Business / Katsina State's Drive Towards Msmes Revolution: The Journey So Far by ToriTori247: 9:47pm On Dec 12, 2021
There is no doubt that Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play significant role, particularly in developing countries, where, according to available statistics, they account for about 90% of businesses and create over 50% of employment.

In its 2017 National Survey of MSMEs, which covered enterprises in Nigeria employing below 200 persons (that is, micro, small and medium enterprises - MSMEs), and was conducted in all the 36 States of the Federation and FCT, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) identified the number of businesses in the sector.

The NBS put the total number of MSMEs in the country as at December, 2017 at 41,543,028, with components as follows, viz: micro enterprises - MEs: 41, 469,947 (or 99.8 percent), small and medium enterprises - SMEs: 73,081 (or 0.2 percent).

From the survey, while Lagos State had the highest numbers of enterprises across all classes, only three (3) States, viz: Katsina (36.4 percent), Rivers (21.7 percent) and Kaduna (18.1 percent) recorded significant increases in enterprise numbers.

Despite the growth and developmental impact of MSMEs, in Katsina State in particular and Nigeria in general, several challenges have continued to impact negatively on the sector, notwithstanding the fact that the sector is said to be responsible for about 59.6million jobs in the country.

Understanding this and the overall important contributions of MSMEs in developing economies like Nigeria, the Katsina State Micro, Small And Medium Enterprises (KTS-MSMEs) Council under the Chairmanship of the state Deputy Governor, Qs. Mannir Yakubu, has since began deliberate moves aimed at boosting the MSMEs in Katsina State.

In a bid to improve on the states ratings on MSMEs growth and development, the KTS-MSMEs Council has in the past two years taken more steps to revolutionise the state MSMEs sector under Qs. Yakubu's leadership based on the mandate of the state Governor, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari.

Armed with the understanding of the importance of statistical data, the Council embarked on the printing and distribution of
MSMES Data Capturing Forms aimed at generating and documenting basic information on existing MSMEs in the state.

It also initiated a major sensitization campaigns in Katsina, Funtua and Daura to create awareness on the existence and functions of the Council in the three Senatorial Districts of the state. The first stage of the campaign was completed between November 26 and 28, 2019.

As part of its efforts to build synergy, the council paid courtesy working visits to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) and other Stakeholders in Abuja to gain support and also conducted sensitization and awareness campaigns on the council members activities.

The relevant stakeholders captured in its first working visits to the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON), the Raw Materials Research
and Development Council (RMRDC), National Directorate on Employment (NDE).

The visits, which commenced on December 5, 2019 was aimed at soliciting for increase activities of the targeted organizations in Katsina State and to request for specific intervention/programme peculiar to the State.

It was also initiated to abreast the state MSME Council of the emerging opportunities that abound in the targeted organizations and to explore areas of collaboration, cooperation and partnership for the development of MSMEs in the state as well as to establish a working relationship with the targeted organisations.

Again, between January 9 and 10, 2020, the Council embarked on its second working visit covering the Federal Ministry of Finance,
Budget and National Planning, the Federal Ministry of Industries, Trade and Investment, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), and Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), all in Abuja.

The Council also facilitated a meeting between the representatives of the Katsina State Government, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment and her delegation and reinvigorated continued discussions on the establishment of Funtua Integrated Textiles and Garment Park.

This culminated in inspection of the proposed Integrated Textiles and Garment Park site at Funtua on February 21, 2020 with the aim of reassuring of the state government's commitment to the project and to share other details with the Technical team of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.

To boost its exposure to the residents of the state, stakeholders, and the general public, the Council initiated a media and publicity, including the production and airing of radio and television jingles, production and airing of recorded radio and television programs, appearances at live radio and television programs, Town Hall Meeting and production and distribution of pamphlets. The Town Hall Meetings with MSMEs Stakeholders were held in the three Senatorial District of the state.

These were carried out in oder to create massive awareness on the existence and functions of the Council and to carry along other MSME stakeholders in the state.

The Council and other relevant stakeholders initiated workshop on investment opportunities in some strategic crops and safe use
of pesticides and agro-chemicals by farmers. This was carried out by by the Raw Materials Research And Development Council (RMRDC) in Collaboration with the KTS-MSME Council.

