A legal showdown with far-reaching constitutional implications is unfolding at the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, where a coalition of civic advocates and prominent citizens have filed a suit challenging the legitimacy of recent appointments to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC). The plaintiffs, led by the Incorporated Trustees of Peoples Life Improvement Foundation, His Royal Majesty Precious Elekima, and Hon. Inanna Wright Harry, are asking the court to halt the confirmation of new RSIEC nominees made under the controversial emergency rule imposed on the state in March.

At the heart of the legal contest is the argument that the appointments, orchestrated by the federally appointed Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), are unconstitutional. The plaintiffs claim that the RSIEC was already lawfully constituted under the chairmanship of retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli and had set in motion the conduct of local government elections scheduled for August 9, 2025. They contend that the abrupt reconstitution of the electoral body under federal oversight undermines democratic norms and violates the Nigerian Constitution.

The suit names key figures in the federal government and the legislature as defendants, including the Attorney General of the Federation, the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the National Assembly, and the Sole Administrator of Rivers State. According to the plaintiffs’ legal counsel, Ebere R. Ugwuja, these parties are accused of acting beyond their constitutional powers by endorsing or facilitating the appointment of new electoral officials without proper legal basis or democratic accountability.

The plaintiffs further assert that ongoing efforts by the National Assembly to proceed with the confirmation of the nominees—despite being formally notified of the pending court case—amount to a deliberate act of contempt against the judiciary. A protest letter dated May 13, 2025, was sent to the Senate leadership urging restraint until the court delivers its ruling. However, reports indicate that legislative steps toward confirmation have continued regardless.

Legal arguments advanced by the plaintiffs hinge on the principle of separation of powers and the need to uphold constitutional limits on federal authority, especially during a state of emergency. They cite past Supreme Court judgments that caution against executive encroachment into matters of state governance, particularly when judicial review is ongoing. Among the cases referenced are landmark rulings which establish the right of the court to intervene when there is a substantial probability of unlawful state action that could cause irreparable damage.

Counsel to the plaintiffs, Ebere R. Ugwuja, described the actions of the federal government and its agents as a “clear overreach of executive authority” that, if allowed to proceed unchecked, could undermine the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic institutions. He emphasized that the Constitution provides no room for a sole administrator or the federal legislature to reconstitute a state electoral body without legislative backing or due process, even under emergency rule.

The legal team has asked the court to issue an interlocutory injunction that would restrain the federal government and the National Assembly from confirming the controversial nominees until the suit is fully adjudicated. They argue that permitting the appointments to move forward would damage the credibility of the forthcoming elections and disenfranchise voters across Rivers State.

The National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA) has debunked reports circulating on social media claiming that the agency has commenced payments to beneficiaries of its programmes, describing the posts as “false, deceptive, and unauthorized.”

In a strongly worded statement issued on Monday by the National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of the agency, Associate Professor Badamasi Lawal, NSIPA said it had become necessary to address “a misleading and unauthorized online post alleging that payments are currently being made to NSIPA Programmes beneficiaries.”

“We wish to categorically state that this information is entirely false, deceptive, and should be disregarded in its entirety,” the agency said.

NSIPA expressed deep concern over the growing trend of misinformation targeting vulnerable members of the public, saying such actions not only mislead but also sabotage the agency’s objectives. “NSIPA strongly condemns the spread of such misinformation, which not only misleads the public but also undermines the integrity of our programmes,” the statement added.

The agency urged Nigerians to avoid engaging with unofficial information sources, warning that it does not announce any form of disbursement through informal channels. “For the avoidance of doubt, NSIPA does not facilitate or announce payment disbursements via Facebook or any unofficial social media platforms.”

A cloud of tension has enveloped the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship screening scheduled for tomorrow, as a powerful pressure group within the party has demanded the immediate disqualification of the incumbent chairman, Chief Christopher Zaka Maikalangu.

The group, Concerned FCT APC Stalwarts, addressed a fiery world press conference at the NUJ Press Centre in Utako on Saturday, raising serious allegations of incompetence, certificate forgery, and anti-party activities against Maikalangu, warning that his continued ambition could spell disaster for the party's integrity and electoral chances in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Speaking at the conference, the group’s coordinator, Mallam Haruna Musa, declared that Maikalangu “lacks the academic, moral, and legal qualifications to represent the APC in any capacity whatsoever.”

> “It would be a grave mistake for the APC to allow Mr. Christopher Maikalangu to participate in tomorrow’s AMAC Chairmanship screening. His record is riddled with inconsistencies and incompetence,” Mallam Musa stated.



The group accused Maikalangu of failing in his responsibilities as AMAC Chairman, referencing an alleged recent encounter with FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, where Maikalangu reportedly admitted his failure to curb insecurity and was reprimanded for not providing essential logistics such as patrol vehicles to local police.

How can such a man lead a strategic area like AMAC?” Musa queried, adding that the ongoing strike by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and AMAC staff under Maikalangu's watch has brought socio-economic hardship to both staff and residents.

Hon. Stephen Abraham Ajiya, a leading figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a former Chairmanship aspirant for the North Central Zone, has sent a heartfelt message to Nigerian Muslims in celebration of Eid al-Adha, urging deep reflection, unity, and sustained prayers for national transformation.

In a goodwill statement released to mark the Eid festivities, Ajiya extended warm congratulations to Muslims across Nigeria, with a special mention of the North Central region. He emphasized the symbolic power of the occasion and its relevance to the nation’s current reality.

Roundtable Theme: We Must Comot Suffer'27; Our Big Thumbs Go Do Am!

1. After an exhaustive debate and rigorious examination of Tinubu's government socioeconomic and political policy thrust in the first two years, the Big Thumb roundtable expressed profound appreciation to Mr. Jeremy Osezua,the convener of Big Thumb Network and Chief Host of the roundtable, represented by Mrs. Eniola Ajayi; Comrade Tony Akeni (Save Democracy Mega Alliance), and Okhaimon Aiyegbeni AA Omonhinmin (Indigenous Food & Allied Processors Association Network) for organizing the timely policy discourse.

