A group under the auspices of Tinubu Arewa Media 2023, led by Comrade Abdulhamid Bala, has issued resounding condemnation of the baseless allegations circulating against the Minister of Defence, Muhammadu Badaru, by persons it described as certain meddlesome individuals.

The group, which has been in the forefront of the campaign for the victory of President Bola Tinubu, described the media attack on the Minister as unfounded and totally unacceptable.

"These shameless falsehoods, accusing Minister Badaru of an imaginary shadow romance with PDP figures, are nothing but lies from the pit of hell, concocted by those desperate to destabilize the APC and disrupt the unity we have worked hard to build" , the group said in a terse media release on Tuesday.

Comrade Bala denounced the allegations against the Minister as a deliberate, malicious campaign of calumny.

"These detractors are attempting to weaken our party’s stronghold by tarnishing the image of a man who has devoted himself to the APC and to our nation’s progress," Bala stated.

He explained that "The claims linking Minister Badaru to an opposition plot are the height of absurdity and betrayal, grounded in fiction rather than fact. Those fueling these rumors are simply enemies of progress with no respect for truth or integrity."

The group insisted that Minister Badaru’s unshakable dedication to the APC, both as a former governor and now as Minister of Defence, is indisputable. It noted that Badaru's leadership has consistently embodied the values of the APC, advancing the interests of Jigawa State and Nigeria as a whole.

The group further stated that Badaru's allegiance to the party and unwavering support for President Tinubu’s administration cannot be questioned, as his record of service speaks volumes.

The group called on all APC loyalists and President Tinubu to disregard these pathetic, unfounded rumors intended to distract from the party's goals.

"These smear campaigns are orchestrated by agents of division and deceit," Bala continued, "They may try to stir up trouble, but they will find no footing within the APC. Minister Badaru remains an honorable figure of loyalty, courage, and competence."

The group declared that it stands firmly with Minister Badaru and condemns "the reckless tactics of those attempting to undermine his
legacy and loyalty.

"We remain united against these disgraceful, fabricated attacks, which only highlight the desperation of those who fear the strength and resilience of the APC in Jigawa State and beyond. No level of slander will distract us from supporting our leaders and pursuing our mission for a stronger, united Nigeria", they emphasized.

The group, further disclosed that it is well aware of the politician behind this smear campaign against Minister Badaru.
"This same politician, notorious for his intolerance, previously resorted to similar tactics in dealings with a Mining business partner. We therefore issue our final warning: if this individual dares to target Minister Badaru with such deceitful antics again, the group will not hesitate to expose his full identity to the public, through the media", it threatened.

A Non-Profit Organization with focus on promoting equity and economic inclusion, Equitable Development Action (EDA) in partnership with Tibro Global Company Ltd, has concluded plans to hold Pan Africa/USA Business Summit in Minnesota with the aim of powering Pan Atlantic Economic Transformation through Trade and Investment.

The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), Enugu State Chapter, has strongly denounced the senseless killing of renowned Ogene musician, Igbo-Jah, by a reckless police officer in Enugu State.
In a press release signed by its state chairman, Hon Afam Ani, the CNPP expressed outrage over the gruesome murder, emphasizing that justice must be served.

"We condemn in totality the gruesome murder of Igbo-Jah by a trigger-happy police officer," said Hon. Ani. "The Nigeria Police Force must take responsibility for the actions of its officers and ensure that justice is served."

The CNPP commended the swift response of the Nigeria Police Force but insisted that more needs to be done to address police brutality. The group emphasized that concrete actions must be taken to prevent future incidents.

The CNPP also demanded the immediate dismissal of the redeployed Enugu State Command's anti-cult commander, Mr. Ekeleme, citing his numerous anti-people policies and high-handedness. According to the CNPP, his tenure has been marred by atrocities, and his subordinates' disregard for human life is a direct result of his leadership style.

"The state Commissioner of Police should have acted sooner to address Mr. Ekeleme's atrocities," the CNPP said. "Why was he removed only after this incident? It raises questions about the police leadership's commitment to accountability."

The CNPP applauded Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah for providing scholarships to Igbo-Jah's children up to university level. However, the group emphasized that justice must be served and those responsible held accountable.

"The people of Enugu State deserve better from their law enforcement agencies," Hon. Ani concluded.

The Nigeria's Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Muhammed Bello Matawalle, has received praise from Comrade Famuyibo Oluwasegun, the newly elected National Speaker of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria (YAN).

Oluwasegun commended Matawalle's courage in combating bandits and terrorists in North West of the country and his loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

During his acceptance speech at the national election in Abuja, Oluwasegun described Matawalle as a youth role model.

… three weeks after his statement in a viral video, there is fire on the mountain.

There was a video interview wherein the Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Benjamin Kalu made some political predictions and urged the Governor of Abia State Dr Alex Otti to cross over to APC for his reelection, considering the realities ahead in 2027. It was a friendly and harmless advice, which didn't in anyway suggested directly or indirectly that the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon Benjamin Kalu is harbouring any intension of contesting Abia Governorship against Governor Alex Otti.

Therefore, one wonders why Governor Alex Otti would take such a simple political invitation from a supposedly close friend to another level of animosity. Otti threw caution to the winds by spending Abia resources on social media e-rats to continuously attack the image of the Deputy Speaker; if he wasn't behind it why hasn't he made a public statement asking his brothers/friends/supporters, particularly Professor Chidi Odinkalu to desist from his unwarranted attacks on the person of distinguished Deputy Speaker?

. Is Gov Alex Otti really this callous as has been severally accused by his close allies and associates?