The objectives of the workshop, which held on February 3, 2020, were essentially to enable the participants understand the investment opportunities and agronomic practices in the value chains of sweet sorghum, sugar beet and cashew as well as on how best to use pesticides and agro-chemicals for crops.

The council has also collaborated with the RMRDC towards the establishment of a Digital Resource Center in the Katsina State.

To consolidate on the gains of its collaboration with relevant stakeholders, the Council in February 2020 held joint meeting with RMRDC aimed at strengthening their working relationship and chart course(s) of action.

Such strategic relationships enabled the council to secure 2,000 improved variety of cashew seedlings from the RMRDC which were distributed to farmers for propagation. The Council went ahead to also secure cotton seed from RMRDC and distributed them to Katsina State farmers.

Other activities carried out include facilitating the conduct of a two-day training for Members of the Katsina
State Economic Planning Development Commission.

It also facilitated the establishment of a Certificate Collection Center in Funtua in conjunction with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and in collaboration with SON, the Council is facilitating the certification of SMEs on standards in the state.

It also facilitated the state Government's expression of interest to participate in Employment and Expenditure for Results (SEEFOR) Project and facilitated the allocation of a plot of land to SON for The establishment of their permanent Office Building and a Laboratory in Katsina State.

This just as the council has collaborated with Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC) and organized a Training of Trainers (TOT) on tiger-nut value chain for women in Katsina State.

Business / Fuel Subsidy Negotiation: CNPP Slams NLC, TUC, Other Labour Leaders by ToriTori247: 12:46pm On Nov 28, 2021
Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has knocked the leaders of the Nigerian labour unions, including the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), accusing them of “representing their personal interests and not that their members.”

The CNPP is a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by its Secretary General, Chief Willy Ezugwu, said it was prepared to lead the anti-subsidy struggle when Nigerians are ready to take their future into their hands.

Accusing the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the federal government of being deceitful in the implementing the subsidy regime, said “what the federal government wants to do is fuel prince increment, not subsidy removal.”

The CNPP noted that “it is disheartening that the Nigerian labour unions have joined the All Progressives Congress led federal government in its deceitful and manipulative tendencies since the APC government came to power.

“Before they won the election in 2015, the APC made Nigerians to believe that fuel subsidy does not exist, tagging it a scam. But immediately they won the election, the APC led federal government swiftly increased the pump price of petrol.

“The former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Ibe Kachikwu in December 2015 revealed that the federal government has concluded plans to remove the subsidy on fuel by 2016.

“By May 2016, the Federal Government announced that it has removed fuel subsidy and petrol was to sell for N145 per litre. In fact, NNPC made Nigerians to believe that marketers were free to bring in cargoes and sell, subject to meeting standard quality control.

“But in the deceitful character of the federal government, the NNPC then insisted on a benchmark of N145 per litre as a recommended pump price.

“The CNPP at the time queried the rationale behind removing the subsidy and at the same time interfering in pump price by fixing a benchmark of N145 per litre of petrol.

“While highlighting contents of a briefing after a meeting with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in 2016, Kachikwu said: “We have just finished a meeting with various stakeholders presided over by His Excellency, the Vice President. The meeting had in attendance the leadership of the Senate, House of Representatives, Governors Forum, and Labour Unions (NLC, TUC, NUPENG, and PENGASSAN)”, the then minister told Nigerians.

“But at a point, the federal government made a U-turn on the fuel subsidy removal when, contrary to viral media reports that the federal government has ended fuel subsidy, Vice President Yemi Osinabjo said it was not true, explaining that what the government did was to withdraw the monopoly enjoyed by the NNPC to allow free market sales.

“The free market sales and importation of petrol by the independent marketers never happened because the federal government simply deceived Nigerians that subsidy was removed. Nigerians endured but till date, there is no meaningful improvement till date.

“This cycle of deceit has continued till date as the federal government has hinted on yet another fuel price increment which it has again tagged fuel price removal. How many times will government remove fuel subsidy?