The Roundtable demands an immediate and comprehensive axis-symmetry policy framework as a social contract between Nigerians and the Tinubu government, because absence of such articulate policy framework is accountable for the afterthought actions which is now a pattern and norm of the much trumpeted reforms of Tinubu's government.

3. Describes Tinubu's reform as "nebulous, headless, heartless, elitist and fiendish," with their most prominent achievement being the pauperization of Nigerians and plunging of Nigerians' life expectancy to the lowest ebb ever recorded by concerned rating institutions across Africa and the globe.

In light of Tinubu's insensitivity to the sufferings of Nigerians the Roundtable urges organizers to join forces with patriotic actors to form a broad-based coalition to rescue Nigeria from the current insensitive and experimental policies of the Tinubu Administration, which have reduced Nigerians from citizens to laboratory rodents.

Regardless of Tinubu strategy to lure opposition members into APC, complimented with the accelerated cyberpunk war in propaganda stunts unleashed by his _emilokan_ ululationists, the Big Thumb Roundtable and partners assured that those against Tinubu are more than those with him. In addition, despite Tinubu's perceived capture of state institutions and deliberate fragmentation of the opposition trenches, Roundtable expresses certainty that Nigerians will decide the outcome of the 2027 general elections and not the spurious algebraic conspiracy between the federal electoral body and the judiciary contrary to what prevailed and was imposed on Nigerians in 2023.

The harrowing, widespread and unrelenting bloodletting by hordes of land-grabbing killer Fulani herdsmen, bloodthirsty Islamic terrorists and their complicit kiths and kin in commanding heights of the Nigerian military establishment and political administrations who provide cover for these well documented massacres, is a crime against humanity and civilization. Creating a perennial river of bloodbaths across Northern Nigeria is a direct assault to the sacred commands of Allah of the Muslim faith and the Christian God, both of which severely condemn the laying waste of human life for the purpose of coveting and dispossessing victims of their lives, land, livelihood and heritage.

The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has lauded the Benue State Local Government Election Appeal Tribunal for delivering what it described as a “bold and legally sound” judgment, which upheld the October 5, 2024, local government elections and confirmed the victories of all 23 council chairmen and their councillors.

In a statement signed by Comrade James Ezema, Deputy National Publicity Secretary of CNPP, the coalition praised the three-man appeal panel for demonstrating “unshakable commitment to law, truth, and democratic order.”

“The judgments delivered by Justices D.M. Igyuse, M. Ugar, and I. Mohammed are not only legally profound but also a triumph of reason over sentiment and mischief,” CNPP declared. “These are judgments that will resonate through Nigeria’s judicial history as examples of integrity and impartiality.”

The tribunal, which delivered separate but similar judgments across Benue’s three senatorial zones, dismissed all petitions filed by aggrieved aspirants—mostly from the All Progressives Congress (APC)—who claimed wrongful exclusion despite being “rightly nominated.”

Justice Michael Ugar, delivering judgment for Zone A, stated emphatically that, “To prove exclusion, the petitioners were duty bound to prove they were first validly nominated and this they did not substantiate.” He concluded, “The petitioners having failed to prove nomination cannot lay claim to exclusion. Their case is bound to fail and hereby fails and same is dismissed.”

In Zone B, Justice I. Mohammed went further to clarify that matters of candidate nomination are not within the jurisdiction of election tribunals, stating, “The provisions of the Benue State Law, 2007 puts the issue of nomination of candidates out of the jurisdiction of the trial tribunal.”

He criticized the line of argument advanced by the petitioners, declaring, “We do not see a wood in the tree canvassed vigorously by the petitioners. We sit to do justice and not to supervise academic issues.” He then affirmed the lower tribunal’s ruling and dismissed the appeal.

Justice Dennis Igyuse, chairman of the panel and judge for Zone C, echoed these views, characterizing the petitions before the tribunal as “a reckless display of academic prowess without, of course, a destination.” He ruled conclusively: “The consolidated petitions of the petitioners in all of Zone C are dismissed and the LG election of 5th October, 2024 and the return of its winners is hereby upheld.”

The CNPP noted that this unified judicial stance across all zones sends a powerful message about the importance of evidence-based litigation and respect for legal process.

Also reacting to the judgment, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mohammed Ndarani, who led the legal team for the Benue State Government and the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), described the ruling as “infallible and a true reflection of the right position of the law.” He applauded the justices, calling them “the heroes of the process,” and congratulated the council chairmen and councillors, urging them to remain people-focused in their service.

In its message, the CNPP also appealed to courts across Nigeria to draw lessons from the Benue example and ensure that justice remains the bedrock of peace, especially in a politically sensitive environment like Nigeria.

“Where justice is upheld, peace is sustained,” Comrade Ezema said. “We urge our judiciary to continue being the beacon of hope for our democracy. The Benue Appeal Tribunal has demonstrated what it means to stand on the side of truth, no matter whose interest is at stake.”

The CNPP emphasized that the Benue ruling should be a reference point for future election disputes, adding that frivolous petitions not only waste the time of the courts but also obstruct the development of democratic governance.

In a far-reaching campaign, the Association of Female Comrades (AFC) successfully conducted a large-scale Pad Outreach Program across multiple states in Nigeria from May 28 to 30, 2025, to mark World Menstrual Hygiene Day.

This globally observed day, held annually on May 28, emphasizes the importance of menstrual health and hygiene management, especially for adolescent girls and women in under-resourced communities.

The AFC’s nationwide outreach was anchored on a mission to promote menstrual hygiene awareness, dismantle persistent societal stigma, and provide sanitary supplies to girls and women in need. Spearheaded by the Association’s grassroots chapters, the initiative demonstrated a deep commitment to advancing gender equity, empowering young women, and ensuring access to basic health resources.

