th February 25, 2023 Presidential and national assembly elections.

In the said publication, Adonis, who claimed to be the state chairman of CNPP, had subsequently called on Enugu state citizens to come out and vote for Labour Party on March 11 during the governorship and House of Assembly elections.

The CNPP added, “Let it be known to all the citizens of Enugu State, the political class and the chairmen of the 18 registered political parties that Adonis Igwe and the script writer, Mr Norbert Okolo are not members of the CNPP in Enugu State.

“The appointment of the States excos of CNPP is the prerogative and also at discretion of the leadership of the National body in Abuja and this is based on pedigree and competence of the individual which are conspicuously absent in Adonis Igwe and Norbert Okolo.

“We therefore challenge them to publish either in the print or social media their letter of engagement.

“For the benefit of those who do not know, the name Adonis Igwe is synonymous with lies and deception and hence lacks credibility”, the CNPP warned.

The political parties revealled that “His lifestyle is replete with cheating which he employs in swindling unsuspecting political parties to whom he claims that he is a political guru. And in doing so, he looks for a good platform to milk the party or individual.

“To buttress our assertion above, just last year, the Director of Communications for Hon Chijioke Edeoga Campaign Organization, Engr George Ugwu published a disclaimer on Adonis Igwe for his clandestine activities against the Labour Party governorship candidate who he claims he works for.

“The campaign organization had said, and we quote, "We have been duly informed about the deliberate mischief of one Mr Adonis Igwe and we hereby state that Adonis Igwe does not work for or with Hon Chijioke Edeoga, Labour Party gubernatorial candidate for Enugu State in any capacity.

“He is actually working against Edeoga by pitting him against well-meaning stakeholders", the Campaign Organization said.

“And to put the icing on the cake, the campaign Director General added, "stakeholders and supporters of our cause in Enugu State have by this disclaimer, been enjoined to disregard Adonis Igwe or any other mischief maker who may come their way".

The CNPP added that “based on the aforementioned "disclaimer" from Labour Party, who is Adonis Igwe actually working for in the party?

“It is now clear that Adonis Igwe has lost it in the political terrain of Enugu State and hence his ranting is of no effect as he is not of Labour Party as they now regard him as a mischief maker.

“We therefore caution Enugu State people to be weary of Adonis Igwe and beware of poisonous romance with him in the the state political circle.

“For clarity sake, our National Secretariat had earlier on the 26th of February 2023, called the Presidential and National assembly election a charade.

“Therefore, Adonis Igwe cannot condemn the election as he lacks the authority to do so, and as the saying goes, he who comes to equity must do so with clean hands, because he is not a member of the CNPP and so cannot in any capacity speak or represent the body.

“We are, therefore, using this medium to warn Adonis Igwe and Mr Norbert Okolo that there are consequences for usurpation and impersonation in the country's law.

“We will not hesitate to invoke the relevant section of that law that deals with such offence as enough is enough.

“Mr Norbert Okolo should restrict himself to whatever he does for a living as his suspicious claim that he is the Media Aide to the Labour Party Deputy Governorship candidate is doubtful based on his affiliation with an impostor, Adonis Igwe.

“To be forewarned is to be forearmed”, the CNPP stated

CRPP also declared that after assessing the conduct of Ndị Enugu in the presidential and National Assembly (NASS) elections of February 25, commended the high level of interest and participation.

“We encourage everyone to come out and vote for PDP in the gubernatorial and State Assembly election.

“You must consider the key indices in choosing a leader, name, capacity, competence and empathy.

“CRPP, believes that Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah not only possesses the key indices, he has passed through fire in the furnace, had successful practical experiences and proven that he can be trusted with our collective destiny.

“We therefore, call on NdiEnugu to ignore all campaigns of calumny and mudslinging being peddled at campaign grounds by other candidates who are bereft of ideas on what to do for Enugu people and vote for a candidate that has been tested and trusted in many public leadership circles.

“Recall that the present administration of His Excellency, Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, got Enugu State listed among the oil producing states in Nigeria and Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah's experience in the oil industry will translate to a huge economic turn around in Enugu State.

“We have endorsed Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah in the best interest of NdiEnugu and we urge our teeming members and supporters to join the train in the move to a more prosperous Enugu state under the watch of the PDP candidate”, the group said.

“This practice has turned into our political culture and must be sustained by all well meaning people of Enugu State.

“We are conscious of the fact that many illustrious sons and daughters of Enugu state are qualified for the office of Governor but the PDP candidate stands out among his peers and ought to be encouraged to lead NdiEnugu to a greater height as clearly enunciated in his manifesto.

“As participants and stakeholders in the good governance project in Enugu state,it behoves on us to provide guidance in a time like this.