“The same labour unions leaders who were part of the earlier negotiations are the same ones negotiating with the federal government today in another cycle of personal enrichment while Nigerians are to pay N340 per litre of petrol and a time cooking gas is already out of the reach of the ordinary citizens.

“It is laughable that the only palliative from the federal government is N5, 000.00 naira to a few Nigerians, which government officials will eventually siphon into private pockets like the COVID-19 conditional cash transfer.

“With the level of infrastructure decay in the country, where all federal roads are not motorable, the federal government is talking about cash transfer because it is the new safe way to siphon our commonwealth.

“The CNPP is ready to lead Nigerians anytime they want to end this series of subsidy removal deceit by the federal government in connivance with labour leaders in the country”, the CNPP concluded.

Politics / Save Enugu Group Reacts To Brewing Igbo-eze South Crisis by ToriTori247: 12:10pm On Nov 22, 2021
The Save Enugu Group (SEG) has called for calm over what it described as "politically motivated violence" ongoing in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State, insisting that it is the handiwork of the enemies of the people in the state.

While disclosing that it has commenced investigation into the matter, the SEG said in a statement by its National Secretary, Comrade James Ezema that there are pointers that “the ongoing demonization of the Igbo-Eze South council boss, Hon. Peter Andy in the crisis in the local government is politically motivated.”

The group noted that not a few residents have accused a federal lawmaker, in the area of being “the unseen hand” fueling the birth of the current political gangsterism in the local government with a view to dislodging the council boss in the next council election or even orchestrating his possible removal from office.

“For instance, the counsellor representing Ezema Ward in Igbo-Eze South, Hon. Chizoba Ezeja had in a viral video accused the chairman of personally leading “his boys” to attack her family house and destroyed vehicles with axes and cutlasses.

“While we are not preempting ongoing investigation on the matter, we are yet to connect the dots as to why a council chairman, a sitting executive, elected by the people, would openly carry out such attacks publicly while security agencies are under his authority as the chief security officer of the local government.

“It is yet to make any logical sense to us why Hon. Peter Andy would deliberately distabilise and maim the same people who elected him and would also be on ground in the next council election to decide his fate.

“We therefore call on all residents of the local government to remain calm while security agencies do carry out their duties.

“The SEG is also undertaking a private investigation into the matter but our preliminary findings point to the fact that some powerful political forces are bent on ensuring that Igbo-Eze South Local Government is completely distabilised ahead of the next council election to ensure that the local government chairman, Hon. Peter Andy is not returned for a preferred candidate the Abuja based political forces desperately wish to enthrone.

Hence, the only way out for these elements is to distabilise the local government by pitching political actors against each other for selfish end.

“All the political actors who have personal issues with each other should, in the interest of the people, resolve their issues on their own without dragging the ordinary people of Igbo-Eze South into their personal problems”, the SEG stated.

The group added: "From the preliminary finding by the Save Enugu Group, it was the Council Chairman who alerted the Area Commander, the Divisional Police Officer of Igbo-Eze South, and the Army in-charge of Enugu-North Senatorial Zone and also sent the Anti-kidnapping Squad to quell the mayhem.

"The police and the Anti-kidnapping Squad were said to have intercepted the hoodlums along MCC road, around Ibagwa Aka, where one of the hoodlums abandoned his car and fled.

“We then find it very difficult to believe that the same Chairman of Igbo-Eze South will be the person behind the mayhem in the local government at the same time unless further investigation proves otherwise", the SEG concluded.

NYSC / Appraising Nysc’s Role In Midwifing Credible Elections by ToriTori247: 7:27am On Nov 21, 2021
The National Youth Service Corps has come under scrutiny in recent times regarding its relevance in the scheme of things in the country. Some stakeholders have consequently advocated for its scrapping. However, this position was countered by some schools of thought, who argued that the NYSC remains critical in the scheme of things in the country.