The campaign reached thousands of beneficiaries across various regions. In Dutse, Jigawa State, more than 1,000 girls received sanitary pads in an event hosted at the Banquet Hall of the Government House.

Ondo State followed closely, where 700 young women were supported through the outreach at Margaret Mosunmola College of Health Science and Technology in Owo. In Ijero, Ekiti State, 500 girls benefited from the distribution, coordinated by the AFC’s National Vice President, Comrade Lateef Taiwo Sofiyah.

Uyo in Akwa Ibom State saw 300 girls receive sanitary products during a session at the Federal Girls Technology College in Ukana Ofot. Ogun State recorded a total of 300 distributions across two locations: 200 pads and educational books were delivered at Girls Grammar School in Ijebu Igbo, while an additional 100 were distributed at the Soilless Farm Lab in Awowo Ewekoro. Osun State’s Agbonran School of Science in Ede witnessed the distribution of 200 pads.

Kogi State’s outreach covered Adavi Eba and Obeiba Ihima, where 200 sanitary pads were shared across two institutions: Glory Comprehensive and Trinity College. In Nasarawa State, the campaign reached 135 girls through sessions held at GSS Nasarawa and UBE Tammah.

Abuja’s Government Junior Secondary School in Nyanya hosted the distribution of 100 pads, while in Oyo State, 50 girls at Shifaul Fuad Academy in Ibadan benefitted from the efforts led by Comrade Adelakun Rahmotallah Anuoluwapo, the AFC’s Director of Action and Mobilization.

Notably, the outreach extended to Katsina State, where 50 packs of sanitary pads and 30 mini pads were distributed to girls at Great Future Academy International School, coordinated by Comrade Asmau Muktar Mawashi. With many states reached and several girls supported, the AFC advances closer to its vision of a society where menstrual equity is a fundamental right, not a privilege.

In a stirring and widely-circulated commentary that has ignited debate across Cross River State and beyond, veteran political analyst and former Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) board member, Comrade Obi Ojage, has raised alarm over what he describes as a creeping wave of ethnic favoritism and administrative missteps threatening to undermine the leadership and legacy of Governor Prince Bassey Otu.

Ojage, a seasoned writer and long-time participant in the state’s political landscape, pulls no punches in his explosive essay titled “Who is Misleading the Governor of Cross-River, Prince Bassey Otu: Is it an Atam Congress of Yore, Or the New Efik Congress of a Few Individuals?” The essay is not just a political critique; it’s a philosophical meditation on leadership, spiritual responsibility, tribal politics, and the future of Cross River State.

At the core of Ojage’s commentary is a growing concern over what he sees as a rising tide of ethnic dominance in Otu’s government — specifically, the disproportionate appointment of individuals from the Efik ethnic group into key positions of power at the expense of other major ethnic blocs in the Southern Senatorial District and across the state.

Ethnic Dominance or Administrative Drift?

The essay is scathing in its assessment of what Ojage calls “undue prominence” given to unqualified individuals who, by accident of ethnicity or proximity to the Governor, now wield significant influence. Referencing an anecdote involving Donald Duke and the late Dr. Emmanuel Nsan, who reportedly urged Duke to “fill sensitive positions with Efik people,” Ojage lauds the former governor’s wisdom in rejecting such overtures. “That didn’t make sense,” Ojage insists, warning that repeating such patterns could sow division and mistrust among ethnic groups, potentially sabotaging future political consensus and peace.

Who Are the Real Puppeteers?

The burning question in Ojage’s article is: Who is really advising the Governor? Is Prince Otu being manipulated by a small cabal using the guise of a so-called “Efik agenda” to entrench themselves in power?

Ojage accuses these unnamed individuals — whom he describes as “spent forces,” “indolent mischief-makers,” and “divisionists” — of taking advantage of the Governor’s gentleness and generosity. These actors, he claims, are not interested in the Governor’s success but are instead fixated on personal gain and tribal entitlement, driven by a false narrative of ethnic superiority.

“These are people who, without merit, see every government as an opportunity to loot and lord over others by simply being from the same local government, church, or family line as the Governor,” Ojage writes.

He cautions that this misguided loyalty could backfire politically, as marginalized groups, particularly the Ejagham — who significantly supported Otu’s candidacy over their own kinsman, PDP’s Senator Sandy Onor — may begin to withdraw support and fuel opposition narratives heading into the 2027 election cycle.

Chief among his recommendations is a complete cabinet reshuffle and reform of key agencies to restore balance, merit, and public confidence in the administration. In a sweeping nationwide tour aimed at revitalizing the Nigeria Police Force Airwing, the recently appointed Commissioner of Police (CP) in charge of the Airwing, CP Martin Nwogoh, embarked on a series of high-level courtesy visits to strategic stakeholders in the aviation industry and within the Nigeria Police hierarchy.

These engagements, held between May 14 and May 22, 2025, are a continuation of CP Nwogoh’s effort to drive forward the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun’s agenda to reposition the Airwing as a formidable aerial surveillance and tactical support unit.

The visits, which spanned Lagos, Osogbo in Osun State, Enugu, and Lafia in Nasarawa State, were focused on fostering collaborative partnerships in aircraft maintenance, technical training, drone deployment, and infrastructure development. The CP used the engagements as platforms to rally for support, share the IGP’s vision, and cement critical partnerships to ensure continued airworthiness, operational sustainability, and training advancements for the Airwing.

Engagement with Caverton Group: Consolidating Technical Collaboration

CP Martin Nwogoh visited the Caverton Group Headquarters in Lagos where he was warmly received by the Chief Executive Officer, Captain Rotimi Makajola.
In his welcome address, outlined Caverton’s operational footprint spanning aviation and marine services, with emphasis on training and maintenance capabilities.

Highlighting their deep expertise in aircraft maintenance, Captain Makajola expressed Caverton’s readiness to partner with the Police Airwing by integrating police engineers into their maintenance programs.