It is therefore unfathomable the extent Governor Alex Otti took the mere political advise from Rt. Hon Benjamin Kalu when similar invitation was made to the immediate past Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu during his own time in office. Like the perfect and peaceful gentleman that he is; Dr. Ikpeazu laughed over the invite and simply and jokingly asked Rt. Hon Benjamin Kalu to come over to his own party, the PDP. There was no drama, no bad-blood, rather they both laughed over it and still enjoyed robust relationship till date.

Again, same invitation was extended to former Governor T.A Orji, by the Deputy Speaker, Ochendo as he is fondly called simply replied by saying “...my family has joined APC, I have retired from active politics“; and the rest was history as both leaders laughed over it. Why has Governor Otti decided to make a mountain out of a harmless political invite, which other Governors before him didn't consider as anything serious but has surprisingly triggered a very high level of bitterness in a Governor who pretends to be more Christian than others and follows renowned Pastors around to create a false impression on people.

However, it is pertinent to point out again and clearly too that in the said viral video, Rt. Hon Benjamin Kalu never said he was running for the office of governor against Governor Otti, but only merely invited him to crossover to APC to run for his reelection because, Rt. Hon Ben Kalu foresaw that the structure Governor Otti was standing on was not sustainable.

Surreptitiously, Governor Alex Otti hired tik-tokers all over the world and a certain pay-to-twit minion of a Law Professor to malign and make mockery of a simple invitation, instead of brush it aside jokingly like other Governors. Thousands and millions of Abia taxpayers money was spent on Lagos state and Abuja based journalists, skit makers, social media influencers to launch series of attacks on his supposed friend and brother, Rt. Hon Benjamin Kalu. Who does that to another, he calls friend for no just reason.?

The question begging for answer is why a Governor who is struggling to pay Seventy thousand minimum wage and didn't pay wage award as at when other Governors were paying; could afford to be wasting billions of Naira on National Newspapers, TV stations, bloggers in Lagos and Abuja just to destroy someone he once called a friend?

Expectedly, the Deputy Speaker has remained calm without going to war on the media with a man he called friend, notwithstanding the provocative attacks on his integrity, howbeit his statement in the said viral video seems like a prophecy which is unfolding daily in Abia Labour Party. The structure Governor Otti is standing on now is shaking in line with Ben Kalu's prediction, only the wise can read the handwriting on the wall. Governor Otti's woes are compounded by the sack of many Abia workers, inability to show Abians where he built the N6.5billion recreational facilities, lack of transparency and accountability, the government's penchant for propanganda, deception and lies.

Rt. Hon Benjamin Kalu's prophecy has come true in the sense that, If Abia Labour Party cannot deliver a simple Local Government elections peacefully without Governor Otti running around to secure platforms from Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) to Young People's Party (YPP) for his nominated candidates to contest under, is it the INEC controlled Gubernatorial election that won't give Otti even bigger stress?. Recall that the authentic Labour Party leadership just recently concluded to withdraw the automatic reelection ticket hitherto reserved for Otti.
Prophecies of those close to God usually come to pass, is Rt. Hon Benjamin Kalu also among the prophets? It is even appearing to be so.

Consequently, these purveyors of political attacks on Rt Hon Benjamin Kalu took their media warfare against an important bill sponsored by the Deputy Speaker seeking to establish a UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIAN LANGUAGES at ABA, as can be seen in the National Assembly journal of 2nd October, 2024 and published by the clerk of National Assembly. There was nowhere in the said journal that "TINUBU UNIVERSITY" was ever mentioned. If not for mischief and wickedness why would these people fighting the Deputy Speaker mock a bill that will eventually upgrade the existing but moribund Nigerian Institute Of Nigerian Languages in Aba to a full university, and ultimately expose the decaying institution to better funding through accessing Tetfund and other federal government policies. Moreover, it will be at no cost on Federal government.

Apart from the many direct benefits to the host community like employment, infrastructural development etc that upgrading the institution to a full university will attract; Nigerian languages are daily eroded by lack of interest of the younger generation, teachers of these languages are diminishing by the day, parents are forgetting to speak it at home and in the process one of the core element of our identity ( language) fades away before our eyes in preference to the language of our colonial masters. We all should be worried as the representatives are worried.

Finally, it is high time, we all supported the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon Benjamin Kalu to continue putting Igboland on the map.

Lawmakers are rated based on certain basic criteria. These include, but are not limited, to; the number of Bills sponsored, the effectiveness and efficiency in oversight functions, and the number of development projects attracted to the constituency; development being the function of the projects attracted.

Other indices are the number of projects executed, attitudes towards promoting peace and harmony, which is directly a reflection of the level of peace and unity brought to bear on his constituency based on his opinion and position on issues, and the community services rendered.

For RT. HON. MAKKI ABUBAKAR YALLEMAN, a Member of the 10th House of Representatives, and Member representing Mallam Madori/Kaugama Federal Constituency, and current Chairman House Committee on Police Affairs, performing these duties and also holding sway as the Committee Chairman has brought him a lot of opportunities for service to humanity.

His position as the Committee Chairman enabled him to oversee the affairs of the entire Police department in the country.

It was American Max Depree who was quoted as stating these timeless words: ' The first responsibility of a leader is to define reality'.

In Nigeria, finding a permanent solution to the challenges of insecurity and education, thereby securing the environment for life and property and finding a solution to the educational needs of our people is paramount sine quo non to prosperity and a viable national economy.