“We finally, call on all Nigerians and Enugu people in particular to shun violence, brigandage and all forms of electoral offences, including hate speeches intended to cause chaos or belittle others but listen to wise counsel from experienced and responsible leaders and cast their vote for the candidate that can guarantee peace, security, economic growth and defense of common good of all of us as represented in the person of Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah”, the CRPP affirmed.

Business / Terrorism: CNPP, CSOs Decry Shoddy Plots To Frame-up Emefiele by ToriTori247: 6:17am On Dec 22, 2022
The Conference Of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) in conjuction with civil society organisations under the umbrella of the Coalition Of National Civil Society Organisations (CNCSOS) has tasked the Federal Government of on thorough investigation of allegation of plots to frame the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele and implicate him as terrorism financier by the State Security Service (SSS) otherwise known as the Department of State Services (DSS).

The groups said a thorough investigation of the the matter will reassure the international community that the rule of law prevails in the country.

Briefing newsmen at a world press conference in Abuja, the Secretary General of the CNPP, Chief Willy Ezugwu who read the address jointly signed by himself and the National Secretary of the CNCSOs, Alhaji Ali Abacha, urged “President Buhari and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), to immediately put in motion the processes of suspending and thoroughly investigating the circumstances surrounding this national and international embarrassment.”

Human rights lawyers and civil rights groups under the aegis of the Coalition of National Interest Defenders had raised the alarm that the Nigerian secret police, the DSS, was plotting to frame the CBN Governor, saying that they have a concrete evidence to support their claims against the State Security Services.

According to the CNPP and the civil society coalition, “the country was jolted when a group of human rights lawyers and some civil society organisations raised the alarm that there was a plot to frame the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele in terrorism financing allegation.

“The gravity of what Nigeria was confronted with came to the front burner when members of the group revealed that the Department of State Services (DSS) had even gone to the extent of approaching the court to obtain a warrant to arrest Godwin Emefiele without the consent or knowledge of the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari”, they said.

Speaking further, the CNPP and the CSOs said that “the Coalition of National Interest Defenders, which brought the development to the open, went ahead to allege that the plot was to keep Mr. Emefiele for at least 60 days until after the general elections next year.

“This should ring a bell when we recall that this alleged plot is coming immediately after the redesign of the naira notes and the review of the cash withdrawal limits for both individuals and organisations.

“We have all hailed the cashless policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria such that even the corrupt politicians who are opposing the cash withdrawal limits acknowledge that it is the way to go but that the timing was wrong.

“They also sort to get wavers for election spending. Why are they looking for wavers? They want to use our stolen commonwealth to buy our votes.

“In view of the current revelation, we are afraid that the State Security Service is derailing from its statutory role to becoming a tool in the hands of desperate politicians. This is dangerous for the country and must be discouraged at any cost.

“Those who wants to receive and spend money without any traces are those who have been kicking against the cashless policy of the CBN.

“If you have legitimate money, why are you afraid to wire the money through bank transfers? Why are you afraid of cash withdrawal limits? There is no limit to the amount you can transfer through the bank but because they are having our stolen money, they don't want to make traceable transactions and that is the sin of Godwin Emefiele.

“That's why they want him out of the way before the election so that someone who can do their biddings is appointed to reverse the cashless policy implementation”, the groups explained.

Hailing President Muhammadu Buhari for his full support of the ongoing cashless policy implementation, the CNPP and the civil society coalition said “We must note that President Muhammadu Buhari has shown maximum support for the economic stability and reform efforts of the CBN Governor and that was probably why they wanted to remove him from office without the consent of Mr. President.

“At this juncture, we hail the Nigerian judiciary for refusing to be used for the planned hatchet job. It is unfortunate but it happened.

“According to reports, the affidavit filed by the State Security Service in support of its application claimed that preliminary investigation had revealed various acts of terrorism financing and fraudulent activities perpetrated by Godwin Emefiele and his involvement in economic crimes of national security dimension but there was no evidence.

“Hence, the court rejected to issue order for the arrest of the CBN Governor. Even, the identity of the said Godwin Emefiele, as the sole respondent, was not clearly stated in the affidavit according to the court, which made the plot more of a shoddy deal.

“And, in view of a reasonable suspicion that some politicians may have influenced the State Security Service in the planned arrest of Godwin Emefiele, we join well-meaning Nigerians and groups to the call on President Buhari and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), to immediately put in motion the processes of suspending and thoroughly investigating the circumstances surrounding this national and international embarrassment.

“The attempt to obtain a backyard order to remove a high ranking officer of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for obvious political reasons should be of serious concern to all Nigerians as we don’t know who will be the next.

“By virtue of Section 150(1) and Section 174 (1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, the Attorney-General of the Federation has the powers to institute and undertake criminal proceedings against any person before any court of law in Nigeria.

“Therefore, nothing stops the Attorney-General of the Federation from exercising his powers in this matter to send a clear signal to the international community that Nigeria is not a banana republic, where anything goes. If public office holders who err are not appropriately sanctioned, it will send a wrong signal to foreign investors and project Nigeria as a country without rule of law.