Another area of discourse is the involvement of the NYSC in elections in the country. It has also been argued that the participation of corps members in elections in the country has exposed them to harm, as evident in the unfortunate incident in 2011 where some corps members lost their lives as a result of electoral violence that characterised the elections in some parts of the country.
Consequently, this medium sought the views of stakeholders with regards to the role of the NYSC in nation-building and specifically in midwifing credible elections in Nigeria.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is a program set up by the Nigerian government to involve Nigerian graduates in nation-building and the country's development. There is no military conscription in Nigeria, but since 1973 graduates of universities and later polytechnics have been required to take part in the National Youth Service Corps programme for one year.

Over the years, the scheme has evolved to play roles in some aspects of national life. One of such roles is the participation of youth corps members in elections as Adhoc staff. According to Igwe Ude, a youth empowerment advocate, he stated that the NYSC as an institution had played a critical role in the socio-economic development of Nigeria. He further asserted that there is a need for the government to continue to evolve strategies that would maximise the potentials of youths across the country.

“The NYSC is a critical component in nation-building in Nigeria. Its contribution to national development has been outstanding. Take the example of corps members as ad-hoc staff during elections. That is very critical if we must admit. Let us imagine how elections would have been without the involvement of corps members as ad-hoc staff.”

Bamidele Alolanle, a development expert, corroborated this view; he posited that the NYSC scheme has been contributing positively to sustainable growth and development in Nigeria. He averred that the challenge is that most people still see the NYSC in light of the '80s, where the focus was exclusively that of national integration.

“The NYSC has evolved over the years into a scheme that addresses some of the contemporary challenges in the country. The recent drive with regards to skills acquisition and entrepreneurship development is a point to note. This is aside from the involvement of corps members in the conduct of elections in the country. The recent elections in Anambra state provide us with a good example of how critical the NYSC is in the conduct of elections. There was footage of the NYSC DG moving around the state encouraging corps members to give their best without compromising.”

This medium was able to gather from reliable sources that the management of the NYSC has been emphasising nonpartisanship on the part of corps members during elections. According to information collected from sources in the NYSC secretariat, it was revealed that before elections, the NYSC management sensitizes corps members on the rules of engagement during elections.

A top management staff of the NYSC, who pleaded anonymity, stated that the management of NYSC has continually emphasized fairness in the discharge of their duties during elections due to its critical role in the credibility of the electoral process in the country.

“If we recall, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said it would continue to use members of National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) for the conduct of elections in the country because corps members had contributed enormously to recent success and improvement in the overall conduct of elections in Nigeria.”

“This is informed by empirical evidence on how the NYSC has been instrumental to the success of elections in Nigeria. I can tell you that under the new dispensation, the DG of the NYSC has been outstanding in ensuring that the NYSC remains a partner in progress in the conduct of elections in Nigeria through numerous innovations and the Anambra elections provides us with an example that saw the DG on the ground in Anambra state to supervise the participation of corps members during the elections. This is a first and an indication of how dexterous the DG can be with regards to the operations of the NYSC."

In a statement credited to the DG of the NYSC during the Anambra elections, he stated that corps members had written their names in the annals of history, having contributed towards the entrenchment of the credible electoral process. He enjoined them to remain impartial and perform their duties in line with the established rules.

In a similar vein, the governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi, commended the involvement of the NYSC in general elections in Ekiti State. He stated that Ekiti was adjudged the freest and fairest; this was made possible because of the cooperation of stakeholders to deliver on their mandates, especially the NYSC.

This medium concludes that the role of the NYSC in midwifing credible elections in Nigeria cannot be overemphasized, and it is hoped that the relevant stakeholders continue to extend support to the scheme in the fulfilment of its mandate.

A national pro-democracy organisation, the National Democratic Mandate Group (NDMG) has endorsed the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the group's preferred candidate for the November 6, 2021 governorship election in Anambra State.

The group, whose motto is unity and justice, in a statement titled “Resolution on Adoption of Candidate for Anambra State 2021 Gubernatorial Election”, noted that the adoption of Senator Andy Uba was on the heels of his presentation to the national body by the Anambra State chapter.

The resolution reads: “Sequel to the upcoming gubernatorial election in Anambra State slated for Saturday, 6th of November 2021, the National Executive Council of National Democratic Mandate Group (NDMG) hereby officially endorse the candidature of Distinguished Senator Andy Uba as a choice candidate for election, as has been presented by the Anambra State Chapter of the Group.