This has also proven to be the biggest constraint to the full manifestation of the ingenuity of the people of his constituency. He aggressively tackled the challenge using sometimes his resources and also the power of effective legislation.

For instance, Rt. Hon. Makki constructed level-3 Primary Health Centres for women and children in Yalleman Tijjani, Dakaiyawa Ward of Kangama Local Government Area.

He also distributed motorcycles in Mallam Madori/Kaugama Federal Constituency.

As part of his legislative duties, Rt. Hon. Abubakar sponsored three Bills, which include; the Federal College of Nursing and Midwifery, Kaugama (Est.) Bill, 2024, the Federal Vocational and Entrepreneurial Training Centre, Mallam Madori, Jigawa State (Est.) Bill, 2024, and the Nigeria Police Force College, Training School and Institution (Est.) Bill, 2024.

Rt. Hon. Makki in a bid to ensure an all-inclusive constituency as well as its general growth stood against narrow myopic interest by asserting the nobility of group aspirations above individual ambition.

His firm belief that a people must once in their lifetime, grind to a halt for self-assessment and evaluation, led him to convoke a series of meetings and one-on-one with his constituents. Sometimes compelling him to extricate himself from the easy life of comfort at Abuja.

As Chairman of the House Committee on Police Affairs, he championed several reforms and innovative interventions leading to several amendments to the Police Act, to revolutionize and strengthen the delivery capabilities of the Force.

His adherence to principles and strategic alliances led to the adoption of best practices in the Force and a more sustainable volte-face.

There is no doubt that Rt. Hon. Nikki Abubakar has made giant legislative strides as the Chairman House Committee on Police Affairs, and have also justified the trust reposed on him both by his constituents and colleagues.

The Civil Rights Advancement Crusade (CRAC) has commended Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, the Chief of Naval Staff, for his exemplary leadership and transformation of the Nigerian Navy.

Under his visionary guidance, the group said the Navy has tackled maritime security challenges head-on, addressing crude oil theft, illegal refining, piracy, and sea robbery.

In a statement signed by Samson Ogorry, the CRAC said Vice Admiral Ogalla's strategic approach has enhanced the Navy's capabilities, ensuring the safety of Nigeria's maritime domain.

According to him, the Operation Delta Sanity, initiated under his leadership, has significantly reduced illegal activities in the Niger Delta region, safeguarding the country's economic interests.

Ogorry added that the Navy has exhibited exceptional professionalism, steadfastly upholding respect for human rights, prioritizing the welfare of personnel, and championing accountability.

The CRAC also acknowledges the Navy's improved logistics and human capital development under Vice Admiral Ogalla's leadership.

The organisation calls on all stakeholders to support Vice Admiral Ogalla's vision for a more secure and prosperous Nigeria and urged the federal government to provide necessary resources to enhance the Navy's capabilities.

In a significant development for Nigeria's aviation sector, the All-Africa Students' Union (AASU) has commended the Federal Government's decision to designate Dangote Refinery as the sole supplier of Jet A1 fuel.

This move, supported by Nigerian airline operators and other aviation stakeholders, is expected to bring substantial economic benefits to the country.

The AASU, in a statement signed by its President, H.E. Osisiogu Osikenyi E., highlighted the economic advantages of this decision, saying that by halting the importation of aviation fuel, the country stands to save a considerable amount of foreign exchange, thereby reducing the pressure on the naira and stabilizing the national currency.

This policy aligns with the Federal Government's broader strategy to enhance local production and self-sufficiency.

The exclusive supply arrangement with Dangote Refinery is anticipated to bring about cost efficiencies for airline operators.

By sourcing fuel locally, airlines can mitigate the volatility associated with international crude oil prices, leading to more predictable and stable operational costs.

This stability is crucial for the sustainability and growth of the aviation sector, which is a vital component of Nigeria's transportation infrastructure.

AASU noted that the operationalization of Dangote Refinery as the sole supplier of Jet A1 fuel is expected to spur job creation and foster industrial growth.

The students' body noted that the refinery's increased production capacity will necessitate a larger workforce, thereby providing employment opportunities for Nigerian youth. Additionally, AASU said the growth of ancillary industries related to aviation fuel supply and logistics will further contribute to the nation's economic development.

According to the students' body stated that localizing the supply of Jet A1 fuel also presents environmental benefits by reducing the carbon footprint associated with the transportation of imported fuel. "This strategic move enhances Nigeria's energy security, ensuring a reliable and consistent supply of aviation fuel, which is critical for the country's connectivity and economic resilience."

The All-Africa Students' Union praised the visionary leadership of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led Federal Government and the collaborative spirit of the aviation stakeholders in making this transformative decision.

AASU said it remains committed to supporting policies that drive economic growth, industrial development, and sustainable progress across the continent.

Dr. Akko emphasized that Governor Mohammed's achievements speak for themselves. "The facts on the ground speak for themselves... anyone who really wants to know the truth about the state of things in Bauchi can do so by simply visiting the state."

The Northern Committee for Defence of Human Right (NCDHR) has expressed its unreserved support and appreciation for the recent ruling of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which categorically dismissed the suit seeking to compel the Federal Government to investigate the alleged links between the Minister of State for Defence, Alhaji Bello Matawalle, and the operations of bandits in Zamfara State.

It called on Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State to desist from politicising the security situation and cooperate with the federal government.

The Convener of the group, Tijjani Hashimu, in a statement noted that "this decision is not only a reinforcement of the rule of law but also a significant affirmation of the commendable efforts made by the federal government in the fight against the alarming scourge of insecurity that has plagued Northern Nigeria."


