THE National Examinations Council has released the June/July 2015 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination results. The result showed a remarkable improvement when compared with previous examinations between 2011 and 2014. The Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of NECO, Prof. Abdulrashid Garba, on Thursday announced the results at the council’s national headquarters in Minna, Niger State. He observed that the results which showed 83.28 per cent credit pass in English Language and 80.74 per cent credit pass in Mathematics was an improvement on the previous exams conducted between 2011 and 2014. Garba, who coincidentally marked his 100 days in office on Wednesday, said that 969,991 candidates registered for the examinations, out of which 969,491 sat for the papers with 68.56 per cent of the candidates obtaining five credits and above in five subjects including Mathematics and English. Garba said in the comparative analysis of 2014 and 2015 June/July SSCE, it showed that in 2014, 978,886 candidates sat for the exam with 511,931 of the candidates obtaining credits in five subjects above, including English and Mathematics. In the analysis of candidates’ performance by states, he said Delta State scored the highest in five credits and above, including English and Mathematics with 83.51 per cent and Edo State followed with 83.42 per cent while Yobe State was the least with 36.12 per cent. The Registrar said 43,608 cases of malpractices were recorded with those who had their cases established, having their results cancelled. Garba added that schools with defaults had their candidates’ results withheld. “We have banned seven schools and centres for their involvement in malpractice cases for at least two years and some forever. This action also affects ad-hoc staff. We have blacklisted those involved in malpractices,” the registrar added. http://www.punchng.com/news/68-5-per-cent-candidates-pass-2015-neco-exam/ |
Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has terminated the appointment of four commissioners in the State Executive Council. According to a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the governor on Media and Public Affairs, Prince Kassim Afegbua, on Wednesday, those affected included the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs, Chief Lucky James; and Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Blessing Maigida. Others are the Commissioner for Basic Education, Mr. Patrick Aguinede; and the Commissioner for Energy and Water Resources, Mr. Chris Ebare. Oshiomhole, who did not give any reason for the termination of his former cabinet members, however, noted that his action was “in line with government’s commitment to strengthen the system towards optimal performance.” The governor said their disengagement from his cabinet was with immediate effect and also directed them to handover all government property in their possession to the permanent secretaries in their respective ministries. “The Comrade Governor expresses his appreciation to the former commissioners for their services to the state and wishes them well in their future endeavours,” the statement added. http://www.punchng.com/news/oshiomhole-sacks-four-commissioners/ |

[quote author=olokfor post=36540276]The Chief Priest of Oduduwa and Obadio Agbaye Orisun of Yoruba land, Oba Farotimi Faroba, has dismissed the reported arrival of remains of Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, to Ile-Ife, Osun. Faroba told NAN on Sunday in Ile-Ife that the Ooni was hale and healthy. “Ooni is hale and healthy, and that is to confirm to you that nothing has happened to him. “And if he is still alive why the rumuor that his remains has arrived in the ancient town? “Ooni’s death cannot be hidden,” he added. “Assuming his reported death is true, you will notice crowd at the main palace gate, while the gate would be locked and no one will be allowed to enter. “Also, the Oduduwa chief priest will announce the demise of the Ooni upon sounding of a bell at Enuwa square located in front of the palace. “After the announcement, all the trees in the market would be cut; markets would be closed while all forms of merrymaking such as drumming or partying would be suspended in town for a number of days,” he explained. Faroba said since Oni is still alive there was no need to perform any of the rites. According to him, the wedding of one of the Ooni’s sons which was slated for August 2 in Lagos still went ahead as planned to confirm that the monarch is still alive. “Ooni is second in command to the deities and if anything happen to him, the 200 gods and goddesses would be aware before Oduduwa chief priest would announce it. “I am saying all these to confirm to you that Ooni is still alive,” Faroba said. NAN recalls that some media houses reported on Sunday that the remains of the Ooni may have arrived the ancient town. http://www.metronaija.com/2015/08/palace-chief-dismisses-arrival-of-oonis.html cc: lalasticlala ishilove[/qu After 3months d official announcement will be made but now d coloured section need to be fulfilled |