Lecture and Facility Tour at the Lagos Airwing Hangar

On May 14, 2025, CP Nwogoh delivered a lecture and conducted a facility inspection at the Lagos Airwing Hangar. DCP A. Razaq welcomed the CP and gave a detailed briefing on recent achievements and prevailing challenges, including poor accommodation, absence of a functional power generator, vehicle shortages, and general disrepair of the hangar premises.

CP Nwogoh praised the resilience of the officers and pledged immediate action, starting with the provision of a power generator upon his return to Abuja.

The CP emphasized the strategic importance of the Lagos Hangar as the first in the country and assured the personnel of its full restoration. He outlined the IGP’s broader agenda to revive grounded aircraft, deploy drones, reinforce discipline, and improve welfare across the Airwing.

The CP also toured key facilities including the dilapidated AIG’s Office, library, stores, pilot rooms, avionics section, and administrative areas, reaffirming his resolve to overhaul Airwing infrastructure Nationwide in line with the IGP's directive.

Strengthening Ties with Airfirst and Aviation Stakeholders

Furthering technical collaborations, CP Nwogoh paid a courtesy visit to Airfirst, an MRO service provider, whose Abuja office currently operates out of the Police Hangar. Discussions centered on integrating the Airwing into Airfirst’s Continuing Airworthiness Management Organisation (CAMO), which would enhance the operational sustainability of Police aircraft.


Osogbo Visit: Appeal for Infrastructure Development

On May 16, 2025, CP Nwogoh visited Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, where he met with the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Muhammad. The visit focused on the Police helipad in Osogbo, which currently lacks a hangar and technical facilities. CP Nwogoh emphasized the need to deploy pilots, engineers, and necessary equipment to activate operations at the site.

CP Umar pledged to communicate the importance of the facility to the State Governor and to seek his support in establishing a fully functional hangar and associated infrastructure.


Tour of Enugu Airwing Facility and Visit to International Helicopter Flying School

CP Nwogoh’s tour also took him to Enugu, where he inspected the Airwing facility established in 2014 under the administration of former Governor Sullivan Chime. Although the hangar includes accommodation and office space for pilots and engineers, it has remained underutilized due to the absence of personnel and equipment. CP Nwogoh met with the Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, and the state Commissioner of Police to discuss deployment plans. Both pledged their full support, with the Governor promising assistance once operations commence.

The CP also visited the International Helicopter Flying School (IHFS) located at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu. He was received by the Rector, Captain F.S. As the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) prepares for its North Central Zonal Congress in Jos on Saturday, May 24, 2025, Hon. Stephen Abraham Ajiya, a contender for the National Vice Chairman position, has issued a passionate call for party delegates to uphold democracy and resist external influences.

Addressing a press conference, Ajiya underscored his commitment to the founding principles of the PDP, describing the upcoming congress as a pivotal moment for the party's future in the North Central region. "We must pause and reflect on the direction our party is heading," he urged. "There are troubling developments that threaten the very soul of the PDP in our zone."

The normally quiet suburb of Zhidu in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Abuja came alive with compassion, medical support, empowerment, and heartfelt fellowship as the Project 100 Initiative—a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project of Dine and Pack Limited—brought a full-scale community outreach to the area.

At the heart of the transformative event was Chef Aishatu Gamalia, popularly known as Chef Mimi, the visionary founder of the Dine and Pack Culinary Training Centre and the Executive Director of the Project 100 Initiative. Together with her team, sponsors, and partner organisations, Chef Mimi led the charge in reaching the underserved community with a rare blend of medical care, food, clothing, education support, and long-term empowerment strategies.

“This initiative is our CSR,” Chef Mimi told journalists during the event. “I’ve always had the need to train people. I’ve seen many who come to me for training but cannot afford the fees. That’s why we’re teaching basic skills like baking—things that can generate daily income. Whether it’s cooking, making Zobo, soap, or other small-scale products, the idea is that people should at least come back home with a thousand Naira a day. That is our vision and dream.”

The day-long event brought together medical doctors, lab technicians, pharmacists, and a strong team of volunteers who provided free diagnoses, prescriptions, and drugs to hundreds of community members. Residents also received food items, drinking water, clothing, and sanitary materials—each person leaving with at least one essential item.

“We came with a lot—over a thousand different things—and our target is that everyone goes home with something,” Chef Mimi explained. “It could be a bag of water, a plate of food, a piece of clothing, or a few moodles of Gari. It’s very satisfying seeing the smiles and the gratitude. The medical team is doing well, diagnosing and dispensing drugs. Everything is working out just fine. I’m happy. The most important part of this is impact.”

Chef Mimi went on to share the full vision of the three-legged programme the Project 100 Initiative is implementing in Zhidu. “This outreach is the first leg,” she said. “The second is our Back to School Project. We’ll be selecting students—some based on school recommendations like honor roll—and we’ll provide them with school bags, books, and stationeries. For others who want to attend school but cannot afford it, we’ll place them on a scholarship.”

“And because we want long-term, sustainable development, we’re not stopping there,” she added. “The third leg is empowerment. We’ll select five to ten individuals from this community and place them on our skills empowerment programme—train them, and set them up in small businesses. This is only the beginning.”

The outreach featured partnerships with other humanitarian organisations, including Pro-Health International, a Christian non-governmental organisation that has been delivering free medical services for over 30 years across Nigeria and parts of Africa.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Chisom Orizu, a representative of Pro-Health, explained their broader mission: “We focus on underserved communities—those who cannot afford quality healthcare. We provide surgeries, dental care, eye treatment, and give out free glasses and drugs.”

“But it’s not just about the physical needs,” she added. “We do it with the love of Christ. We spread the gospel alongside our medical work. Some people don’t necessarily need medication. What they need is a word of encouragement, a hug, a scripture. And through that, we’ve reached millions of souls over the last 30 years.”