The group observed that in a time when the security situation in various parts of Nigeria remains a critical concern, "it is heartening to witness the judiciary standing firm against attempts to undermine the progress realized in countering the rampaging threats posed by banditry and related crimes."

The Northern human rights body maintained that the ruling "aptly recognizes that continued legal challenges, particularly those lacking substantive evidence, may detract from the collective focus required to combat these menacing security issues.

"The court’s dismissal of the suit serves as a clarion call to all stakeholders to rally around the ongoing efforts to restore peace and security to our communities."


The NCDHR acknowledged that the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari, had taken commendable strides toward addressing the multifaceted challenges of insecurity in Northern Nigeria.

"From strategic military operations targeting kidnapping kingpins to the enhanced collaboration with local vigilante groups, the government's endeavours have laid a foundational framework for rebuilding the trust of the citizens and ameliorating the fear that has gripped our communities."


According to them, under the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration, the ongoing successes in the fight against banditry — especially in states such as Zamfara, where the menace has been particularly acute — underscore the importance of a unified approach to solving security challenges.

"The recent successes of our security forces in apprehending notorious criminals and dismantling their networks buttress the necessity for all citizens to support the government’s initiatives aimed at restoring law and order.


"While we wholeheartedly welcome the court's ruling, we also implore the citizens of Northern Nigeria to remain vigilant and resilient in the face of adversity. It is essential for us to collectively debunk any unfounded allegations that could distract from the real issues at hand.

The Concerned Young Leaders Forum has praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Nyesom Wike, for revitalizing trust and confidence in public officials under President Bola Tinubu's leadership.

In a statement signed by Dr. James Titus Uzah, the group said the House of Representatives' passage of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) 2024 Supplementary Appropriation Bill of N288 billion demonstrates Wike's commitment to infrastructure development and internal revenue generation.

Recall that the lower legislative chamber passed the supplementary appropriation bill for a third reading on Thursday, after Rt. Hon. Muktar Betara, chairman of the house committee on FCT, presented a report.

Betara asked his colleagues to approve the budget, saying there are critical projects that need to be completed within a short timeframe.

Uzah said the allocation of 89.21% of the supplementary revenue to capital projects will stimulate economic growth and improve residents' quality of life.

Fresh facts have emerged on plans by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to convert the Port Harcourt Refinery into a blending plant for lower quality petroleum products from Russia and Malta. The Port Harcourt Refinery has so far cost Nigerians 2Billion Dollars.

According to credible sources, the plan by the NNPCL was to rival the Dangote Refinery, which commenced operations recently.

According to a source who pleaded anonymity for fear of victimization, stated that some key players that have benefited from the fuel subsidy scam in the country are behind the new approach to continue to milk the country dry.

“The NNPCL has perfected plans for the commencement of operations of the Port Harcourt refinery. But what most people don’t know is that the operations of the refinery would be centred around blending substandard products sourced from Russia and Malta.”

The source further added that plans are in top gear towards converting the Port Harcourt refinery into a blending plant to continue the importation of petroleum products into the country to sustain the fraudulent subsidy regime that gulps millions of dollars.

“It is a shameful act to think that the NNPCL is engaged in such despicable enterprise. The management of NNPCL has always acted against the interests of the country.

"They are in bed with the cabal that operates the subsidy regime and with the commencement of operations of the Dangote refinery, the only way to sustain their illicit trade is to convert the Port Harcourt refinery to give the impression that the refinery is running at full capacity. The Port Harcourta Refinery has so far cost Nigerians 2Billion Dollars, whereas what would happen is nothing but economic sabotage.”

Another source who is one of the engineers working in the Port Harcourt refinery stated that the top management of the NNPCL is behind the conversion of the Port Harcourt refinery into a blending plant to rival Dangote refinery.

“We all know that the products from Dangote refinery are of better quality and with the capacity to meet the domestic needs of the country and as such that would put the cabal out of business and for that not to happen, the NNPCL came up with this despicable strategy to deceive the people”.

The source added that the substandard products would be sourced from Russia at a cheap rate and the chemicals would be sourced from Malta. The end product would be cheap but of very low quality.

“This is nothing but economic sabotage. The implication is that the Port Harcourt refinery won’t be able to refine our crude because of the new configuration and that would lead to the continued importation of petroleum products into the country and the attendant payment of subsidy on these products.”

“At the end of the day, Nigerians would be shortchanged and the subsidy cabal would continue to smile to the bank at the expense of the generality of Nigerians. This is indeed a shame and from the look of things, the big people in government seem to have bought into the idea by giving the NNPCL the nod to covert the Port Harcourt refinery into a blending plant.”

It was also gathered that some international interests are aiding the NNPCL in the conversion process and they have provided the NNPCL with the required support to actualize the conversion process. This much was corroborated by a top staffer of the NNPCL who didn’t want his name mentioned. He stated that in no distance time, it would be announced that the Port Harcourt refinery had commenced operations.

“Yes, very soon the refinery would commence operations. However, the products from the refinery would do more harm than good to the consumers and the resources of the country. Don’t forget that billion of dollars were earmarked and released for the operations of the Port Harcourt refinery with taxpayers monies. Ironically, these monies have been spirited into private pockets. It is such a shame.”

“If only Nigerians know what is happening at the NNPCL, they would weep for the country. This is the height of insensitivity and wickedness. Most times I wonder if those at the helm of affairs of the NNPCL care about the economic situation in the country. Their actions can only be described as devilish. This is the sad reality that we are faced with. I dare say that not until the present bunch at the NNPCL leadership are shown the way out, nothing will change and Nigerians will continue to pay through their nose for petroleum products”

It would be recalled that the NNPCL has assured Nigerians that the Port Harcourt Refinery would commence operations on several occasions to no avail.