“This decision is as a result of critical analysis of the Senator's pedigree, antecedents and above all, immense contribution to the overall socio-economic development and high profiled representation of the state electorates at different levels over the period of his active service so far politically.

“It is our conviction that true dividends of democracy would certainly reach the grassroots when given the opportunity to champion the affairs of Anambra State as an Executive Governor”, the group said.

Crime / South East Group Demands Immediate Release Of Obi Cubana by ToriTori247: 11:26am On Nov 02, 2021
....Says Buhari Govt Should Leave Igbos Alone

The pan-Igbo sociopolitical pressure organisation, the South East Revival Group (SERG) has demanded the immediate release of socialite and business tycoon, Obinna Iyiegbu, who is popularly known as Obi Cubana.

There were media reports on Monday that the Anambra State-born philanthropist was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on allegations bordering on alleged money laundering and tax evasion.

However, in a statement signed by its President and National Coordinator, Chief Willy Ezugwu, the SERG queried the rationale behind Obi Cubana's, saying that sons and daughters of the South East have target by the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

The group, which demanded that the Buhari’s government should “leave Igbos alone”, wondering why the Federal Government is protecting some individuals, including and a “police officer wanted for corruption in the United States and some Bullion Van tycoons in Nigeria are working free but Igbos have continued to be subjected to all manner of harassments.

“In recent times, former Governor Peter Obi and former Secretary to the Federal Government, Ayim Pius Ayim, have been targeted by anti-corruption agencies all of a sudden because of their possible emergence as presidential candidates in their party to challenge the status quo.

“So, such anti-Igbo phantom allegations, like the ones against Obi Cubana, are not new.

“We recall that Ifeanyi Ubah of Capital Oil was arrested and detained by the federal government based on suspicion of committing financial fraud, even when it was the Federal government that was owing him.

“Despite the long years of neglect of the South East region, self-made Igbo sons and daughters are now being subjected to all manners of media trials while others who are reasonably suspected to have committed deafening financial crimes are working free on the streets because they are not Igbos.

"We strongly believe that Obi Cubana is targeted because of Anambra State governorship election on November 6. Due to his popularity, they want to take him out of the state and embarrass him.

“The SERG therefore demands immediate and unconditional release of Obi Cubana from the EFCC custody without any further delay”, the group demanded.
Politics / CNPP Wants Buhari To Sack Malami, Hails Outcome Of Pdp's Convention by ToriTori247: 2:43pm On Oct 31, 2021
The umbrella association of all registered political parties and political associations in the county, the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP), has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately sack the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, over the controversial and unwarranted invasion of the house of the second most senior Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Mary Odili by security operatives.

This is even as the CNPP congratulated the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the successful conduct of its national convention, urging other political parties to emulate the rancour-free convention and the emergence of the youngest national youth leader in any major political party in the country.

In a statement signed by its Secretary General, Chief Willy Ezugwu, the CNPP wondered “why President Buhari is still keeping Malami as the Chief Law Officer of the federation despite several embarrassing comments and actions.”

According to the statement, “Malami's continued stay in office as Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice has become one of the biggest threats to democracy and rule of law in the country.

“Under his watch as Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, there have been obvious state sponsored invasions of houses of Justices of the Supreme Court and Judges of the Federal High Court, without any justification.

“The CNPP therefore calls on the National Executive of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to rise up to the occasion and ensure protection of the country’s judiciary and judicial officers in view of the unwarranted threats and intimidation of officers in the temple of justice, using security operatives under Malami's watch.

“His comments on national issues in recent times have equally portrayed him as a grave danger to rule of law and Nigerian democracy”, the CNPP observed.

Reacting to the successful conclusion of the PDP's national convention, the CNPP noted that “democracy can only grow in an atmosphere of transparency and fair play.

“The PDP has demonstrated that it is ready to get things right by departing from the era of unbridled impunity in the conduct of its affairs to become an example of a truly repentant political party.

“We commend the emergence of a 25-years old national youth leader of the PDP, a giant step in accommodating the younger generation of Nigerians who have been desirous to contribute to nation building.