Ms. Orizu praised the collaboration with Project 100. “This is our first time partnering with Project 100, and we’ve already attended to several patients here in Zhidu. Our doctors, nurses, med lab scientists, and pharmacists are working tirelessly. Besides healthcare, we also have food distribution, free sanitary products, and health talks—particularly around mental health.”

Also present at the event was Ann Rhodes, a passionate environmental advocate and representative of the Africa Women Conference – Next (AWC-Next), who focused on menstrual health and hygiene. She introduced the menstrual cup as a sustainable alternative to regular sanitary pads—emphasising its economic and environmental benefits.

“It’s not enough to tell women to stop using disposable pads; we have to provide something better,” she said. “The menstrual cup is safe, sustainable, and budget-friendly. One cup can last for up to 10 years.”

Rhodes also shared her personal experience to highlight the life-changing nature of the product. “When I talk about the benefits of menstrual cups, some people think I’m exaggerating. But it’s real. Pads absorb not just blood, but also natural moisture, causing vaginal dryness and itching. I used to think it was normal to itch after my period until I switched to menstrual cups. Four months later, I realized I no longer needed anti-itch tablets. That’s a personal testimony.”

She further explained the long-term savings and convenience: “If you’re traveling, instead of packing 14 pads, all you need is one cup in your handbag. It’s very discreet and effective.”

Rhodes' initiative to crowdfund menstrual cups and distribute them freely in underserved communities struck a chord with many attendees, including Janet Sunday, a Zhidu resident. “When she first explained it, I was confused. I thought, ‘how will this thing enter a woman’s private part?’ But she took time to explain it clearly. Now I understand how to fold and insert it, how to remove and clean it. I really appreciate it.”

The day began with a heartfelt speech from Chief Eli J. Gamaliel, father of the day and a director of the Project 100 Initiative, who stressed the spiritual and communal importance of such outreach programs.

“The essence of today is to reach out, to show fellowship, and to bring to life the promises and values of Dine and Pack Limited in this community,” he said. “God made us all—men, women, Christians, Muslims, young and old—not so we can be divided, but so we can serve and fellowship with one another.”

“This is fellowship,” he declared. “Communities like Zhidu may feel forgotten, but Project 100 carries the burden of remembering and reaching them. Even if you don’t receive everything you need today, you can be grateful that people came. That alone is a turning point.”

As the day drew to a close, Zhidu residents were seen leaving the venue carrying food, medical packs, clothing, and—perhaps most importantly—hope. Children smiled with new school supplies. Women chatted excitedly about business training. Elderly residents waved goodbye to doctors who had just checked their blood pressure or dispensed medicine.

For Chef Mimi and her team, it was a beginning worth celebrating—but also a call to action.

“This is how we change lives,” she said. “One person, one family, one community at a time.”

And in the heart of Zhidu, a long-overlooked corner of Nigeria’s capital, that change has already begun.

The former Governor of Anambra State and the 2023 Presidential standard bearer for the Labour Party, ( LP) His Excellency, Peter Gregory Obi, has lifted five young Kaduna State entrepreneurs with various sums of money to expand their businesses.

The five individuals were among the participants who excelled at the Kaduna small and medium scale enterprises exhibition, tagged SMES HUB Programme organized by Hassan Adamu during the weekend at the ancient power house of the Northern Nigeria.

Obi who was invited as a special guest at the event aimed at showcasing the ingenuity of the youths and their determination to be entrepreneurial or business owners was represented by the National Coordinator of Obidient Movement Worldwide, Dr Yunusa Tanko.

The five recipients of Obi’s empowerment supports were a lady chef, Ummu Kurthum of the Qrusty's Dishes & Pastries who emerged first position, Aminu Ahmed Nu'uman who is in culinary business with the business name, Sufac Food Industry took Second Position while the third position went to Joel Tirom Muah, equally a lady whose business name is Pherobies & perfumes.

The consolation prices went to Moses Ojo whose interest is footwear and goes with the business name MO Footwears & Appeals and Hajara Jafar Muhammad another female participant whose business name is Gimbiya Integrated Firm.

Obi who in his usual way would not want the price values disclosed appreciated the efforts of the participants in trying to stand on their own without waiting for government and urged them to remain determined in their strive to be self employed.

He equally praised the organizer of the f kaduna SMES HUB Programme for the initiative stressing that it was a good platform to get the best skills out of the youths and put them into positive engagements so that they can believe in themselves.

The youths who exemplified various business ideas and innovations were happy with the show of love, kind gesture and award of prices by Peter Obi through the Obidient Movement.

The Enugu State Chapter of the Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) has commended Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for his significant strides in enhancing security and peace-building across the state since assuming office on May 29, 2023.

In a joint press release signed by Chief Innocent Ezeoha (State Coordinator), Dr. Afam Ani (Chairman), and Barr. Ken Ikeh (Secretary), the coalition emphasized the administration's visionary approach to tackling security challenges and fostering a safer Enugu State.

"As a coalition committed to good governance and democratic accountability, we recognize that a secure and peaceful environment is the bedrock of sustainable development, social harmony, and economic growth," the CRPP stated. The All-Africa Students' Union (AASU) has issued a statement of grave concern regarding what it describes as a “wanton visa consular crisis” between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. The regional umbrella student body warned that the escalating tensions between these two influential African countries are inflicting serious harm on academic mobility, regional cooperation, and the broader goals of continental integration.

In a formal statement released by the Union, AASU condemned the recent developments in consular relations, particularly the mutual removal of both nations from each other’s eVisa eligibility list. According to the Union, there is now no known avenue for ordinary passport holders from either country to apply for visas, a situation that has led to significant delays, rejections, and confusion for travelers, especially within the academic community.

“These recent developments have resulted in stringent visa requirements, delays, and rejections, severely impacting regional integration, academic mobility, and cooperation between the two nations,” stated HE Osisiogu Osikenyi E., President of the All-Africa Students' Union.