Efforts to contact the Federal Government-owned commercial company fruitless and a tweet at the official X handle of the NNPCL was not responded to for over 10 hours before filing this report.

Some lawyers from the Niger Delta have issued an ultimatum to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and its Managing Director, Mele Kyari, to ensure the Port Harcourt Refinery becomes operational before the end of September, as previously promised.

According to the lawyers, the refinery's non-functionality has led to an energy crisis, with oil-producing communities forced to purchase fuel at higher rates than other parts of the country.

Under the auspices of the Coalition of Niger Delta Youth on Energy Reforms and Transparency in the Oil and Gas Sector, they said this is a deliberate attempt to further impoverish the Niger Delta region.

In a statement co-signed by Dickens A. Opu and Werigbelegha Zinake, the lawyers expressed concerns over the refinery's proposed conversion into a blending plant for substandard petroleum products from Russia, arguing it would expose the region to harmful chemicals and environmental pollution.

Mele Kyari had earlier stated that the Port Harcourt Refinery would commence operations by December 2024, with the Warri and Kaduna refineries following suit in the first quarter of 2024 and by the end of 2024, respectively.

However, the lawyers demand immediate action, citing the region's significant contribution to the country's revenue.

“We wish to state that we have it on good authority that the Port Harcourt refinery si being packaged to become a blending plant where substandard petroleum products from Russia will be mixed with chemicals and sold to the Niger Delta people. This is not only acceptable, it also shows a gross disdain for the Niger Delta people,” the statement said.

“Those in authority do not care about the negative impact of this plan on the livelihood of the Niger Delta people. The Niger Delta people would be subjected to untold hardship by paying more for petroleum products, and also the attendant consequence in other critical sectors of the Niger Delta economy.

“The economic value chain around the operations of the Port Harcourt refinery would be greatly disrupted and bring about a regime of hopelessness and the resort to crime and criminality to make ends meet. Let us not forget that the level of crime and criminality of proportional to the economic standing of the people.

“The move by the Mele Kyari led NPCL to convert the Port Harcourt refinery into a blending plant for substandard petroleum products from Russia and other European destinations comes with the attendant health implications for the people of the region.

“The people would indeed be exposed to harmful chemicals from environmental pollution and degradation from the waste products that would be released into the environment as a consequence.
The rot in the administration of the oil and gas sector in Nigeria is phenomenal.

“The Mele Kyari-led NNPCL has taken the lack of transparency and accountability to another height. The country has lost huge revenues to the activities of the cartel that is aided and abetted by the Mele Kyari-led NNPCL.

“We are tempted to say that the Niger Delta people have been slated for extinction. The Coalition of Niger Delta Youth On Energy Reforms and Transparency in the Oil and Gas Sector frowns at such a disposition which is a dangerous trend that must be halted and addressed with a sense of urgency.

“The Niger Delta people are an important contributor to the revenue generation of the country and as such it must not be treated with disdain and levity.”

The Niger Delta lawyers demand that the federal government ensures the Port Harcourt Refinery becomes operational before the end of September, institutes reforms in the oil and gas sector prioritizing oil-producing communities, and investigates the administration of the oil and gas sector under Mele Kyari's leadership.

According to them, the federal government's prompt intervention is crucial to halt the dangerous trend of neglect and ensure transparency and accountability in the sector, adding that the socioeconomic implications of inaction will be severe with potential increases in crime and criminality.

The lawyers urge the relevant authorities to act in the best interest of the Niger Delta people and the country.

The statement added: “We are therefore calling on the federal government to look into the plight of the Niger Delta people and do all that is necessary to improve the lot of the people through the entrenchment of transparency and accountability in the administration of the oil and gas sector ni the country.

“The first step ni this regard is to ensure the full functionality of the Port Harcourt refinery and other refineries in the country. The second step is to institute reforms in the administration of the oil and gas sector in the country with emphasis on the oil and gas-producing communities that are home to the major source of revenue for the country.

“The third step is to institute a probe into the administration of the oil and gas sector by the Mele Kyari-led NNPCL. We are calling on the relevant authorities to urgently address the lingering issues in the oil and gas sector in Nigeria. The socioeconomic outlook of the country is worrisome and the country does not have the luxury of time as the situation in the country is getting grimmer by the day.

“The time to act is now and it is our firm belief that the relevant authorities would act ni the best interest of the Niger Delta people and the country at large.

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mohammed Ndarani, says that state pardon for public office holders undermines security institutions, democracy and democratic ideals.



Ndarani said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Abuja.



He aligned himself with the views of Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and advised that constitutional provision for state pardon should exclude convicted political office holders.



NAN recalls that the AGF had at a roundtable meeting organised by ICPC for state Attorneys General (AGs) condemned the issue of state pardon.



The minister had stressed that those public office holders found guilty of corruption should not receive state pardon.



Ndarani agreed with the AGF that the next constitution amendment should take care of this anomaly.



“Granting pardon to politicians arraigned and convicted for corruption, fraud and looting of public treasury, undermines our public institutions like the courts, EFCC, ICPC, Police, etc, is wrong.


This is because these are people who have been painstakingly investigated over cases of fraud and corruption, been tried and convicted.



“This pardon by the President circumvents the whole punitive intent since they have their rights and full benefits of their offices restored, and go on to enjoy the booties of their crimes.