“We therefore congratulate all the elected party leaders in the extraordinary convention of the PDP and urge them to work towards deepening of Nigeria's democracy and promotion of good governance in the country”, the CNPP stated.

Politics / How APC, PDP Are Undermining Nigeria’s Democratic Growth – CNPP Reveals by ToriTori247: 1:28pm On Oct 18, 2021
Conference Of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of gradually killing Nigeria’s democracy by failing to live up to their democratic responsibility to the nation.

The CNPP, in a statement issued in Abuja by the Secretary General of the umbrella association of all registered political parties and political associations in the country, Chief Willy Ezugwu, noted that the two political parties have continued on the part of the impunity as a result of lack of internal party democracy and other cornerstones of democracy.

According to the CNPP, this has resulted in emergence of factions and cliques in the parties after every election or party primary.

The CNPP therefore noted that “Due to the continued indulgence in anti-democratic tendencies, internal democracy in Nigeria’s political parties has continued to nose-dive in the last 22 years of our democratic experiments.

“The two self-acclaimed biggest political parties in Nigeria, the APC and the PDP have continued to clench on practices that negate the core tenets of democracy globally, leading to stagnated growth of Nigeria’s democracy and the sustenance of bad governance at all levels of government.

“As a result of lack of interest in such cornerstones of democracy like freedom of speech and rights to hold divergent opinion, inclusiveness and equality, citizenship, consent of the governed in decision making, and trampling on their rights to choose their leaders, among others, Nigerians have continued to wallow in wants and penury in the midst of plenty.

“This is why the two parties have continued to manipulate the country’s political space, exchanging members and elected officials who decamp at will and maintaining a high level of disregard to their own party’s constitution such that the courts have become the last resort for most aggrieved members who can afford the cost of litigation.

“The internal conflict resolution mechanisms in both political parties are either hijacked by competing godfathers or such mechanisms are comatose, merely existing in their party constitutions.

“As impunity has continued to thrive in the two political parties, the consequence is the unending emergence of factions and cliques of aggrieved members at the end of every internal election, including congresses and primary elections.

“Nigeria’s democracy cannot advance beyond where we are as the country will continue to recycle corrupt politicians and their cronies that end up impoverishing the populace. This will remain our experience if the bar of internal democracy and adherence to the cornerstones of democracy are not raised and given priority by the two dominant parties.

“We therefore challenge the APC and the PDP, as leading political parties, to live by example of standards of democratic parties as we approach the 2023 general elections. This will not only deepen democracy in the country but also ensure that the people’s rights to choose their leaders within the parties and at general elections are upheld without manipulations, rigging or impositions”, the CNPP stated.

On behalf of the National Executive Council of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), the Board of Trustees (BOT), Management and Staff, I heartily rejoice with all Nigerians on this eventful occasion marking her 61st Independence Anniversary.

ALGON is exceptionally happy with all Nigerians for upholding the tenets and values of a Constitutional democracy, in line with the ideals of its founding fathers.

Despite the fact that ALGON has had its sides of experiences, it will certainly continue to have fate in the system to address its existential threats especially issues of insecurity through job creation, tenure of office, consistency of election, revenue profile, infrastructure, health delivery services, education, industrialization for secured future of the rural populace.

Nigerians are hereby reminded to never lose hope or forget in a hurry the painstaking sacrifices of our founding fathers despite the country’s diversities Because such will continue to strengthened our love of nationhood.

It is important at this time of our history; for us all to appreciate and draw strength from a popular adage from–Sarojini Naidu which said that “a country’s greatness lies in its undying ideals of love and sacrifice that inspire the mothers of the race”.

I therefore enjoin all Nigerians to make sacrifice that will promote the unity, peace and progress as enunciated in its national seal.

ALGON is specifically assuring Nigerians that despite all the misfortunes, we shall remain steadfast and appreciate God for the union.

Let me remind all Nigerians that there is still hope for better future especially as the Constitution Amendment which is being anticipated will help in strengthening the LGAs/Area Councils efforts for national development.