The Union expressed deep concern about how this consular standoff undermines critical frameworks such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the African Union’s Agenda 2063. According to the statement, these frameworks are founded on the principles of economic integration, free movement, and pan-African collaboration — principles that are now being put in jeopardy by this growing visa impasse.

“The visa consular crisis undermines the principles of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the African Union's Agenda 2063, which aim to promote economic integration, mobility, and cooperation among African countries,” the Union stated. It emphasized that the ability of students, researchers, and academics to travel, collaborate, and engage in joint intellectual endeavors is being severely hindered, threatening to stall the continent’s academic and developmental progress.

AASU’s statement further highlighted the damaging consequences this crisis is having on education and research partnerships. The Union noted that joint academic programs are being canceled or indefinitely postponed due to the prevailing visa uncertainties. Student exchange programs, a vital aspect of academic development and cultural exchange, have also been significantly disrupted. Researchers, too, are finding it increasingly difficult to collaborate, share knowledge, and innovate, as visa constraints continue to close doors that should be open.

“The restrictions imposed by both countries have resulted in cancelled academic programs, disrupted student exchanges, and limited research collaboration,” the Union emphasized. It expressed that such disruptions are not only a setback for the individuals affected but for the collective progress of African academia.

In light of the seriousness of the issue, the All-Africa Students' Union issued an urgent appeal to the governments of Nigeria and Ethiopia to take immediate and decisive action. “The Presidency of the All-Africa Students' Union urges the Governments of Nigeria and Ethiopia to ease visa requirements, simplify and streamline visa application processes to facilitate academic mobility and cooperation,” the statement declared.

The Union also called for increased diplomatic engagement aimed at resolving the crisis and repairing bilateral relations. “Engage in diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis and strengthen bilateral relations,” AASU urged, adding that efforts should be geared toward promoting unity and shared progress rather than reinforcing division.

In a powerful concluding appeal, AASU called on key African leaders to intervene. “The AASU calls on HE President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR of Nigeria, and HE Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali of Ethiopia; and other African leaders to swiftly summon their Foreign Missions in both countries to address the lingering impasse,” read the final section of the statement. The Union further urged the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, to take active steps to mediate and mobilize both governments in favor of resolving the crisis in the interest of regional integration and academic cooperation.

“We believe that by working together, we can build a stronger, more prosperous, and more integrated Africa,” President Osikenyi concluded, reinforcing the Union’s commitment to the vision of a connected and collaborative continent.

Nigeria's Minister of Defence H.E. Mohammed Badaru Abubakar CON, mni, reaffirmed Nigeria’s unwavering commitment to the United Nations (UN) and the global community in promoting peace and security during the second day of the Plenary High-Level Pledging Session of the United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial 2025.

The Minister highlighted Nigeria’s active participation in international peacekeeping efforts, noting the country’s rotation of the Base Protection Force deployed with the United Nations Interim Security Force in Abyei, as well as the Formed Police Unit at the United Nations Transition Mission in Somalia.

In his address, Badaru emphasized Nigeria’s leadership role in sub-regional peace initiatives under the auspices of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Union (AU). He cited Nigeria’s significant contributions to peacekeeping missions in Sierra Leone and Liberia, and more recently engagements in The Gambia and Guinea Bissau.

Furthermore, Minister Badaru announced Nigeria’s renewed pledges to the Peacekeeping Capability Readiness System, adding five additional commitments aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s readiness to support global peacekeeping efforts.

A powerful coalition of more than 75 civil society organisations, human rights groups, and community-based organisations under the umbrella of the Coalition of National Civil Society Organisations (CNCSOs) has sounded the alarm over what it calls "a grave affront to judicial integrity" in Niger State. In a detailed statement signed by its National Secretary, Alhaji Ali Abacha, the coalition condemned the actions of Justice Bilkisu Yusuf of the High Court of Niger State, Minna, accusing her of undermining the rule of law and creating a dangerous "judicial collision" with the Court of Appeal.

The coalition’s outrage is focused on proceedings in Suit No. NSHC/MN/247/2014, a high-stakes land dispute between Homefronts Consultants Limited and Foundation Mira over a prime piece of property on David Road, Minna. According to CNCSOs, Foundation Mira holds a valid Certificate of Occupancy issued more than 30 years ago by the state government, with no record of revocation, and has paid millions of Naira in statutory ground rent. The land, they noted, has since been transformed into a multibillion-naira international shopping mall, with investments exceeding N20 billion.

"Justice Yusuf took his illegality to the extreme by looking into the sunny face of the Court of Appeal by refusing to stay proceedings even when an appeal over the subject matter has been filed before the Court of Appeal and the Court has already started sitting on the matter," the statement read. "This blatant defiance creates what is, in judicial circles, described as a head-on collision with the Court of Appeal."

The coalition accused the judge of allowing the plaintiffs to construct residential buildings on portions of the land that were meant to serve as parking space for the mall, despite the case still being contested in court. "This blatant act of possession, allegedly encouraged by the court’s inaction or complicity, undermines both the integrity of the litigation process and the rights of the defendants," CNCSOs declared.

The coalition expressed additional concern over what it described as deliberate obstruction of the defendants’ right to a fair trial. According to the statement, the defendants’ attempts to present their witnesses were repeatedly frustrated, prompting them to file a motion seeking Justice Yusuf’s recusal. "The 1st and 2nd Defendants, after facing continuous obstruction in calling witnesses to support their case, filed a motion requesting the recusal of the judge to allow for a fair reassignment. This motion was summarily dismissed," CNCSOs stated.

Following the dismissal, the defendants filed an appeal before the Court of Appeal (Appeal No. CA/ABJ/PRE/ROA/CV/1392MI/2024) challenging the refusal to recuse and the denial of a fair hearing. Despite formal notification of this appeal and confirmation that proceedings commenced at the Court of Appeal on January 22, 2025, Justice Yusuf reportedly pressed on with hearings in the lower court.