“This puts the integrity of our institutions in jeopardy. It damages the integrity and reputation of our courts the nation's anti-corruption stance, and undermines democratic institutions and the rule of law’’.



He said that the odious grant of state pardon to corrupt politicians leaves one impression; the person granting the state pardon and the person getting the state pardon are birds of the same feather.



“The pardoner is preparing the ground for himself to be taken lightly for what funds he will also loot. It shows queerly that all thieving politicians are above the law.


“Once this perception sinks into the mind of the public, their trust and confidence in the government and governance or their policies will slacken and plummet.



“This is the state we have reached today in Nigeria. All politicians are seen as thieves, liars and deceivers, out to steal and loot the common wealth.



“The people can hardly understand why someone given power by the people would loot and steal the state coffers dry and be simply allowed to get off the hook.


“It gives the unshakeable impression that the government does not give care about the welfare of the masses’’.



The senior lawyer equally noted that state pardon has caused systematic and symbolic destruction of Nigeria's image in the comity of nations.



``In 2020, former British Prime Minister David Cameron called Nigeria, ‘fantastically corrupt’ because of our actions and inactions.



“We have made Nigeria a cesspool of the most audacious, impudent and shameless acts of corruption on the face of the earth.



“Much of this can be traced to the now odious grant of state pardon. This is responsible for the abrasive and shockingly inhumane treatment meted out to Nigerian nationals at airports the world over’’.



He noted that granting state pardon to corrupt politicians, stopping, withdrawing their trials or pardoning their convictions and restoring the looted or corruptly acquired funds and properties, impacts negatively on democracy.



“It creates a sense of disillusionment and disenfranchisement in the citizenry. It greatly undermines legitimacy of the government and its institutions”.



He noted that withdrawal of this pardon will gradually restore the peoples trust and confidence in political office holders, and improve democratic ideals.


“The litany of abandoned, uncompleted, partially completed and poorly executed projects litter our political landscape.



“This is because the funds voted for these projects have been salted away by those who swore to develop our country.


“Corruption is now like cancer that must be deleted from the nation's polity to guarantee us good health.



“It thus follows that granting these political thieves an underserved state pardon exacerbates the ugly situation, creating room for more such abandoned projects.



“If such trials are taken to their logical conclusions, and the convicts made to serve their sentences and forfeit the proceeds of their crimes, this trend would be drastically reduced”.



He said that the removal of state pardon will uphold the rule of law and justice, reinforce societal moral values and hold the convicted accountable.



“Prosecution and securing the conviction of the accused will serve as deterrence and protect the public against the plunder and looting of public funds by corrupt individuals.



“Also, punishing the guilty provides a good sense of justice for the public who would see that justice has been served when they see that stolen funds are being recovered.



“The havoc caused by politicians is part of what has caused the increasing prevalence of hardship, poverty and lack in the land,’’ he added.



He said that if nothing is done right now, Nigeria will be seen to be consistently instituting the government of fraudsters and thieves.



“The only goal of these individuals would be to ascend to the office and take over power to appropriate and loot the treasury and convert public funds to be their own.



“And the results would be devastating. The time to act is now”.

The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has issued a strong condemnation of the handling of allegations against the former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In a statement signed by its Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Comrade James Ezema, the CNPP highlighted concerns over the EFCC's methods and the implications for Nigeria's anti-corruption efforts.

Reacting to the latest twist in the drama between the EFCC and the former Governor, the CNPP asserted that the EFCC's actions have not only embarrassed the nation but have also reinforced the perception that the anti-corruption campaign has been compromised and politicized. "The EFCC's actions have not only brought embarrassment to our nation but have also fueled the perception that the anti-corruption campaign has been compromised and politicized," the statement noted.

The CNPP emphasised that such behaviour is "unacceptable" and "undermines the integrity of Nigeria's democratic institutions." Stating further that it does appear that in the Yahaya Bello case the EFCC is increasingly becoming more perscutory than prosecutory.

The umbrella body of all registered political parties and political associations in the country outlined "a troubling sequence of events involving former Governor Yahaya Bello, who voluntarily surrendered to the EFCC." Governor Lawal, who initially vowed to adopt a hardline stance against bandits, appears to have reneged on his promise by engaging in a contentious scheme involving substantial financial transactions with bandit leaders.

Recent revelations indicate that Governor Lawal has allegedly allocated over N1.3 billion to bandits and media propagandists, a move that starkly contradicts his earlier avowed commitment to combating terrorism and criminality.

The list of recipients and the substantial amounts they received has shamefully become public knowledge, further exacerbating concerns about Governor Lawal's credibility and commitment to the welfare of Zamfara State citizens.

The leaked documents, bearing the requisite signatures for authentication, have exposed startling financial transactions to various individuals and entities, including:

In a landmark event aimed at revitalizing primary healthcare delivery in Nigeria, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has collaborated with the Presidency, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), World Health Organization (WHO), and other stakeholders to launch a comprehensive program aimed at operationalizing primary healthcare services in all 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Councils.

The Stakeholders Technical Workshop on Primary Healthcare Revitalization and Operationalization, held at the State House, Abuja, on August 28, 2024, brought together over 510 delegates from various stakeholders, including the Presidency, Nigeria Governors' Forum, Senate and House Committees on Health and Primary Healthcare, Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Federal Ministry of Health & Social Welfare, and State Ministries of Health, among others.