Politics / 2021: APC Support Group For Andy Uba Holds Interactive Sessions At Wards 4 And 7 by ToriTori247: 9:48am On Sep 28, 2021
As the countdown to the November 6 2021 governorship elections in Anambra State continues, events leading up to the election has shown that the All Progressives Congress (APC) holds all the aces.

Addressing a cross-section of crowd that cuts across party affiliations in wards 4 and 7 respectively in Onitsha North Local Government Area, the local government coordinator of the APC support group for Andy Uba, Hon Victor Mba expressed satisfaction at the massive turn out of party faithfuls and ward members during the session, pointing out that it does not require a seer to tell where victory will swing during the elections.

Hon Victor Mba stressed the need for eligible voters to obtain their permanent voters cards in readiness for the polls, adding that they should strive to win at their various polling booths to justify rewards for their hard work.

He enjoined party stalwarts to avoid divisive tendencies, close ranks and work with unity of purpose towards ensuring victory for Andy Uba at the forthcoming elections.

The APC support group for Andy Uba Coordinator explained that the commercial city of Onitsha was a veritable platform, for massive upliftment for all party members who contributed positively for Andy Uba’s victory at their various polling units. He promised that adequate logistic would be provided for the task, adding that members should endeavour to mobilise at least 10 prospective voters each at their polling booths on Election Day.

In his speech, a member of the national campaign committee for Anambra Elections and two-time member House of Representatives for Onitsha Federal Constituency, Hon Gozie Agbakoba noted that as it stands now, APC has continued to move from strength to strength and has attracted more members into its fold, adding that apart from the gale of defections witness recently in the state and the way the electorate is pulling for the party’s candidate at every turn, the party is moving into the election as one united family, a privilege that is not common among the other parties.

Hon Gozie who is also a Board of Trustee member of APC Ward-To-Ward Ambassadors (WWA) stated that the group has reviewed the voting pattern of previous election at the various wards and polling units and reiterated the group’s policy of Operation-Win-Your-Polling Unit mobilisation campaign strategy.
Also speaking, the zonal coordinator, APC Ward-To-Ward Ambassadors (WWA) for the South East and former Governorship Candidate for ACPN in the 2017 Anambra Governorship Elections, Comrade Akunwata Ejoh Ojiba noted that only a seasoned politician of Senator Andy Uba’s capacity has the reach, contact and passion necessary to fight an election as tough as Anambra Governorship and win. He noted that only APC out of the three frontline campaigns (i.e. APC, APGA and PDP) is yet to govern the state and is presently working hard to achieve it.

Comrade Ojiba explained that while APC was busy campaigning on issues, the other parties are comfortable peddling unfounded rumours, adding that none of them had diminished the party’s prospects in the coming elections. Ezennia Chukwudebelu who represented Senator Stella Oduah also stressed the need for Anambra to connect to the centre of power for benefit of Ndi Anambra.

An APC stalwart and former House of Assembly Candidate, Hon Nnabuenyi Jude Oniah pointed out that what APC has going for it in the coming election is cohesion, stressing that is the only major party in the election less distracted by intraparty wrangling. He noted further that Andy Uba has experience in terms of party election and has been a governor once and a Senator twice. He advocated for Family-To-Family, Door-To-Door neighbourhood canvassing strategy.

A popular youth leader in ward 4, Hon Achu Innoma called for all hands to be on deck towards ensuring victory for the Andy Uba project. The wards 4 and 7 coordinators, Hon Uwakwe Anthony and Mrs Oby Etukokwu respectively also spoke at the session.

Politics / Why Forming ALGON IMC Faction Was A Mistake, Says Ex-imc Spokesman by ToriTori247: 11:38pm On Sep 27, 2021
Former spokesperson of the defunct Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and the former Chairman of Ekiti Local Government of Kwara State, Hon. Yinka Dallas has warned of fraudulent persons masquerading as IMC members with unlawful agenda.

Hon. Yinka Dallas who gave full details of how members of the defunct IMC were misled into what he described as “a mistake” in a statement on Monday, said they later realised that no provision in ALGON constitution envisaged the formation of the IMC and jettisoned the idea of factionalising ALGON.