"Legal experts agree that once an appeal on the subject matter has been filed and proceedings have commenced at the Court of Appeal, the lower court is constitutionally bound to suspend any further action," the coalition emphasized. "Justice Yusuf’s decision to forge ahead in defiance of this principle amounts to what is known in legal parlance as a 'judicial collision' with the Court of Appeal."

The coalition also revealed that Justice Yusuf is facing other petitions before the National Judicial Council (NJC), including one tied to a separate case, Suit No. NSHC/MN/727M/2024 (Ammatulah Chado Jummai v. Mr. Samuel Gana & Anor), where similar conduct allegedly occurred. According to CNCSOs, the NJC Secretariat officially received one such petition on February 14, 2025.

"The actions of Justice Yusuf do not only endanger the outcome of the specific case in question, but also tarnish the sanctity and public perception of the judiciary in Niger State and Nigeria at large," the coalition warned. "The Judge's conduct strikes at the very heart of the trust the Nigerian people must have in our justice system to be fair, unbiased, and respectful of judicial procedure and appellate authority."

In response, the coalition issued a set of urgent demands: immediate investigation by the NJC into Justice Yusuf’s conduct, reassignment of the case to another judge by the Chief Judge of Niger State, and intervention by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) to safeguard judicial credibility.

"We call upon [the CJN] to ensure that justice is not only done, but seen to be done in this case," CNCSOs urged. "We believe that her leadership is vital in guiding the NJC and protecting the credibility of the judiciary from erosion due to rogue behaviour by a few within its ranks."

Warning of potential mass action, the coalition vowed to mobilize nationwide protests if decisive action is not taken. "Should appropriate action not be taken swiftly, the Coalition will be left with no option but to mobilize for a mass protest at the NJC Secretariat and other relevant institutions to demand accountability and insist on justice for the aggrieved parties," the statement read.

Concluding the statement, Alhaji Abacha reaffirmed the coalition’s commitment to defending Nigeria’s democratic values. "Let it be known that our call is not merely in defence of the rights of the defendants in the suit in question, but in defence of every Nigerian who depends on the courts as the final hope for justice," he declared. "A judiciary that is not accountable endangers the very fabric of our democracy and peace."

The coalition expressed optimism that the matter will be addressed with the urgency and seriousness it demands, reiterating its resolve to uphold the rule of law and institutional accountability nationwide.

The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) and the Coalition of National Civil Society Organisations (CNCSOs) have jointly raised alarm over what they describe as a dangerous attempt by the Chief Judge of Benue State, Hon. Justice Maurice Ikpambese, to manipulate the Local Government Election Petition Appeals Tribunal for political purposes.

In a strongly worded statement signed by Comrade James Ezema, Deputy National Publicity Secretary of CNPP, and Alhaji Ali Abacha, National Secretary of CNCSOs, the groups alleged that Justice Ikpambese orchestrated the removal of Justice Maimuna Ikwulono from the Appeals Tribunal for maintaining her judicial independence. Justice Mohammed has since been appointed in her place, raising serious questions about the credibility of the tribunal's work.

The CNPP and CNCSOs cited credible reports linking the Chief Judge’s actions to an ongoing political feud with Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia and an alleged alliance with the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Dr. George Akume. They allege that Justice Ikpambese, who is expected to retire next year, has been promised the Senatorial ticket for Benue North-East (Zone A) in exchange for using his office to weaken the Governor’s political base by removing elected local government chairmen aligned against Akume’s interests.

They noted that so far, tribunal judgments have led to the removal of four out of seven chairmen in Zone A, with no chairmen removed in Zone B — a clear indication of targeted political maneuvering.

The groups recalled that a previous effort by the Benue State House of Assembly to remove Justice Ikpambese through a petition was stalled by interventions from the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the National Judicial Council (NJC), both emphasizing strict adherence to due process.

Of particular concern, CNPP and CNCSOs referenced video evidence showing Justice Ikpambese at a political event, where he reportedly boasted — in Tiv language — about his intention to frustrate Governor Alia by influencing tribunal outcomes through selective appointments.

The groups further alleged that the Chief Judge hurriedly constituted an emergency panel within the tribunal’s final month, leading to controversial rulings that ousted elected officials and installed candidates who had not even contested the elections — a development they describe as a "calculated judicial ambush" against the will of the Benue electorate.

As a consequence of these actions, the Benue State Government has reportedly lost control of nine out of twenty-three local governments, deepening political tensions in the state.

The CNPP and CNCSOs categorically condemned the removal of Justice Maimuna Ikwulono on the basis of an uninvestigated petition, insisting that only the NJC has the constitutional authority to discipline judicial officers. They warned that unilateral interference in judicial functions poses a grave threat to democracy and judicial independence.

While commending the Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman of the NJC for her ongoing efforts to safeguard judicial integrity nationwide, the groups issued a stern warning to Justice Ikpambese:

"If the Chief Judge does not immediately discontinue his self-confessed plans to use the Local Government Tribunal to frustrate the Governor and the electorate of Benue State by manipulating tribunal outcomes through selective appointments, the CNPP and CNCSOs will be left with no option but to mobilize mass protests to occupy the National Judicial Council (NJC) headquarters until he is removed from office."

They concluded:
"The integrity of our judiciary must never be sacrificed on the altar of political expediency. We demand immediate corrective actio to protect democratic institutions and uphold the sanctity of justice in Benue State."

The newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Nigeria Police Force Airwing, CP Martin Nwogoh, has commenced a series of courtesy visits to key aviation stakeholders at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, aimed at fostering stronger collaboration and mutual understanding in the aviation security ecosystem.

The visits, which began on Wednesday, follow CP Nwogoh’s recent assumption of office as the Commissioner of Police and Accountable Manager of the Force Airwing, succeeding AIG Danladi Lalas, who retired after attaining the mandatory age of 60 years.

Speaking during the visit to the 011 Presidential Air Fleet (PAF), CP Nwogoh emphasized the significance of maintaining and deepening the long-standing relationship between the Police Airwing and the aviation community.