In his welcome address, ALGON National President, Honourable Mu'azu Maifata, emphasized the need for a robust local community health architecture that repositions LGAs as the responsible entity for driving all preventative, palliative, and curative healthcare services. He called for a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach to PHC development that is LGA-led and takes into consideration multisectoral approaches, people-centered delivery of quality health services, and appropriate community health security interventions.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Dr. Salma Ibrahim Anas, Special Adviser to the President on Health, congratulated ALGON for convening the workshop and reiterated his administration's commitment to ensuring Universal Health Coverage with PHC at its cornerstone, driven through the Nigeria Health Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII).

The WHO Country Representative, Dr. Walter Kazadi Mulombo, appreciated ALGON for taking the bold step to convene the technical workshop and affirmed WHO's commitment to supporting the LGAs to attain their objectives for primary healthcare in Nigeria.

The Communiqué issued at the end of the workshop emphasized the need for immediate integration of the LGAs in the ongoing efforts to implement the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative, including the Health Sector Strategic Blueprint and its associated operational plans, the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCFP), and the Sector Wide Approach (SWAp).

The workshop was declared closed by the ALGON National President following the recital and adoption of the Communiqué by the stakeholders present.

The All-Africa Students' Union (AASU) has issued a press statement condemning the persecution and unjust treatment of Dr. Akindele Akintoye, a renowned investor and entrepreneur, and owner of Duport Midstream Company Limited.

"We have observed with great chagrin, the protracted persecution and the unjust treatment of Dr. Akintoye Akindele...who has been subjected to a relentless campaign of harassment, defamation, and false accusations by some shrewd Business Opportunists led by Kola Abiola, and cohorts," said HE Osisiogu Osikenyi E., President of AASU.

Dr. Akintoye Akintoye is a faculty member at the University of Lagos Business School, lecturing in Finance and Entrepreneurship, and a renowned philanthropist, providing expensive scholarships to Ivy League Schools. He is also an active patron of various student and youth organizations, including AASU.

The union accused Kola Abiola and his cohorts of being behind the persecution of Dr. Akintoye Akintoye, citing a public statement released by members of the Chief MKO Abiola Family and heirs to his Estate.

"Given the Statement publicly released by members of the Chief MKO Abiola Family and heirs to his Estate; it is succinctly clear that Kola Abiola and Wuraola Abiola are lethally against the image, life and investments of our Patron – Dr. Akintoye Akindele; and responsible for his many ordeal," the statement read.

AASU described Dr. Akintoye Akintoye as a "good man, patriotic Nigerian who is passionate about a better Nigeria" and called on the Nigerian government, Nigerian Police, and all stakeholders to protect his human rights and the investments in Duport Refinery.

"We know Dr. Akintoye Akindele as a good man, patriotic Nigerian who is passionate about a better Nigeria; and we wish unequivocally call on the Nigeria's Government, Nigerian Police and all Stakeholders to Protect the Human Rights of Dr. Akindele Akintoye; Protect the Investments in Duport Refinery," the statement said.

The union emphasized the importance of protecting Dr. Akintoye Akintoye's human rights and the investments in Duport Refinery, which is developing the first Energy Park in Nigeria to mitigate the lingering energy crisis in the country.

"We must not allow this negative precedence on 'Ease of Doing Business' in Nigeria to register in the credentials of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu that is doing so much to attract Investors," the statement added.

The All-Africa Students' Union (AASU) has issued a stern warning against incendiaries who seek to merchandise national crises without considering the impact on students.

In a statement issued in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, by Cde Abrhaley Arefaine Hailenchael, Executive Director to the Presidency of AASU, the union condemned a planned mass shutdown of major cities in Nigeria and the call for the sack of the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Limited), Mr. Mele Kyari.

"We condemn in strong terms the planned protests, which are nothing but a call for chaos and anarchy," said HE Osisiogu Osikenyi E., President of AASU. "The contemporary Students Movement on the continent encourages peaceful engagements; and eschews any form of violent confrontations without exhausting all legitimate and peaceful options."

The union aligned itself with the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), which has called for "peaceful and constructive engagement" with stakeholders on the petroleum pricing impasse in Nigeria.

"The Union under the leadership of The President — HE Osisiogu Osikenyi E. warns against incendiaries whose actions jeopardize the security of Students, and have no bearing towards Quality of Education in Nigeria, Africa," said Cde Abrhaley Arefaine Hailenchael.

The statement emphasized the importance of peaceful engagements and constructive dialogue, urging students to work towards a peaceful and prosperous Africa.

The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has vehemently condemned the recent outburst by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, against Bauchi State, describing his threats as "anarchy" and a stark reminder of his "dangerous and unrefined attitude".

The CNG's strong rebuke comes after Wike's incendiary remarks on live television, which have sparked widespread outrage and concerns about the minister's fitness for office.

According to the CNG, Wike's behavior is a direct challenge to the peace and stability of Northern Nigeria, and his actions have embarrassed the Tinubu administration and sullied the image of responsible governance. The group has warned that they will not take such threats lightly and are fully prepared to confront Wike and anyone who believes they can bully or destabilize the region.

The CNG's National Coordinator, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, expressed shock and disappointment that a figure with such a notorious reputation holds a position in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's government.

Comrade Charanchi called on President Tinubu to urgently reconsider the inclusion of "volatile and unrefined elements" in his government, emphasizing that the Nigerian people deserve leaders who will work towards unity and stability, not those who would threaten it with their actions.

"Wike’s behaviour is not only an affront to the people of Bauchi State but also a direct challenge to the peace and stability of Northern Nigeria.

"The CNG wishes to make it clear that we do not take such threats lightly.