He urged security agencies, government institutions and media to assist the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria in its war against the “present IMC fraudulent arrangements who are currently using the name of ALGON/IMC which doesn't exist to defraud the unsuspecting public.”

Recalling how the IMC was formed, Hon. Yinka Dallas
said “In view of its exigency and importance to alert the Nigerian populace, including the security agencies on the recent happenings in the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) leadership, this press Statement has indeed become necessary.

“Given that sometime last year, April to be precise, out of misconceptions,  misinformation and little or no knowledge of the ALGON Constitution, some set of Local Government Chairmen decided to factionalize ALGON by creating the so-called Interim Management Committee (IMC) with the claim and argument that Hon. Kolade David Alabi - the substantive (ALGON National President) duly elected is not supposed to occupy the position as ALGON National President.

“Be that as it may, Hon. Abdullahi Maje, Chairman Suleja Local Government, Niger State was nominated to head the said IMC!

“The IMC did not stop at that, we equally went ahead to secure an interim injunction from the Court to stop Hon. Kolade Alabi from parading himself as the ALGON National President!”, Hon. Dallas noted.

According to him, “Exactly July 5th 2020, the Federal High Court Abuja turned down our request and denied us an injunction.

“At this period, the Governor of Niger State from available report gathered, had instructed Hon. Maje to desist from parading himself as ALGON IMC Chairman and that he must not be part of any move to factionalize ALGON. At that point Hon. Maje withdrew his participation from IMC.

“In other not to create vacuum, and to sustain the momentum of such ill-advised desperation, Maje's (IMC) Deputy was made the chairman in person of Hon. Ropo Ige, the Chairman of Ijero Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

“At this point, the stakeholders of the Association, including the ALGON Board of Trustees (BOT) felt concerned and stepped into the matter. At that moment, so many things were made clear to us (The IMC) and ALGON Constitution was also thoroughly made clear to us.

“For the sake of the Association and not to create any IMC that is not known to the ALGON Constitution, we all dropped our ego and embraced the authentic and mainstream leadership of Hon. Kolade David Alabi led ALGON”, Hon. Yinka Dallas stated.

Looking at matters arising from the misconceptions and ill-intentions, he maintained that “It was sad of recent that we started reading in some online medium as well as from other media organisations of Hon. Maje going around and proclaiming himself as IMC Chairman again!!

“The members of the defunct IMC carried out an independent investigation of what could have led to the resurrection of such dead matter and we realised the fact that it was a move to defraud the uninformed Nigerians, Government institutions, the Political class and others”, Hon. Dallas warned.

Urging action against the menace, he said that “It is instructive to note that, why we use this medium to call on the general public to be very careful in dealing with the Hon. Maje led non-existent IMC, we equally want the Nigeria Security Agencies, Institutions and it's ally's to rise up to the task of curbing this type of menace in our society especially now that they are moving from one Government Institution to another.

“Moreover, it will be important to reaffirm to the Nigerian populace that IMC is alien to ALGON Constitution as earlier noted and therefore we will no longer be part of such aberration for the sake of strengthening the Association and securing the future of the Local Governments and Area Councils as well as generations yet unborn.

“Finally, we want to appeal to the Nigeria Media establishments, to please while in their bid to sanitize our society with investigative reportage, professional ettiquette and Code of Conduct, we equally urge them to be our mouthpiece in the war against the present IMC fraudulent arrangements who are currently using the name of ALGON/IMC which doesn't exist to defraud the unsuspecting public”, the statement concluded.

Fact check by our correspondent indicates that the splinter group named IMC that broke away from ALGON had nine months ago collapsed and pledged loyalty to the Hon. Kolade David Alabi-led leadership of the Association.

The dissident group, after about eight months of rebellion, said they were misled but pledged loyalty to ALGON National President, Hon. Alabi.

The defunct IMC members had also in their resolution, which was signed by Hon. Ige Ropo Emmanuel, Hon. Adeagbo Adeniyi, Hon. Dangiye Ubarugu, Hon Emeka Ogelle, Hon. Idi Aminu, Hon. Wasiu Owolabi and Hon. Yinka Dallas Ayeni, pledged loyalty to Hon. Alabi led National Executive Committee (NEC) of ALGON.