"It is a distinct pleasure to meet you. I must be very honest to say, I assumed duty about three weeks ago after AIG Lalas retired from active service," he stated. "Upon assumption of office, I considered it very imperative that I should go around and acquaint myself with the stakeholders in the industry. PAF is a very capital and strategic player in the industry. So, I decided it is very important that among the first places I should visit is PAF."

CP Nwogoh underscored the crucial role of the Presidential Air Fleet and expressed his desire to continue the legacy of strong collaboration established by his predecessor.

"Lalas told me it was a wonderful relationship we had with this office. So, I'm here to crave your indulgence that that relationship will continue and see ways of deepening it," he added.

Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Commander of the Presidential Air Fleet, Air Vice Marshal Olayinka Oyesola, the Fleet Operations Officer, Air Commodore A.B. Sule, conveyed the PAF's commitment to sustaining the partnership.

"We've had a long-standing relationship with the Police Airwing and are happy to have you here," Air Commodore Sule said. "The Presidential Air Fleet is tasked with providing airlift for the President, Vice President, and top government officials. He outlined the necessity for an elite force that is not only well-equipped but also proficient in advanced tactics, unconventional warfare, intelligence-driven operations, and rapid response missions.

He stated, “Our vision is to build a highly skilled, agile, and mission-ready force capable of executing specialized operations in diverse and complex environments.”

This Special Operations Force Training is a strategic initiative aimed at improving operational effectiveness in combating terrorism, insurgency, transnational crime, and other asymmetric threats facing our nation.

The Special Operations Force will serve as a critical pillar in securing national sovereignty, protecting citizens, and maintaining peace and stability both within and beyond our borders.

Furthermore, he said that the training program is meticulously designed to develop personnel in special combat tactics, counterterrorism operations, intelligence gathering, and hostage rescue missions.

“Trainees will be prepared for high-risk missions in urban and hostile environments, ensuring adaptability to dynamic threats. Given the inter-agency nature of modern security challenges, this training will promote seamless collaboration among personnel from the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, and other security agencies,” he explained.

Recognizing that Special Operations require not only technical skills but also mental resilience, he emphasized that the training will rigorously test and refine the physical and psychological endurance of our troops. “Emphasis will be placed on leadership under pressure, fostering duty, discipline, and camaraderie among participants,” he stated.

According to the Minister: “Upon completion of this intensive training program, we anticipate a force capable of conducting high-impact operations with precision, speed, and efficiency. This will enhance our ability to neutralize threats and proactively respond to security challenges. The newly trained Special Operations Force will be deployed to critical areas nationwide, reinforcing our national security architecture,” he said.

Minister Badaru assured that this training is merely the beginning, as trainees will continue to hone their skills and adapt to new threats while upholding the highest military standards.

The inauguration marks the first batch of 800 trainees out of a planned total of 2,400, as part of a long-term strategy to develop world-class special operations capabilities within the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

The program will be sustained and expanded to include personnel from all branches of the Armed Forces. The President and Commander-in-Chief, as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda, is committed to equipping our Special Operations Forces with modern weapons, surveillance systems, and intelligence tools to enhance operational effectiveness.

The Labour Party National Caretaker Committee (NCC) has intensified its demand for the prosecution of Barr. Julius Abure, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, Ojukwu Clement, and Edward Nkwegu Okereke, who are accused of perjury, forgery, and criminal conspiracy.

At a press conference addressed by Prince Dandy Rowland, Chairman of the Nigerian Corruption Watch Magazine, on behalf of the NCC expressed deep concern over the delays in prosecuting the suspects despite clear directives from the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

“This press conference is to call the attention of the Honorable Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice and to sensitize the press regarding the subject matter of the criminal indictment,” Prince Rowland stated.

He highlighted the seriousness of the allegations, which include the submission of forged documents to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the 2023 general elections.

The case, documented under CR: 3100/X/LEG/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.II/1, involves forged signatures and falsified court orders used to unlawfully remove Eze Oko, the validly nominated Labour Party gubernatorial candidate for Ebonyi State. Certified True Copies of the investigation report and INEC documents confirm these allegations. “Forgery, perjury, and criminal conspiracy are serious offenses that should not be swept under the carpet,” Rowland emphasized.

The NCC also accused the suspects of violating court orders and conducting an illegal Labour Party National Convention in Nnewi, Anambra State, in March 2024. These actions were described as “illegal, null, and void” by the NCC, citing INEC’s affidavit and the Electoral Act of 2022.

Despite the Inspector General of Police’s directive for prosecution, the case has faced significant delays. The NCC expressed frustration over the lack of action, stating, “The Nigeria Police Force Legal Department had long ago advised that the suspects be charged to court. And despite our repeated inquiries, the relevant authorities have not been able to give us any explanation as to the reasons for the delays.”

The NCC criticized the perceived impunity of the suspects, alleging that they have boasted about their political connections. “Julius Abure goes about bragging and boasting that as far as his sister remains the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Justice in Abuja, nobody can prosecute him nor his criminal accomplices,” the NCC claimed.


In response to the delays, the NCC announced plans to mobilize over 500 civil society organizations and anti-corruption groups to demand justice. “This demand to ensure that Julius Abure and others are prosecuted without further delays is additionally a public consensus,” Rowland said. The NCC warned that failure to act would undermine Nigeria’s anti-corruption efforts and tarnish the government’s credibility.


The NCC issued a seven-day ultimatum for the Attorney General to bring the suspects to court. “The Labour Party National Caretaker Committee hereby calls on the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice to, without further delay, bring the suspects to court within seven days, as directed by the Inspector General of Police,” Rowland declared.

The press conference concluded with a strong message of accountability. “We commend the complainant, Eze Oko, for rejecting monetary bribes and insisting that justice must be served. This case should serve as a deterrent to any other party executives in Nigeria who may wish to engage in such acts in the future,” Rowland stated.