"No one has a monopoly on thuggery or intimidation. We are fully prepared to confront Wike and anyone who believes they can bully or destabilize our region", the statement warned.

The CNG said it remains steadfast in its commitment to defending Northern Nigeria against any form of aggression or intimidation and has vowed to respond with equal force to any threat posed by Wike or his ilk.

In a landmark event, 13 local government chairmen were sworn into office in Ebonyi State, marking a significant milestone in the country's quest for local government autonomy. The ceremony, held at the Ecumenical Center in Abakaliki, the state capital, on September 1, 2024, was attended by a large gathering of stakeholders, including National Assembly members, support groups, families, friends, and associates.

The newly sworn-in chairmen, led by ALGON Deputy National President and Chairman of Ezza North Local Government, Hon Moses Nomeh, are expected to prioritize stakeholders' welfare and enhance service delivery in their respective local governments.

In a landmark move to accelerate grassroots development and capacity building, the National Gas Expansion Programme (NGEP) has inaugurated Hon Moses Nomeh, Deputy National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), as its Chairman. This strategic appointment aims to harmonize Local Government Areas' efforts under the ALGON umbrella.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) headquarters in Abuja, was graced by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Ambassador Nicolas Ella Agbo, and other high-ranking officials. Also in attendance were members of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) and a technical working group.

Ambassador Agbo conveyed the warm regards of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri, as well as the Minister of State (Oil), Ekperikpe Ekpo, and the Minister of State (Gas), emphasizing the significance of this initiative in achieving the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Permanent Secretary noted that Nigeria, in collaboration with ALGON and other stakeholders, is poised to benefit from the Gas Expansion Programme through auto gas conversion technology, human capital development, gas infrastructure, and other derivatives. He highlighted the establishment of a working group and the inauguration of the National Gas Expansion Programme as a positive development, setting the tone for future successes.

Ambassador Agbo stated that it has become necessary to engage with Local Government Areas to support the boosting of a one-megawatt power initiative across the 774 LGAs, acknowledging the need to address the power gap in a cost-effective and efficient manner. He emphasized the collaborative aspect of the initiative, involving ALGON and experienced stakeholders to assist in moving the project forward.

The terms of reference for the National Gas Expansion Programme include, but are not limited to, needs assessment at the LGAs, designing a simple audit template for energy needs in rural areas, financing, commercialization, and timelines for program implementation.

In his response, Hon Moses Nomeh expressed his enthusiasm for the National Gas Expansion Programme, describing it as a low-hanging fruit and cash cow for job and wealth creation, poised to rapidly exit Nigeria from its economic woes. He assured that ALGON is ready to partner with the Ministry, creating necessary working synergies to achieve shared objectives.

Hon Nomeh thanked the Permanent Secretary for acknowledging the critical role of Local Government Areas in establishing a nexus with the Ministry to bring effective gas expansion penetration to communities. He urged the audience to rise to the challenges and assured that ALGON will prioritize the agenda, study it, develop needs assessments in line with the heterogeneous settings of LGAs, and build capacity through community engagement.

The event, held in collaboration with the Office of the Special Adviser on Health to the President, His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Ministry of Health, and other stakeholders, aims to enhance institutional capacity and responsiveness in primary healthcare service delivery across the 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Nigeria.

The workshop's objective is to enable local governments to develop institutional mechanisms and multi-stakeholder engagements to rejuvenate and entrench primary healthcare service delivery, which has been eroded in the rural health ecosystem in Nigeria.

ALGON National President, Hon. Aminu Mu'azu Maifata, is leveraging the collaborative commitment of critical stakeholders to deliver the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs) in line with his policy direction and strategic plan.

The ALGON Stakeholders Technical Workshop aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's efforts to implement the provisions of the Constitution, recognizing Local Governments as the third tier of government, and complying with his Presidential mandate to the 10-Man Inter-Ministerial Committee to enforce the Supreme Court judgment on Local Governments' autonomy.

The Concerned Citizens of Northern Nigeria (CCNN) has announced its withdrawal from the planned nationwide protest, citing concerns over potential risks and consequences. The group, which initially participated in mobilizing people for the protest, has now prioritized peace and stability in the region.

This was disclosed by the Jigawa State Coordinator of the group, Muhammad Bello Aliyu at a press conference on Saturday.

He said the CCNN Jigawa State Chapter, representing 27 local government areas and 20 affiliate associations, explained that the decision was made after careful consideration and assessment of the potential risks.

The group cited the devastating effects of protests in other countries and Nigeria's own experience with the #EndSARS protest, which was hijacked by elements with ulterior motives.

"We cannot afford to repeat such a scenario in Northern Nigeria. We cannot afford to gamble with the security and well-being of our people," said the CCNN.

Despite withdrawing from the protest, the group emphasized the need for the government to address the pressing issues of insecurity, hunger, and starvation. "Nigerians are suffering, and it is imperative that the government rises up to the occasion to find solutions to these issues," said the CCNN.

The group presented specific demands to the government, including tackling of insecurity and working towards lasting peace, ending the current hardship and stimulating economic growth, and reversing the petrol price hike and revitalizing refineries.

Other demands include reducing electricity tariffs and tertiary institution fees, cutting cost of governance and salaries of political office holders, and restraining from foreign loans and reducing tax on citizens.

The CCNN also criticized the promoters and sponsors of the protest, many of whom are diaspora Nigerians living and working abroad. "We will not provide a platform for conflict merchants to exploit the situation and worsen the suffering of our people," said the group.

The CCNN urged all concerned citizens to prioritize peace and stability in the region, working together to build a brighter future devoid of violence.