“This is paramount as Section 174 (3) expressly stated that “In exercising his powers under this section, the Attorney-General of the Federation shall have regard to the public interest, the interest of justice and the need to prevent abuse of legal process.”

“What is primarily at stake here is public interest.

“We hereby urge President Muhammadu Buhari and the CBN Governor never to relent in their efforts to place Nigeria among the best 20 economies in the world in line with the cashless policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

“We assure Mr. Godwin Emefiele that Nigerians on the streets, who are in pains of starvation and hunger due to the continued looting of public funds meant for their well-being by some politicians, are standing with him and will vehemently resist any attempt to derail the cashless policy of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

“We also commend the Federal Government on the exemplary leadership with the ban on cash withdrawals from public accounts. The stoppage of cash withdrawal from all public accounts is another legacy in the war against corruption and electoral fraud by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.

“The ban on cash withdrawals and subsequent directive to public officers to immediately open domiciliary accounts in foreign and local currencies ahead of the commencement of the cash withdrawal policy will deepen the gains of the cashless policy of the federal government through the CBN”,the groups concluded.

Politics / 2023: Let's Bury Our Differences, Stand Up For Prince Bassey Otu - APC Chieftain by ToriTori247: 8:04am On Dec 17, 2022
While insisting that all citizens cannot be governors at the same time, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and former member of the Board of Directors of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Comrade Obi Ojage has said that it must be one individual person a time, urging stakeholders and all party members to united behind the APC governorship candidate in Cross River, Prince Bassey Otu.

Comrade Ojage in a statement on Friday noted that "It is only when we say it as it is, then there will be mutual peace, otherwise, the backbiters will continue with their trade unabated”.

The fiery writer and communicator was reacting to the verdict of the Calabar Division of the Court of Appeal in appeal No. CA/C/337/22, filed by Senator John Owan Enoh (JOE) against the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and Senator Prince Bassey Otu.

The court had affirmed Senator Prince Bassey Otu as the authentic APC Governorship candidate in Cross River State.

However, lamenting that people have not been fair to the APC gubernatorial candidate in the state, Comrade Ojage asserted that as one who has been fairly close to Prince Otu, “it will be difficult to turn a purely divine mission, with a clear perspective,” and devoid of ambiguities, “into something bizarre.”

Worried that through the pettiness and parochialism of some individuals who just wanted “to forcefully get involved” and ended up creating more problems and complication, which they're incapable of solving, for the governorship candidate, beyond noisemaking and wishes “as if the situation is akin to a horse”.

According to the unrepentant Buharist, “Anything that has a beginning must surely come to an end.”

He maintained that “Life, like any other element under the Lord's sun and moon, is never inelastic. It all comes in seasons.

“The litigation by JOE against the Prince has come to an end for sure. The human devils must go and rest.

“We must be allowed to breathe some fresh air. That is the real reason why Christ gave himself on the cross to die so we can live and be at peace.

“I am pretty sure that Senator John Owan Enoh has seen as I do, the danger of not allowing the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) to which he belongs to win the forthcoming Gubernatorial election in the state with Prince Bassey Otu as its candidate. This is no partisanship.

“The quality of our candidate speaks for itself. Just the same, if John were to be chosen. The two are the best you can find today in our state amongst those who have come out to contest, judging from all ramifications, using all parameters in judging”, he observed.

Calling for unity in the state to ensure victory for the APC in the 2023 governorship election, Comrade Ojage therefore appealed that all must at this stage “join hands to bring about a more robustly equipped leadership that Otu represents to become the next Governor of our dear state, after the outgoing Professor Ben Ayade. This is our joint responsibility to see that it comes to fruition.”

Appealing on Senator Owan Enoh to see to take the current situation as a sacrifice and join hands with Prince Otu, Comrade Obi Ojage said that “John must see this for what it is worth, as a sacrifice he must make in his individuality, singularly, to justify his call and election as one of the leaders of the state who has displayed obsequiousness, and extreme generosity and which deserves commendation and reciprocity in an atmosphere where there is conviviality.

“Those who may want to advise him anything to the contrary are not telling him the truth, and neither are they his friends.

“Leadership at the level of Governorship is ordained by the Almighty and no one else. And it is he that is chosen that eventually becomes Governor. Is not a matter of force, fight or imposition.

"Our people must fear the Almighty God and do have a conscience. Truth cannot be suppressed for too long", he said while appealing to Senator Owan Enoh not to stretch the matter further.

The Court of Appeal had on Friday affirmed the decision of the Federal High Court in Suit No FHC/CA/CS/106/2022, delivered by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, on 24th October, 2022 that Senator Prince Bassey Otu was validly nominated by the APC as its Governorship candidate for the forthcoming 2023 Cross River State governorship election.
